In the past Gov. Sullivan Chime read the thread and often implemented some viable ideas from it. Ugwuanyi will prefer to spend his time drinking pepper soup than reading comments from Enugu people on how to develop the state.

Gov ugwuanyi may not be that saavy to even know there is a place like this online where Enugu citizens profer solutions based on the rich background of people contributing to this thread.

We have to find a way to itemize these ideas and send to him via regular mail or DHL. Even at that; he may not read it

The Enugu State Government has expressed optimism that the N24 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target for fiscal 2017 will be achieved.

Mrs Adaonah Kene-Uyanwune, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Revenue and Financial Matters, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu.

Kene-Uyanwune said that the government was happy that its revenue generation had been progressive, attributing the development to the administrative ingenuity of the state governor.

She said that within the first half of the year, the state’s IGR stood at over N11 billion, compared to N7.2 billion for the same period in 2016.

“A few months back, the State Executive Council approved the automation of the state revenue board.

“This provided for an in-built data synchronizing with payment into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and ensuring that all government revenues are harnessed and integrated from ministry to ministry into one account.

“It is a laudable achievement of the government. We are almost at the end of the first half of the year and have done over N11 billion.

“Given what we have now, we are very positive that we will end the year between N22 billion and N24 billion,” she said.

Kene-Uyanwune applauded the state governor, whom she said, had not left anything undone to ensure that the state Board of Internal Revenue (BIR) met its target.

“The governor has not left anything undone to ensure that these revenues are met.

“There are back duty investigations that have yielded a lot of fruits in terms of revenue growth this year.

“The tax to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rate in Nigeria is about six per cent.

“It means that Nigerians are not tax compliant but in Enugu, the governor knows what it means to get the people comply.”

The special adviser said that the governor had kept to his four-point agenda with infrastructural development paramount, adding that when the people are happy with your work, they pay taxes.

“The infrastructural development in the state is attributable to the sum total of the individual capacities of residents of the state who are tax compliant.

Kene-Uyanwune said that the state assembly had also given procedural support in ensuring that all amendments to the revenue laws were approved to back the board.

She said that the state government understood that proper framework must be put in place to achieve optimum collection of government taxes and levies.

“We are not purely dependent on Federal Allocations anymore as IGR is contributing well over 50 per cent of the state revenue.

Kene-Uyanwune said that the state government had put in place measures to bring tax men closer to the people, adding that efforts were also ongoing to introduce end-user taxation and increasing the tax base.

She, however, said that the tax regime was not without its challenges as some prospective taxpayers were recalcitrant. (NAN)

ENUGU GOVT. AWARDS CONTRACTS FOR MORE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS TO OPEN UP RURAL AREAS

Enugu State Government has approved the award of contract for the construction of Agbani-Afor-Amurri road in Nkanu West [/b]Local Government Area by Ambeez Services Limited at the total sum of two hundred and forty million, four hundred and fifty five thousand, seventy eight naira twenty kobo (N240,455,078.20).

Also awarded was the construction of the [b]Nkanu East Local Government Area Headquarters section of the intractable Amechi-Idodo –Amauzam Amagunze road to Arab contractors Nigeria Ltd at the total sum of forty million, seventy two thousand, nine hundred and fifty three naira thirty eight kobo only (N40,072,953.38) because of the nature of the area's soil texture.
The approvals were part of the decisions taken at the State Executive Council meeting held yesterday at the EXCO Chambers, which was presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, said that the decisions was in line with the state government's vision to continue to open up the rural areas, give the dwellers a sense of belonging and increase improved agricultural project in the areas.
The commissioner outlined other approvals of the Council to include the payment of two hundred and forty million, nine hundred and eighty seven thousand, twenty eight naira sixty eight kobo (N204,987,028.68), covering all the outstanding payments to Setraco Nigeria Limited.
The breakdown of the payments include one hundred, and eighty five million, two hundred and thirty thousand, six hundred and forty one naira, thirty kobo (N185,230,641.30) of certificate number eight in respect of the rehabilitation of major roads in Enugu Urban such as Abakaliki dual carriage way, Ogui/Fire Service dual carriage way and rehabilitation of New Haven roads (Chime Avenue), and nineteen million, seven hundred and fifty six thousand three hundred and eighty nine naira (N19,756,389) of the final payment certificate number four to Setraco Nigeria Limited to enhance good business relationship with them.
The Government spokesman also informed journalists that the council approved the award of contract for the external work at the Enugu State Medical Diagnostic Centre, Enugu to Ambeez Services Limited at the contract sum of two hundred and thirty three million, two hundred and eighteen thousand, two hundred and sixty two naira eighty one kobo(N233,218,262.81).
He said that “this external work will complete the general improvement of the Diagnostic Centre, and give the entire premises a facelift befitting the status of the centre”.
He enumerated other approvals of the Council to include the full implementation of inclusive educational policy at the Special Education Centres at Oji River and Ogbete, Enugu to ensure the training of the physically challenged and healthy children in the same learning environment for better integration in the society after schooling, starting from 2017/2018 academic session.
This according to the Commissioner wil enhance the opportunities of the physically challenged children trained there to transit to junior secondary school.
This, he added, will help "to promote social skills development of these children, and reduce the suspicion gap between these two categories of peers".
The Exco spokesperson, said that the Council had in the meeting also approved the bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Enugu State Debt Management Office and for other matters connected therewith and after that forward same to the Enugu State House of Assembly for legislative action.
Explaining further on the issue, the Attorney General and Commissioner forJustice, Enugu State, Mr. Melitus Eze, said that “the debt management office will enable the state to ascertain its credit worthiness and advise it accordingly if contrary”.
The Council in the meeting also approved the release of thirty nine million, one hundred and seventy two thousand, three hundred and seventy eight naira eighty kobo(N39,172,378.80) to enable the School of Public Health Nursing (Health Technology, Nsukka) carry out its accreditation exercises in order not to lose its accreditation status and the consequences therein, with “the things needed such as the completion of abandoned buildings in the school, auditorium, more classrooms, provision of E-Library, skills laboratory, water supply, among others”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi thinks big for Enugu, as he inspects ongoing State-of-the-Art HELIU Estate

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State today undertook an inspection tour of the ongoing state-of-the art Estate along Enugu – Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu, being developed by the state government in partnership with a private firm – FIT Consult Limited to provide a befitting housing for potential residents of the state.
The visit according to the governor, who went round the vast Estate with the company’s officials led by its Chief Executive Officer, Chief Loretta Aniagolu, was to ascertain the extent of work on the Estate with regard to the amenities and facilities being put in place to serve the needs of the people of the state.
After the inspection Gov. Ugwuanyi in his address, expressed satisfaction with the level of “seriousness and commitment” exhibited by the state government’s partners towards the timely delivery of the project, saying that he has no doubt that the venture will go a long way in his administration’s genuine efforts to addressing the housing needs of the people.
He added that the project “further underscores the usefulness of synergy and cooperation between government and the private sector in the quest for the rapid development of the state as well as the improvement of the lives of our people”.
While thanking Dr. Aniagolu and her team for all their efforts, the governor used the opportunity to call on “other individuals and organizations in the private sector, both at home and abroad, to emulate this worthy example and also join hands with government to advance the frontiers of development in Enugu State”.
According to him, “Enugu State is indeed ready and open for business and we will eagerly welcome partners in every sphere of development so that our aspiration to build a more prosperous, peaceful and secure Enugu State will be fully and promptly actualized”.
The Estate according to the CEO of FIT Consult, has 200 units of three-bedroom Bungalows, 490 units of four-bedroom Duplexes and site and services of 487 plots totaling 1,177 homes with the following services - 24-Hour Water Supply; 24-Hour Electricity; paved concrete roads; sidewalks and street lights; parks and greenery; waste management; recreation and security.
On the commercial section, Chief Aniagolu explained that the Estate has an event centre; fitness centre; hotel; hospital, office park; school; shopping mall; neighbourhood shops; recreation club and worship centre.
She also highlighted that the Estate located in Enugu State has the following features and advantages - on highway to five states; direct international flights; Air Peace International Hub (coming soon); supporting State Legislation; 14 Tertiary Institutions; large scale industries among others.

Before Ugwuanyi took over from Sullivan Chime, the IGR of Enugu
state between 2013-2014 was 19billion but by 2016-2017 it has
dropped to 14billion, while at thesame period the IGR of Ogun
state rose from 18billion in 2013-2014 to 72billion by 2016-2017.
There is no other person to blame than Ugwuanyi who has failed to
attract or develop investment opportunities in Enugu state. Right
now Enugu cannot compete with kaduna and kano states in terms
of IGR. Funny enough when you highlight these problems online,
his media crew, kinsmen and 042 faithfuls will attack you, you can
confirm that in Enugu threads/forums.

the main reason why the IGR fell was due to change in govt, i believe we shld be expecting nothing less than 25billion by the end of 2017

No my brother, we were never asking for a university of Nigeria, and we didn't ask for fancy roundabouts and flyovers with some housing estates and heavy state government presence.

What Nomeh people asked for was a road so we can travel home in all the months of the year. My townsman died in May last year, and because we know the roads will be impassable, the family had to wait till December when the roads have dried up before they can bury the man!

Is that good enough? We only asked for access roads so my people can come to Enugu easily to sell their farm products.

I also noticed you mentioned Nsukka in bold and Nomeh to draw more people into a baseless argument, are you not trying to cause some mischief this holy morning? I did not mention Nsukka in my own post you quoted.

Lol... Oga Spyder, I understand how u feel, but I want you t know that there are so many communities in Enugu that have not seen any asphalted road in their life time.

My only grouse with you is the allegations that the present govt is spending state funds on a section of the state. The truth is that rural areas have been long neglected in Enugu state and it will take so times before any govt will bridge that gap and I believe that the present administration will surely remember these place as time goes on.

Using same line of thinking, Doesn't somebody represent Enugu north also in the senate? What is he doing, or are you saying we should use state allocated funds meant for all of us to build some selected rural roads because funds are scarce, then hope and wish the senators and representatives do Nkanu east roads?

So, because Nkanu was governor and deputy in the last 16 years we should wallow in underdevelopment? Maybe I should go and blame Chimaroke and Chime for abandoning Nkanu east? I will also be made to go back and blame even Jim Nwobodo too, and possibly Ken Nnamani while my own state funds is being used right now to develop a section of the state.

Saying that state funds are been used for one section of the state is false except ure saying that NSUKKA town should be given the same priority with NOMEH.

But I don't seem to get the meaning of the statement "the present administration does not seem to start project in certain part of the state" if u feel any part of the state is abandoned, say it clearly.

Kudos to the DSP on this very important project.
