When Yoruba people called for an end to one Nigeria after the mile12 abi 2 saga in Lagos, you never called for banning it. I think you have to go and take your medications because this is almost month end. It seems your mental state is usually on the red button whenever its end of month.

No fewer than 3,094 Nigerians have been killed by suspected Boko Haram insurgents and Fulani herdsmen since President
Muhammadu Buhari assumed office on May 29, 2015, Saturday PUNCH investigations have revealed.
Findings by our correspondents based on related killings as reported by the media show that at least 2, 569 persons were
killed by the insurgents while 525 others were killed by the nomadic cattle rearers in the period under review.
It was also learnt that thousands of persons, including women and children, sustained various degrees of injuries from the
attacks.
Available figures indicated that the number of persons killed by the suspected insurgents dramatically dropped after President
Buhari’s four months in office.
In the last days of May 2015, following President Buhari’s inaugural speech, the deadly sect reportedly killed 97 persons and
injured several others.
In June, July, August, September and October 2015, the sect reportedly killed 368, 635, 431, 267, and 279 persons,
respectively.
But starting from November 2015, the number of persons reportedly killed by the sect dipped with November 2015 recording
81 deaths; December, 136; January 2016, 104; February 2016, 90; March 2016, 26; April 2016, 43; and May 2016, 12.
In 2015, Nigeria ranked third in the 2015 Global Terrorism Index, trailing Iraq and Afghanistan.
According to the index, on June 4, 2015, a female suicide bomber in Maiduguri killed two people near a military checkpoint.
On the same day, 45 people were also killed in a Yola market, Adamawa State when a blast ripped through the place.
On July 1, 2015, suicide bombers attacked a hospital in Kukawa, Borno State when Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo visited the
state, killing 118 people.
Also on July 17, 2015, 50 persons were killed when suicide bombers attacked a Muslim prayer ground in Damaturu, Yobe
State.
One of the worst Boko Haram attacks in the last one year include an attack on Dalori village, some four kilometres from
Maiduguri, Borno State on January 30, 2015, where at least 86 people were reportedly killed after an invasion by the
insurgents.
On February 9, 2016, 60 people were reportedly killed while 78 others were wounded when two female suicide bombers
suspected to be Boko Haram members, sneaked into a camp for internally displaced persons in Dikwa, Borno State.
However, the situation did not apply to the casualty figures associated with Fulani herdsmen attacks.
June 2015 recorded 97 deaths arising from suspected Fulani herdsmen attacks; September recorded three; October, 18;
November, 22; December, 28; February 2016, 300; April 2016, 55; and May 2016, two.
Last December, no fewer than 22 persons were reportedly killed when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked Kwata in Jos
South Local government area of Plateau State.
In February 2016, suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked a village in Agatu, Benue State, reportedly killing at least 300 persons.
The attack has been described as one of the worst ever witnessed in the series of attacks by Fulani herdsmen.
In April, 2016, at least 40 persons were also reportedly killed when suspected herdsmen attacked Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local
Government Area of Enugu State.
About seven villages in Nimbo including Ugwuijoro, Ekwuru, Ebor, Umuome and Ugwuachara were among the areas attacked.
No fewer than 10 houses including a church were also said to have been burnt in the attack.
In the same month, suspected Fulani herdsmen also attacked Dori and Mesuma villages in Gashaka Local Government Area
of Taraba State, killing at least 15 people, according to the police. Although, residents said more than 40 persons were killed
and several houses razed by the assailants.
One of the most recent attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen occurred on Friday, May 20, 2016, when two persons were
killed and six others injured following an attack on Oke Ako in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
It was alleged that the assailants had attacked their victims for refusing to allow the herdsmen use their farmland for grazing
their cattle.

ESIDENT BUHARI, THE APC, THE IJAWS, TOMPOLO, THE AVENGERS AND THE REST OF US
Ayiri Emami, recently called on All Progressive Congress, APC, leaders in Delta State to condemn Tompolo, a request I find to be
unconscionably cheeky. Whereas it is clear that the Niger Deltan Avengers are obviously a riotous band of misguided elements
in the region, it is not necessarily clear that Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, is the one behind them.
I consider what Ayiri is presently up to as posing the biggest threat to the precious peace we have been able to build in Warri
and environs in the aftermath of the Warri crisis while also particularly representing the greatest danger to the security and
prosperity of his fellow Itsekiris.
Ayiri may have succeeded in fooling certain Itsekiris that he loves them more than they love themselves. What I am certain of is
the fact that Ayiri hates Ijaws and is particularly envious of Tompolo. That you hate A is never necessarily the equivalent of
your loving B.
Unfortunately for the Itsekiris applauding him as a hero, unlike them, Ayiri has the capacity for relocating his family abroad
should there be another crisis in Warri, thus leaving them to bear the brunt of his insane indiscretions.
While I admit that I have always looked down on Ayiri, it is really because the young man comes across as rather too coarse,
crude, ignorant and arrogant for my liking. Indeed, he emerges before me as some scattered contraption, haphazardly thrown
together, staggering from one embarrassing outing to another.
As a matter of fact, I find it extremely unfortunate that better educated and more enlightened Itsekiris have so far failed to call
Ayiri to order.
How such a character became a chief in Itsekiri land is simply mindboggling. This is a tribe, many of whose members are
historically noted for the pursuit of education and sophistication. How someone like Ayiri became a leader in Itsekiri land of all
places could tenably be rationalized as a case of “How art the mighty fallen!” My earnest prayer is that may God not allow this
to become the lot of such an illustrious ethnic nationality.
At any rate, many of Ayiri’s activities bother on hatred for the Ijaws and his campaign against them amounts to promotion of
native war and incitement to crimes against humanity.
Ayiri should spare us his kindergarten drivel about knowing who the Avengers are while claiming they are being instigated by
Tompolo without evidence to back up his vituperations. If he claims to be a tough man in Niger Delta he should go himself to
personally capture Tompolo and hand him over to the court that declared him wanted.
My candid advise to him is to shut up, come to his senses and stop embarrassing himself, his chieftaincy and his tribe.
Unfortunately, it is this same character that our current Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu has made his de facto personal
assistant, with whom he is to be seen at any given opportunity. I do not find their cordiality to be surprising in the least. If
nothing else, Kachikwu has proved himself to be nothing but a complete failure as a minister. I would urge him to call his
bosom friend, Ayiri to order as that will count as his one and only achievement thus far in office.
Kachikwu is the pathetic excuse for a minister who consistently dishes out tissues of dastardly lies to Nigerians on a regular
basis in his pretended American accent after forgetting to wash off the dye from his scalp!
We had earlier on drawn Mr. President’s attention to the fact that Kachikwu is incompetent, bereft of vision, lacking in
imagination and utterly devoid of leadership qualities. At any rate Kachikwu’s background in the petroleum industry is really
that of a glorified errand boy carrying out the instructions of his white masters.
Lacking any understanding of the oil-producing terrain, he has drawn a noisemaker like Ayiri close, failing to realize that, the
latter is a fellow who could not even protect the oil installations in his beat and had to rely on the same Tompolo he is currently
castigating to come to his rescue!
The problem with the APC is the manner in which it is alarmingly mismanaging its victory. How did characters like Ayiri, who
only opportunistically joined the APC after President Buhari had won gain prominence in the party?
As if the party is not already beset by more than enough problems, the buzz is that all manner of newcomers and hustlers are
now lobbying party leaders with millions to get appointed to boards and parastatals.
Is it that in the case of someone like Tompolo, allegations of corruption constitute a high crime for which he must be hunted
down like a common criminal while in the case of Omatsuli, it is a nonissue because he has the ability to compromise the party
and organs of state or what? If this is what the APC has to offer, how are we then any different from the PDP we replaced on a
platform of change?
I for one have no money to bribe anyone for any appointment. On principle, I am not even going to lobby for anything. Our
President has said he belongs to nobody and belongs to everyone so I am sure he will carry us along. If it is change we really
have, then the change must be seen to be believed and God help the APC if its genuine and authentic stalwarts who did not
wait for Buhari to win before standing with the party, are sidelined in favour of the despicable and verminous rabble of political
hustlers, opportunists and late comers into the party!
All hands must be on deck to assist Mr. President to deliver or we are all done for. If this President fails Nigeria is toast! In order
to succeed, he needs funding as he rightly pointed out at the anti-corruption function recently held in London. We must all
therefore come together to ensure that oil output is never lower than 2 million plus barrels, that our stolen patrimony is retrieved
and not re-looted, that taxes are paid and spent well, and, that delivery and accountability become our national ethos going
forward.
Against the background of the threat posed by the maniacal Avengers, the bitter truth of the matter is that people like Tompolo
had a multitude of persons they catered for, from economically empowering to payment of schools fees, hospital bills, and
house rents for. You cannot begin to imagine the army of youths and other categories of persons reliant on Tompolo’s
patronage.
When such a man goes out of circulation, his followers and dependants become leaderless and rudderless, a potentially toxic
situation with dire consequences. Within this dynamic, he gradually looses authority and his subordinates yield to the
temptation of striking out on their own for sheer survival.
It is indeed extremely strategically foolish to remove a level-headed, pliable and cooperative leader from the midst of persons
as volatile as militants. Once he is not around to dispense patronage, issue instructions and enforce discipline, everyone simply
does exactly what they like. The behavior of the Avengers and various other groups that have recently sprung up is very likely a
consequence of this lacuna.
Such hungry, disappointed and disenchanted persons simply go ahead to engage in the sorts of acts they would never dream
of had the boss been around to curtail their excesses. Indeed, they often turn around to denounce their erstwhile leader, having
begun to see themselves as bosses in their own right!
The idea of crushing Tompolo is ultimately idiotic. We may recall that Olusegun Obasanjo once threw the former leader of the
militants, Asari Dokubo into jail. In the wake of his incarceration, his acolytes, including Tompolo and Henry Okah, formed the
Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, to press for his release. Not only did they effectively strangulate the
Nigerian economy by frustrating oil production to a pitiable minimum, they took to abducting foreign oil workers, a trend that
common criminals them copied which has lead to the epidemic of kidnapping currently ravaging the length and breadth of
Nigeria.
Most people may not realize it, but our present kidnapping pandemic is directly traceable to Obasanjo’s heavy-handed
approach to Niger Deltan agitation and had he not foolhardily incarcerated Asari Dokubo in his typically man of muscle and little
sense approach to everything, MEND would very probably never have been formed and the Niger Deltan crisis might not have
attained the critical level at which it plateaued.
Whatever our differences with Tompolo are, the simple truth is the fact that he has consistently proved to be most capable of
protecting our oil and gas infrastructure.
If it is Tompolo that is bombing the pipelines, then we should negotiate with him to stop. If he is not the one, he still remains
our best bet in stopping it.
Tompolo is simply not the sort of man you hunt down. He is the sort of man you have to carry along.
Governance is not about grandstanding, tough talk, highhandedness or wishfulness. Governance is about maturity, strategic
thinking and securing the national interest.
It would be extremely difficult to convince the likes of Tompolo that they are not being unfairly profiled and unjustly targeted.
Fighting corruption by ignoring court orders, treating suspects as guilty before so proven, or extra-judicially incarcerating
suspects, all constitute a stone age approach to law enforcement in a modern age.
When suspects see what has happened to others before them, they simply vote with their feet rather than put up with the
disgusting excesses of animalistic agencies like the DSS and EFCC.
Rather than hunt down an elusive Tompolo while our oil industry goes comatose and our economic is about to tank, we should
negotiate with him and see what we can get back from him. Freezing his account and leaving him unable to cater for his boys
is simply brainless, counterproductive and self-destructive. In such a situation, they are likely to simply take the bull by the
horns and cause maximum damage in an environment where there’s no leader to call them to order.
I have fought Tompolo before and would fight him all over again if need be. Nevertheless, I do not hate Tompolo and I am too
decent a human being to envy him or anyone else for that matter.
As for Ijaws, the present attempt to demonize them must be solidly and stoically resisted by all men of good conscience.
Ijaws are neither mischief makers nor a people deserving of suspicion or aspersion. Ijaws are, on the contrary, truly wonderful
people and many Ijaws are actually some of the very nicest and kindest people I ever met in my entire life.
The Ijaws and their history and culture interest me a lot and as one of the oldest tribes in West Africa, I consider them to be an
ethnic nationality to be treasured rather than vilified on the entirely contrived grounds they are being currently stigmatized on.
It is neither possible for an entire tribe to be bombing pipelines nor for entire communities to be vandalizing oil and gas
installations. The Nigerian military and security services must up their game and approach their mandate from a perspective of
genuine intelligence. The concept of guilt by association is absolutely untenable and patently unlawful. Anyone planning
another Odi or Zaki Biam in Ijaw land or elsewhere in the Nniger Delta will be stoutly resisted. Needless to say, such persons
would only be additionally booking their appointment with the International Criminal Court, ICC, at The Hague.
Isolating the Ijaws or scrapping the Maritime University is completely unacceptable. Invading Ijaw communities must stop
forthwith and the army must realize that its antiquated approach to counter-militancy is shamefully indefensible. Any fool
should have realized by now that as few as a handful of determined youths can carry out the bombings the rascally Avengers
are guilty of.
Against the present enticement to isolate the Ijaws, we of the Niger Delta must not forget that it is thanks to a struggle
spearheaded by the Ijaws that we got 13% derivation, NDDC and a Niger Delta Ministry. Even faraway Lagos is now set to enjoy
13% thanks to the same struggle.
We must all, as Niger Deltans, stand with our Ijaw brethren at this moment in history. Today it may be the Ijaws, tomorrow it
could be anyone of us.
As an Urhobo man, I elect to love my Ijaw neighbors, confident that any attempt to set them up for a massacre, genocide,
ethnic cleansing or extermination will completely fail. Indeed my prayer for any person out there hoping to induce the Federal
Government into embarking on a criminal and counterproductive targeting of the Ijaws, is that he should become the one and
only victim of his perfidious plan for others.
