Politics / Re: FG Should Pay ASUU Salary Arrears –NLC, TUC by dirifred(m): 9:33am On Nov 26, 2013
Many people hate our nation and the education sector, How can a man in his wildest dream tell FG to encourage ASUU strike? when hunger talks they will resume. EBSU has resumed let them get their pay, when others resume also they will be paid. lecturing, receiving salaries etc are part of official duty, how can the lecturer on strike collect salary? knowing it is official to do so. let them be on strike. no official duty or right should be performed during strike, so please wait till you resume my dear hungry lecturer.
Politics / Re: ASUU, Has Barred Government Officials From Iyayi's by dirifred(m): 4:58pm On Nov 25, 2013
ASUU don be court of law wey fit bar govt from paticipation? If ASUU does not wake up from this day dream soon, they will be left with no university on thier list. EBSU has pulled out, others will follow. The only pain i feel in this matter is that the respectable Prof who died in the struggle is now used by ASUU as a bargaining chip. ASUU wake up. My respect to the family of the Great Prof.

Politics / Re: NLC Yet To Implement N18,000 Minimum Wage For Its Own Workers - Vanguard by dirifred(m): 10:44am On Nov 04, 2013
It is painful that NLC has left their functions for politics.
NLC was surpose to follow up on labour laws, but they prefer to take to strike action without thinking.
ask any young one around you what the function of NLC is you are most likely to get the this response 'THEY GO ON STRIKE'
how long have they been treathening to go on strike over the ASUU strike? instead of wading into the matter to see what the actual problems, what can be done and what is achieveable at the moment to restore the university system they threaten strike.
Very soon, NLC will call for strike, no body will answer. its happening in a small scale already, thats why they go around forcing banks and companies to shotdown for their political strike.
Politics / Re: Name Nigerian Ministers, Public Office Holders Whose Impacts Are Visible by dirifred(m): 1:56pm On Oct 24, 2013
Gregzee: Since NairaLand is a forum where minds can be expressed freely, permit me to say that Nigeria has begun to get things right.
From petite example....for years we had been fielding overaged players for U-17 tournament. Even though we most times went on and won....But something inside me feels sad about that! It simply says "we don't have hope for the future". Could you believe we have been struggling to qualify for AFCON?.
There was a time when you look at the recruitment process into the military, paramilitary and the rest....you loose hope in the country because you wonder whether such people recruited through dubious means can really stand and defend the country in time of need.

When you look at the quality institutions that turn-up teachers and the quality of teachers turned up! you hiss.
Is it the quality of the Airports, or the staff there!

But now from the signals am seeing and level of consciousness I can bet ... we are poised for the better!

So in that line I want you to list, candidly (no politiking here), ministers, stakeholders, public and private office holders you/someone around you feels their work.

GEJ
Manu Garba U-17 Coach
Stephen Keshi
Stella Oduah
AKINWUMI AYODEJI ADESINA,Min. of Agriculture

you may add
I agree with the names on your list, but my opinion is slightly different in their order of appearance.
GEJ
Stella Oduah
Akinwunmi Adesina
the sport people may now follow.

Bludeville: I attended a federal university, I had great lecturers that inspired me both in the classroom and when our paths crossed outside it. I never once had to pay any lecturer anything. And i was never harassed to pay by anybody. I am sure my two hundred and six classmates would tell a similar story. Don't try to paint everything/everyone black. Good to know, was your father a lecturer in same university? or do you have a highly placed relative in the same university?
Back then in school what proctected me was the fact that i was a strong politician, me and some of my friends in politics pasuaded a girl who was being victimise to open up and report, guess how it ended, the lecturer was issue warning in strong terms, but the girl started failing, because the friends of the lecturer were angry because she cried out. we wade into the case again, she became populer as a trouble maker to the lecturers. none of the lecturer got the disciplinary action they deserve. but the girl and my group spent several hours attending meetings, same hour that would have been used for either studying or any other thing we please.
I urge you to name your university, and Nlanders will give you a feel of what happend in your school you pretend not to know. or better still find out from your friends in school days, I believe they have alot to tell you.

tpacalipse: Can I have the name of your institution, department and the lecturers involved in such practices you have mentioned? I could pass the info up to some people in order for it to be looked into.
You must be from the moon, you don't need what you just asked, google and see, or better still go to any university in nigeria, any department and pick any lecturer. you just caught one. if you give enough info about yourself and if you can be trusted not to turn around and give info to those dull heads lecturers, then alot of victimized student will contact you. outside that, quit the pretence, how else will the bright student graduate with grades not good enough to secure a job, while the once with fantastic result can't even express themselves or engage in a discussion in their own field?

Don't go and complain at Phcn office. 2hours? In Nigeria of today. You must be sleeping on okada
Well you may say what you please, I stay in port-harcourt around Rumuokuta area, in my area, PHCN is doing "load shareding" 4day on 4days off. even in the four days on, you may not get up to 20hours of light cumulative for the four days. the same complain is everywhere in PHC everybody runs gen to get light. pay a visit to any filling station in the evening for proof.

PrinceDudu:

the statement below was copied from a friends Facebook page and i totally agree with it.

"By 2015, President Jonathan would have served our nation for six solid years. This, surely, is enough time for him to achieve whatever he is capable of doing for Nigeria. What else is he looking for that is making him desperate to participate in the 2015 presidential election despite warnings that doing so may spark a chain of events capable of culminating into the country’s disintegration"

Thanks for sharing your opinion, I shared mine in my post, I appreciate the maturity with which you shared yours, but my brother, its just your opinion, whether you like it or not it will remain just your opinion. In my opinion, the easiest way to keep Nigeria from disintegrating is for all those northern political commandos to stay mute and give chance for porposeful leadership. Even after GEJ wins 2015, come 2019, the precidency of our dear nation should go to the east. out of 53 year of our indepedence, 37 year or thereabout we had nothern leaders, what can they boast of? put the few year OBJ and GEJ together and you know what i mean. also "Federal Character" is the loudest cry of the north, is federal character not applicable at presidential level? PLS forget the aimless cry from the north, it would have made more sense if the north was crying that power should go to the east.

Many parts of Benin are still like this. Oshobaba has done some, there is alot more to be done. before Osho's 100 days in office for his first tenure, he proposed what he called integrated drainage system, where he brought expartriates to draw a flood control master plan. My question is, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLAN? was the plan completed? will it be executed after Osho's second tenure or is work going-on on the plan? Am from Edo i pay frequent visits home. Of a truth Oshiomole's achievements are over-hyped. but on the general, he has done well

Why is APC Crying again? Is the registration of a new party their problem? instead of going to the grass root to canvas for votes they are every where crying. if crying would have brought any change, CPC would have won the last presidential election with their Crying General crying on national TV, what a shame

Even if he does retrace his steps, it just a matter of time. Remember the episode of Fashola and the bike men he(fashola) enjoyed their support before election and siezed their bikes after election.APC is a party of disgruntled politicians, they are know to do very wierd things to get attention or at least be in the news.
Am very happy that APC is now registered, it will give PDP the much needed opposition so that everybody will seat-up. But APC will not have my vote, not with the crop of politician they have now. I sincerely think GEJ is taking steps in the right direction.
