Nairaland / General / Re: Why Do People Give Credit To Their Mother For Their Success by Djicemob: 8:45am On Jul 11, 2017
divinehand2003:
Mothers are generally regarded as being SWEET. On the other hand, most Nigerian dads don't give a fück about transforming you to become a success. Dads only associate with those kids that end up with success.
Most mums guide you from the very beginning and never leave your side. They pray for you, feed you, care for you, and advise you so as to become successful. They are always there for you. Again, we call them sweet-mother we can't forget.
And who says a Dad cant be sweet and supportive?

Note:I was raised by a single mother. But that doesn't mean we should be unfair to all dads out there.

Music/Radio / Re: The Difference Between A LP, An EP, An Album And A Mixtape by Djicemob: 8:21am On Jul 11, 2017
EP: Released after an album, sort of like a continuation or conclusive part of an artiste previous album.Usually short in length.

LP: A full compilation of songs or body of work.

Mixtape: Usually sampled tracks and experimental body of work often dished out for free.

But naija artistes often get it twisted,an artiste without an album to his or her name releases a body of work and calls it an EP just to feel trendy.'Every body dey release something the call am EP,me sef my I do my own'.

A rapper releases an album and calls it mixtape.Cos it's the latest thing on board.

I am not understanding.

Lauren Nicole London (born December 5, 1984) is an American film actress, model, television personality and occasional television actress. Beginning her career in music videos and later transitioning into film and television acting, London earned recognition for her performance in the 2006 film ATL as well as the television shows 90210 and Entourage. and as Kiera Whitaker on the BET Comedy-drama, The Game.

London was born in los angeles, california to an African-American mother and a Caucasian Jewish American father. After attending Palisades High School, London was home schooled, giving her time to audition for films, music videos and commercials.

We ran a simple poll in our own way and most of the readers at CP feels London tops the list and we at CP just cant argue on the contrary, she just gotta be the one. yea?

TV/Movies / 10 Best Movies Of 2016 So Far by Djicemob: 10:14am On Jul 16, 2016
OK, before we get into this, we need to be totally up-front: so far, the year at the box office has been BLEAK. Sure, Hollywood's pockets are doing just fine—studios like Disney continue to effortlessly hit the $1 billion-mark—but, in terms of quality, the first half of 2016's crop of movies has been remarkably lackluster, to the point that we triple-checked to make sure we weren't forgetting any movies. So what's going on?

But obviously, we're also here to tell you that there were some diamonds, though most of them were in the rough. Here are 25 movies from 2016 that are actually worth checking out. And just know that things are only going to get better.

Let now go to the matter of the day...

10. KNIGHT OF CUPS

Director: Terrence Malick
Starring: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Freida Pinto, Isabel Lucas, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots

Does a Terrence Malick movie need to make any sense? Not really.

In typical Malick fashion, Knight of Cups isn’t about much on the surface—it's philosophical or whatever. It follows Rick (Christian Bale), a depressed but decidedly #blessed LA screenwriter, who while flourishing professionally is missing something deeper that he can’t quite figure out. That self-exploration, in the case of so many L.A. men, comes in the form of women. Rick’s story is told in dreamy, gorgeous vignettes about the women in his life, from a former marriage (with Cate Blanchett no less!) to an affair with a married woman (Natalie Portman). There’s more to it than just women though, as it explores Rick’s clearly complex relationship with his addict brother (Wes Bentley) and his thoughts about Hollywood.

9. THE NICE GUYS

Director: Shane Black
Starring: Russell Crowe, Ryan Gosling, Angourie Rice

Before he went and wrote and directed the third Iron Man, Shane Black had an underrated movie called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which was a weird, twistedly funny neo-noir depiction of Los Angeles. The Nice Guys is more of the same, teaming up a shabby private investigator (Gosling) with a gruff enforcer-type (Crowe) who unreel a conspiracy theory involving both the porn and auto industries in the '70s. The movie is impeccably styled, and the plot is amusingly winding, but not so much that it'd break your brain. But most of all, The Nice Guys hangs its hat on the chemistry and performances of Crowe and Gosling, an unlikely bro-pair who are a pleasure to watch. Crowe is great as a laconic, emotionally damaged tough guy, and as Holland March, Gosling proves that maybe he's at his best when he's talking A LOT, rather than when he's barely muttering a word. —Andrew Gruttadaro

8. GREEN ROOM

Director: Jeremy Saulnier
Starring: Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat

This insane idea that's been swimming in director Jeremy Saulnier's mind for years finally saw the light of day this year as the stylized Green Room, a single-location horror-thriller about a defenseless punk band trapped in the green room of a music venue run by bloodthirsty white supremacists. This is only Saulnier's third feature, but he made indie buzz with 2014's bloodbath Blue Ruin, finding a fan in Patrick Stewart, who then signed on to do the director's latest project. The gentleman we've come to associate as Professor Xavier does a complete 180, playing a terrifying neo-Nazi leader, whose calm and collected manner is only a facade for the brutality he's capable of. Anton Yelchin and Alia Shawkat star as scared shitless band members, and Imogen Poots plays fellow hostage, whose trust is constantly questioned. As if the premise couldn't get any crazier, Green Room is partly inspired by the director's own life, from his D.C. punk band days when he used to run into neo-Nazis himself.

7. KRISHA

Director: Trey Edward Shults
Starring: Krisha Fairchild, Olivia Grace Applegate, Bryan Casserly

Krisha is a family movie, but not the heartwarming kind. It's more like A Woman Under the Influence (oddly enough, the film won a John Cassavetes prize at the Independent Spirit Awards this year), about an estranged alcoholic woman coming home for the holidays to reunite with her family members, not all who are ready to welcome her back with open arms. The story itself is not that original, but it's filtered through the lens of a filmmaker whose craft mirrors that of Terrence Malick (Knight of Cups, which is on this list). It's no coincidence, then, that first-time feature director, the 27-year-old Trey Edward Shults, interned for Malick in his late teens. As with Malick's films, the cinematography in Krisha is phenomenal, and paired with a minimal but ominous score, there's a stylistic flourish that's not usually distinguishable in a first-timer.

6. EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!!

Director: Richard Linklater
Starring: Blake Jenner, Tyler Hoechlin, Glen Powell, Zoey Deutch

It’s super easy to be wary about Richard Linklater’s spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused, his 1993 stoner bro comedy classic, a film rabidly beloved to many. How could anything live up to it?

Turns out something can! Everybody Wants Some follows Jake (Blake Jenner) to college a couple days before school is supposed to start. He’s a lowly freshman on the baseball team and has a lot to learn from his elders, who endlessly haze him and his fellow freshman. Much like Dazed, not much happens—Jake bonds with his fellow team members (including sage guide and standout Glen Powell as Finnegan), falls for a girl, and parties every minute possible.

5. HAIL, CAESAR!

Directors: Joel and Ethan Coen
Starring: Josh Brolin, George Clooney, Alden Ehrenreich, Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton

The Coen brothers have hardcore dramas and then they romps. Hail, Caesar! is the latter. A throwback to the "glory days" of 1950s Hollywood, the movie follows studio fixer Eddie Mannix as he weaves in and out of different movie sets—which serve as incredible vignettes, especially the ones featuring Scarlett Johansson and a tap-dancing Channing Tatum—while trying to solve a larger mystery, the disappearance of his biggest star, Baird Whitlock (George Clooney). It's a perfect setup for the Coens to flex their love and knowledge of Old Hollywood, poke fun at Communism, and put together some amazing scenes about the "magic" of filmmaking.

4. DEADPOOL

Director: Tim Miller
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein

With a budget of about $58 million, it's clear Fox didn't realize the potential of Deadpool. I mean damn, just look at how long they let that amazing test footage (which essentially became the ultraviolent sequence in the beginning of the film) sit on someone’s hard drive. But no bother. What the folks behind the film did, budget be damned, was nail the voice of Marvel’s Merc With a Mouth perfectly, demolishing the fourth wall while cracking all of the pop culture references in the middle of a gun brawl. Deadpool was the role that Ryan Reynolds has been waiting for his entire life, and with the hard R in place, the movie not only turned the tropes that make the superhero genre on their ears, but showed that these comic book franchise films don’t have to be PG/PG-13 catfights. Deadpool catered to its bloodthirsty audience, and smashed a shitload of records while doing so.

3. THE WITCH

Director: Robert Eggers
Starring: Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie

A24 is making some of the best indie films in the game at present, and one of this year's greatest cinematic offerings was Robert Eggers' breakout horror flick, The Witch. A period film set in 17th-century New England, The Witch is a heavily researched suspense thriller that explores the very real mass hysteria that plagued New England's earliest settlers. With roots in recorded folklore from the same period, Eggers tapped the darkest parts of satanic panic to set the tone for this terrifying feature.

Exiled from the safety of their settlement, a family is forced to fend for themselves against the elements and the unknown under the direction of the family’s patriarch, William (Ralph Ineson). When strange occurrences begin to affect the family and one of their own goes missing, their already strained relationships begin to fray. The family’s eldest, Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), is the first to begin to question her god, but it’s not long after that the rest begin to follow suit.

2. CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Directors: Anthony and Joe Russo
Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Daniel Bruhl

Marvel had some high expectations going into Captain America: Civil War, the thirteenth film in their Cinematic Universe, and the kick-off of Phase Three, meant to set the tone for everything Marvel plans to release through 2019. With Batman v Superman trying (and kind of failing) the whole “when heroes collide” thing, Marvel upped the ante, piling on new characters to their Universe like Spider-Man and Black Panther, both of whom come off swimmingly. While the story was a solid culmination of all of the insanity that has happened on the Avengers’ watch, it also did a great job of showcasing just how far Cap will go for his day-one, Bucky Barnes. On a whole, it continued to establish the Captain America series as one of the most untouchable franchises under Marvel’s umbrella, and ended up being the epic that Avengers: Age of Ultron should have been.

And the winner is...

1. THE LOBSTER

Director: Yorgos Lanthimos
Starring: Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, Ben Whishaw, John C. Reilly

If you think dating is undignified in 2016, let us present you with an alternative. If you ever find yourself uncoupled (consciously or unconsciously), you’ll check into a hotel, strip down, change into a uniform in which half-sizes aren’t an option, choose a sexuality in which bisexual isn’t an option, and embark upon a journey to find your next lover. Should you fail, pick out a nice animal, because that’s what you’ll be turning into for the rest of your life.

That premise alone is bizarre enough, but what makes The Lobster capital-W Weird and Wonderful is how normal it’s treated. Colin Farrell and his fellow hotel singles dryly navigate their way through the do-or-transform singles destination bathed in muted hues. Even the decision itself to pick a partner is rooted more in practicality than emotion. Would you rather fake it through a relationship as a human or hold out for true love until you become a cockatoo? When that’s the only opportunity to make your own decision, you better choose correctly.

There you have it,you can share and comments your thoughts on the subject.

Music/Radio / Checkout Top Ten Best Hiphop Beats Of All Times by Djicemob: 8:47am On Jul 16, 2016
Creating the perfect beat is a combined matter of timing, creative genius and just the right rapper to complement it. Since hip-hop's inception, producers spanning The Bomb Squad and J Dilla to Just Blaze and Kanye West have crafted instrumentals that have stood the test of time, but none more so than a handful of premier craftsmen -- DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Dr. Dre -- who have minted the best beats in the genre's history. Read on for our countdown of the top 10 hip-hop beats of all time.

10. Lil Wayne, "A Milli," produced by Bangladesh

Perhaps the most influential beat of the 21st century, this Bangladesh banger single-handedly started a new wave of trap that took the early innovations of Atlanta cats like Shawty Redd and DJ Toomp to the future. Nothing more than a hypnotically repetitive patois vocal sample (from a ridiculously obscure Tribe Called Quest remix) over an 808 drum kit, it's ridiculously simple, but you could freestyle over it endlessly. That rat-a-tat snare breakdown is the probably most copied drum fill in recent memory.

9. Jay Z featuring Amil and Jaz-O, "N---a What, N---a Who?," produced by Timbaland

Timbaland has always had a genius knack for crafting beats that sound like they're from the future. Some have become outdated, but the one that still sounds the most like the year 3000 was given to Jay Z for his classic "N---a What, N---a Who?" With its strobe synths and stuttering drums, Timbo provides a sonic template with pockets of silence that Jay fills with a constantly shifting meter. The chemistry is evident to this day.

8. Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell, “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” produced by The Neptunes

Since the beginning of their reign as two of rap’s greatest creative minds, the Neptunes’ Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo proved to be masters of both minimalism (Clipse’s “Grindin’”) and maximalism. But their best instrumental slots in the latter. With "Drop It like It's Hot," the Virginia duo provided a breathable landscape comprised of fingersnaps, mouth clicks and a Juno 106 synth that combined to form a beat that harnessed the pure keyboard sounds of the '70s and surrounded it with highly experimental percussion that paid off.

7. Puff Daddy and the Family, “All About the Benjamins,” produced by Deric " D-Dot " Angelettie

Puff Daddy typically leaned on his production group The Hitmen to mine samples from ‘60s and ‘70s records and flip them into shiny bucolic fare (Notorious B.I.G.’s “Mo Money Mo Problems,” Puff Daddy’s “Been Around the World”). But the peak of The Hitmen’s output came with “All About the Benjamins,” helmed by Deric “D-Dot” Angelettie, who slowed down a guitar lick from Love Unlimited’s “I Did It For Love” and made it the centerpiece atop whizzing percussion. It was dizzying and satiating, all at once, playing background to some of the finest bars from the Bad Boy crew.

6. Wu-Tang Clan, "C.R.E.A.M.," produced by RZA

The backdrop for Wu-Tang's most iconic song, this beat exemplified RZA's ridiculously prolific peak period. His dusty, rich soul samples -- here courtesy of the Charmels' "As Long As I've Got You" -- inspired folks like Kanye West and Just Blaze, and the drunken drum loop popularized swinging drums in an age of quantized, clockwork boom-bap. It all came together on "C.R.E.A.M.," a smear of organs, church-y wails, and an unforgettable piano melody that perfectly represented the bleak hood nightmares described by Raekwon and Inspektah Deck.

5. Mobb Deep, “Shook Ones Part II,” produced by Havoc

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy and Havoc spun a dark world for their classic 1995 debut The Infamous, with an even darker sonic landscape -- chalk it up to Havoc’s keen ear for gritty samples that pull together sounds from different records. It was with “Shook Ones Part II” that he perfected his craft, pulling from songs by Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Daly Wilson Big Band to create a menacing late-night instrumental that seamlessly coalesced with the pair’s tale of turf wars and chest thumps.

4. Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Dogg, “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” produced by Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre has consistently doled out classic beats for his own albums as well as sets from a wide range of artists like Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani and Eminem. Nothing epitomized the West Coast G-Funk sound more than “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang,” which established instrumental and percussive conventions that still dominate the area’s sound today. Recalling the funk sound of Parliament Funkadelic and interpreting it in the rising genre of hip-hop at the time, the instrumental served as the undisputable foundation of an entire movement.

3."In da Club", produced by DR DRE
"In da Club" was performed by American rapper 50 Cent from his debut studio album Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003). The song was written by 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, and Mike Elizondo and produced by Dr. Dre with co-production credit from Elizondo. The track was released in January 2003 as the album's lead single and was praised by music critics.

"In da Club" peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming 50 Cent's first number one single on that chart. At the 46th Grammy Awards, it was nominated for Best Male Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song. The song's music video won Best Rap Video and Best New Artist at the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards. In 2009, the single was listed at number 24 in Billboard's Hot 100 Songs of the Decade. It was listed at number 13 in Rolling Stone's "Best Songs of the Decade" all thanks to one of the greatest beat maker in pop-culture.When "In da Club" was released it was instantly all DJs and club rockers favourite, with its unique and equally dancable blend of instrumentation by DRE himself there was no way the song wasn't going to be a hit.

2. Nas, "NY State of Mind," produced by DJ Premier

DJ Premier is arguably the best hip-hop producer of all time, and this may he his finest beat, and the one that represents him the best. He was raised in Texas before moving east, but his mid '90s work -- particularly on Nas' flawless Illmatic debut -- basically exemplifies the classic New York underground sound that folks like Joey Bada$$ idolize to this day. It's been called "boom bap," and the drums that start this classic Nas highlight (arguably the best album opener of all time) could very well be the inspiration for the term. It features also another Premier signature -- one of his weird, unidentifiable monotone chirps, sampled from who knows where -- and then the piano riff fades in, as sinister as the darkest Queensbridge stairwell. There's no escape from the street scenarios it inspired Nas to describe -- or this unforgettable beat once it gets into your nodding head.

1.DR DRE "Still D.R.E", produced by DR DRE

"Still D.R.E." was performed by Dr. Dre, featuring fellow American rapper Snoop Dogg. It was released on October 13, 1999 as the lead single from Dre's multi-platinum second studio album, 2001 (1999).

The single itself was popular, helping the album reach multi-platinum status, announcing Dre's return to the forefront of the hip-hop scene. "Still D.R.E." debuted and peaked at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was more successful in the United Kingdom,on the R&B charts at #1 where it peaked but what pricked our attention on C.P is the instrumentation of this banging hiphop tune,i mean there has never any beat better to match the richness of this DRE cut which cement Dre's legacy as the G.O.A.T in terms of beat making.

With three songs on the list DRE takes this one easily...however if you have a contrary opinion let us know in the comment section...and watchout for the nigerian version("Top 10 best nigerian instrumentals of all times" on crazypenners..com)
