Drones have not replaced fighter jets.

Israel did not gain Air superiority over Iran with Drones, neither did America attack the Iranian Nuclear sites with Drones.

Drones are meant to compliment in the areas of Reconnaissance and light attack, not fully replace.

You need fighter jets for fortified structures and embedded enemy command centers. The enemy threats Nigeria faces have none of that. Rag tag elements on foot is what we are facing. Drones are far more than enough for that.

The cheapest missile in the Nigerian Airforce arsenal is around 5000 dollars. That's over 8 million naira per missile. Each fighter jet costs far over 5000 dollars per hour of operation. Compare this with a loitering drone that costs less than 3000 dollars carrying an explosive warhead of less than 1000 dollars.

Fighter jets can't effectively provide air support and that's why the Americans developed the AC-130. A propeller driven plane that can loiter above the theatre for hours while dropping deadly munitions.

There is a reason why the US has made it mandatory for every US army unit to have drone teams attached. They learnt very fast from Ukraine

Nigeria will not face any near peer adversary soon. Buying fighter jets is a waste of valuable resources.
