IkwerrePikin: Over 5000 traders at the Ikoku Spare parts market in the Mile 3 axis of Port Harcourt have been given an impromptu eviction notice of three weeks by their landowners. The landlords did not offer any reason for their action.
Chairman of the market, Anthony Alaribole in an interview with newsmen said many of the traders are yearly tenants who have been operating in Ikoku for about 30-50 years. He said they have been thrown into confusion because of the short notice.
He also alleged that the eviction notice is a strategy to destabilize the traders because of the matter they have with the police and the state government due to their demand of justice for the late Chima Ikwunado and the Ikoku4.
Some traders who spoke to City News appealed to the landlords to give them more time to plan their next move as no other location has been provided for them.
They also appealed to the state government to intervene and provide an alternative for them considering the important service they render to the society.
Though the State Government is yet to issue a an official statement on the development, City News gathered there are moves to relocate the traders to somewhere around Eleme junction.

Penaldo: Blunt, vocal and determined, award winning director Dickson Iroegbu has become a leading voice in the call for power shift to south east Nigeria. In this interview with Uzor Ngoladi, he further bares his mind on the impending doom that will befall Nigeria as an entity if the clarion call is not heeded in 2023. Excerpts:
Many pressure groups are agitating for a president of south east extraction come 2023. Don’t you think is premature?
We want power to move around the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. It is the turn of the south east to lead Nigeria. The truth of the matter is that our case is like a pregnancy. When it is due for the child to be born, the child should come out naturally. If there is anything abnormal that will make the child not to come out when it is due, the mother of the child will definitely be seen as abnormal. Nigeria as a country is abnormal today because of the level of injustices that has been meted out to the south eastern part of the country. 2023 is actually the only available opportunity for Nigeria to redeem her image as it affects the south eastern part of Nigeria. After the civil war, we said ‘no victor, no vanquished’. How has that been applied as it affects the south easterners? You will agree with me that the south easterners have not been reconciled to mainstream Nigerian political system. 2023 provides us opportunity to do that. If we miss it, then people who are holding extreme position about Nigeria will be justified. If we are denied our rightful position to preside over Nigeria in 2023, I am sorry to say that Nigeria may no longer exist. That’s about it. You can’t keep pushing people to the extreme and expect them not to react. Dr Nwodo just granted an interview about this same matter. He clearly stated that the elites of eastern part of Nigeria will have sympathy towards Nnamdi Kanu’s struggle if we are denied presidency. Nnamdi Kanu has continued to say that there is no place for us in Nigeria. But we keep telling him to give us a chance in Nigeria. 2023 is the deciding factor. Every southern will reconsider the relationship that brought us together as a country if we don’t take a shot at the presidency. Nigeria’s amalgamation happened without consultation with the Nigerian people. There is urgent need to reintegrate the south easterners into the mainstream political structure of Nigeria in 2023. If this is not done, Nigeria will come to an end. There are prominent south easterners who are being singled out to preside over this nation. We have Peter Obi on our minds because everybody knows that we require a prudent leadership to save Nigeria. Without prudent management of the resources of Nigeria, we are in a mess as a country. Nigeria needs Peter Obi right now because Buhari’s government has battered Nigeria. There is no direction. The economy is comatose. The nepotism style of governance has divided the country. The government agencies are fighting each other. We need Peter Obi who has the experience and knows what to do on arrival. Power must shift to the eastern part of Nigeria and Peter Obi is equal to the task in 2023.
Governor El Rufai has added his voice to this agitation. Do you think he is being sincere or just playing to the gallery?
El Rufai wants power to shift to the south but he did not narrow it down to the south east. He is just re-echoing what they have in their constitution in APC. For them, power should rotate between north and south. We have gone beyond that north and south approach to governance. We have six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. It was discussed during the 1995 Abacha constitutional conference. El Rufai should first of all realize that Nigeria has come of age. Those who were born in 1999 during the birth of this democracy are now adults. The information we have is that El Rufai is part of the northern voices that has continued to fan the embers of division, conflicts and violence. Look at the level of violence in his state. Look at southern Kaduna. I expect El Rufai to be specific and make it clear that power must shift to south eastern Nigeria. He should call a spade, a spade and declare that an Igbo must become president. If an Igbo man says it, it is misunderstood. There is this palpable fear when an igbo man is mentioned. He should stop playing selfish politics. If you look at it clearly, he is positioning himself to become vice president. The rumour is rife that he will be running on a joint ticket with Rotimi Amaechi. El Rufai should be truthful to himself and put Nigeria’s interest first.
Bola Tinubu is also rumoured to be nursing presidential ambition?
All Nigerians are constitutionally qualified to contest for presidency. It is the right of every Nigerian to aspire for leadership but Nigeria is a peculiar nation. We must be deliberate about how we play politics. If the likes of Bola Tinubu who everyone agrees succeeded in building a political structure in south west with which he often negotiates with powers that be, for the interest of Nigeria he should shelve his selfish ambition. The south west has had eight years of presidency. The south west is about to finish eight years of vice presidency. What does Tinubu want? What is this greed for power? Lagos is already in his pocket. Beyond the zoning formula, Tinubu is not a character that I will personally want to have as a president of Nigeria. Tinubu is a greedy man and a kleptomaniac. I sincerely think that his ambition exposes his greed for power and wealth which he already has. Tinubu is a tribalist and will be worse than Buhari as a president. By now, Tinubu is supposed to start shopping for an Igbo president in APC where he is the national leader. Ogbonnaya Onu is a member of APC. Will you say he is not qualified to lead this country? We have enough Igbos in APC that can lead Nigeria. Tinubu should not allow ambition to becloud him from good reasoning. He should learn from MKO Abiola’s experience.
How would you react to the crisis in Edo State?
Tinubu is the national leader of APC. Of course, he is directly involved in what is happening in Edo state. It is all about 2023. How can you disqualify a sitting governor that has served for four years based on allegations of certificate forgery? They just want to grab Edo state by all means. Edo is very important to them but unfortunately Edo State is not Lagos. My only advice to Edo people is that Nigerians are with them. Let the elections not be violent. Choose your leaders by yourselves not by godfathers. Godfatherism was abolished by Adams Oshiomole, Godwin Obaseki is continuing in the vision to kill godfatherism. It does not matter whether the godfather is Adams Oshiomole or Bola Tinubu. Godfatherism should be totally eradicated in Nigeria because it has not paid us. The violence we experience during elections in Nigeria is caused by godfathers. That is the truth.

Ondo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Agboola Ajayi has resigned his membership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). The Deputy Governor appreciates the National Leadership and members of the party for their warm reception and acceptance in the short period he rejoined the party.

Recall that the Deputy Governor rejoined the PDP on June 21st, 2020, at his home town, Kiribo and contested as the governorship candidate of the party in the party's primary election held on 22nd of July, 2020.

The running mate of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, Gani Audu, is embroiled in a certificate forgery case, as documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show discrepancies in his academic qualifications and other means of identification.
The discrepancies appear in a number of documents and show a trail similar to the inconsistencies found in the academic credentials of the sacked deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, which caused the APC to lose the state after the Supreme Court ruled that his certificates were defective thereby nullifying the party’s ticket in that state's recent governorship election.
To compound Audu’s woos, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has instituted a court case at the Federal High Court, Abuja, seeking the court to disqualify the candidate of the APC as result of the defective certificates of his running mate.
The ADP is asking the court to rule that certificates submitted by Audu are forged and that he was not fit to stand for the September 19 governorship election in Edo.
In the documents, while Gani Audu swore to an affidavit submitted to INEC with his name as Audu Abudu Ganiyu, his other documents bear conflicting names.
A legal expert, Mr. Blessed Omonuwa, who assessed the documents, said, “While his name on the affidavit is Audu Abudu Ganiyu, in his voter's card, his name is Audu Abdul Ganiyu. Likewise, in his APC membership card, his name appears as Gani Audu. The WASSCE/GCE certificate he submitted bears Audu Ahudu Ganeyu. His APC membership card bears the name Audu Gani. The discrepancies are bewildering. The action violates section 182 (1) (j) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (As amended).”
“Hence, there is no way we can say that a person with this conflict of names is the same as the Gani Audu we see today on the campaign trail of the candidate of the APC.
“The only explanation one can hazard is that he may have used the academic credentials of another person and tried to pass off as that person. The case is watertight and may well spell the end of the APC campaign trail as they are sure to suffer the same fate as their party’s candidate in Bayelsa, who had similar liabilities in his certificate.”

Whiteangel1234: The President-General, Igbo Community in Bauchi, Chidi Chukwunta, has said that the fact that the country is centred on a tripod of tribes, the Igbo extraction would mobilise for the emergence of its kinsmen as president in 2023.
Chukwunta made the statement in Bauchi on Sunday after being sworn in as the new President of the Igbo Community in the state. He said that he would do everything possible to get Igbo united to take over power in the next general elections.
“Considering the fact that other tribes have been on that throne, as the President of the Igbo here in Bauchi, I will support every move to ensure that an Igboman become a president in 2023,” Chukwunta said.
The Igbo leader, however, called for the unity of his kinsmen to foster development.
Chukwunta applauded the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, in ensuring the safety of Igbo in the State.
“Crisis has become a thing of the past in Bauchi but I know that there is insecurity in Borno and Kaduna and other part of the North but we are enjoying peace in Bauchi,” he said.
The newly elected president enjoined the Igho residents in Bauchi to be law-abiding, saying their welfare is his priority.
There are six states comprising Igbo Community in the State–Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra and part of Delta according to Chukwunta.
Gov Wike fires at Buhari for supporting APC’s Ize-Iyamu

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has wondered why President Muhammadu Buhari is supporting the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu for the forthcoming election.
According to Wike, it was wrong for Buhari, whose main agenda is fighting corruption, to back Ize-Iyamu, who, according to him, is being charged for graft.
Governor Wike is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Campaign Council for the Edo State governorship election.
Ize-Iyamu of the APC will battle it out with the incumbent governor and PDP candidate, Godwin Obaseki, in the September 19, 2020 polls.
The Rivers State Governor believes that Ize-Iyamu, who, according to him, is being tried by one of the anti-graft agencies, should not be enjoying the presidential support.
“The main agenda of Mr President is to fight corruption, how can he support the APC candidate that his own agency has charged for corruption ?” He tweeted.
“Except they are saying he was charged because he was in PDP and his sins have been wiped away because he is now in APC,” he added.
AseV: The Senator representing Abia North, Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu has stated that only the All Progressives Congress (APC) has capacity to produce a President of Igbo origin, ABN TV reports.
He made this declaration in Arochukwu on Friday at The Party House shortly after the funeral ceremony of Late Jumbo Offor, a former South East head of Police Service Commission.
Addressing loyalists drawn from across party line, Sen. Kalu who is the Senate Chief Whip said APC has the popularity to make the dream of Igbo Presidency a reality.
The federal lawmaker also at the event welcomed hundreds of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and PDP in Arochukwu into the APC.
Recall that other regions have had their shot of the Presidency since the return of democracy in 1999, leaving Igbo behind.
The speculation that the APC national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a South Westerner is eyeing the Presidency is one that the Igbo in APC has frowned at.
A South Westerner, Olusegun Obasanjo was the President between 1999-2007 and later succeeded by a Northerner, Umar Musa Yar'Adua whose lasted just three years in office before he passed on.
Goodluck Jonathan, his vice then completed the one year left in the tenure and later contested for number one seat in 2011 and won.
He however lost his second term bid in 2015 to the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari who contested on the platform of All Progressives Congress, an amalgam of political interest who came together to challenge and ousted the then ruling PDP.
President Buhari’s second comes to an end in 2023 when it is expected that other regions will support a South Easterner become the next President since it remains the only region in the past 30 years that has not produced the President.

The Edo State Government has called on Edo people to hold the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, responsible for any dramatic spike in new coronavirus cases in the state.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said the warning became imperative as the APC and its candidate did not follow the necessary coronavirus (COVID-19) health and safety protocols in organising its campaign flag-off at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) Sports Complex in Benin City, on Saturday.
According to him, “We are aware that the campaign flag-off was held without adherence to the protocols emplaced by the Federal Government through the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Edo State Government to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.
“There may have been pretenses to have organised a semblance of a COVID-19 health and safety protocol, but we know that to be a charade because tests were not conducted in the case of people turning up with high temperature and samples were not collected for suspected cases.”
Osagie added that it was most regrettable that the APC would endanger the lives and safety of the people, urging the public to be on the alert should there be an escalation of cases of the virus in the state.
“The Edo State Government had over the last few months ensured that the people are protected from the vagaries of the pandemic, which had informed the data-driven approach to the pandemic. But it is only regrettable and condemnable that the APC is making a mockery of the hard work invested in protecting the people from the pandemic by exposing them to the virus without caring about how these would lead to rise in cases of the virus in the state.”
