TV/Movies / See What Rivers House Member Wrote About Tacha that got people talking by domesifa(m): 11:15pm On Sep 27, 2019
TACHA

Little helpless girl. She came from nowhere, she pushed herself with no help from nowhere, she had no big family name, they say she had no pedigree. I think she made her mark, she told her story her own way, she made the news. The one with the trophy is not always the biggest winner. I don't watch Big Brother and I don't even care about it, but I took note of this particular girl everyone spoke positive and negative things about. Biggest of all is that she is from Rivers State. Whether she smells or not, whether she is fluent in English or not, Whether she has finesse or not, one thing is certain... she is from Rivers State and I don't abandon my own. She may be the worst person in the world, but leave her for me, she is my sister. Come back home my dear #Tacha we love you the way you are. No one is ever perfect. You did not pretend to be who you're not. #Tacha.

Can I use a dstv dish for it?

There's nothing like DSTV dish . All dishes are the same, just what's written on it makes it what you call DSTV dish. The important thing is that big (90cm) dish receives better signal than the small (60cm) dish. I recommend any BIG dish. Cheers

Education / JAMB To Use National Identification Number For 2020 Registration by domesifa(m): 10:44am On Sep 25, 2019
THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised candidates wishing to write the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to register with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enable them obtain the National Identification Number (NIN).

The board said the NIN would be compulsory for UTME registration next year.

It insisted that only candidates with NIN would be allowed to sit for the examination next year.

JAMB said it would no longer capture the biometrics of candidates as information required by the board would be uploaded from the data captured by the NIMC for registration.

Its Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained the board’s position on NIN in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja.

Benjamin said the NIN would guard against all forms of registration infractions.

He said: “Henceforth, the National Identification Number (NIN) would be compulsory for the UTME registration.

“All candidates desiring to register for the 2020 UTME, other JAMB processes, are urged to visit the nearest NIMC centre or its licensed agents for the NIN registration ahead of the UTME registration, if they have not done so.”

Dr. Benjamin stressed that candidates would be required to present their NIN at the point of registration.

He said the board has made arrangements with NIMC for candidates who do not have the NIN to be registered at the centre by NIMC or its licensed agents.

The JAMB spokesperson advised candidates who had registered and acquired the NIN before attaining the age of 16 to update their NIN registration status before proceeding for the UTME registration.

“If a candidate has NIN but has misplaced the number, he/she can retrieve the NIN by either going to any NIMC office/its licensed agents or dialling *346# (USSD Code) on the SIM number earlier used to register for the NIN and the NIN would be sent to the candidate.

“If he/she does not have the SIM number used for the NIN registration, such a candidate should visit the nearest NIMC centre or any of its licensed agents.

“Candidate’s name, as arranged on the NIMC data base, would be same on JAMB data after registration.

“If any candidate has complaints of name arrangement such a candidate should first rectify such issue with NIMC before proceeding for registration,” he added.

Politics / Nigeria-benin Border Partially Closed Due To Smuggling Activities -presidency by domesifa(m): 12:42am On Aug 30, 2019
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

NIGERIA-BENIN BORDER PARTIALLY CLOSED DUE TO SMUGGLING ACTIVITIES, SAYS PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari has attributed the partial closure of Nigeria’s border with Benin Republic to the massive smuggling activities, especially of rice, taking place on that corridor.
The Nigerian leader gave the reason during an audience granted his Beninois counterpart, Patrice Talon, on the margins of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD7), in Yokohama, Japan on Wednesday.

President Buhari, who expressed great concern over the smuggling of rice, said it threatened the self-sufficiency already attained due to his administration’s agricultural policies.

According to him, “Now that our people in the rural areas are going back to their farms, and the country has saved huge sums of money which would otherwise have been expended on importing rice using our scarce foreign reserves, we cannot allow smuggling of the product at such alarming proportions to continue.”

The Nigerian President said the limited closure of the country’s western border was to allow Nigeria’s security forces develop a strategy on how to stem the dangerous trend and its wider ramifications.

Responding to the concerns raised by President Talon on the magnitude of suffering caused by the closure, President Buhari said he had taken note and would reconsider reopening in the not too distant future.

He, however, disclosed that a meeting with his counterparts from Benin and Niger Republics would soon be called to determine strict and comprehensive measures to curtail the level of smuggling across their borders.

Earlier, President Talon had said he called on the Nigerian President as a result of the severe impact the closure of the Nigerian border was having on his people.

President Buhari also received in audience, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa during which issues of common bilateral relations especially, the killings of Nigerians in South Africa, were discussed. The matter will be further examined during the Nigerian leader’s official visit to Pretoria in October 2019.

Business / US To Increase Rate Of Tax Of Goods From China by domesifa(m): 10:24pm On Aug 23, 2019
US President Donald Trump continues his review of US- China business relationship by pronouncing increase in tax rate of trades from China

He wrote thus

For many years China (and many other countries) has been taking advantage of the United States on Trade, Intellectual Property Theft, and much more. Our Country has been losing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year to China, with no end in sight. Sadly, past Administrations have allowed China to get so far ahead of Fair and Balanced Trade that it has become a great burden to the American Taxpayer. As President, I can no longer allow this to happen! In the spirit of achieving Fair Trade, we must Balance this very unfair Trading Relationship. China should not have put new Tariffs on 75 BILLION DOLLARS of United States product (politically motivated!). Starting on October 1st, the 250 BILLION DOLLARS of goods and products from China, currently being taxed at 25%, will be taxed at 30%. Additionally, the remaining 300 BILLION DOLLARS of goods and products from China, that was being taxed from September 1st at 10%, will now be taxed at 15%. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

INCOMING CABINET CONCLUDES DAY 1 OF PRESIDENTIAL RETREAT

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday presided over the opening day of a Presidential Retreat for Ministers-designate and senior Government officials.

The Retreat follows the screening and confirmation of the Ministers-designate by the National Assembly, and holds ahead of their swearing-in by the President on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at the State House.

In the first technical presentation of the Retreat, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo delivered an overview of the work of the Policies, Programmes and Projects Audit Committee (PPPAC), established by President Buhari in March 2019 and chaired by the Vice President, with a mandate to review the performance in the first term and outline a Roadmap for the new Administration.

This was followed by presentations on National Security, Economic Development and Anti-Corruption Agenda, after which participants engaged in eleven Breakout sessions to deliberate on issues across the priority policy areas of the Administration.

These sessions covered Security; Macroeconomic Stability; Agriculture and Food Security; Energy Security in petroleum products and electricity; Transportation and Critical Infrastructure; Industrialisation and SME Development; Human Capital Development; Social Inclusion; Anti-Corruption; and Housing Financing and Consumer Credit.

Declaring the Retreat open, President Buhari charged the incoming Ministers to ensure that all hands were on deck to realise the Administration’s vision of laying the grounds for the lifting of 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years.

The President also asked them to take seriously their responsibility to develop and implement policies, programmes and projects, and harped on the importance of working as a team and communicating amongst themselves and with the Nigerian people.

The two-day Presidential Retreat ends on Tuesday.

Politics / Take It Back Movement Members Visit Defiant Sowore In DSS Detention (photo) by domesifa(m): 1:03am On Aug 06, 2019
Press Release:

UNBOWED AND UNBROKEN: TAKE IT BACK MEMBERS VISIT DEFIANT SOWORE IN DSS DETENTION

At 6pm today (yesterday), 5th August, 2019, members of the Take it Back Movement were allowed to visit with our convener, Omoyele Sowore, for the first time since his armed abduction in the early hours last Saturday, the 3rd of August.

The visitors met him in high spirits, unmoved by the events of the last few days. The officers allowed the guests to present him with food as Sowore had refused all meals since his capture. We are also happy to confirm that Take it Back members will be allowed to bring him food daily as per his wishes.

The freedom fighter was quick to ask about Movement and Party faithfuls as he is aware that there will be a lot of worry about his wellbeing, and would like to assure everyone that he is being treated well and is in very good health.

He is pleased that the peaceful #RevolutionNow protests he called Nigerians to stand for went ahead, and has expressed his dismay at knowledge of the sheer number of innocent Nigerians being arrested for exercising their civil rights. He is greatly concerned about the wellbeing of all those arrested and /or affected by today’s heavy handed police action, and joins in demanding for their immediate release.

Indeed, the silver lining in today’s unrest lies in the knowledge that the truly, you cannot stop an idea whose time has come.

The Take it Back Movement will continue to agitate for his release as well as that of every single comrade whose voice this oppressive regime has tried to silence.

This visit was a small win; but we will not rest until we are free and free indeed.

Nairaland / General / Youths Shut Down "NEPA" Office Over Extortion by domesifa(m): 1:04pm On Aug 05, 2019
Oro Youths Shut Down PHED Office

Youths of Oro Nation in Akwa Ibom State have shut down the Power Holding Company of Nigeria in Oron over what they call "epileptic power supply" and "estimated billing".

They shut down the office during a peaceful protest today as they locked out staffers of the company, asking them to go to their homes and never to return.

Leading the protest, the President, Oron Union Youth Wing, Comrade Chris Ante condemned the maltreatment meted on the Oro people by the company. He stated that leaders of the nation have engaged in series of dialogues to resolve the issue without a headway.

He explained that after trying all modalities without their positive responses, the youths of Oro are determined to stop the exploitative tendencies of the company by stopping them from working.

"We've had several round table discussions with the management of PHED. They asked us to give them three months so they can fix the light. But we regret it because everything has become worst.

"They kept exploiting us with estimated billing. We are tired of their extortion. We are ready to stay in darkness. We will look for alternative ways of generating electricity for ourselves.

"The management of PHED should relocate their staff from Oron. We no more want their business to operate here. We are saying good bye to NEPA and PHED and there is no going back", he said.

As at the time of fielding this report, the Branch Manager of the company, Mr Stephen Mbat was reportedly absent from office as workers were seen parking their bags and working tools to leave for their respective homes.
