To add to what I earlier wrote, even in Church weddings, the clergy officiating the marriage will first ask '' who gives this woman's hand away in marriage '' , a statement that is asking for the bride's father or elder relation . The clergy will then demand from the Bride's father if the groom has fulfilled all traditional rites.

Court marriages will not proceed if there is no one from the bride's side (preferably a male senior relation) present. A similar question will be asked to the bride's father or elder relation if all traditional rites have been settled.

At the core of church or civil marriage ceremonies, the fulfilment of traditional ceremonies are what determines if the ceremony must proceed. Without it, the ceremony will not go on.

In same civil court marriages, a 30 day notice must be published notifying the public of the planned ceremony .

So in a nutshell, when it comes to marriage rites in the south, fulfilment of traditional rites are the number 1 criteria before any marriage ceremony be it a church wedding or that in a civil court will proceed.

It depends.

If you marry in a church , you are bound to a monogamous union and a certificate of marriage is issued by the state. Anyone who has a church issued certificate of marriage can not enter into another marriage as this will be considered as bigamy.

Even at that , certain certificates of marriages like that issued by the Catholic church forbid divorces unless adultery is established.

Among Muslims and Traditionalists, Notification of Marriage is issued by Local Government Authority. This is more of a notice to the general public that the couple are married so as to warn other men of soliciting for the woman's hand. Notification of Marriage can be issued as many times as a man can marry and it is the same thing people who undergo traditional weddings also obtain to ratify the marriage before the public .

So there are laws that accommodate for every type of marriage rites.

Ohaneze should institute and originating summon to determine if people can associate based on ethnicity and chose their leader in that ethnicity.

So the judgement should affect, igbo , yoruba or hausa in a place outside their home .

FYI, Edo State Traditional body - a state institution, were not the one that instituted the case as they do not need a court of law to carry out their regulatory functions. Rather it was Ohaneze that dragged the Edo state to court for barring Ohaneze in installing Eze Ndigbo stools across Edo State. A similar suit was filed in a Lagos state High Court by both Ohaneze and the Eze Ndigbo of Ajao estate challenging Lagos state Chieftaincy Board declaring his stool as illegal.

Igboho was released barely 5 months into Tinubu's administration. At the time, it was reported that the likes of Soyinka intervened to secure his release but we now know it was the voice of Esau but the hand of Jacob. Both Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu are wanted sessionists in Nigeria but only one remains incarcerated.

Igboho was never arrested by the Nigerian govt.

He fled to Benin and was briefly detained then arraigned in court for entering their country illegally. He was fined and deported to Germany which Igboho is a citizen of.
