I spent a great part of my early life in Lagos and got used to the hustle and bustle of life in Lagos. Fast forward to 1998 and I had to go to school in Jos. First few months and I was always angry at the slow pace of life especially with their transporters who would always stop once a passenger says Akwei. I left Jos after university a reformed man and have refused to go back to Lagos (even when work opportunities have presented openings for movement).

Lagos is a “mad” place and shortens peoples life’s (but they don’t know it). Life is not meant to rushing from one place to another every time. I live in a city where I close from work and can be home in 10 minutes without traffic and cannot imagine trading it for 10 minutes inside traffic everyday. Lagosians are wonderful people but life is saner in some other climes. So for those that cannot leave Lagos, I wish you stay out of Lagos for like 2 years and then you will realize that life is meant to lived in peace and not in traffic.

When I started this thread, I did so to share my own experience, motivate others and assist some on steps to take. The responses that greeted my post were full of insults and hate. I don't owe anyone anything. Therefore, I changed my mind. I'm not contacting anyone. You all can continue your hate in Nigeria

Despite the negative criticisms, I seriously believe that you inspired a lot of people that read your story. You have done your part by putting out your story, let those that believe you continue; also let the skeptics continue. We have a lot of ignorant people in this country and because they don’t believe they are ignorant, they refuse to learn. My only take is continue to encourage and help as many people that genuinely seek your help. Don’t let that actions of an ignorant few change the narrative. My only prayer is that God supports whatever decisions people take and make life better for everyone. A better life is a common denominator worldwide.

This your experience reminded me of a similar experience of a fellow Corper had during our NYSC days in Maiduguri. Topic was religion and went ahead and overboard to talk about religious tolerance in an Islamic school. He spoke about tolerance that will make a Muslim visit a church and vice versa. He had to run from that school with his life alone just for mentioning the word church.

There are still a lot of taboo topics in the north. Be careful wherever you. If you will heed my advice , look for another school and end your time with the present school. You are already marked and any small religious tension will prove it to you.

The first time I became aware of me falling sick was in 2007. I was 26 at the time. Since then it has been a myriad of medical troubles.

It has been cycles of malaria, bacterial infections, disc problems and headache. Every night, I take drugs before I could be able to sleep. I always have antimalarials, antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants handy. If malaria symptoms occur, I would take antimalarials and there would be improvement within minutes. And would then complete the dosage in 3 days. By fourth day, symptoms of bacteria infection would occur; I would take ciprofloxacin and get relieved within minutes. Once I complete the dosage, headache would strike, and once aspirin is taken, I get well. But I would keep repeating aspirin every night until gastric ulceration sets in. I would then buy omeprasole and cimetidine to treat ulcer. While ulcer treatment is ongoing, malaria would strike again, and I would take antimalarials. If antimalarials don't work, I would know that the symptoms are bacterial and take antibiotic. If there is no relief, I would combine antimalarials and antibiotic and there would be a relief. It has been like this since 2007. I don't go to hospital again because I have grown to know these symptoms and what doctors would prescribe.

For the past 2 weeks, I have been battling 'herniated disc' problem in my lower back. It started the day I bent down suddenly and I heard a snapping sound at my back bone. I started using norflex, calcium supplement and diclofenac. I feel mild relief because I can't stop my daily hustle to rest while the disc heals. If I dont work in a day, I won't eat or pay bills.

Note that I undergo HIV test almost weekly.

How do the poor tackle medical problems in this hellhole of a country?

Bro, sorry for your situation but I think you need to undergo an endoscopy especially when you have that ulcer. My younger bro had same issues you described. We kept treating malaria and bacteria infection to no wellness. It was in the heat of the disease we had him examined thru endoscopy only to find out he was actively bleeding in the intestine . He was hospitalized for four days without eating to allow the wounds heal. That was how we got to treat him. Today he understands how to treat himself. Once he notices the symptoms, he goes for a day or two taking just fluids and pap (akamu) while taking his drugs. Please do the endoscopy to understand what's going on with your ulcer. All the symptoms you listed so, ulcer can cause all of them. Kpele

Please try and investigate if the offer is real and also try and know the location. Bro please don't mislead people to think that their extinguishers are bad or empty. In so far as the gauge is working well there is every reason to believe that your extinguishers are OK.

The problem here is lack of knowledge on how to use these extinguishers. From common knowledge, most of the extinguishers used by Nigerians in their cars is the DCP type which requires that when you pull the pin, u allow it some time for the gas in the cylinder to activate the powder inside. What most people do is to immediately begin to start using the extinguisher and in most cases, you end up just wasting the gas instead of using it to activate the powder inside. So please learn how to use the extinguisher right.

First pull the pin and give it about a minute or so for the gas to activate the powder, after which it can be used very well. In the alternatice, get the CO2 type that does not require this wait. But also understand that the Co2 type does not smother fires like the DCP type.
