Seun: Any evidence for this? It would surprise me if the FRC chairman was truly lying against the churches in a public interview, as you're implying. He lied. Some of these people just follow piblic gossip from sites like this your Nairaland. The tax authorities are all over the place. They even ensure that church staff pay tax, talkless of church owned companies. Some CE churches even received court summons but that has since been taken care of. So even church staff of CE pay tax. Funny enough I know of a CE church that argued that thier staff are working for God as volounteers but these tax guys wouldnt back down, especially after seeing the correct staff-owned cars parked in the parking lot. |

Seun: The solution is for the churches to incorporate the schools as independent companies. Listen, there are no schools or businesses of the church that aren't taxed. Do your research. |

YouthsPC0: Systematic Stripping Of The Church Under Buhari
By Favour Afolabi
As you go to church this morning, and as a CHRISTIAN, do meditate on my next line of thoughts.
It was the CHRISTIANS that largely produced this new government with ‘their body language’ and now ‘The Most Senior CHRISTIAN LEADERS’ in Nigeria [including Pastor Tunde Bakare, who carried the placards around the nation for the emergence of this new government] are being asked, via an OBNOXIOUS Law that was inserted through the backdoor into the Nigerian Constitution to STEP DOWN from leading the brethren in their churches in Nigeria!
When you ask Pastor Adeboye, Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, Pastor Kumuyi, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastors Adefarasin, the elder and the younger ones, Bishop Okonkwo, Pastor Ashimolowo, Pastor Adeyemi, etc – all who have led their ministries for ‘the stipulated 20 years’ from leading their churches, the obvious question is “What is left of the leadership of the church in Nigeria?”
When you enact a law that says “a church leader cannot hand over the leadership of his ministry to a family member’, you ask yourself – so what becomes of how so many of such examples occurred in the Bible? And what becomes of the story of the Hagins? And many others?
The elitists Christians in Nigeria have always applauded as the church is stripped in Nigeria – they were happy when ‘Christian businessmen were being stripped of the leadership of the banking industry’ – they didn’t mind as scores of churches were being burnt and hundreds of Christians killed in the aftermath of the 2011 elections pogrom; they have been silent as another round hundreds of Christians are being killed in Northern Nigeria; they ask critical questions of why a governor listened to security reports to remove students from class in the largely non-Christian environs but rejected such advice by keeping the largely christian community Chibok in their classes leading to the abduction of the Chibok Girls – the elites in the Nigerian church movement are very good at speaking ‘very big English’ – they are always super intellectuals on all subjects but obviously ‘lack critical wisdom of the place of the church in Nation States.’
They love to quote examples of how things are done around the world BUT when it comes to standing up for the CHURCH in Nigeria, they soon become quiet and when they are loud begin to even justify such atrocities against the church in Nigeria.
It is very important to ask the question – “where were all the hashtags as this ere being passed in Nigeria?” No, our Christian brethren were still very busy, chasing on Twitter “the missing Billions” – the monies that would never be transferred to their bank accounts when recovered – for which they will get no contracts awarded to them. Of course, it is also these Christians that major “on the opulence of Pastors” – that seems to be their one goal in life – to making sure their Pastors become paupers – what a life ambition to have as a Christian?
Of course, Politicians, in Nigeria, have always “believed that the CHURCH was growing with too much influence” – they have always been afraid of the CROWDS we pull together, for free, which they, have ‘to pay stolen monies to get’; they have always been afraid of our Prosperity, which, they see, we get without toil, as they do; and they have always wondered how they can ‘pocket’ the church; and our brethren have stood by, applauding them as they do such things because they are the ones that provide the online materials for the ridiculing of the Church in Nigeria – well, to these ones, I say, it is time for you to brace up for the leadership of the Church in Nigeria – you have very big shoes to fill so you had better begin ‘to fast and pray’, away from your ‘DSTV Sessions.’
To the larger Christians in Nigeria, I say “Congratulations!”
I thank the Holy Spirit for always being my WITNESS on these matters – HE knows that I have never found myself on the side of such display of cheap populism in Nigeria.

forap: Tell me just one system that is working as it should in this whole country that is 'standing' At least you recognize that we have systems. As for 'working', its you and I. Dont shift blame to the church. If the church is doing well, the world should learn from it and not persecute it. Because if you provoke God to anger, there will be no country, talkless of systems. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Adeboye Steps Down, Oyedepo, Olukoya, Kumuyi, Others To Follow by donnie(m): 11:38pm On Jan 08, 2017 |
forap: From Romans 13:1-7, an instance of how that applies is this: if government says a Church should not erect building in a country, a state, or a region without permit, then the church must abide by that. Like giving unto Caesar.... If the 'church' hasn't lost its power like of 'old', then government wouldn't be dictating to a 'church' how it should be run. Look through the old testament, it was the real men of God that told kings (even heathen kings)how things should be done. 'Men of God' of nowadays, they've lost that touch. Nigeria has been in problem for years, no solution from the 'church'. In the bible, solution always came from the Church. Even US, their breakthrough came from the Church. No solution from the church? With all what we have been through as a country we are still standing .... and you think its luck?? If God should open your eyes to see evils and calamities that have been averted because of the saints in this country, you will be grateful. |

deb: You are right because Pastors are not human beings and are never affected by the economic situation of the country. Infact they are gods so why should they comment about National activities or even want to participate in politics. Afterall, they and their church members don't belong to the earth so are not affected by anything on earth.

Who is he to address the nation, is he president or the vice? we know he is looking ministral appointment. he should lobby for it not through the back door. mack111: And you can't tell me?
Maybe you can answer this... Which of the pastors you mentioned earlier was as rich as they are now before they established their Churches business centres. Can you compare the wealth of Abraham before his call to his wealth after he obeyed God's call? mack111: Irrespective of their independency from the church's financial coffers (which I do not believe), it's not enough to label them as an icon. When the actual thievery has been masterminded long before now. That's only in your depraved mind. mack111: What of the Offerings paid in foreign currencies from their branches worldwide? You also mean these guys don't touch it. You must be joking Mr. They don't. Money is put into the spread of the gospel. There are even stricter regulations in some of these countries. |

EVarn: It is of little consequence what you think of me,I dont care about what name the pastor bears, the point I'm trying to make remains quite valid, our churches need to be more responsible,I appreciate that the doctrine by which many churches operate helps us live a little more righteously, but that is simply not enough. I understand your point and fact that you mean well (i'm assuming that you are Christian). However, in these last days, the church needs to be wise even as they watch and pray because Satan is not sleeping. He will do anything to stop the spread of the gospel. Many christians have in their attempt to be fair or politically correct, taken or supported actions against God. |

mack111: I find it disturbing how you addressed other pastors as local. Except it's just an expression. Which ever way, a pastor is a pastor. You make it seem like they are irrelevant.
They stopped receiving salaries a long time ago you stated. This means at some point, they were under the church's payroll. Perhaps they used the salary to set up businesses for themselves, I don't care to know. Which ever way also, it's still the church's money. Paid or donated by the members.
And how the hell did you know they stopped receiving salary from the church? Read your bible, you will understand how the Lord takes care of His servants. |

solaugo1: However, it is yet to demonstrate the audacity and courage required to address the foundations of the Nigerian problem. A critical factor that will determine the success or failure of the government and its plans. That factor is the restructuring of our nation. The inquisitive may ask: “Why must we restructure?” We must restructure to correct the flaws in our federal system.
Our founding fathers agreed that Nigeria would be “a truly federal state with limited & specific powers allocated to the federal government. This agreement was the social contract upon which the Nigerian state was formed. This social contract was broken on May 24, 1966 through the Unification Decree by Gen. J.T.U. Aguiyi-Ironsi’s administration.
Today, we have 36 Ministries and 36 Commissioners for Education which, consume a huge chunk of the limited education budget. Imagine how much we could save with six efficient and effective ministries in education and other relevant socioeconomic sectors. These 36 states should, become districts headed by Mayors within the framework of 6 geopolitical zones.
I am inclined to a zonally structured governance system... Let the Nigerian people decide. For us at the Latter Rain Assembly, we have accepted responsibility for our nation and that is why we do what we do. As watchmen over our nation, we are propelled by our God-given vision of the New Nigeria, a nation on a journey to oneness and greatness. We seek Nigeria’s transition from 36 states to 6 geopolitical zones that will become harbingers of a united nation.
It is time to build a well-ordered nation with strong institutions dispensing justice. It is time to arise with patriotic zeal to build a great nation such that. May 2017 be the year we look into the future with the eyes of faith and take steps to accomplish all that we know is possible.
"Thank you for listening; God bless you, and God bless Nigeria."

EVarn: Indeed, that is why local parish pastors who do all the work are paid peanuts despite the billions of naira that are accrued into the coffers of these big churches every sunday, that is why the churches build big universities and charge fees that most of their common members cant afford. Yes indeed,I can see how "financially disciplined" and benevolent they are. So,if the government is corrupt, does that mean the church should go rogue too? You are only re-echoing the lies and misinformation from tabloids. Is it compulsory to be a pastor? Any local pastor or member that is not satisfied can leave. Church leaders like Pastors Adeboye, Oyakhilome or Oyedepo are themselves, men of faith who live sacrificially so dont be deceived. They are big-time givers and that's what they live by- their giving. While local Pastors receive salaries, men like Oyakhilome and Oyedepo I know have since stopped receiving salaries from the church. No payment from Rhapsody or any book sold. I know this will confuse you. Yes, it is supposed to, because the Chrisrian life of faith is spiritual and you are carnal. |
