Education / Nobody Is An Illiterate by Donregend(m): 4:44pm On Mar 26
Nobody is an Illiterate on this planet Earth because we have area of specialization despite we were colonial by British and we believe that only those that goes to school are literates NO, a professor is an illiterate when it's come to fisheries and other area that's not his Field

Fisherman in the rural is literate in their various skills fishing, Farming, fingerling raising, poultry breeding, Hunting etc

When most people refer illiterate to someone that cannot read or write and it's wrong because the people that cannot read and write have sign language which the used it in the various area to achieve their aimed

Illiterate is a someone's that doesn't have any skills which I can boldly say that most graduate in Nigeria are illiterate Because they only acquired the paper without the background aspect of the field

In Nigeria let's compared someone that study Mechanical Engineering with someone that went for Welding training you will see that the trainer will beat the graduate in practical aspect of it

Deviant behavior is one the factor's that push most of person from achieving academic goals though focal element also affect those with mental challenge

DR ABASIONO OKON SHED TEARS AS HE VISIT UMO'S FAMILY

Performed foundation laying for a two bedroom flat...

Paid homage to the Clan Head of Ediene...

The once thatched roofed structure inhabitant of Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya, Ikono L. G. Area whose picture trended on social media on 15 June, 2020, Mr. Umo Udo, and now to be owner of a two bed room flat; expressed his gratefulness to God for using Dr. Abasiono Okon to salvage him in his elephant in the room sorry state, where even his family members turned blind eyes on him. The father of seven couldn't controlled his joy as he was left dumfounded in the kind gesture done him by Dr. Abasiono Okon, prayed for more of God's grace to him.

Speaking, the Village Head of the host community, Etteidung Ineme jnr. among others, appraised Dr. Abasiono Okon for extending his humanitarian services to Ikot Akpa Edok Ndiya in solely funding a project of building a home for Umo Udo family even as he expressed his displeasure towards capacitated sons of the land who have more than enough, yet couldn't assist even when such calls was placed on them. He stopped by beseeching heavens to rain blessings on Dr. Abasiono Okon and his aspirations in life.

Dr. Abasiono Okon while speaking, couldn't control his emotions having seen the thatched structure put up by Umo Udo to accommodate his family in the bush, poured his heart out in tears, he wept even as he thanked God for using him to help in the capacity of erecting a structure for Umo's family as he performed foundation laying on the ongoing two bed room flat and donated a start up grant for Umo Udo to venture into business which will aid the family. He denoted that his kind gesture is unconnected to any political aspiration, as he described his benevolence to people as purpose oriented even as he linked everything to God who has been his helper and God for more grace to do more in the land through his ABASIONO SURE FOUNDATION.

The act demonstrated by the CEO of Abaringo Nig. Ltd., Dr. Abasiono Okon reminded me of the great Mahatma Gandhi in one of his famous quote; "I shall pass through this world but once, any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again". It is saddened that thousands of people in Umo Udo's condition are still out there in anguish and tears, praying for helpers all day. It's quite worrisome how unfair the society is!

Thereafter, Dr. Abasiono Okon paid homage to His Eminence, Ettebom (Dr.) Okuku Udo Ben Akpan, the just elected Clan Head of Ediene Clan in Ikono L. G. Area, donated a royal chair to the Ettebom of Ediene Clan. In a highly welcomed state, Ettebom (Dr) Okuku Udo Ben Akpan expressed his joy on the first ever visit of Dr. Abasiono Okon to his palace noting the visit as timely as he appreciated the gift in the royal chair. He thanked him (Dr. Abasiono Okon) even as he blessed him and prayed for his upliftment.

Culture / Of Worship, Sacrifice And The Annang Ancestral Importance In Prayers by Donregend(m): 9:12pm On Aug 19, 2019
OF WORSHIP, SACRIFICE AND THE ANNANG ANCESTRAL IMPORTANCE IN PRAYERS.

Undoubtedly, the religious experience of the Annang people is both unique and interesting to note. Traditionally, the Annang people have a belief in the existence of a Supreme Being (Awasi Ibom) and other spiritual beings that assist the Awasi Ibom which can never be numbered exactly as they are. However, the spirit of the ancestors who are intermediaries between the living and the Awasi Ibom is the most closest to the Supreme Being.

In Annang traditional society, the dead (Agwo mkpa) are believed to continue in some kind of existence in the underworld invisible to the humans. The ancestors act as the spiritual custodians of the family and must be placated periodically to ensure their protection. In African Traditional Religion (ATR), concerning the relationship of the living to the dead as pointed above, two ideas may be considered: worship of the ancestors and their veneration.

In worship, such elements as prayers, sacrifices and offerings are generally considered. Meanwhile, praises, requests, demands, queries, pleas, may be considered as prayers. While a sacrifice may be a complete or partial immolation, which their victims may be either human beings, goats, fowls, tortoises, etc. In human sacrifices, the unfortunate victim was always buried with the corpse or slaughtered during the second burial (igwuongo agwo) at the iso nwommo.

At the iso nwommo, meat is often cooked for a ritual koinonia between the worshippers and the recipient ancestors. But, in some cases, this meat may be consumed only by the recipient spirits. Also, in other cases, the blood (usually of a goat) spillage may be partial. The ear, toe, or tail of the sacrificial victim may be cut to spill the blood and later left to wander about freely.

Apart from prayers and sacrifices, there is another most important element in worship among the Annang people. This is offering, be it money, food, nuts, shells, etc. These however, are often carried in broken calabash, torn pieces of basket, or large leaves, and offered to the spirits of the dead (usually ukpakka ekpo) whose lives were useless. Stephen Ezeanya poignantly distinguished this worship from the pure theological concept of worship which is "the acknowledgement of God's unique excellence and His total dominion over all nations, expressed by adoration, reverence and submission to Him..." (Ife Journal of Religion, Vol.1, 1980:38).

Critically, the ATR while accepting the ultimateness of the Supreme Being, regards the ancestors as the direct recipients of acts and worship. Here, we can say that ancestors are worshipped. Nevertheless, apart from worship, veneration is regarding the noble life led by the ancestors while alive. The difference between worship and veneration is in the depth of religiosity we find in worship. But, veneration and worship can hardly be separated. By these two acts, the community inhabitants reminds themselves of the lives of their ancestors which could make their own lives sublime.

In worship and veneration, the role of ekpo is very prominent. Ekpo onyonyo's symbolism has gone beyond a mere celebration in Annang traditional society, as they are the initiators of good governance in which one cannot question their government. Ekpo is basically to provide security to the society, to the people and to ensure that good life is available to all. Actually, the principal male cult among the Annang ethnic nationality is that of the ancestral spirit, ekpo. However, during an annual ceremonial cycle, and at the funeral ceremonies of deceased members, masked performers impersonate the ancestral spirits temporarily returned to the land of the living. Interesting, many Annang villages have Anwa Ekpo (masquerade square) and almost all men are initiates.

In Annang, there ate classes in the spirit world: Nkuku Ekpo (the great, noble and the venerable; the ordinary Ekpo; and the Ukpakka Ekpo (the evil, homeless and roaming spirits). The ancestors, nkuku ekpo mediates between the living and the spirit world to help the living to skip ukpakka ekpo to the class of the nkuku ekpo at death. In Annang, the social significance of ancestor worship is vested in the hands of akama iso ekpo (the keeper of iso ekpo). The ancestors is the ones who give them this order which they must obey like in cases of marital infidelity. Of all the divinities, one most dreaded among among the people is the Ekpo Nka'gwo whose duty is to check and punish infidelity in the marriage institution.

At the iso ekpo shrine where this fine is collected for the ancestors, the shrine keeper enjoins housewives, young men and women to keep to the injunctions of the ancestors to avoid undesirable consequences. Though it may seem superstitious, this act of worshipping and venerating the ancestors ensure a total confidence in the daily pursuits and businesses. Also, in marriage, when a man is ripe for the institution and upon finding a wife, performs the rite of ijiok (cutting the neck of a goat and offering it to dead parent in-law. Note that this ceremony is not for the living in-laws. On the part of the bride, she must offer unen mmong eba eka'jen. The ijiok is done at the iso Obot of the late parent in-law. But if it is no more, a fresh one is made of okoro plant.

This passage rite is for the late parent in-law who is now in the great beyond, and who now have a better knowledge of the spirit world, to intervene for the fertility of the bride and groom. In all, ekpo is a spirit which is the spirit of the ancestors. These ancestors are believed to be very close to God, because Annang religion believes in God.

Politics / Etim Ekpo Ika State House Of Assembly Barr. Chris Okori by Donregend(m): 12:05pm On Aug 27, 2018
2019: BARR. CHRIS OKORIE; A MAN SO LOVED
With the 2019 general elections around the corner, politicians intending to run for one position or another have started consulting with their constituents and stakeholders in a bid to get their nods, and conviction to go represent them.
Some politicians have changed political party in a bid to further their aspiration while others are still calculating their next move but one man has remain resolute and steadfast in his aspiration to represent his people in the State House of Assembly and that is Barr. Chris Okorie.
The aspiration of Barr. Chris Okorie a one time Local Government Chairman of Etim Ekpo, a man well loved by his people because of his philanthropic gesture of recent has generated so much attention.
Normally, his aspiration would have been the easiest at least at his party level being that until the defection of the current Member Representing Etim Ekpo/Ika in the AKHA, Rt.Hon. Gabriel Toby into the All Progressives Congress, he was arguably the most popular candidate in his party and was set to clinch the party's ticket.
But being a fighter that he is and a man who is known for contesting elections to the end, Barr. Okorie is set to give any candidate a run for his money knowing fully well that he has the people by his side and he believes that people are all that matters, afterall the days he trusted in Godfathers, he was left disappointed.
Okorie from all indication is verifiaby the most popular and preferred candidate in the forth coming election. Etim Ekpo/Ika youths and majority of his party members are with him for he was by the party when no one in the State believed in the party, who would have thought that things will turn out this way? It's time for the party to reward loyalty.
His growing popularity could be judged from the acceptance and endorsement he has received from the youths, artisans, women, students, the political class, the social media community and indeed a wide spectrum of Etim Ekpo and Ika people, which is unprecedented in the annals of the political history of the constituency. He is a man so much loved by the people.
Today, he is like a movement traversing the entire polity called Etim Ekpo/Ika State constituency. Like in every political tussle, there is bound to be opposition; some are contenders, political jobbers, while some others claim on grounds of equity and good conscience but as we speak everything political and non political favours Barr. Okorie.
A lot of people people have questioned his aspiration based on legislative experience compare to other aspirants. This excuse of inexperience is laughable being that at every point in life there must be a first time. The supposed experienced ones at a point were first timers, one also begin to wonder the activities in the State house of Assembly that will be so strange to a lawyer with years of experience who has been exercising over sight functions even without being in government.
As it concerns over sight functions, this will be like a hobby to Obong Okorie as he is a born giver. I know the number of people that were building their own house when Obong Okorie was building his own at Akpan Eno Street at Abak LGA(sic).
He has given employment to a lot, bought motorcycles to a lot, sent a lot of people on training even when he isn't in government. Think of any over sight functions of a state house member, Obong Okorie has performed it all even when he is not in government. Give him a chance in 2019 and he will perform wonders.
Obong Okorie is humility personified, has listening ear, not tired of attending to people's needs irrespective of political linings, zone or position in the society.
He is a strong believer in empowering people, this is one man that treasures relationship irrespective of class and political affiliations. His sense of reasoning, humor, candour, resilience, focused and tenacity of purpose is second to none.
Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency want a man who is never tired of empowering people, a man that will bring government to the people, a grassroot man who feels the pain of the people, a man that lives with them, a man who doesn't discriminate.
As the race for his party's ticket heat up, he is not deterred, not down-spirited and not disturbed about whatever they bring his way as he is a fighter surrounded by people who wishes him well. Power belongs to God and he gives it to whoever He pleases and God will be fair to him.
He has paid his dues in the politics of the State and his followership defies party affiliation, as many are already queuing behind him. The sacrifices he has made for humanity will definitely speak for him.
With Barr. Okorie, Etim Ekpo will enjoy the peace they enjoy when he was the Local Chairman and Ika Local Government will enjoy the development he brought to the Etim Ekpo has their their Chairman.
He is an educationist, a philanthropist and a man well loved by his people

Politics / Akwa Ibom State Governor Scorecard by Donregend(m): 11:07am On Aug 27, 2018
*GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL'S SCORECARD*

What are the verifiable truths about Udom Emmanuel's nine industries for which he is substituting bald face lies?
1. *Armoured Vehicle Assembly Plant in Itam*
This has been DOA, dead on arrival. Misguided, misconceived, it has not gone beyond groundbreaking.
2. *LED Lighting Factory in Itam*
Equally misguided and misconceived. Equally *DOA* on groundbreaking.
3. *Peacock Paints*
Taking late Dr Clement Isong's achievement in vain, the purported revival of this iconic industry by Udom Emmanuel has been an excuse to plunder public funds. The so-called revival has not matched either in volume or range of output, what was achieved *over *30 years* ago. Even at that, the products are not in the market where even if it were, it would be competing, unfavourably we should add, with the output of over 300 local producers. A whole state government should do better but under Udom, it hasn't.
4. *Toothpicks and Pencils Factory*
The less said about this disgraceful effort the better.
Or perhaps more should be said to expose the abysmal incompetence of Udom Emmanuel.
Fraudulently conceived and poorly executed, this factory is typical of Udom's so-called industrial development programme.
Inappropriate equipment was ordered without a thought to where it would be housed. On arrival, a warehouse was hurriedly borrowed without a proper lease agreement. The factory was commissioned and allegedly put into use only to be shut within a few months. Some 24 months later, the government is desultorily trying to put up a building for it in Itam. No prize for guessing: a failed project with no products in the market.
5. *Syringe Factory*
A mom and pop operation; probably a money laundering scheme, by Udom Emmanuel's Turkish business partners.
For all the noise, this is a plastics company, pure and simple. Imported moulds are used to blow plastic resins for the plastic parts of the syringe. The hypodermic needles are imported and packaged for sale at higher than import prices. Even the packaging is brought in from out of state. *Zero local content,* *limited employment generation*
It is not doing well and may soon pack up shop.
6. *Electricity Meter Factory*
Nothing to do with Udom Emmanuel. Godswill Akpabio set the stage for this investment by buying into Port Harcourt Distribution Company, during the privatisation of DISCOs.
Owned by the operators of PHDC, the electricity distributors, this is an assembly operation, pure and simple. Not one component is manufactured in Nigeria.
This is precisely the sort of industries we had before under our import substituting industrial programme in the 60s, 70s and 80s, that failed woefully.
No self respecting leader should be advertising this sort of operation as an achievement. But that is Udom Emmanuel for you. *Clueless*
7. *Tomato Industry*
A farm or industry, nobody can say. If a farm, it will be a high cost one, given the kind of sums we have heard bandied about as the cost of the imported green houses, imported equipment and imported experts
If the products are in the market, only Udom's cook is using them.
As for industrial processing, we'll believe that when we see them in operation. We can hazard the view now that the *present green house operation will not produce enough to feed an economic-sized plant*. If in doubt, ask Dangote. As for the much-ballyhooed AKEES, tomatoes business, well, nobody is talking about the millionaires allegedly created by that exercise in public deception, alternative facts or no.
8. *Rice Mill*
A scam, as reported by Dr Dele Sobowale in a widely circulated on-the-spot assessment a few weeks back.
9. *Fertiliser Blending Plant in Abak*
The biggest *alternative fact* of all. And that is saying something.
A packaging operation commissioned and passed off as a blending one. At the cost of $5million in bank guarantee that exposes all of us in Akwa Ibom.
Besides,Udom Emmanuel didn't facilitate that investment, Godswill Akpabio did.
10. *Coconut Oil Processing*
Misplaced, misguided and misconceived.
Nothing exposes the quality of thinking and vision that undergirds Udom Emmanuel's government than this misadventure.
And as if to prove it, the coconut plants have stubbornly refused to grow.
11. *Mexican Cattle Ranch in Uruan*
Another stop in Udom Emmanuel's reenactment of Don Quixote's tilt at windmills mistaken for heathen enemies.
Again, more evidence of thoughtlessness.
Unlike Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom people live in the real world of his nonperformance. They pay the price, a very high price, for living in that world. They need a governor that comes from the world of reality; the reality of poverty and joblessness, a governor who will relief them of these real burdens by building real industries, by creating real conditions for the people to flourish.

Politics / Akpabio Visits Udoedehe And Obong Nsima Ekere by Donregend(m): 10:50am On Aug 27, 2018
I have told the leaders in APC in Akwa Ibom State, I am not coming to lord over them. I am not even interested in leadership. My primary concern is the unity of APC as we approach election. As I come in, I discovered they were camp and factional interest.

In short, within the last fews days, I have had to intervene to get the faction led by 'Charles Taylor' to withdraw the case they instituted against the Hon Ini Okopidi led executive. I have told them I am not contesting any governorship election. I have told the leaders to, in matter of days bring up their structures. I am only contesting the Senatorial Seat. I am coming to add value to the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to come and destroy what was built.

I have heard all sorts of rumours that I intend to bring Victor Antai or another candidate for the governorship position. I do not intend to interfere in how the candidate emerges. I have told Sen. John James Udoedehe and H.E Obong Nsima U. Ekere that whoever emerges winner during the governorship primaries, one of the aspirants will have to be the Campaign Manager for the winner. We have to forge ahead as a united front."

The Blue Ukanafun River. Mystery or mystic?

By:Regent Ufere

We are taught growing up that water is blue, but some rivers are black, brown, emerald blue, green, or even blue-green. So, what gives the Ukanafun river its color?
First, we need to understand what color is. Natural light is actually made up of a number of different colors associated with different wave lengths within the light spectrum.
Think of the multiple colors of light when refracted by a prism. The color we associate with anything is the range of light waves that is reflected back to our eyes by the molecules that comprise the entity. We don’t see the colors of light that are absorbed.
When it comes to pure water, blue light is reflected while other colors of light especially reds, are absorbed.
Factors such as minerals, soil runoff and sediment, and even algae can cause water to vary from its natural color of blue.
The most common cause for water to change color is minerals. When a rock is weathered down over time, the minerals from the rock are dissolved and small pieces are released into the water causing different colors.
Iron, manganese, and calcium carbonate from limestone all common minerals that can cause water to range in color from red and orange to green and blue.
Sediment and soil runoff can also change water’s color – sometimes as a temporary color change after storms and sometimes permanently if the river constantly carries lots of sediment. Erosion from river banks brings soil into the river, changing the color. After heavy storms, many rivers run brown from all the runoff flowing into the river. Clay can cause rivers to be murky brown, or yellow.
Let’s do some scientific analysis of the area and fine the mineral composition for economic purposes. To promote tourism to the area, DON”T associate it with ndem (deity). We know better than that.

Education / Federal Government N23bn Was For ASUU by Donregend(m): 9:12pm On Dec 03, 2017
federal Government N23bn was for ASUU

By: Regent Ufere

NON teaching staff unions in the universities under the umbrella of Joint Action Committee, JAC, have directed all their branches nationwide to resume strike on Monday.

The three unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Non Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions, NASU and National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT.
A letter to the all branch Chairmen with the title, “Directives to immediately resume the suspended strike” was signed by Comrades Samson Chijioke Ugwoke, SSANU, Chris Ani, NASU and Sani Suleiman, NAAT.
The strike according to the unions was necessitated as a result of the inability of the Federal Government to clarify the criteria for the disbursement of the N23 billion released by the government to the university unions which SSANU, NASU and NAAT claimed was meant for the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU while only “pittance” was allocated to the three non teaching staff unions.
According to the letter to the branches, “Please recall our last correspondence to you in which we informed you of the letter written to the Honourable Minister of Education rejecting the allocation made by the office of the Permanent Secretary and signed by the PS himself.
“In the said letter, the Federal Government was given seven (7) days to explain the criteria for the said allocation and do the needful. The deadline has elapsed without any response from the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“In view of the above therefore, you are hereby directed to resume the suspended indefinite strike action as from 12 midnight, Sunday 3rd December, 2017. During this period, the strike shall be total and comprehensive.”
