Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Nigeria’s former military head of state has admonished the people of the Igbo extraction of Nigeria to ensure that Nigerians continue to feel their positive impact.

Deji has been reacting to charges against Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, by the Department of State Services, DSS.

Sowore, who has been in detention for almost 50 days, was charged by the country’s secret police for treason and “insulting” the president.

Deji who wasted no time in condemning the act also spoke about the detention of ex-National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Governors of seven states of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met on Friday in Port Harcourt, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

According to Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant (Electronic Media) to Gov. Nyesom Wike, the meeting was attended by Govs. Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); and Mohammed Mattawale (Zamfara).

After the meeting, Tambuwal explained that the governors were in Rivers to commend Wike “for his sustained projects delivery’’.

He said the governors urged him to continue to deliver quality projects and sustain good governance for the development of Rivers State.

Tambuwal also said that PDP remained strongly united in friendship and brotherhood.

He said: “We are here as brothers and friends to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in the spirit of brotherhood and friendship.

“We are here to encourage and support him for the good governance he has given to the good people of Rivers State.

“The 100 days of the second term of Governor Wike is also why we are here.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Governor Yahaya Bello of purchasing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from registered voters in Kogi State for N5000 each ahead of the November 16 governorship election.

The Musa Wada Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation raised the alarm in a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, Faruk Adejoh-Audu.

According to the PDP campaign organisation, agents of the state government have been traversing villages and communities offering registered voters N5000 in exchange for their PVCs.

Adejoh-Audu stated that the N5000 is being paid to the poor and indigent communities as “loan” in exchange for their PVCs as “collateral”.

“Right now, we are informed the agents have been unleashed across the state particularly in rural areas to offer the said cash to poor and indigent people willing to submit their PVC as collateral for the scam.

“These agents are said to be targeting communities with large voter populations across the state and were sighted in many areas of Kogi East Senatorial District to execute the agenda of disenfranchising as many persons as possible. Reports from the other senatorial districts equally indicate a similar ongoing fraudulent scheme.

“Our findings indicate that this evil con is designed by the outgoing government as one last impetuous chicanery to stop as many people as possible from besieging the polling units on November 16 to massively evict it from the seat of power it has abused and desecrated for close to four years.

“The PVC stolen from the people using this decoy will be given to rogue elements to use in voting or to compromised ad-hoc electoral staff to use in hiking accreditation figures in polling units with the ultimate aim of writing results”, the campaign organisation stated.

Calling on the governor and his All Progressives Congress (APC) administration to play by the rules, the PDP campaign organisation vowed to resist any attempt at manipulating and rigging the upcoming election, using every legitimate means available.

The campaign said it’s regrettable that after almost four years in power, the Bello administration cannot call in any goodwill or favour from the citizens of the state.

“This Campaign organisation hereby demands that the Directorate of State Services(DSS), the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) immediately commence an investigation into this evil plot which is clearly a treasonable crime against the people and the state.

“We hereby call on the good people of Kogi State, the labour unions, religious organisations, market women, youth groups, students, community associations and all lovers of the liberty of our dear state to immediately alarm the masses of the ongoing scam using Five Thousand Naira (N5,000) as decoy to rob them of their right to vote.

“The task of liberating Kogi State from the grip of hunger, lack of development,an unfocused and cluelessness government, thuggery and violence belongs to all. We must all rise to defeat this desperate scam”.

Barely twenty-four hours after an attack on Kukoki village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, bandits have again sacked three more communities in Rafi Local Government Area on Tuesday evening.

The communities ransacked include Rafin-wayam, Rafin-kwakwa, and Gidan Dogo-Gurgu village.

It was learnt that the heavily armed bandits rode motorcycles numbering about 30, carrying three people each, ransacked the three communities and forced them to run to Kagara the headquarters of Rafi Local Government Area.

An eyewitness, Malam Dahiru, said, the bandits encircled them at Rafin Wayam village and took bread and beverages before they left to Pangu-Gari community.

Dahiru, “As of 6:45pm on Tuesday, an exodus of escapees from the three villages numbering hundreds had open four camps in Kagara.

The Niger State Police Commissioner, Adamu Usman, on Wednesday, confirmed the incident, saying, ‘We have an incident like that in that area’.

Usman said, “The police are reviewing the security architecture of communities in the hinterland because it appears they are prone to this type of security breach.”

He assured that the bandits would be apprehended and brought to book soon.

Angry fans of Sierra Leone's national football team took things too far as they stormed the home of captain Umaru Bangura after he missed a decisive penalty.

Umaru Bangura, 31, who plays for FC Zürich in the Swiss Super League failed to convert a stoppage-time spot-kick during Sunday's World Cup qualifier against Liberia.

His penalty miss denied Sierra Leone their chances of getting through to the next stage of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Liberia qualified, winning the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

After the game fans stormed his home and pelted Bangura's property with stones. The windows and doors of his residence in Freetown were left badly damaged.

"[It was] one of the worst days of my life," Bangura told the BBC on Monday while holed-up in his bedroom. "I can't even go outside because I didn't expect this kind of hostility towards me.

"I did my job by stepping up as the captain to take the spot-kick," he added. "I am really disappointed. But at the same time, I wish to say sorry [and] beg for their forgiveness."

Red Cross staff were also attacked after they accused them of whisking away from fans.

According to BBC, four Red Cross volunteers were injured in the unrest. People also threw stones at their marked ambulances, which were later pictured with smashed windows.

Reports have it that a girl identified as Vitória Marchioli, from Barra de São Francisco in Brazil, with a genetic disorder known as Treacher Collins Syndrome which has prevented 40 of her facial bones from developing properly recently celebrated her ninth birthday.

Victoria as a baby, had her eyes, mouth and nose displaced, doctors doubted she would survive her first few hours of life.

The doctors even refused to feed her, told her family to go and make funeral arrangements while they wait for her to die.

However, earlier this month she reached her ninth birthday with care and devotion from her family.

According to her father Ronaldo, 39, he said: ‘Doctors can’t explain how she has lived so long, but they believe it is down to our care and the love we have for her that has kept her alive.

‘We’re hoping to continue fundraising to give our daughter a better quality of life and giving her the best appearance we can.

‘We fight for her so that she can look better and have a better quality of life. We love her and are thankful for having her alive.’

But despite their struggles and her uncertain future, her father and mother Jocilene, 43, say they are grateful.

The Federal Government has appealed to Nigerians not to attack South African companies operating in Nigeria in retaliation for the ongoing xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday September 3rd, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, described as deeply disturbing the reports that some Nigerians, angered by the xenophobic attacks in South Africa, have started attacking South African companies in Nigeria.

He said that targetting South African companies in Nigeria for attack is a classic case of cutting off your nose to spite your face, because the investors in such companies, especially MTN and Shoprite, are Nigerians.

Lai Mohammed said the majority of the workers in the South African companies operating in Nigeria are also Nigerians, meaning that its Nigerian workers who will be hardest hit if such companies are forced to shut down for fear of attacks.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government is already taking decisive measures to put an end to the persistent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

''President Muhammadu Buhari has dispatched a Special Envoy to convey to his South African counterpart, President Cyril Ramaphosa, his concerns and also interact with his South African counterpart on the situation.

''Also, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, acting on the instruction of Mr. President, has summoned the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria to get a brief on the situation; express Nigeria’s displeasure over the treatment of her citizens; and secure assurance of the safety of their lives and property,'' the Minister said.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Asiwaju Rotimi Ajanaku, on Tuesday declared that Nigerians youths will have no other options than to start attacking businesses and companies owned by South Africans in Nigeria, if the attacks of Nigerians in South Africa continue unabated.

Ajanaku, made this declaration via a statement issued on his behalf by his Media Aide, Mr. Debo Adeoye, a copy which was made available to Us in Ibadan.

But, Ajanaku, who is the Asiwaju Odo O’odua, while reacting, insisted that Nigerian youths will be forced to take laws into their hands, by attacking businesses owned by South Africans if the situation is not brought under control.

Ajanaku, while maintaining that South Africa citizens werr making billions of Naira through their businesses in Nigeria, however, warned that Nigerians should not be taking for granted due to their tolerance.

The APC stalwart while demanding sanction against the government and citizens of South Africa to end the persistent gruesome xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in their country, described the attack carried out on Monday against Nigerians living in South Africans as barbaric and uncalled for.

Ajanaku said, “It is very disappointing that in 21st Century, a developed, popular and one of the superpower nations in Africa, South Africa, could allow her citizens to engage in such uncivilized, uncultured and animalistic attacks against immigrants legally residing in her nation.

“If this continue unabated, it is most likely that Nigerian youths take laws into their hands, and start attacking businesses owned by South Africans. We are not ignorance of several millions of dollars that citizen of South Africa are making from Nigeria, through various businesses ranging from electronics, telecommunications, entertainment, beverages, agriculture and others. No one has monopoly of violence, but we are more accommodating and tolerance here and that should not be taking for granted by anyone.

“Whereas, there are several legal ways of deporting illegal immigrants or those found guilty of one crime or the other without hurting or violating their rights, South Africans embarked on senseless and worrisome attacks, unleashed terror on armless and innocent Nigerians doing legitimate business in their country.”

Ajanaku while speaking further asked the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari to act fast “to stop excesses of these burgers, blood thirsty animals that are hidden under xenophobia to perpetuate evils.

“I would not know why Nigerian government is afraid of rolling out the long deserved sanctions against South Africa government and her citizens. These blood thirsty terrorists, armed robbers are just hiding under xenophobia to kill Nigerians, burgled their shops to forcefully carry away property that worth millions of naira.

“The ministry of foreign affairs is by now supposed to have issued travel alert to Nigerians planning to visit South Africa and possibly go-ahead to label SA as a terrorist nation, after all, others did it against us even when it was obvious that no foreigner was involved in several of attacks experienced in Nigeria.

“It is time for the Federal government to react, the government must take a drastic measure now to stop this worrisome attacks to safe lives of other Nigerians living abroad. Every possible sanction must be included in federal government decision to stop other nations from taking Nigeria for granted.

“South African government should stop its camouflaging sympathetic gesture and approach the issue with all sincerity by taking a proactive measure. SA government should as a matter of urgency do whatever it takes to protect the lives and property of Nigerians living in SA.”
