I don't have much time to argue but I think this fact will be important for the discussion, I wasn't saying the law doesn't have a provision for sharia court be for sharia high court has no base in law and no law established sharia high court in Nigeria. I'm saying that Nigerian constitution didn't make provision for that. I think Nigerians should stop abuse themselves over things that doesn't necessary call for such. I'm still going to take you to sections that established all sharia courts in Nigeria Nigeria’s transition from Northern-dominated military rule to a Southern-led civilian regime in 1999 revived fierce debates on what the status of Sharia should be in an independent, secular state. The issue attained even higher importance when Zamfara became the first state to extend Sharia from personal status issues into the domain of criminal justice and to establish Sharia courts with corresponding jurisdiction. After Zamfara showed the way, eleven other Northern states soon followed with similar legislative programmes. Since Section 275 of the federal Constitution allows for the creation of state Sharia Court of Appeals, it can be argued that the Constitution has implicitly reserved discretion to the states to create their own Sharia courts to act as courts of first instance. However, the constitutionality of extending Sharia into the purview of criminal justice remains questionable. It is certainly the case that Section 4 (7) (a) of the federal Constitution allows state National Assemblies to legislate on “any matter not included in the Exclusive Legislative List” that enumerates the issues falling within federal jurisdiction. However when it comes to the application of Sharia, Sections 262 and 277 qualify this relative legislative freedom of both the federal and state National Assemblies to specific issues of personal law. Any expansion in scope would require constitutional amendment, which under section 9 (2) could only be passed with two-thirds of the votes in the federal National Assembly along with the approval of at least two-thirds of all states. Given that the majority of the states are predominantly Christian, a constitutional amendment on the extension of Sharia would be a hard nut to crack under the present amendment procedure. Nevertheless, against the background of recurrent sectarian violence and contention around the issue of Sharia, the unconstitutional status quo has prevailed in a dozen Northern states. It has also been argued that the enforcement of Sharia infringes on the rights and freedoms of Nigerians, including the right to move about freely and to be treated equally in their chosen place of residence. Given that the Constitution envisages the application of Sharia only to Muslims, an emblematic example of such infringement is subjecting non-Muslims to Sharia law in the affected Northern states. For instance, Christians have long been punished for such otherwise lawful activities as consuming alcohol due to the prohibition under Sharia. Although non-Muslim Nigerians in the affected Northern states continue to hold the same citizenship as their counterparts in the other 24 states, in practice they are unable to enjoy their rights and freedoms equally, for instance when women are prohibited from sharing taxis and buses with men. From a more holistic perspective, the adoption of Sharia appears to contradict article 10 that proscribes any State religion. Especially as the Constitution not only declares the secularity of the Nigerian state but in Section 1 (3) also affirms the supremacy of the federal Constitution over “any other law [that] is inconsistent...” with it. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has called the jail conditions of drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman inhumane, while vowing to bring down violence stemming from drug violence. Guzman was on Wednesday sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years by a judge in the United States. A jury found him guilty in February after an 11-week trial. Lopez Obrador said at a conference that sentences like the one for El Chapo - "a sentence for life in a hostile jail, hard, inhumane" - made a life no longer worth living. He did, however, call Guzman out for his murderous ways and drug-fueled life of crime. “It’s something very painful,” said López Obrador, adding that had “many victims in mind." López Obrador told reporters that he hoped Guzman’s harsh sentence would lead to less violence in Mexico. “We think that bit by bit the number of criminal incidents will decline,” he said. “We will continue to create a better society, supported by values, that is not based on accumulating material wealth, money or luxury." Guzman will spend the rest of his life in Colorado’s supermax prison after being convicted of drug-trafficking charges. An Ibadan-based trader, Bushira Salawudeen, has prayed a Mapo Customary Court to plead with her husband, Rafiu, to forgive her and stop the divorce proceedings. Salawudeen, in her short statement before Alhaji Suleiman Apanpa, the President of the court, admitted that that she threatens to attacks her husband with broken bottles during arguments to silence him. “I can’t tell you what usually comes over me. I just know that I do attack Rafiu with broken bottles. “Please, help me beg him, I will not repeat it again,” she begged the court. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rafiu had told the court to put an end to the 23-year-old union between him and his wife on grounds of threat to life, lack of love and nagging attitude. “For over three years now, she has threatened my life. She breaks bottles and threatens to stab me with it. “I can’t allow her into my house again,” he told the court. Corroborating the plaintiff’s submission, Rafiu’s sister prayed the court to dissolve the union without any further waste of time. “My lord, I have spoken to her to drop her arrogance and act of hooliganism, but her heart is made of stone. Delivering his ruling, Justice Apanpa noted that the court does not tolerate any act that could bring about bloodshed. Apanpa dissolved the marriage and awarded custody of two children to Rafi’u and the one to Salawudeen. “Rafiu shall pay N5,000 as the child’s monthly feeding allowance in addition to being responsible for his education and welfare. “Rafiul shall also pay N5,000 to Bushira to enable her mover her property,” theaArbitrator ordered. A woman has been killed after falling from the ninth floor of a block of flats in Russia while having sex – but her partner survived after landing on top of her. The woman, aged 30, was found dead at the base of an apartment block in St Petersburg on the night of July 5 during what neighbours described as a wild party. ambulance Witnesses said they saw a television thrown from the window of the flat, after which the woman and her 29-year-old lover plunged to the ground below. The woman landed head-first on the asphalt and died instantly, local media reported, but the man survived after his fall was broken by her body and nearby bushes. Sex and the woman(Opens in a new browser tab) Witnesses told local media that the partially clothed man then got up and went back to rejoin the party. Police were called, and when they arrived the revellers allegedly threw a mop out of the windows at them. Initial reports suggested the woman had been killed by the falling TV, but images from the scene clearly show her naked from the waist down. After interviewing witnesses, investigators concluded that the couple were having sex on a windowsill when they fell. Two other men were in the flat when the fall happened, but are not thought to have been involved. A murder investigation has been launched. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has summoned the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu and the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in Zamfara State, to appear before it on Thursday. The order followed a subpoena the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, secured from the Justice Mohammed Garba led five-member panel tribunal. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu and Atiku Abubakar The petitioners are challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the February 23 presidential election. They alleged that the total number of votes that the electoral body declared in favour of President Buhari, was at variance with what was contained in a central server that contained results that were electronically transmitted. They claimed that information they independently secured from the server indicated that PDP defeated the APC with about 1.6million votes. However, INEC had since distanced itself from the allegation, even as it denied the existence of a central server through which results were electronically transmitted. Meanwhile, at the resumed proceedings at the tribunal, counsel to the petitioners, Chief Chris Uche, SAN, accused INEC of deliberately frustrating their case. He told the court that both Prof. Yakubu and the Zamfara REC ignored a subpoenaed that was duly served on them to appear with specific documents with respect to the case. In a ruling, Justice Garba noted that records before it indicated that the INEC boss was served with the subpoena on July 15. He held that both Prof. Yakubu and the Zamfara State REC have a statutory duty to obey the subpoena that was issued to them. Consequently, he ordered them to appear with the required documents by 12 noon on Thursday. Read more here. https://thickmatch.com/atiku-vs-buhari-tribunal-summons-inec-chairman-zamfara-rec-appear/

The Ondo State Police Command on Monday disclosed that it had made a number of arrests on the killing of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti. The police reiterated that its men were still in the forest, in the local government in search of the hoodlums. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the command would not relent until the perpetrators were apprehended and brought to book. He said, “We have made a lot of arrests on this matter, but we are doing the screening of those arrested to know who among them are the culprits. “By the time we finish the screening, we will let the world know the perpetrators.” On the number of the those arrested, Joseph said he would not be able to disclose the number for security reasons but said, “As I said a number of people have been arrested and when it is time we shall parade the suspects.” In the same vein, the Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide, said South West governors should be blamed more for the attacks by herdsmen in the region than the Federal Government alone. Olajide, in a chat with journalists during his condolence visit to Pa Fasoranti in Akure, said state governors ought to have taken drastic action against open grazing. Olajide said, “This is an unfortunate incident, it is a poison arrow to the Yoruba nation and I have listened to some of our leaders who have been here and I want you to know that most of the comments are mere platitudes, some of them are grossly insensitive and honestly offend human sensitivity. “For me, there is much to this, it is a killing too many, this is a direct assault on the Yoruba nation and to the sensitivity of our people. It shows they have clearly taken us for granted and this has to stop but I’m quite uncomfortable because most of the time we lay the blame at the doorsteps of the Federal Government but I want to say that more is at the doorsteps of our state governors.” See more here https://thickmatch.com/fasoranti-made-arrests-say-police/
