It appears to me that we are gradually becoming better christians in nairaland. If it were before there would have been a lot more people lining up in the defense of this low life scum of a man.

No one is competing with the world in riches. The wealth of believers is for serving God. I may not be ablle to have 2 million in my account doing nothing. But I can check how many millions have passed through my hands to bless others. So it's possible to live a simple life and yet, you have been a tremendous blessing to people. That's Christianity. The world may boast in asset. We glory in touching lives.

would you say that the poverty in Nigeria today stems from a lack of church and church goers? Or a lack of Tithing? My challenge to you or any other like minded person is to show me a correlation between faith and wealth and please, don't include the parasitic wealth of your pastors.

Nobody likes to be poor, but wanting or wishing to be rich is not enough. I think it was shakespear that said that if wishes were horses beggars would ride. Good education, hard work, applying oneself to always be able to spot opportunities and seizing them is what gets you up the material ladder.

Hey Joagbaje, last time i checked we don't live in the mythical world of Tolkien and co where you fly on dragons back or move objects with your mind or transmute lead into precious metals etc. In the real world where i live, progress is deliberate, it is borne out of persistence and hard work. The Wright brothers did not seek or receive MOGs blessing in order to take to the air, neither did the men and women who worked on perfecting the airplane after them. Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft wasn't blessed by anybody, neither was Warren Buffett and some of the richest men in the world today.
The point that I am making is that if you look at the poverty in Nigeria today, you cannot honestly say that it is borne out of a lack of church and church goers or a lack of muslims. We are poor because we are a nation of people that have lost the ability to think for themselves attributing every little thing that happens around us to the supernatural. When a car crashes or plunges into a river or something, we don't stop to question the state of the driver, the condition of the road or the serviceability of the vehicle in order to understand the cause of the accident and how best to prevent or reduce future occurrence. Instead you hear things like na mammy water, blood sucking demons were thirsty and all kinds of ridiculous stories coming from adults of normal intelligence.
Stop spreading your lies. If what you say were true, nigeria would be richer than the uk, usa, southkorea and even the earthquake prone japan.

Thanks for your encouragement, I have been frequenting nairaland for a while now and just became a registered member a couple of months ago, I only posted my first comment yesterday, because you and a few others with your thoughtful posts and sometimes catchy names inspired me to break free from my somewhat introverted nature to add my voice to the growing number of nigerians willing to stand up to these disgusting criminals.

All these so called men of God especially those of the pentecostal/magical prosperity pedlars are in actual fact agents of the devil, their goal is to debase the priceless value of Jesus' ransom sacrifice to the extent that it can be measured in naira and kobo. All they talk about in their place of worship is how to get material prosperity by sowing seeds of faith. They have turned the house of God into an investment bank promising believers as much as a thousand percent return on investing some specified amount of money on their pastors/church/God. They crassly reinforce this warped unchristian value system on their members by rewarding the rich(ill gotten or not) among them with special front row seats closest to God pastor. At the beginning of every year as far as i can remember, they make all kinds of wonderful empty promises to their members à la this is your year of bountiful harvest, year of excesses, year of fulfillment and so on and so forth. In fact what they are able to promise believers at the beginning of each year is only limited by their imagination and at the end of each year the believers as a group are no better off making a lie of the preachers words. Just imagine how you would react if your doctor or banker gave you half as much false promises as these preachers, would that person continue to be your doctor or banker? Certainly not. Why then do we continue to allow all these evil men to make false promises and not hold them accountable?

In a nut shell, out of the abundance of Gods love for mankind, he gave his only begotten Son so that anyone exercising faith in Him might not perish but have a priceless everlasting life that money cannot buy. Don't let your pastor sell you short, being materially rich or poor is not an indication of your spiritual wealth.

As a christian, i don't think that there is such a thing as a Just lie or Good lie or Innocent lie. I believe that Satan being the Father of lie means that all lies ultimately originate from him. Then again i have heard some people say that there are times when it becomes necessary even for a christian to tell a  lie in order to achieve a greater good. Please, tell me what you think.

It is without doubt a hoax.

I challenge any material prosperity believing christian to show a correlation between faith and wealth. The late Benson Idahosa of The Church Of God Mission used to say that his God is not a poor God so he cant be poor. The corollary to that statement is that the poor in his church do not serve his god otherwise they would be as wealthy as him and the  corrupt civil servants, army officers, drug dealers shady business men and women in church worship his god because they are not poor just like his god

The reason why most of you continue to argue with Tonye-t is because you think that he is ignorant of the truth and that you can somehow make him see the truth with a persistent superior argument. That perhaps he is  like Saul just before he became Paul who pursued with great zeal a wrong path  sincerely believing it to be God's work that he was doing and  God saw the sincerity in his  heart  and mercifully steered him towards the right path which he pursued with an even greater zeal thereby bringing glory and honor to God. The fact is that Tonye-t is a  hypocrite like the pharisees of Jesus' day and just like them he knows the truth about tithing but the truth  does not interest him. He continues to spread this falsehood about tithes because he profits from it and he will do anything to keep as many people as he can in bondage weighing them down as it were a heavy yoke.

What i am saying is that just like Ted Haggard, Albert Odulele and others that have been exposed as the hypocrites  that they truly are. This self acclaimed man of god while cowardly engaging in practices that was clearly condemned in the bible, was going about promising wealth and health to anyone foolish enough to listen to his sermons. Just think about it, how many pentecostal/ magical prosperity believing christians do you know today that would be excited to hear that Ted haggard or pastor odulele is coming to their area to bless them with healing and prosperity? The answer is very few if any and certainly not the crowds of people their presence used to command before they were exposed.
The question you should ask yourself is when did the likes of Ted Haggard stop being a vessel(if they ever were) through which believers got blessed provided of course they obeyed(payed tithes, 'seed offering', etc), was it while they were engaging in such gross immorality or when they were expose to the public? Now if your answer is while they were engaging in immoral practices, does it mean that believers who gave in good faith to these men can ask for a refund just like they do in all other businesses when the other party fails to fulfill its end of the bargain? In this case staying 'clean' and of exemplary character. And if your answer is when they were exposed, does it then mean that it takes the knowing of their deed to stop them from being a MOG?

Joagbeje, your reply goes to the heart of the problem many of us suffer from in Nigeria today, the belief in a 'Magical God'. I am not against prosperity through hard work.
