Politics / Re: Fashola Explains Lagos Debt by doyin13(m): 6:26am On May 26, 2015 |
I don't care for the APC - PDP debate and apologies if i deviate from the debt issue a little. However, Lagos at least sounds like it has a plan or a roadmap of where it wants to go. Perhaps its a reflection of my ignorance of otherr states or Lagos being Lagos, it hogs the media spotlight. But a lot about Lagos still leaves a lot to be desired, and I am not that impressed with what has happened during Fashola's tenure. I remember my excitement a few years ago about the light rail and frequent trips to skysceapercity.com to monitor progress. That all we have is barely a quarter of a line with all that money spent is so disappointing. Not been in Lagos for a while, but I hear the BRT is fraying at the seams. if electricity is the bane of the FG, the traffic/transport situation is a specific Lagos problem and for.me the yardstick with which the state goverment should be judged. it is especially frustrating as a little more forethought and better administration would go a lot farther than the billions being spent on the rail which will do nothing at the scale planned so far. I can see why Fashola supporters rate him highly. At least they are able to articulate where they are going even though, in my opinion, its been a poor administration. that he is probably better than.most of his colleagues shows the desperate situation we are in as a country. 9 Likes |

afam4eva: Let's not be quick to castigate Peter Obi for defending his state. If I were in his shoes I'd do the same because even though El Rufai may have meant well, I think some of the statistics he brandished were ridiculous. I'm one of the biggest critic of Peter Obi on nairaland and it's not because he's the worse governor in Nigeria but because relative to potentials that Anambra possesses, he has'nt done too well. If he was governing a state like Ebonyi, Ekiti or Zamfara, he would have probably been crowned the best thing to happen to those states but his style of rulership does not soothe Anambra. The thing is no one has actually brought any statistics to contradict any of Rufai's. Quoting accounts on google of Onitsha market or showing the number of applications to NAU or giving anecdotal evidence of whats on ground do not particularly provide a good defence of what Rufai has said. I get good accounts of how wonderful Fashola is doing all the time and think of him as poor at best and scandalous at worst. I have no problems with highlighting Rufai's mischief if indeed that is what he is up to, but it would be poor form to only address his intentions and not his argument as well. |

mbulela: Hmmm. . well I disagree with you point on small phases. I think things are so bad, little palliatives do nothing to help our situation. All that happens is they become overwhelmed and any initial gains will simply dissipate in no time. To illustrate, take the traffic situation in Lagos. I will argue that all Fashola has done is apply flimsy plaster to what is a gaping wound. The BRT hailed by all and sundry when it was first implemented is from all accounts now a mess, largely because it cannot cope with the population that resort to it. Nor has it done much to ease the traffic situation in Lagos, not even on roads where it is directly located. Clearly something way more drastic is needed. Something on a systemic level alongside all these other palliative measures. So long as in a family of four, every member of the family and the houseboy has use of a car without any levy to moderate the usage would simply lead to a road network that is overwhelmed. You can have roads as smooth as the interstate in every corner of the Lagos, and a brt lane alongside it, yet you will have thesame traffic chaos. So while it is all well and good that Fasola built a BRt here, or a bridge there, should the praise not be linked to how effective it is in limiting the chaos that we see on the streets, which is nil. However much of what ails the States is directly linked to the Federal-State structure which emasculates the States and leaves them supine and ineffective in really implementing such wholesale changes as are required. Hence they are limited to little palliative measures which while laudable do not really do much in the wider scheme of things. |

Lol. . Its such a big shame what nairaland has turned into. A man criticises some aspects of a budget and its blatantly circumvented into a tribal argument, yet some defend the Governor rabidly. It is very clear the defenders of Obi have not read Rufai's article or else they will not be posting admission info for universities in their state. Rufai already admitted the state is very proficient academically. To be honest, I really don't care for this kind of state by state analysis and do not see much value in it. The whole country is chronically mismanaged and government of any kind, ilk or from any place is highly inadequate and they do far too little or are not in the place to do anything. |

u can say that again. other story of the game was celts lack of offense. Turnovers by Rondo didn't help but he was their only counter to LBJ. Still have a sneaky feeling Celts might pull out a Game 7 although I would like a Thunder Heat Final. Durant and Westbrook vs. LBJ and Wade. |

Haa. . . United again fall to a team that dares to actually play them up the field. At least Bielsa realised his team are a fifth of the team they are when they pressure right up the field. And lo and behold, United were made to look quite ordinary. This so called transition assumes the EPL can regain its foothold in no time. That for me is quite a leap of faith. People think its the players that make the league, but I would disagree. The coaches do. And ominously, they are quite a few of them littered across Europe these days. Coaches who can do a lot more than their funds suggest they should. 1 Like |

Whether Fashola oo or Clinton oo or Jonathan oo. . Once u join the legion of praise singers, you have done the rest of us a bad thing. You have put all your fellows at risk, inflating the ego of this or that politician who for some reason thinks he is better than the rest of us and deserves to hold the reins of power. You can be responsible for building the Nigerian equivalent of the siberian express, I don't care, our primary purpose is to hold them accountable. A grudging remark here or there but no more. Our primary role should be to criticise. Keep pointing at what they do wrong. Make the office so demanding sofools will think twice before letting their egos start giving them ideas. But so long as we keep foaming at the mouth peddling sycophantic and charlatanic rabble,we give every agbada wearing gap toothed, ugly, hat wearing, scarified basstard the idea something about them qualifies for office. Hence. . . .na by corporate reorganisation person go get ligtht. Make e provide twenty four hour light first. Maybe then he migt get a favourable comment. But very grudgingly. |

its really something for GEJ supporters to be demanding a higher standard of evidence. Supporters of the same government that makes policies on the basis of nameless mafias and cabals. I realy dont have anything against the likes of Beaf. It is a sure way to riches, the role of the political charlatan/sycophant. Those who had the mantle before him have suffered no repercussions and are living off their riches. So no beef with them at all. But they should humor us sometimes. They have been on this forum a while now and at least, between ourselves we know what the deal is. |

coogar: hehehe . . like i would care what any United fan thinks. The sarcasm flew right over your gorimapa. Bloody nitwits are actually clamouring for Tiote. The reincarnation of Djemba ''i count leg'' Djemba. Why not buy Keita while you are at it. And on these stats again. You now see the problem. The stats says Lampard does very well. Why should we discount his stats cause they are padded by setplays. Are setplays not part of the game? I thought stats in their ruthlessness are meant to strip out the need for any kind of pontificating. Might it not be your bias at play in your judgement of Lampard. Same way I could discount Hernandez' stats since all his goals are within six yards and his first touch and all round play is reminiscent of Heskey at his worst. Its either we go strictly by the stats or we do away with them altogether. No midway house. Fact is stats are the last refuge of the unperceptive dullard. The chappie who cloaks his insecurities with a bunch of numbers and ever the victim of get rich quick schemes. I bet you play the pools a great deal hence your inveterate addiction. Just remember sha, ''the house always wins''. |

I have told u so many times to learn to watch the game and not reduce yaself to worshipping stats. Only thing genius about him is the inspired imitation of hunchback of notre Seems to think wearing a scowl on his face helps people to take him seriously. And oh my lawd wat a revelation. He plays on the left and cuts in. Hw novel. Ode. The boy is barely above average. I see him ending up in the trash heap like alan smith. Scowlers who use a mask of seriousness to hide a lack of genuine talent. And i wonder what the outcome would be if we polled united fans on who they would rather have:lennon or young.@ |

And from Watford to Villa to Utd is meant to prove what exactly? The northern trajectory frankly suggests he will prolly be shirting for Dundee soon. |

Fact is there is nothing about Young that stands out. He does this and that and those okay, but nothing supremely well. Kinda like a younger Ji sung park or Nolberto SOLANO. No one will pay that kinda crazy money for a Korean OR Peruvian. He will shine in fits and starts but ultimately nothing spectacular. |

coogar: Jeez. . .Did you start the match from when Guittierez got sent off. That was ten minutes from the end. Throughout the second half, United were making chances, and not only after the boy got a red card. Unlike the first half, when they kept their shape and discipline, they were holes everywhere and free headers and wide open wingers and just utter chaos. Shikena. |
