I can't imagine that the mediocre CPC under which Buhari never won any election in 16 years has now fully taken over APC and dismantled the formidable ACN built by Tinubu and other progressives.
Many of us including Tinubu knew that Buhari can never be trusted but they just wanted power and deceived many people in the SW with media propaganda about a man who claims fake integrity.

Tinubu will never turn against Bubu a) knowing the power and authority he controls b) he must have been briefed by Bubu most likely c) the incoming NWC will still have his loyalists d) the sack of Oshiomhole is not a dent on Tinubu but on the Govs themselves since they, the Govs, brought Oshiomhole to be party chair as a compromise to oust Oyegun (whom Tinubu actually wanted out for not installing his loyalist Faleke as Kogi gov and also ensuring Aketi got APC ticket in Ondo outsmarting Tinubu). Finally, Tinubu is still the party leader.

So to say, Tinubu is in control of SW politically, his control of SW is not under any serious attack; Presidency is not prodding or supporting anyone to upstage him, at last so far (compare and contrast Ameachi who is a minister but same govt appointed his main challenger in his state - Magnus Abe NNPC board member; and didn't reappoint his loyalist Dakuku Peterside in NIMASA but also appointed someone without his knowledge in a ministry he is supposed to be supervising).

So why would Tinubu turn against a govt that he helped install, and also spreading his tentacles more (except he wants to invite his Chi to a fight .).

Stop been overtly emotional and face reality, Buhari and Elrufai want to have a new crop of power brokers in the SW, the convention will elect candidates who will pursue the aspirations of the Cabal, the caretaker committee will totally reorganise APC and start the process of turning it into CPC, never trust a Fulani in politics.
We are already seeing Akeredolu and Fayemi (Ondo & Ekiti) charting a new course in the SW with support from Abuja. Tinubu is currently left with Lagos and Osun his states of residence and origin respectively.

The Govs fought back (same Govs were instrumental to the installation of Oshiomhole as chairman) but their influence seemingly decreased under his watch. Remember govs hitherto controlled everything from ministerial appointments to name it since 1999. The APC Govs group (and NGF by extension as recently echoed by Wike) is becoming a relic of its once powerful forum, recall their collective efforts couldn't secure Ambode 2nd-term party ticket and recently, Obaseki.

El-ruffy, Fayemi (unluckily present NGF chair taunted by both past and present govs esp PDP as toothless chair), Aketi, Bagudu and some others are scared and/or trying to grab power as the case maybe.

Historically, it is not rare for a Gov to wrestle with a godfather and party chair, but rare for the Gov not to emerge victorious.

Unfortunately for Oshiomhole, he is not 'indispensable' (like Tinubu we got away with removing a Gov) and needed to go hence both Obaseki & Oshiomhole got Pyrrhic victory for not settling their rift.

I don't think Tinubu lost anything because any new NWC will still have his men as members. The VP, SP, Speaker all can't forget Tinubu's effort to getting them to the positions they occupy, even Bubu as well.
