maestroferddi: Linus ibn Lie Mohammed...
May we have the names of the two Noble Laureates from Harvard doing part-time lecturing at Covenant University?
Private universities have their merits, my friend, but they can't hold a candle to most federal universities. Its one professor and his name is Professor Eric Maskin. You can check him out |

OneManLegion: No, we were comparing Private and Public Unis.
Anyway, I grudgingly acquiesce that your school's not all that hopeless afterall.
But your school still don't measure up to the big-shots among the federal schools.
You try sha. My points prove that they can measure up to the public schools. They have achieved a lot and are seriously improving by the year. Its been a while since I graduated from the school. I'm very sure there are other great things happening there that I don't even know of. |

OneManLegion: "He is an English" is very correct too. It's like saying "He is a Nigerian" or "He is a ghanaian".
Hehe. Don't you just love federal schools students and graduates? I thought someone from England is called an Englishman? Did you study something relating to English and Literature? I don't think this is about public and private university graduates though. Some people from both sides don't know some of these things |

OneManLegion: Arrgh! Webometrics do their rankings based on the websites and websites alone!!
Please, do research on what webometrics is about you're mixing things up.
Btw, this webometrics you keep harping on, is a private school ranked highest in their list? How can you just rank a website like that without any criteria for ranking? Okay what's the criteria for ranking the websites? Oh and CU was number one in the rankings last year for both Nigeria and West Africa. |
Education › Re: Proliferation Of First Class Degrees In Private Varsities The PUNCH by Draxler: 3:55pm On Apr 08, 2016 |
OneManLegion: I'll respond to your claims on webometrics in your other "mention".
No, no Unilorin student, to the best of my knowledge, has invented a car. The only person that "invented" a car was Henry Ford. One can only invent something once and that person becomes the pioneer.
Btw, a student of BUK(Bayero University, Kano) designed and constructed a helicopter several years ago. You can wake me up when covenant university comes close. Yes you are right. Only Henry Ford actually invented a car. I meant constructed a car then. I thought we were talking about CU and Unilorin not Bayero university. Anyway my point has been made. Its a quality school comparable to anything in the country. |

Nusaf: Pls, a word that describe something or someone is called an adjective not proper noun. Even when used in that sense, it is still spelt with initial capital. For instance 'he is an English' 'not he is an english'. Meanwhile, u used the word in the sense of a language and the names of languages are proper nouns Its he is English not 'he is an English' . Well we all learn everyday and I'm glad you taught me this. |

OneManLegion: Oga, webometrics ranks websites, not schools. We're talking about schools themselves, not their websites.
Thank you very much. They rank websites based on certain criteria influenced by the quality of the school. They do not just rank the websites for their beauty. That's all we are saying |

OneManLegion: Okay, 10GB per month is large but you can wake me up when it gets larger than unlimited.
This scholarship scheme you're talking about, I'd never heard about it until now so you can bet that if a sizeable number of federal school students hear about, they'll be sure to displace your folks from the beneficiaries.
No sir, we don't recycle our waste for the purposes energy renewal; do you have a genetically engineered animal? Any animal?
Do you even have a zoo?
No? I guessed as much.
Like I said, webometrics is shit. No one gives a flying _fuck about webometrics except the Covenant university folks who are understandably gleeful about besting a reputable institution like Unilorin in any field; even if it's in one as inconsequential as webometrics. Schools abroad respect the ranking whether you do or not. OAU was number one a while back and they took it as good news too so i dunno what youre saying. Its not inconsequential as you claim. It used to be unlimited too sir, there were several reasons why it had to be cut to 10GB per month. Have any of your students invented a car? Wake me up when you do. And the scholarship scheme was for both private and public peeps. Your public university friends with first class results probably know about it. Renewable energy is still a dream for most Nigerian universities sir. Just give these guys the credit they deserve. The fact remains that they have improved much more than other universities in the country especially when you look at where they were five years ago and where they are now. |

Do you think I dunno what "webometrics" means?
Isn't it some way of ranking the website component of schools as well as their impact?
Wh tf has webometrics helped?
I'm talking about best schools you're telling about website rankings.
Oga, dey go jarey, I don close. You said no international ranking can put a private university ahead of a public university. Isn't that what you said? And i just told you about one that does. OneManLegion: Lame. Lame. Very lame.
If Jesus were a nairalander, he'd have healed something crippled this hot afternoon.
I'm not in the science field, but I do know all our labs are well equipped. There's not a snowball's chance in hell that you come to Unilorin and meet a deficit of technology or basic infrastructure either in the science laboratories or elsewhere.
In every science block in my school, there's a large HD plasma TV that shows lots of cools stuffs as well as showcase the student entrepreneurs we've got and their wares.
Oh, Nobel Laureates come to give speeches in your school? Cool. Tell me, is there anything a Nobel laureate knows that he hasn't already published and made available to both his peers in his field and rthe society at large? Bro, that was another white elephant project embarked on by those rapacious philistines that constitute the administrative. Personnel of your school. Whatever those two Nobel laureates had to tell you guys, they'd alreadt told the world. So those conferences are as useless as the "k" in "Knife".
Your school gives you 10GB of data? How generous! Well, my own school gives me UNLIMITED data. And the download speed has been known to reach a dizzying 1.2 mb/second sometimes. The totality of my tuition fees for this current session isn't even up to 30K.
My school has a zoo in which there's a genetically-engineered cow which can only be achieved via cutting-edge technological advancement in the field of genetics. Wake me when your school comes close.
Goodluck Jonathan awards scholarships to the students from your school? That says more about his bias than about the quality of your school na.
Any other business?
Oh, by the way, we generate our own power too.
Anything else? Oh sir it's per month. 10GB per month. And the scholarship is given after the graduates write an exam. So if the first class graduates are so bad why do they do better than your public uni first class graduates in that particular exam. Do we start with inventions sir? Your screens are they in every classroom? Do you recycle Your own waste for purposes relating to renewable energy? Lame ko. And like I said earlier we are higher than you in the webometrics rankings. So please stop looking down on private university graduates. That's the point of this discussion. |

OneManLegion: Lol. I don't know about other federal schools, but no private school holds a candle to Unilorin in terms of infrastructure. Scratch that, no private school stands a prayer against ANY well-known federal school.
Your comparison of the laboratory of the private universities and their federal(and expectedly superior) counterparts shows your ignorance of federal schools and the infrastructures available to them. No private uni has a better equipped lab than any self-respecting federal uni. That's an incontrovertible fact!
Check out the quality of lecturers, a lot of private unis hire their lecturers from the federal schools where the real intellectual behemoths are. Private universities get the left-overs who'd cater for the sissy over-grown babies.
Private universities are infinitesimal in land-mass when compared to their big brothers(the federal universities). A small land-mass translates to a smaller chance of superstructures cropping up.
In spite of the strikes and the occasional issue of student victimisation by lecturers(which I won't deny), it's almost unheard of for a private university, in spite of their bogus first-class graduates, to be ranked higher than a federal school by the world university ranking body.
Btw, my noble school, Unilorin doesn't go on strikes, we follow our calendar with breath-taking efficiency and expediency.
And you just lost to a student of a federal uni....pity. Oh and by the way your great Unilorin isn't higher than Covenant on the current webometric rankings. The same people that rank Harvard, Yale and other great universities. Who 'lost' now? |

A school like Covenant for example has touch screen tvs in every single classroom including a very large screen(not projector o) in it's ultra modern lecture theatre. How many of your electrical labs have PCB printing machines? I went to one of your public universities and discovered that they had no oscilloscope in any of their electrical labs. There is a part time lecturer in covenant university that is a nobel laurete from Harvard. The school is the only one in Africa that has had more than 2 Nobel laureates coming to give public lectures. Can any of your public schools do this? Or the fact that here we actually recycle our own waste and generate our own electricity? Every student has 10GB worth of data every month for browsing. And believe me it's fast. Cant write it all but we will keep it here. Good luck Jonathans scholarship scheme for first class students nko? Nusaf: If that is the case, then why is it that most of these first class products of private universities can't stand their 2:1 counterparts from public universities both academically and intellectually ? Examples abound. U may take a walk to the nearest NYSC orientation camp and carry out some research. I graduated with 2:2 in Elect/Elect and I work in the same organisation with a graduate of private university with a cgpa of 4.42 in the same E/E who couldn't differenciate btw the electrical symbol of an inductor and that of a resistor. This same guy could not differenciate btw Kwatt and KVA. An overwhelming majority wouldn't graduate with that first class degree in a federal university because the standard is higher here. Which yeye standard? The ones where your labs are Ill equipped? Or with the lack of basic facilities in the school? Where lecturers hardly come to class or frustrate some of their students just because they don't like them? Or the strikes and the riots like the one in Unilag presently? Is that one standard? |

You go believe. Do you think that a Harvard or MIT first class graduate will get a first class in your ill equipped public universities? Most of them will most likely fail in those places because the facilities aren't up to standard. So with that we can also say Unilorin is better than Harvard right? |

Ebube Oti was the last covenant university best graduating student. Dude had 8As and one B in his WAEC. So you think his first class wasn't earned or what? A lot more of the graduates from that set had fantastic results in WAEC and JAMB. People should really stop hating on these graduates. They worked hard in a more conducive environment and they got the reward. Your public schools are in a sad state right now. Right now English clubs aren't good. Even with a weeks rest they stand no chance of beating the top seven in Europe . Next season will even be worse if Leicester and West Ham make champs.
