abeylysis92: Yes, I know that V is negative... But, What of 'f' ? In as much as I know that the focal length of a diverging or concave lens is negative, some questions seem to deviate from that...Check out the questions below please... pabostt: So you mean that the correct lens formula equation for concave or diverging lens is - 1/f = 1/u - 1/v ?? If yes, that is what I already know !!... But some questions seem to deviate from that...Eg: 1) Find the nature and position of the image of an object placed 6cm from a diverging lens of focal length 15cm. Using your formula,I got 4.28,...but the textbook wrote -4.28 ...How come ? 2) For an object placed 6cm from a diverging lens of focal length 18cm,the image is : A) 4.5cm in front of the lens B) 4.5cm behind the lens C) 9.0cm in front of the lens D) 9.0cm behind the lens. I also got 4.5cm here, but they wrote -4.5cm still picking (A) as the answer ...How come..? Please Clarify... |

Hello UI bosses here.... Please this is very very very urgent..!!! I have two friends who got 309 and 302 respectively in this year's Jamb exam but were not offered admission(to study medicine) in UNN due to the competitive nature of the school(i.e. Their names did not appear on the merit list that was just released)... Their question now is... 1) Can We do a change of institution to UI since they have not conducted their Post UTME exam...?? OR 2) Is there any other thing we can do to get admission in medicine this year with our Jamb score..?....no matter the school..?? |

Eben331: Oh..so sorry for that Boss... The thing is that something came up lately that gave me a very busy schedule and I was working to relieve myself from it. I solve every single question posted on this thread. I post only the ones I am 100% sure about......and the ones solved and posted by other Bigger Boses here,I need not stress myself to post them again. Now back to your question: Eben331: I have been ruminating over this question from the very first day you posted it. But,my problem with the question is in the last sentence which says: what is the magnitude of the stone just before it hits the ground? Magnitude of the stone....as in what? Is it magnitude of the Mass of the stone or Magnitude of the weight of the stone or Magnitude of the final Velocity of the stone ? I think from the options given that the question should be : What is the magnitude of the (Final Velocity of) the stone just before it hits the ground? Please check well and reply....So that I can give you my final answer to your question. |

Eben331: Solution. 1) From the principle of conservation of momentum; Momentum of the bullet = Momentum of the gun. i.e. Mb x Vb = - MgVg Note that the negative sign shows that the momentum of the gun is directed oppositely to that of the bullet. Mb = 20g = 0.02Kg Substituting the values in the equation above,we have: 0.02 x 250 = 1 x Vg .: The backward velocity of the gun, -Vg = 5m/s Eben331: Solution: 2) Since P and Q are identical,it means that they have the same mass. Also,Q moved off with a speed of 2m/s in the original direction of P,meaning that their final velocity after collision is 2m/s. From the law of conservation of momentum: ( Mp x up ) + ( Mq x uq ) = (Mp + Mq ) x V From the question,P loses one-third of its initial velocity, which implies 1/3 x up . Substituting the values,we have: (0.25 x 1/3 x up ) + (0.25 x 0) = (0.25 + 0.25) x 2 .: The initial velocity of P = up = 12m/s |

I think that this should be the maximum not minimum acceleration because above this acceleration(3.33m/s), tension becomes greater than 200;meaning that any acceleration above this will cause the cord to break. |
