The Wolf of Wall Street - 20/10
Can't believe I just saw this huh
Absolute turn up for DiCaprio and Robbie

"There is no nobility in poverty
I have been a rich man,
And I have been a poor man
And I choose rich every f..c.king time

Because at least as a rich man, when I have to face my problems,
I show up in the back of a limo, wearing a $2,000 suit
And a $40,000 gold f..c.kin.g watch!

And if anyone thinks I'm superficial and materialistic,
Go get a f..c..king job at McDonalds!"

As my people say,
"it's better to cry in a mansion, than inside a face-me-I-face-you" grin

Crime doesn't pay sha,
But if you want to do the crime, do it big enough to be able to afford a duplex in kirikiri

cc: hushpuppi Woodberry Invictus mompha
Because I am very satisfied with The Wolf of Wall Street
I have therefore declared this weekend The Stockbrokers' Weekend
I will be downloading movies based on the stock market to binge on.

1. Wall street: money never sleeps
2. Margin call
3. The big short
4. Boiler room
5. Money monster
6. Trading places (for some serious laughs)

feel free to add to my list.

I watched all The Purge movie. Truly I believe the movie is crazy and at the same time, mind blowing.

It's true the elite will always find a way to keep the masses under check.
Power belongs to the people.

Genius policies will keep them fighting one another and forget the real enemy.

Welcome to Nigeria.

A celebration of Chinese culture.
A deliberate and conscious construct to sell the good side of their culture.
Kudos to the makers.

And Samo Hung! My childhood hero.
Like fine wine, you have aged well.
Thanks for all the joy you gave me while growing up.

So when will Nigeria start a deliberate agenda to promote NAIJA through movies?
The National Orientation Agencyhuh I wonder what goes on in there!
We need to counter the "Hushpuppiec" narrative about us.
The "Nigerian Prince" scam impression about us also needs to be washed.

The government should budget to sponsor blockbusters that scream "Good People, Great Nation" through Nollywood and even Hollywood! undecided

We do not need to re-invent the wheel.
America has done it.
The Indians did it.
The Chinese are now doing it with a degree of success.

It is well with us.

Ip Man (2008) 8/10
From living in abundance to abject want and poverty. This life.
The movie took me on an emotional rollercoaster.
A lesson to us all; it takes just one bad decision or force majeure for things to turn south.
I connected so much with this man, his dignity and self-respect in the face of overwhelming circumstances.
What a man!
Feel free to drop a tear or two.
PS:
I left home at 18.
Independent, lived the life, traveled the West African coast, hobnobbed with the high and mighty.

By 28,
I was broke, broken, and back home living with my mum.

Life is fickle. Make the best of it.

Shalom

Mike and Molly. A rom-com series starring Melissa McCarthy.

Secondly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think the main lead in The Wrong Missy is cute in a comically weird way with her big eyes.

DrDax, do you recommend I watch all the Purge movies?
A tentative yes.
I fear you may be disappointed.

Let me finish Purge Anarchy first.

So far Election Year is the more thought-out version.

Update:
The Purge Anarchy. 2014 - 7/10
Provides a good background for Election Year.

Imagine being caught on the streets and defenceless on purge night shocked

"The people are not killing themselves enough, so we decided to supplement."
Talk about therapeutic murder. And lawful too. cheesy

The end got me a tear, maybe two sha.
Good purge.

In conclusion:
Dear Ishilove,
I would recommend Anarchy and Election Year for your viewing pleasure.
They are the most closely related.

I know it's been long since I've watched the movie, but was there ethnic cleansing in it?
I thought it was more about class as opposed to race?
Not necessarily so.

Thin line between Class and Race in this scenario.

The rich white supremacists vs The poor black minorities and their white sympathizers.

All about power and retaining it by subtle means.

I do not know what I ate yesterday that gave me a running stomach.
Not a funny experience at all.

So, with that premise, and because the human mind works in mysterious ways,
I am tonight going to binge on the below-listed purge movies

1. The Purge (2013)
2. The Purge Anarchy (2014)
3. The Purge: Election Year (2016)
4. The First Purge (2018)

My review in the morning.
Spoilers are welcome.......
The Purge (2013) - 6/10
The first installment of the purge collection.
Predictable and ponderous at times.
Typical horror story isolation plot.
Fair enough.
Forgettable..

Love the slight plot-twist at the end though.

Imagine your neighbor tried unsuccessfully to "end" you on purge night,
How una go take look una sef in the morning? grin

Had to write the above in 'broken' for maximum effect. cheesy

An ethnic cleansing exercise disguised as a National Holiday.
A supremacist agenda clothed in messianic robes.

As for our presidential candidate, someone should please help me tell her that, YOU CANNOT RULE WITH CLEAN HANDS.

An underwhelming performance by the cast all around.
But what do you expect from a low budget B movie with a smattering of known faces to give it some credibility?

I'm kind of disappointed with this being the latest installment of The Purge franchise.
Badly made especially since it's supposed to be the origin story.
I guess the producers just wanted to milk the storyline.
Shame on them!
