Pls someone that hasn't got a travelling history on his or her passport do they have a chance of getting ur visa approved never mind what u r travelling for
If you are going for a B1/B2 visa, travel history matters more, but it is not a requirement for approval and you can still get denied with it. People without travel history still get their visas approved if they are going for geniune reasons, no matter the category. But it doesn't matter much with student visa.

So for those who have had their Visas approved and are looking to book a flight. There is this App that's gives students discounted prices for flights and hotels. You will need to upload your Visa and admission letter.
The name is STUDENT UNIVERSE.
You can find it on Apple store and Play Store.
Thank me later
Wow...I'm late.

Good evening house. Please can I send my statement of result to WES in place of my degree certificate for evaluation?
Your school has to send your official transcript directly to them.

It was not mandatory until now. It's about $1000/semester and that's pretty too much cos it was not planned for. I am putting it out cos I see many websites and I would like to know if there are other options.
Does your school mandate that international students purchase the University's health insurance plan?

Yes Imo State university
Oh okay..
Also prepare to explain to the VO why you changed school to one in the US...Someone got denied for not being able to explain clearly..

I also responded to your other question..
dreambound:
Try Khan academy, especially if you don't want to spend close to 10K on that blue collegeboard book..
It's online, free and very helpful. They partner with collegeboard so they also still have those official sat questions from the blue book...they would even time you..mark you..and show you correction.

If you put in a lot of dedication to it you'll score pretty well. I used just Khan and was able to hit a 99th percentile score...

Hello everyone.

I'm having my interview in three weeks. I have filled and submitted my DS-160. However, I would like to edit some things in it (work history, to be precise).

Can I do this without it having any effect on the already scheduled appointment?

If yes, please how do I go about it?

Thanks in advance.
The procedure is to fill a new DS160, submit, and update your confirmation number on the appointment..

It wouldn't affect anything since you're still 3 weeks away from the interview.

Transfer is diff from freshman bro..and some schools take just one from SAT and TOEFL for international freshmen and transfer.

Trinity college and some others are test optional for all students.. except international students that don't have English backgrounds. Those few don't require test scores..

Visa delayed today at Abuja embassy
I was interviewed at the first window to the left by a slim young lady.
Transcript:
Me: Good morning
VO: pass your passport & I-20
Me: I did
VO: How did find out about the school
Me: I used usnews.com to search for the school...
VO: (cut in) and then?
Me: I discovered the school website, entered into the site and checked through the program's curriculum and faculty program which I foumd out to be suitable for my research goals.
VO: Did apply to other schools
Me: Yes I did
VO: which school:
Me: I applied to Louisiana State University, West Virginia University, Morgantown and University of Texas El paso
VO: Why did u choose this one?
Me: Apart from the fact that New Mexico State University hosts one of the 54 Water research institute in United States and as such the institute provide grants for all water related researches in the school which hopefully I am a potential beneficiary (Cuts in)
VO: I can see your uncle is sponsoring you
Me: Yes, my uncle
VO: Why is he sponsoring u?
Me: He has always been supportive of my education especially during my masters program when I related the limitations in.my research results due to nonavailability of required facilities. In fact, he encouraged me most of the time and and advised me to travel abroad for my doctoral research which he also promised to fund.
I EXPECTED HER TO ASK FOR HIS STATEMENT BUT SHE DIDN'T. INSTEAD SHE STARTED ANODA ROUND OF QUESTIONING THUS:
VO: Why do you want a doctorate degree?
Me: the doctorate degree is expected to raise my educational capabilities in research and teaching. Before now I've taught mathematics. Further mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A level and pre-varsity centres. Such a profound program with will enable me(cut in)
VO: You are not eligible for visa now.
I WONDER WHY SHE ENGAGED ME IN A SUCH A LONG CONVERSATION AND STILL ENDED UP WITH REJECTION
I THINK I NEED FUNDING B4 GOING BACK O! ALTHOUGH MY FACULTY SAID I'M IN THE LIST OF POTENTIAL STUDENTS TO BE GIVEN FUNDING BUT THEY'VE NOT MATCHED THAT WITH ACTION.
PLS HOUSE, WHICH SCHOOL GUARANTEES PHD FUNDING WITH GRE SCORE OF 295 IN WATER RESOURCES OR/AND ENVIRONMEMTAL SCIENCE ENGINEERING?
What's your total cost?
If it's really large then uncle would be an issue. Hence, funding needed.

I noticed the VO cut in too much. Just asking, how was your composure during the interview?
Did you speak in a nervous/crammed/stuttering manner? You were cut off even when (from your transcript) you were making sense.

The VO may not have seen the reason why you needed a PhD. You should have gone almost straight to the point to the part where you'll talk about what you want to do with it in Nigeria...like pick up a lecturing job.. I know the cut off was an issue.

Falodefunsho:
All praises to the most high God. My visa was approved today.

Degree: M.Sc
University: Eastern Illinois University
Course: Biological Science (One Year Program)
No funding
Deficit 25,625

Lagos Consulate

Q: What course will you be studying
Ans: Biological Science with concentration on Environmental Biology.

V.O: Why are you studying Biology
I studied marine biology but then I decided on this M.Sc choice when I had a short internship with Nigerian institute of oceanography and marine research, through this period,we were conducting marine mammal observation and due to seismic exploration that was going on, there was lots of pollution, it was at this point I draw interest in water quality and ecotoxicolgy, also I really want to work as a marine environment specialist, a job that requires at least a master’s degree in biology or a related field.

V.O: I see you have a b1/b2 that recently expired, tell me about your trip.
Told him I traveled after my B.Sc for vacation,I attended a convention and went on to visit my aunt and uncle,I mentioned I was in Illinois and New York.

V.O: What other schools did you apply to?
Minnesota State University and University it Surrey in England.

V.O: Why did you choose this school
I was mostly interested in their environmental biology course work than the other schools I applied to, they offer courses in bioenergy and bioresources, also they have practical study sites for research on aquatic ecosystems which personally caught my interest and again Dr Charles who’ll be lie my program advisor has an ongoing research in aquatic ecology with emphasis on lake restoration and the use of algae as biological monitors of pollution which directly aligns with my research interest.

V.O: Are you married?
No

V.O:Do you have kids?
No

V.O: Did you write exams.
Yes,I took IELTS.

VO: Are you married? Sorry I asked earlier.

V.O: Who’s paying your tuition
My father

V.O: What does he do?
I told him

Your visa is approved, pick up your passport blah blah blah

Notes:
All the questions weren’t asked in that order but I think I’m fairly correct. He took long typing breaks almost after every question.

SOA wasn’t requested and I wasn’t placed on Administrative processing.

Student’s funds on my I-20 is larger than my deficit, the school wrote the total funds in my dad’s account as funds from Father. So people who have the same issue don’t have much to worry about.

Thanks to Time2Win and Brown2green for mock interviews and to everyone else on the platform adding valuable content. Cheers.
Congratulations!!!!!!!

Fairheart, shall we exchange monikers? grin grin Your dream is taking shape. grin grin

Did he/she beg anyone to PM him or her. Ask your questions on this thread and leave their PM alone, anything that happens there is your business. You can't ask someone to give you names of schools when Google is there for you and nairaland is there. If you want him/her to do the work for you and he/she demands a fee, pay it if you want. It's their choice to do it for free. As far as they are contributing freely on this thread and helping in answering questions, it's good for the thread.
True.
We are creating more problems for ourselves by reacting this way. I don't see the need for all these drama because someone attaches value to some of his own efforts. He did not disrupt our free will, even though he may have used his own wrongly. Pay if you want to pay; Disregard if you don't; Everything would be normal. We still have 'us' and Brown2Green would still help on this thread and through PM (he doesn't add value to every of his private efforts, he privately attends to most cases for free).

We have expressed our disagreements and disappointments and I'm sure he would take note of em.

I know he is not the oldest and most valuable on this thread but he has been silent for a while and this thread feels like we've lost someone.

Alright. I’ll respond to this discussion after this. Before-then, to those billing people I must say there is a better reward in helping freely than those meagre amount you choose to collect. Those that have done that in the past can testify to that I can also testify to that.
To those sending PM’s for information you can easily get here, let’s cultivate the habit of doing our due diligence (research); After all we are all going to graduate school. Don’t underestimate this repository, it has a wealth of information. Just search for it.
We have undergraduates in our midst please smiley
