Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump Statement On US Election 2020: “The Election Is Far From Over” by drinoayo: 6:54pm On Nov 07, 2020
Text of a statement from President Donald Trump on US election result:

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over. Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor. In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

“Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election. It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters. Only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room – and then fight in court to block their access.

“So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands.”

Politics / Post #EndSARS Protests: Prof Gregory Ibe Sues For Peace by drinoayo: 3:11am On Oct 25, 2020
Against the backdrop of escalating violence, willful destruction of property and looting, on the heels of the #EndSARS protests, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Gregory Ibe has appealed for peace, Igbere TV reports.

Speaking in reaction to media reports of escalation of violence across the nation, purportedly as a result of hijacking of the #EndSARS protests by hoodlums, Prof Ibe advocated for restrain and caution “to prevent further destruction of critical infrastructure and subsequent exasperation of an already tense atmosphere.

According to Prof Ibe, I condemn in strongest terms alleged hijacking of the #EndSARS protest by hoodlums, who subsequently have embarked on massive destruction of private and public infrastructure.

In apparent disregard to the mournful mood of the nation, occasioned by the tragic loss of innocent protesters, these acts of arson have been proliferated across the nation with increasing propensity.

He thereby enjoined perpetuators of these unpatriotic acts to restrain while allowing for peaceful resolution of the issues being contended for by the #EndSARS protesters.

In his words, “I join both President Muhammadu Buhari and my Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu in appealing for cessation of all hostilities to create enabling environment for peaceful settlement of the issues that precipitated the protest in the first place.

“I therefore raise and wave the flag of peace enjoining everyone to respect the right of others to grieve over the loss of their loved relatives, heal from the tragedy and obtain closure in the process.”

Contending that wanton destruction of public infrastructure will not be beneficial to anyone, Prof Ibe concluded by enjoining Abians in particular to rise up in protection of public assets by organising local watch sessions and vigilante groups to secure such facilities.

According to him, I also support the call by my Governor Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for security agents and our local vigilante groups to deploy conventional lawful means in preventing escalation of all forms of violence while protecting hard earned public infrastructure from destruction.

He argued that the state needs to remain attractive to all forms of foreign and local investments to grow her economy,a desire that cannot be achieved in an environment of hostility.

Correspondents report that since the unfortunate shooting of #EndSARS protesters by yet to be ascertained uniformed soldiers in Lekki Toll Plaza, the media has been awash with reports of escalating violence, massive destruction and looting of properties across the nation.

Politics / Sen Kalu Schools Opposition On Economic Growth As Senators Debate On 2021 Budget by drinoayo: 9:32am On Oct 14, 2020
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Representative of Abia North Senatorial District of Abia State, on Tuesday during the debate on the proposed N13.08 trillion 2021 budget schooled opposition on economic growth, Igbere TV reports.

This comes after the Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe ( PDP Abia South), in his own contribution, tore the budget proposals into pieces by saying that the budget is nothing but old news.

Abaribe said; "The 2021 Appropriation Bill proposes to spend N13.082 trillion, with expected revenue of N7.886 trillion and a deficit of N5.196 trillion. As with the other budgets over the last few years, it looks impractical and unimplementable.

"The major challenge, as with previous budgets, is with revenue and an overly optimistic revenue target. The 2021 budget hopes that the federal government will be able to generate almost eight trillion naira. If history is anything to go by, this projection looks impossible.

"This overly optimistic position is not new in Nigeria but is part of a continuing pattern of false optimism that has put the federal government’s accounts in the deep red and the country in dire straits.

"To demonstrate this point, the observers needs to look at the performance of previous approved budget revenues and what were achieved as actual revenue.

"In 2016, Nigeria had an approved budget with a revenue of N3.855 trillion. By the end of the year, the total retained revenue was only N2.621 trillion.

"This performance was a 32 percent shortfall according to the budget implementation reports. In 2017, instead of trying to readjust to the reality of a difficult revenue situation, Government of Nigeria repeated the same overly optimistic exercise. The approved budget had a revenue of N5 trillion while actual revenue that year was only N2.37 trillion.

"This performance was a whopping 53 percent shortfall. In 2018, Federal Government of Nigeria repeated the same thing by submitted a budget that expected revenue to jump from N2.37 trillion to N7.165 trillion. By the end of the year, actual revenue was only N3.48 trillion; a 51 percent shortfall. The story was the same in 2019 and 2020. In 2019 the revenue shortfall was 41 percent and so far in 2020 the shortfall is 38 percent.

"Here we are in 2021 and the submitted budget expects revenue to be N7.886 trillion. Based on the half year numbers, Nigeria would be lucky to realise N3.3 trillion in revenue in 2020 by the end of the year. Yet the Executive expects revenue to increase by over 200 percent in 2021.

"When the Executive announces a N13 trillion budget, the ministries and agencies take it as a signal that the largess can continue. A casual look at the Appropriation Bill contains items like SUVs for chief executives and fancy office buildings for agencies who really do not need them.

"All of these things will count as “capital expenditure” without adding much to the productive ability of the economy. At a time when the Executive is on the verge of a serious fiscal crisis some of these proposed spending items are unnecessary.

"The budget betrays a lack of understanding of how modern economies function".

Igbere TV reports that while most of the PDP senators who contributed to the debate, picked holes in the budgetary proposals, their APC counter parts said as bad as the situations on ground are, the budgetary proposals can still bring about required recoveries in various sectors of the Nation's economy as anticipated by President Muhamnadu Buhari who christened the budget as one of " recovery and resilience".

The trend of disagreements continued when PDP Senators such as Ike Ekweremadu, Gabriel Suswam, Oker Jev etc made their presentations against workability of the budget.

But other APC Senators like Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi , Orji Uzor Kalu, Uba Sani, Adamu Aliero, Ibikunle Amosun etc, expressed hope in the workability of the budgetary proposals.

Strongly defending the budget,  the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu said,  "Mr. President's 2021 budget is in line with the challenges currently facing the nation. At this time our nation is regressing into recession due to the COVID-19 pandemic you will have no option than to borrow.

"Any economy where you have serious challenges you have to resort to borrowing but the President's borrowing is being channelled to Capital projects that are on going in the North, South, East and West geopolitical zones of the nation.

Speaking further, Kalu asked , "How do you manage an economy during recession? What to do is to borrow and finance infrastructure like road projects, the 2nd Niger Bridge.

"I urge the leader of the opposition ( Abaribe) to appreciate what President Buhari is doing.  For example in my constituency, Mr. President has just earmarked Twelve Billion Naira to  cconstruct the Umuahia-Arochukwu Road. Do we expect him to print money to construct the road? Of course he has to borrow. So I want my colleague Abaribe to appreciate what this administration is doing, instead of saying that there is nothing new in the budget.

"There is a creation of 774,000 special public works which has been inserted into this budget, those are the kind of programmes that you need to cushion the effects of a distressed economy and you cannot cushion an economy without borrowing.  Senator Abaribe is an economist and I want him to counter my submission, I will give him right to reply because we are not going to print special currency from the central bank, we have to result to borrowing.

"We should also understand that the borrowing is long term not short term borrowing. A long term borrowing facilitates  the building of an economy and creates employment for the people.

"Can also see sight of a lot of socio infrastructural programmes that has been inserted into the budget like the hundred billion for small industries and medium scale industries. We also have hundred billion emarked for Agriculture and healthcare . So I urge this Senate, that due to the challenges that we are facing, we must come out clearly and look into this budget carefully and implement this budget for us to make progress as a nation.  Our economy cannot afford to collapse, our economy cannot have any other option other than growth. We must get the economy back to the part of growth. Mr. President and his team have done the right thing with this budget proposal, we must show solidarity by doing the right thing. Let us set aside our political party differences we must stand as Nigerians . It doesn't matter if you belong to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the People's Democratic Party (PDP) we are all looking for the same thing which is "economic growth" and that should be our rallying point not playing politics we should be truthful in our deliberations and contributions." Senator Kalu said.

The debate continues Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Scandal: Groom In Wedding Disrupted By 'ex Wife' At Chainda Catholic Church Finally Speaks Up

A church wedding was disrupted in Lusaka, Zambia on Sunday morning, October 11, when a woman stormed the ceremony claiming to be a legitimate wife of the groom, Igbere TV reports.

According to report, the groom identified as Abraham Muyunda, who works for Zambia Revenue Authority, is said to be married to Caroline Mubita for 11 years and they have three children together.

Caroline claimed that Muyunda told her that he was going out of town on duty after sleeping with her, when in fact he was set to marry another woman at a Catholic Church in Lusaka's Chainda.

Caroline was tipped by vigilant neighbours that her husband was about to wed another woman and she rushed to the church together with her kids and distrupted the ceremony.

"This man is my husband. We haven't divorced. We haven't separated, we never quarrelled. He even slept with me this morning. He is from home. Idont know what is happening here" she said.

However, speaking to some local media in a 19 minutes audio interview obtained by IGBERE TV on Wednesday, Mr Muyunda claimed that Caroline left him in 2013 when he lost his job.

He said she resurfaced to cause trouble after seeing that he has become successful.

Politics / Group Condemns NLC, Set To Protest Over Fuel Price, Electricity Tariff Hike by drinoayo: 7:36am On Oct 01, 2020
Group Reject Suspension Of Protest By NLC, Set To Protest Over Fuel Price, Electricity Tariff Hike

The Coalition of Southern Group (CSG) which is the supreme umbrella body of the entire 17 Southern States youths and civil society groups, has aligned with Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) on mass protest over the recent hike in pump price of fuel and electricity tariff, Igbere TV reports.

This was even as it rejected entirely, the suspension of the NLC and TUC national mass action earlier scheduled for Monday, September 28, 2020.

This was made known by the group in a jointly signed statement by its board members and made available to Igbere TV on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the group reiterates its stand against the obnoxious increase in the pump price of petroleum products: premium motor spirit (PMS) and the astronomically unbelievable over 200% increase in the kilowatts of electricity tariff as announced by the Federal Government, without due consideration to the plight and yearning of Nigerians who were just trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after a long dreadful perilous total lockdown predicated by the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement read; “We emphatically condemn in its entirety the premeditated resolution to forego the petroleum increment with the most ridiculous 14days waiver suspension of electricity tariffs implementation and onward payments, at the detrimental expense of the mass majority of the Nigerian masses.

“This unforgivable shenanigan's resolution was abruptly reached between the Federal Government and their co-travellers in the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and others, having raise the hopes of all Nigerians to prepare for a nationwide mass action (strike)to call the FG to order but the NLC rather failed Nigerians.

"We call on all Nigerian masses to resist these satanic venom causing us monumental impoverishness and amounting to double jeopardy to the Nigerian people, who can hardly afford three square meals per day, but now further subjected to the hottest part of the hell fire via this unwarranted continuous travails.”

CSG laconically demand immediate reversal in consideration due to lack of alternative provision of National palliatives as a result of the suffocating and depleting hash economic climate that Nigerains are recently passing through.

“We are aghast to note, since there was no verifiable expended funds raised for covid 19 intervention, then the need to review the price downward to #65 per liter became imperative.

“The CSG is on the same page with the CNG on all her resolutions, while ensuring to work in alignment with the Coalition of Northern Group and other likeminds towards forging a common bond and massively mobilizing all Nigerians for a one day warning protest at a collectively agreed date soonest, to be effectively carried out in all the 36 states of the federation and FCT , devoid of any labour unions or traitors, but strictly Nigerian masses struggle.

“In the same vein, the CSG calls for onward national dialogue on the review of the National Water Resource Bill. We hereby commend the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives , Rt Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for calling on members of the green chambers on the urgent need to representing the bill on the floor of the house for full discussion and consideration.

“While using the occasion of the 60th Independence Anniversary on 1st October, 2020 to wish all Nigerians Happy Independence Day celebration, we are calling on the Federal Government to address the issue of insecurity, National divisiveness, Total abuse of the Federal character principles in our national life and the continuous dwindling economy,” the statement read.
