Hi everyone,
Long time, its been almost 5 months since I checked this thread. I have been very busy with work and postgraduate stuff.

My wife and I just renewed our VISAs via dropbox. After the application my wife was called for an interview, we went there together because we applied as a family, but when we got to the embassy my wife was the only one interviewed as my VISA was ready. The interview went thus :
VO: The last time you were in the US u spent 3 months?
Wify: yes
VO:Why?
Wify: I had my baby there
VO: Did you inform the embassy before travelling?
wify: Yes I did, both Lagos and Abuja.
VO: Do u have your receipts
wify: yes(and she presented it to him).
VO: pick up ur VISA at ...... and keep your receipt safe, you will need it like forever.
wify: thank you.

Parents in the house, keep your receipts, you will always need it.

BTW, my boy is now 7 months old. Bouncing up and down, disturbing in a joyous way, its just an exciting experience.

I wish all our pregnant mom a safe delivery like that of the hebrew woman.

Thinking of doing this again anytime soon, maybe not this year.
have a lovely week y'all.

@DebateNigeria,

1. I feel the topic of your post is rather misinformed because from all comments I''ve read regarding the on-going strike, I am yet to see one that suggests Doctors are hated... We only dislike the attitude of Doctors but we don't blame them, it's really the fault of Government... you may wish to read my comments from another thread - https://www.nairaland.com/creativeengr/posts

2. The issue of Doctors is peculiar to Nigeria because Society has allowed you guys become so arrogant perhaps, due to the perception that becoming a Doctor isnt easy but which course is easy? Yes, it is more demanding, it takes longer, others are already employed while Doctors are still in school and bla bla bla . The last I checked, nobody is forced to study medicine and so if it takes longer or demands more, that has to do with the nature of the course and it's part of a noble sacrifice to our collective humanity... Can Doctors take the role of nurses, accountants, security, lawyers, engineers alone in society? We all need Doctors just as Doctors need us period!. this "I better pass my neighbour" mentality is also apparent in military men, lawyers to mention few.. for Doctors, this is part of what informs their regular strike actions but we can't blame them.. what should you expect in a society where a senator earns what 25 professors of medicine earn for doing literally and absolutely NOTHING... This is the root of the problems of Doctors...

Hey, I am not saying Doctors shouldn't be well paid but beyond take home pay or titles, what is the state of our hospitals?

Before you crush me by saying it's not the fault of Doctors, it's an open secret that substantial private hospitals are owned or run by Doctors, including consultants that acquired their expertise on the bill of Govt.. a close friend once told me how a CMD in a Govt. Teaching hospital advised him to always put aside extra cash to fly himself or his family abroad in the event of emergencies.. meanwhile, he owns at least 3 private clinics... who is fooling who? The Doctors, like top Military Generals or Phcn officials remain a major part of the problems faced in their respective sectors...

yes, we admit problems in the system but the solutions are deeper than what strike or getting Govt to pay more money can solve...

I have said it again and again. Doctors are part of the problem in the health sector considering the high level of corruption in that sector. They taught the JOHESU guys all they know they started the diversion of patient to their private clinics et al.
But the contest between doctors and JOHESU should not be tolerated by Nigerians. Misplaced priorities everywhere. The pharmacist should see themselves beyond the hospital environment. Government should start prosecuting doctors who are involved in corrupt practices. Any pharmacy shop administering injections and consulting patients should be closed down. Anyone who is not a doctor or midwife taking delivery should be arrested because they add to our already high maternal mortality.
We deserve a better health care system. We can only achieve that as a nation if we understand the crux of the matter and push for what is right.

Cortana has not only overtaken “Paul the Octopus” in no. of correct World cup predictions, but more impressively it has now 14 correct match outcome predictions in a row. Last correct prediction was for yesterday’s Semi-finals, where Argentina won over Netherlands and Cortana got it right again.
This time around cortana predicts Germany lifting the World Cup

Please consult your doctor (pharmacists also have deep knowledge about drugs) before taking any drug. Consult any other health worker at your own risk. My 2 cent.

"Dear all, arising from the EDM which ended 5:30am this morning, the total and indefinite strike continues until our minimum demands are met".
I really wish they had called it off. Federal Government should do the needful.

God bless Nigerians

Acidosis:

Scared parrot cheesy A Pharmacist can survive in several other organisations aside the hospital.

Those drugs you prescribe weren't produced in the mortuary.

Pharmacists and still dictate to you which drug to prescribe to your patients (NAFDAC).

You have to study the British Pharmacopeia (written by Pharmacists & Pharmacologists) to understand the dynamics & kinetics of drugs.

We all need to appreciate one another in our chosen career. smiley

God bless you Acidosis. I am a medical doctor and didn't want to comment because there is no need to. This your statement is so correct. I don't think there is any doctor who is currently fighting to head pharmaceutical companies or the health sector. The health sector actually needs a multidisciplinary approach as the patient will be the biggest beneficiary. What NMA is fighting for is that doctors should be the head in the hospital environment, not in the pharmaceutical companies or NGOs. Actually one can become a consultant in any professional field, Business, marketing, etc. so other healthcare professionals should be allowed to become consultant, but with a well structured programme not to rival the medical doctors, but to add more value to the sector.
What most of you don't know is that in public hospitals (teaching hospitals in particular), before a lab result is released, it must be endorsed by a pathologist (who is a medical doctor), medical doctors (radiologist) interprets X-rays, Ultrasound results, MRI and CT scan. The job description is clear, but we all need each other.
In terms of renumeration, if you google the richest professionals in the US, UK, etc, you will find medical doctors (different specialties) topping the list. You can hardly find other health professionals on the list. Doctors don't earn the same amount with other health professionals anywhere in the world. But other health care professionals have the right to earn big as well.
In terms of medical school, yes, other health professionals take BASIC courses in anatomy, biochemistry and physiology but not as deep as a doctor (in Lagos, most hospitals employ auxiliary nurses, can we then call these auxiliary nurses real nurses and earn same as a registered nurse because they can give injections and dress wounds)?
I work in Lagos and most private hospitals are owned by doctors, those that are not owned by doctors must employ a doctor before they are given a licence to function, the disparity is even wider in private setting where doctors earn 100 naira, registered nurses earn 50 naira while the auxiliary nurses earn about 15 naira (they do most of the work).
Let's tell ourselves the truth, none of us will visit any centre if there is no doctor there. Yes, doctors make mistakes, but I can tell you that the mistake is everywhere.... Imagine a pharmacist who prescribed ciprofloxacin and fansidar to a pregnant woman before quickening which resulted in a miscarriage. Knowledge and experience is key. I will never go and start mixing different chemicals to produce a drug, that is not my field or area of specialization.

We should work together in the health sector. Take a clue from the public health team (anybody can become a public health expert), let's respect boundaries, doctors must respect other health workers, they must respect us as well.
Within the four walls of a hospital, the doctor is head, however the health sector is big enough for everybody, the pharmacist is the head in a pharmaceutical company, the engineer is the head of a biomedical tech, the nurses are care givers, sweet and always trained to assist the doctor so as to give patients the best of care.
I rest my case.
