This must be payback for Ghana must-go days in Nigeria. |
The Ghanaian authorities yesterday continued their hatred for Nigerians and their businesses by closing their shops and arresting some of them. In the past two years, businesses owned by Nigerians in Ghana have been shut severally, while the owners were arrested and received verbal threats of attack. Beside petty traders, big time businesses owned by Nigerians, including GSM operator Globacom Limited, have been harassed by government agents. In particular, Globacom was denied the opportunity of erecting its masts in major cities of Ghana earlier in the year. Yesterday, some shops belonging to Nigerian traders based in Ghana, as was done in April and May this year, were closed down by a special task force set up to monitor Nigerians’ compliance with the Ghana Investment Promotion Council’s (GIPC’s) investment law. This development contradicts the assurances given by Ghana’s minister of trade and industry, Hanna S. Tetteh that Nigerian businesses were not under any threats. “Now as far as businesses between Ghana and Nigeria are concerned, again from our point of view, we do not have a problem. The issue has been a misrepresentation of the legal position as it stands with regards to business. Our position is that petty trading – and by this I mean trading done in a kiosk, trading done in a market, is something which, by Ghanaian law, is reserved for Ghanaians”. The mid-day raid on the shops took place simultaneously in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale, and hundreds of Nigerians were also arrested. Speaking to BusinessDay on telephone yesterday, Jasper Emenike, President of the Nigerian Traders’ Association in Ghana, confirmed the raid as well as the arrests. “As I speak to you now (2.45 p.m. Ghana time), shops of our members are being locked up simultaneously in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale,” Jasper told BusinessDay. “Even some of our members have been arrested and taken away by the task force for undisclosed reasons. They refused to tell us why they were taking them away,” Jasper further said. He could not, however, tell the number of persons arrested because of the commotion stirred up by the raid which has been on-going since 2007. Apparently, this recent raid is a continuation by a special task force set up by the government to ensure that the new GIPC investment law which stipulates $300,000 is complied with. George Aboagye, chief executive officer of the GIPC has, on several occasions, said that according to GIPC Act, petty trading, hawking or selling from kiosks at any place is wholly reserved for Ghanaians but that the law does not bar non-Ghanaians from operating in the trading sector whether wholesaling or retailing “provided they make the initial equity capital investment in cash or goods of at least $300,000.” Emenike had confirmed that some of his colleagues had come together to put up the money, but are waiting to see how the on-going discussions between the Nigerian and Ghanaian government would turn out before reaching a decision on which path to tow, because the stipulated $300,000 is quite on the high side for a petty trader to afford. Highly educative thread |
why all this secrecy on nairaland? does the next man getting a job affect you in any way, it is rather a blessing for you that the next man is better off because of you. I've noticed the trend of people saying they've got 10 offers from many companies and want advice on which to choose but never want to tell the next nairalander how to apply. JUST TELL US HOW YOU APPLIED! |
I need a brand new and unlocked blackberry bold 9000. budget =60k mail me at meoler@gmail.com |
my opinion: overgo all the guessing games of whether she's changed or not? whether she's still practising or not? whether she's been with a gazillion men? whether she's got other kids you don't know about? whether she's aborted before and how many times, whether she's gonna cheat on you in the future if you get her mad. duh?? whether she can be trusted with your next door neighbor? whether she's gonna bring shame to your name? Imagine these questions running through your mind for a lifetime. Go for peace of mind instead. You may forgive her and marry her but at the back of your mind you may never trust her or value her(This is the problem with a lot of marriages) Solution: Get a confirmed decent and God-fearing girl (Yes, they are everywhere) A lot of ladies on this forum will say, forget about it and just go ahead because people change. Sorry to burst your bubble but thats not the case. So many women think that they can live a wayward life in their youth and still find a willing husband at the end of the day. You should see them filling the front rows of the church praying and fasting for a good man when all the bad guys that used and dumped them will not even have anything to do with them. Now they finally retire from a wayward life by resting it all on a good but naive man who doesnt know that his wife has been passed around all the corners of Lagos and beyond. Why should the good man settle for the bad guys leftovers? Go for a lady you can trust whose past wont give you hypertension anytime shes away from you. Be warned. |
Fhemmmy:can we have pics of the passat 2007 2.0lt |
hw much can i pre-order a 2007/2008 passat, if u find a clean one hw long will it take u bring it to mi doorstep, just want a good one, thanks |
MrPrsdent:This is the best advice so far. @poster, wake up and smell the coffee. I love the song by R-kelly , When a woman's fed up, there's nothing u can do about it. She's done with you and you'll be a fool to sit through this horror movie till the end cos theonly heart that'll be broken will be yours. I learnt not to pity women in relationships cos as soon as they find a better option dem no go pity u at all (singing;when a woman's fed up). My advice: Reclaim what left of your dignity: dump her and dump her quick! kpolli:One more thing, No second chances. |

Pls no mails. My post is over 4 years old. |
I am wondering what exactly the poster hopes to achieve by this nonsense? Soludo is not a genius but he got it right with the consolidation. What every government should want to do is to create jobs and grow the economy,if we are saying a room in the house is leaking water then becos of that we shld bring down the whole house then something is really wrong.Yes,there is a problem with coperate governance but do u destroy everything in sight just to rectify that problem;the countless number of job losses(which will definetly increase crime rate),the downward spiral of the stock-market which may never recover, the incessant number of unemployed undergraduates. If you can tell me how Sanusi intends to manage this situation then ill listen, what exaclt does he intend to do to fix this whole MACHO-MAN RANDY SAVAGE style of management. We are not animals,we are rational beings, thinking thru every possible outcome before we make decsiions. There could definetly have been another way of ensuring coperate governance and managing debt recovery without punching the economy in the throat. |

michelin89:do you know that with your support things can get better if you meet them halfway? |
see how una dey blast my friend for here. It's no wonder other Africans hate us, we never support our own(It must be a Naija thing).Even the Super Eagles can't count on our unflinching support. Kaone from the just concluded BBA was not the best looking or most entertainng chap from Botswana but the support from his country was overwhelming nevertheless. It got me thinking that we as Nigerians are quick to put down our own. Instead of praying for the president some people are out kicking the poor man when he is down. Glory has the brains(and the beauty) to do this country proud and project us in a positive light to the rest of the world, believe that. Most times, the prettiest girl doesnt the competition, some has beauty but lack brains. Our girl is up to standard and we do not have to put her down for whatever reason rather she needs our support to put Nigeria on the map since she's already been chosen (Isn't that what we all want?). Apart from Agbani, why havent all the "beautiful ones" that went before her won the crown? Besides the indicies and methodology for judging these paegents are flawed and hardly favour blacks. So whether she wins it or not is irrelevant as she is an ambassador for Nigeria(and a good one at that). Those who have been criticizing her should rush down and buy forms for next year's contest(they are on sale now) and lets see if they will get as far as she does, look nearly as good, or even handle criticism from your own country-men. Nigerian's/Nairalanders this put-me-down syndrome has to stop. If this were an SA forum they would support their own(not matter what) and bash the Nigerians, which is what we are already doing to ourselves. - d-ROC. |
