I suffered that too. My early days on uber... Dropped a rider and was checking the network strength. A guy just opened the door, sat in front and asked if i work with aero, for me parking around their gate. I was trying to say something.... He immediately pulled out my keys from the ignition.... That day wasn't funny. My partner paid the 10k and told me not to bother paying back....
Now i don't even wait a second after drop off. I rather drive around if i get a request till the rider is ready and out. Shine your eyes guys
(The kind of mind i have now ehn.... If it happened today, i will drive the guy out of the airport... I know where to drive him to. That's if he didn't beg to come down half way)
What is going on lately.. The uber thread has been boring lately and am very bored.. My guess is that drivers are making money and no time to fight on the thread... abi make we lit up the thread for good old time sake ..

I've spent one year now on Uber/Taxify. The truth is the work has gotten more competitive ... I still gross #100,000+ every week; but I have to spend an average of 12 hours on the road everyday!
It's not a lot of drivers that can do that without crashing their car one day.

#35,000 per week rental is the reasonable rental this season, with the driver handling fueling and minor repairs. Owner should take care of the servicing of the car and major repairs.

Drivers should stay away from hp. The reason is simple, driver's cash flow can't handle major issues that are bound to come up with the car. What I advise drivers to do is to set aside for themselves, a "car purchase" fund. Open an Alat account, set it so you won't be able to draw it till about 18 months time, and start paying in #20,000 every week. Even if you are dying in the hospital, the bank will not release the money to you until the maturity date. #20,000 per week multiplied by 75 weeks is #1.5 million! Enough funds for a direct tokunbo car, grade A++ ...

My 2 Kobo though ...
My chairman..... How work dey go now

Good day bro, please how did arrive at #1.6m.
You said you will sell the car for 850k ? And the buyer is responsible for shipping and clearing. You stated shipping cost is $1k and my guess to clear that car in Lagos will cost nothing less than 400k.

Cost clearing the car is about 400k , when all shipping cost of $1000 and 850k ,the price of the car will hit 1.6m .That's expensive for matrix 2004 model

You cannot speak for all drivers. And you cannot group all together. Most weeks I'm online for a max of 70hours. Some weeks as low as 50. Pick 2/3days to work out rental. Other days soft work if it's 15/20/25k I see extra no p. Depends on how the request comes. Health is key.
You are properly 1 out of 200 that will not work more than 10hrs to 12hrs a day. The majority of driver will work or flog the car given the chance. Regardless if the rental is 10k or 45k.
That is the nature of a lot of Nigerian. And be honest with me, how many people out of 100 will return a suitcase full of millions of dollars found in their car

Stick to your driving bro .... You want 70k miles corolla smh even if I give to you the greed will not let you see road. Go to the bank and borrow money to buy a 70k miles corolla car. This is reason people don't excel in business or in life in general... funny guy

Ohhh now I get you.. I agree with you full time, maintenance is very important, but you know some Partners have full time jobs.. So they cannot always be available to ensure the driver does the right thing or use the correct part for any less than 5k maintenance.
We all know that some drivers even with a 10k or 15k rental, they will still use substandard part or ignore faults till it gets worse and becomes over 5k maintenance.
A good rental value(33-40k)is kinda like an insurance, in the event of car breakdown which will surely happen, partner would have made reasonable returns and from the money the car has made, the partner would be able to fix the car right.
Hopefully

Gazzuzz mentioned how he started daily oil level/colour inspection. What I was expecting is Partners like yourself stating how you do your own periodic inspection of your cars, because I notice most partners just do a walk around, to ensure there's no scratch or dent.
Some partners don't even want to know about the less than 5k maintenance, that was done by the driver on their car"
If my driver wants to do a minor maintenance, I want to know he's doing the right thing, and not turn a deaf ear, because it's less than 5k, he should take care of it.
The initial post and my reply is not about weekly rental.
cc thebigkendo

I do inspection every two weeks. My manager does is own inspection and he changes the oil religiously

and what happens when you get good rental value for 6 months and your engine knocks, there has to be a balance
Well so far so good. Most of my cars have been running for past seven months now. If I can't get value for my car, I will either park some of them sell it and move on or ride it out, which everone comes first. Time will tell ... and regardless how you look at it . If you give out your car for even 20k a week. There is the possibility that the driver will still flog the car and trying to make double than the owner.
The bottom line is wheather you get value for your car or not . Drivers will still flog your car.. Wheather you give them rental for 15k a week they will still complain and tell you business is slow. That is the reality of the business, when business was good they still complain. It's a tough business bro... and also the elantra engine is cheap I can get for $300 ship it for for nxt to nothing and refurbished the car . When that time comes I will take a lot into consideration.

oil colour and level ok, car is good to go.

New requirement for all drivers every morning.
This is the basic stuff am saying. How many drivers will do oil check in the morning? It is not their car, why should they care. This is one of the reason I always tell partners make sure you get good rental value or maximum value for your car. Hopefully drivers can do the basic that you are doing rite now ... keep up the good work

If I'm being honest, drivers are not having it easy this period. But they need to endure, surely the market will boom again. I see myself as a driver more than a partner even tho I have more than three cars on the platform because I drive full time as well.

Drivers are probably agitating because they are no longer making more than the partners but they still make good money, more than enough to survive with your family. If you can manage to make 25k for yourself weekly, thats four times the country's minimum wage. Drivers should please calm down, the business will definitely pick up again. Heck, its picking up already.

I also foresee that most of the current crop of drivers(graduates) will eventually lose the job to people that appreciate the average 25k/week more than them.

Mr Dru, no fear. Business is still very good. grin
Thanks bro.. Well I just like to do my findings... a lot of people on nairaland are complaining, maybe handful so before I take any serious decision I like to see what's on ground. For now my drivers are paying 40k weekly. One car is down coz driver could not do 40k weekly . That is why always tell people on the forum to mingle with people that are either doing better than them or they should do their own research before they reach any conclusion.
And the best way to do research is talk to people that are on ground. Not just one or two and from their you can make better decision based on your reliable sources. I preach that on nairaland all the time . So I have to practice what I preach. So thanks sha ...
