Honestly wen it happened to my car I opted to buy 5W 30 mobil 1 but then Mobil started producing that 5W 30 semi synthetic. I thought of I used it and no difference I will then buy Mobil 1 but bro after d first oil change it worked like magic. NO SINGLE OIL SHORTAGE no be say e dey short small small. I have confirmed and reconfirmed it.

It's like it reset itself back I don't know but if u check online ix not uncommon. Engines are built to last really and like plants once em sense water dey come back to life. Except d death don go far ooo but from his explanation silent engine still performing well etc I'm hoping this sud work

Very underrated comment. It works ooo. Saved me from buying engine and na em I dey use till today and 1 year plus of engine shorting.

Buying the recommended oil synthetic preferably

Please as I wanted to go out this morning, as my morning routine check on my car, I noticed there is shortage of coolant in the reservoir. I had to refill, #(though it did not take up to half of the bottle water).#

No sign of leakage, is it suppose to be so?

The car is 2012 corolla.

I will be waiting for the professional to advise.

I bought original mobil 3 years ago.then i felt all oils were original.my engine wey never smoke for 2years started smoking after oil change with the mobil 5w30 i bought directly from mobil filling station.since then i had to be using oil treatment.

I bought some Pennzoil oil from you a long time ago - your Lagos sales person was a young lady whose name I can't remember now (Augustina or Perpetua I think).

So sorry about that. That is the same issue I'm talking about. They are so good in making the fakes that you have no way of knowing which is which unless you bought it directly from reliable source abroad. But pennzoil is very scarce.

This is definitely not true, there are Nigerians who take care of their cars more than some careless people take care of their own health, I have been using the car I drive now since 2021, when something that can be ignored like a bad washer fluid reservoir gasket got bad, i treated it like what could damage my engine, it got fixed immediately, my car sometimes isn't used for a week, and still oil changes are always on time, leather seats regularly conditioned ( I use them and don't believe in covering them, I hate seat covers, car is mine and so are the seats).
At every oil change, I tell my mechanic to look carefully while doing a general inspection (even as there's no complaints), I have two warnings lights, my check engine is as a result of a missing catalytic converter, my tpms is because I have tyres bigger than the recommended tyres installed.
Every other thing works, from cruise control to power mirrors/seat and AC, ( factory fitted, heater works, an untouched system), a look at my engine bay will tell you how nicely maintained the car is, no oil stains or stupid wiring, I've even done a drain and refill on my transmission three times, just felt like, this is why I would confidently get into my car anytime and drive to Belgium if I needed to.
I take care of it because I never want it to disappoint me, I drive responsibly, don't have any business doing high rpms, it's a V6, don't need that, I'm never planning to sell it, will use it until it dies and is unfixable, I am at 141,000 miles and just saw someone with the same car get to 444,000 miles, proof car is still new 😂.

And pls no be all of us for Nigeria dey use cars like animals. I bet you, I will/have use/used car(s) for 3/5 yrs and above and you wont compare it with SOME so called direct Belgium cars imported.

I once ordered for a Mercedes gear oil from Trade fair for the 7 speed and when I scanned it, it showed brake fluid. I think we should advise motorists to scan the oil before buying even if they are lured by the lower price. Even the petrol station are selling adulterated oils in their stations. Na your job sha. Since Gazzuzz passed on, it is difficult to service engine with full chest. Do you sell Castrol?

They have perfected the difference. Many sellers on Jumia are selling both the fake and the real. The only difference is the price. The day that the price will be the same, that will be the end of good quality oil in the country. Protect your Pennzoil from them. See that oil that is formulated in the US and tested in Nigeria , God will deliver whoever uses the oil on their korope.

You will find Mobil 1 and Castrol edge extended performance for 35k on jumia and the real one is 85k and you will never know the difference until you open the gallon and find groundnut oil mixed with API SD 40 in the gallon. Jumia is no longer a credible source for good and quality oil because of their lack of quality control. If Nairaland is allowed to harbour these oils, it will go the way of Jumia as being unreliable. Dru 23 has been refined through the constant bombardment on his oils and now he does not bother with oils easily adulterated in the country.

Dear Nairalanders,

Kindly advise accordingly.

The car in question is a 2007 Toyota Corolla with mileage of over 200k. I’ve noticed it consumes oil. I currently use Mobil 2000 5W-30, and usually have to top up after about 3–4 weeks post-service.

Even while topping up, I’ve always maintained the same oil type. However, during a recent top-up, I switched to Mobil 1000 (5W-30), and I observed that the oil lasted longer before the consumption became noticeable.

My concern now is:
👉 Should I stick with the new (lower grade) Mobil 1000 since it seems to reduce consumption?
👉 Or should I have the piston rings and engine checked instead?
