pope191: Today I look at this trend and I shake my head, it will be wrong for me to say baseless argument, but that's what it look like. If here is what'sapp group, man don exit.
Like what's the fuss about? Is it to keep the trend floating or settle scores? This car, that car, I've read cars to a point, as I deh like this I don confuse, sotey I saw hybrid. For God sake, ma corolla, matrix, civic, hyundai, volvo, mack o, we all have been (at least known) doing this driving thing for close to 2 years or more and I don't think anyone is using fuel of 6k to make 15k or buying parts every other week, whatever car we may b using, have served it purpose outside accident or poor maintenance, neglecting ford.
So what's it with cars or rental? Partners can peg whatever they like and if the driver see it fit to accept the agreement, fine! Is there a place standard price was written? I honestly don't understand how we intend to run business plan by this back and forth, where we know that situation changes and it's the deliberation and decision we made inbetween that we keep such busines going.
And to the partners, I just want u to know u r at the mercy of drivers, know that and know peace. If he chooses to b stupid, it will effect ur business in major way.

Crvrider: I disagree. In this part of the world I think their business model was designed to fit rentals. Without rentals it would have been very difficult for uber to function in this climate. Any other model that is not rentals will not work in Nigeria for the simple reason that the percentage of car owner-drivers will not meet the demand.

Godfather10: The average of a hard working driver for a day is between 20k and 25k, for lazy drivers like Felicity l can say btw 10K to 15k everyday, so he will need 3days To make what a hard working driver will make, in order to be fair to all parties and for the success of the value chain 2/3 days should be dedicated to car owners and 4/5days for drivers, in a nutshell delivery shoud be btw 40/50k weekly so every person on the value chain will be contented, the platforms have set the ball rolling by increasing what drivers earn to keep them happy its only logical that everyone on the value chain should be happy. From my observations, a lot of UBER drivers in Nigeria are well educated and think logically, not like danfo drivers, UBER driving should be seen as a stepping stone to better things. For drivers that have big dreams and hope to become successes in life, show your dashboard to encourage others, as to what can be accomplished, Nov/Dec is the 2m gross period for those hardworking drivers with a plan, and January is the month that you invest the 2m you have saved to generate a new income stream, implement your new business idea, The choice is stark and simple you are either a Felicity, who talks a lot and accomplishes nothing Or you are a Kanuisgoat who shares his dashboard and is born to be great, Kanuisgoat has a plan & becos he has a plan and he is not bothered about greeting or such infintesimal nonsense. The ball is in your court folks. Just like with anything in life.. Job, marriage, spiritual etc . they should be a progression in one's life ..... Driving uber should be a stepping stone .. Even though I don't drive .. It was a stepping stone for me to do other things....... So we hope that the hard working drivers will progress from driver to car owner. And from car owner to fleet etc ..... It can done. .........Pearl1910 is a good example of that......My last driver is an example of that... 1 of my driver was able to save up money and got his own Tokunbo car .. This is a married man with 4kids .........anything is possible |

Godfather10: Dont give your car out for 25k o, unless you are an NGO, i rent mine at 35k weekly but l do all repairs. Anything less the 30/35k is an incredible loss, forget vouching o, that is deception, its either 30/35k or keep your car at home, drivers should not be telling you the best rent to pay, off course they will give you an amount that serves their interest and that will ultumately ruin you, you should be asking partners and owners, 35k is the most ideal amount when it comes to rental, at the end of the day drivers no dey send you, when things go turpsy turvy, bad. Trust me on this. You are on point ......100% agree with you..... I think 30k to 35k rental is fair enough....very fair ........ But people will say why am doing 25k rental.... Everyone can't source for their cars they way I do..i do believe partners will have to find to strategize for their own benefits....... For new investors coming in 30k to 35k is very ok.. Make sure you handle all ur repairs and the car is 100% in good shape........ |

Advision: From a driver perspective. There was barely a weekend I didnt gross 40 - 50k (net at least 25k) even during the driest period. On public holidays/festivals, I can do 50k in 1 day if I drive morning and evenings.
Mind you these figures where made morning and evenings only because I typically hate afternoon traffic and selcting only trips to areas I consider to have good roads.
Morning rush (excluding bonus) 5am - 12noon, a driver can consistently make 8k net (Monday - Wednesday), slightly lower on Thursday and Fridays at atleast 4k net.
Nb- I did not factor afternoon and evening weekdays because I almost never did drive by then. But even fron the drivers app, with the surge that comes up at peak afternoon and late in the evening, will the driver not make something?
No serious driver should make less tha 60k net a week execpt under extraordinary circumstances. And if you make 60k and owner of the car collects 40k (2/3), it is not too much given that he owns the car, carries the risk of business failure and bares maintenance You are very correct on ur write up.... The market has regulated itself now .... If you know what you are doing u make money .....drivers should be able to deliver up to the 30k to 35k, 40k might be a bit too high........ I think overall investors should find a way to strategize . if my cost of maintenance goes up with any driver due to their carelessness, I will increase rental delivery simple as that.......... |

Partners collecting 25k are really trying. Especially those with just one car.

@dru23: how many years does it take you to break-even on a car with 25k? The Honda Civic 03 to 05, I try to buy them nothing more than N1.5m using exchange $1 to N500 .... I keep under 1.5m even under this Buhari exchange ..... What matters to me is as long as the business pays itself .... If I don't have to take out money to fix things than ok....... Advision: I have managed cars actively on the platform for over 3 years. In all this while, I maintained an active bolt driver account I used during the weekends when the most money were on the table.
Even without driving full time and having now retired since rentals and costs became unfavourable.
No one can run the business profitably even on 25k rental right now using tokunbo cars, not even moove with their large fleet n economies of scale. Personally when, I understood the business better, I converted all my cars to hire purchase at 35k with 300k upfront.
If there is something you think you can school me on, say it, I am listening. Dont tell you you have driven for longer than I have. I don't think new investors can make 25k currently especially on Tokunbo cars.... But old investors that have excess to cheap cars and forex will do ok ..... |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by dru23(m): 2:24pm On Jul 18, 2021 |
Blackbishop: Check this out, you have 4 cars on the platform delivering 25k weekly that is 100k per week, as a business man you are not putting your home expenses on it. Per month you have 400k steady and you have up to par cars no weekly wahala.
So according to Dru he only run services and not major repair in 6 months that is 2.4milla. servicing and the minor repairs coat him 300k for the six months on all his cars that is a balance of 2.1milla left.
So as a business man he his making more profit. But it is not easy at all .... Having good drivers plays a major part.. So this is why my rental is 25k ... Am not saying that my method will work for EVERYONE...... |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by dru23(m): 12:30pm On Jul 18, 2021 |
izzou: I really wonder how you partners break even with collecting 30k weekly, and still handle all repairs and maintenances
Jehovah.
Of all the transportation vehicles used in Nigeria, Uber own too poor.
Sienna to Abuja - 45k to 50k a week LT bus from OkoAfo to CMS - 10k daily (Yes... daily) Okada for some streets - 8k to 10k weekly
Then I'll buy Corolla at 2.5 million and be collecting 25k weekly and handle all maintenances?
With all due respect, Dru23, I know this is a big request, but do you mind showing us how you break even.
Please kindly educate us on how you do it. Because I just don't see how realistic it is Everyone has a different strategy o... Having good drivers and good maintenance culture will help u in the run....... Keep in mind my cars are Tokunbo and I source for them cheap...i have some cars that are on the platform for at least 2 yrs or more......maintainence culture matters alot |

Pearl1910: Yea...driver bears all the risk, danger and threat, puts all the work, time and energy. Utilizes his Intelligence and craft to make the money. Car is insured but life cannot be replaced so if he makes 1m and gives owner 30k its not out of place. Fair enough ........ |
Business › Re: If You Are Uber Partner In Lagos, Please Share Your Experience Here by dru23(m): 12:01pm On Jul 18, 2021 |
donfortune48: Congratulations @Dru23. Finally your challenge have paid off.
You can now officially increase your rent to a suitable amount with what's obtainable on the streets. Whether to increase rental or not should be up to the partners... I think 25k rental is low due to raising cost of parts etc ...... But my strategy is at 25k ..This is by attracting good drivers and the type of car been used..... I believe once you are able to put your car in perfect shape this will avoid downtime ...... When I put a list of my recent 2003 Honda Civic repairs. Even though it was a Tokunbo the goal was to be able to have the car on the road longer than other cars and to avoid downtime.......this way my 25k rental will make more sense....... Some partners that are collecting more 25k will likely spend more on repairs than me not due to driver over working the car , but due to not having the car fully ready for the job....... This is why I pick the civic, it can handle the ruggedness of the job and it is low maintenance.. So when u see me investing 100k plus on repairs on a tokunbo car. It is to make sure to avoid down time.....This is how I make the 25k rental work for me .. Most of my Civic have little down time...you invest in the car by making sure the car is up to par. Also hiring good drivers matters a great deal........ |
