Academic and non-academic activities in the Nsarawa State University Keffi have again been shut down over issues bordering on none payment of salaries and allowances of academic and non-academic staff of the institution. While the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is asking for the payment of their four months salaries by the Nasarawa State Government, the non-academic staff unions of the institution, comprising of National Association of Academic Technologies (NATS), Non-Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities(SSANU) are insisting that unless their allowances from 2009 to April 2016 are paid, they would not resume work. ASUU has also declared a ‘no pay no work’ action, adding that the union was not going to tolerate a kind of selective payment of salaries by the management of the institution for no other reason than to victimise its members. This latest development is coming two weeks after the suspension of about three months old strike action embarked upon by ASUU over back log of issues bordering on promotion, tax relief, implementation of the university law, payment of Earn Academic Allowance, among others. But, in the agreement reached between ASUU and the governing council of the institution that the state government was going to pay 20% of their EAA and three months salaries, of which only the EAA was paid. Arising from the congress meetings of the two unions in Keffi today, ASUU chairman, Dr. Theopholus Lagi said the Union was shocked that some people in the university were selectively paid by the management of the university, after agreeing with the state government that no academic staff of the university would be victimise after the suspension of the strike. Dr. Lagi said, the annoying part of all the matter was that, few selected lecturers, non-academic staff and management staff were paid two months salaries without any explanation to the development. He said when ASUU contacted the management to explain the reason behind the selective payment, they were simply told that "it was a directive from above". “When we met with the Governing Council of the institution and the state government, we signed a non-victimization clause that no lecturer would be punished afterward, but we wandered why it turn out to be so. “To us, this is a deliberate effort to break our ranks, it's absurd, an insult and a plan to starve the lecturers, and we are not ready to take that from either the management of the institution or the state government.” The ASUU chairman insisted that, until their salaries are paid as agreed, we are not going to class rooms, adding that there are some questions begging for answers from the management in order for the union to know their stand forthwith. Speaking on behalf of the non-academic staff of the university, the chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Adamu Zubairu described as insultive the deliberate breach of agreement by the management of the institution. "We had an agreement with the management and in the agreement; we had a component that in April 2016 our salaries will be paid with the implementation of the earn allowances of our members", he said. Mr. Zubairu gave an estimated figure of over 18. 5 million naira as total sum of the unions allowances from 2006 to April 2016, saying that, if the management had paid their allowances on installments, the strike would not have come up by now. He said, the non-academic staff unions of the university would not go for any other option or negotiation if their allowances are not paid. The Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Jamil Zakari who confirmed this to NSUK Guide/CampusWatch, said that the management was doing its best to get money from the state government, assuring that, ones that was done; they would receive "alerts" of their entitlements. He appealed to the unions to consider the negative impact of strike, as such would affect a lot of things in the university. Mr. Zakari noted that, now that academic activities have fully taken off after a prolonged strike, embarking on another strike by ASUU and non-academic staff would be disastrous. "That is why effort is on by the management to settle the matter ones and for all in order not to disrupt academic activities", he said. Our reporters gathered that, academic activities was yet to fully take off as some of the lecturers are still not willing to teach but many students were seen loitering around the campus. Some of those who spoke to our reporters on the condition of anonymity said, it will be difficult for any lecturer to resume work without salaries for three months. "We are hungry, some of us have a lot of responsibilities to meet, aside from our personal needs and it seems nobody is willing to understand our situation." "Our stomachs are empty, we are frustrated and so, it will be difficult for us to go back to classrooms if our salaries are not paid", they said. Further checks by our correspondents revealed that, some Departments in the Faculties of Administration, Natural and Applied and Social Sciences have released their tables with intense lectures and assignments to students. But with this latest developments, both academic and non-academic activities have come to a screeching halt. www.divineloveudorji..com/2016/06/2weeks-after-strike-ASUU-non-academic.html ©2016 NSUK Guide/CampusWatch |

One Colonel Hillary of the Nigerian Army probably forgot that military rule ended in Nigeria in 1999; or maybe he imagined himself 007 acting in one of James Bonds blockbusters, where he is licensed to kill. The Colonel is now wide awake and reality has dawned on him as he is all over the place pleading that he should be forgiven for brazenly battering and infringing on the rights of a final year Law student in Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Annunihu Bethel Chiagoziem. Bethel's offence was his kind request for the military officer to park his car well, so that his can be accommodated at the packing space in front of Diamond Bank Gwarimpa, Abuja, on May 18, 2 016 in company of his sister-in-law for a transaction. The Colonel despite that he parked his Toyota Camry diagonally, blocking the remaining three spaces, refused to adjust. Not in the mood to exchange words with him, Bethel said he decided to "squeeze" his car into the remaining "little parking" space. "To my surprise, after parking my car at the little space left he said I should remove my car so that he can park his own at the exact same position I just parked. "This was the same person who turned down my earlier plea to park well so that both cars can be accommodated", Bethel wrote in a Police statement. Trouble began when Bethel due to the busy road couldn't repark his vehicle. Secondly, he wondered why the soldier, who was not in his uniform, would want to park at the same place he just parked after rebuffing his earlier appeal to the soldier to park his own car well so that both cars and even one more can be accommodated. This action irked the Colonel as he ordered his details to handcuff the NSUK student. The NSUK law student refused to be taken away fearing that he was being abducted since the soldier was not in his uniform. He called the attention of the security officers manning the bank but they turned blind eyes. While Bethel was in handcuff, the Colonel brought out Pistol from his car and hit him (Bethel) severally as he wreathed in agony. Bethel was kicked and assaulted by the Colonel and his accomplices, sustaining several bruises and broken bones in the process. Colonel Hillary capped his action by levelling the deadly Pistol on the forehead of the student threatening to kill him. It was then that the bank manager, disturbed by the commotion in front of his bank's premises, came to save Bethel from an impending death. The intervention of the Bank Manager and one Barrister Seun, was timely as the red eye soldier had corked his gun, ready to click the trigger while the gun's nozzle was starring Bethel in the face as bewildered crowd watched anticipating a blast that will silence the handcuffed man. Bethel must have said his last prayer when his "saving grace" came. The good Samaritans pleaded with the soldier to uncuff the law student. By then Bethel had been beaten black and blue as his bruised face and entire body streamed of blood. Sensing that he may have bitten more than he can chew, the Colonel entered his car and zoomed off. But Bethel had bravely copied the number plate of his vehicle and other necessary identification. As he rose from where the Colonel left him for dead, he headed to the nearest Police Station in Gwarimpa and lodged his case, after getting himself examined at the hospital. He has also reported the case to the National Human Rights Commission and the Defence Headquarters. In a matter of days, Colonel Hillary was summoned from his base in Calabar to face disciplinary action at Defence Headquarters. He has since been frequenting the family house of his victim begging for forgiveness, a plea the family is yet to accept. The case is still raging and the family of Bethel seems determined to make the Colonel pay for his actions. "If you allow him go free, who knows who his next victim will be; he needs to be reminded that being a soldier or anything related to it, is not a license for you to trample on the rights of other Nigerians", said Bethel. www.divineloveudorji..co.ke/2016/05/army-colonel-in-trouble-for-battering.html?m=1

Kunike International School, a private secondary school in Osogbo, Osun State, has said it is offering two of the just rescued chibok girls full scholarship. Part of the statement from the school read; “The management of Kunike International Schools, Osogbo in conjunction with the management of Delta Schools District, in Vancouver, Canada is extending full scholarships (all tuitions and boarding) to the first two Chibok girls – Amina Alli and Serah Luka that were recently rescued from captivity.” You would recall that, Amina Ali was rescued few days ago with her four-month old baby while the second girl, Serah Luka (who chibok parents still claim they don’t know)was rescued shortly after Amina. www.divineloveudorji..co.ke/2016/05/school-in-osun-state-to-offer.html?m=1

A middle aged woman‘s hair was razed by fire in the Yakowa Market of Kafanchan, in Jema‘a Local Government area of Kaduna State, as inflammable substance was sprayed on her hair after plaiting them. The woman who according to an eye witness is a nurse, reportedly came to the market with the highly inflammable substance, which she handed over to the hair dresser to apply them to her hair when she is done plaiting. When the hair dresser finished plaiting the hair, she wanted to burn the tip of the hair in order to make it more beautiful and attractive. Immediately she light the candle she was holding to do so, the whole hair of the nurse caught fire. The nurse became confused and started running for help, while using her hands on the head to try quench the fire, her hands got burnt as she did not succeed. When she ran out of ideas, she fell to the ground where she surrendered herself to fate. She hit her head on the ground and lay there until someone took a wrapper soaked with water and covered her head, that was how the fire was successfully curtailed. After which she was attended to by an orthodox expert in burnt victims. The expert started removing the hair that stuck on her hands, he then applied a substance on her head after peeling the hair. He then took her home for further treatment. www.divineloveudorji..com/2016/05/a-must-read-for-every-woman-how-fire.html |

Written By: Onyedinma Uchechukwu Favour A Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 Student Read Below: Nigeria my dream country filled with great people, both young and old. Blessed with natural and human resources. Mighty amongst all nations of the earth. Oh yea! leaders of this great country turn from your evil ways and embrace peace and unity. Disregard embezzlement and corruption and acknowledge goodwill. Oh my dear country, let's stop the killings and bombing. Be it Fulani Herdsmen, Niger Delta Militias, Boko Haram, MASSOB or IPOB, we are all one. Let us put aside our ethnic and religious differences. Let us all love each other and work together for the good of our country, a country where we all live in peace and harmony! We have existed together for years, lets not allow ethnicity and tribalism tear us apart. Would there really be a time where I would walk around freely without having the fear of being kidnapped? Lets shun kidnapping, armed robbery, prostitution and other wrongs doings. For it will lead to the downfall of this great country. I look forward to a Nigeria where when I write my JAMB and pass I'm certain of getting admission, a nation where I'm certain of graduating from school, when I'm supposed to, without been frightened by strike. A Nigeria where politicians would be humble enough to step down, if they can't achieve their goals and give room for those who can. A Nigeria where, outside our shores we would want to be associated with rather than been called "thieves and fraudsters". A Nigeria where workers are been paid when due, where pensioners are given their pensions and are well taken care of. A Nigeria where the youths are gainfully employed, where it's not all about who you know that matters, but your skills and abilities speaks for you! A Nigeria where every vote counts, every voice is heard, and everyone is secured. A Nigeria where health care services are provided and possibly free and accessible to every citizen. A Nigeria where the law is respected, valued, obeyed and stands for what is right. Where the law defends the innocent and gives the right judgements to the guilty. A Nigeria that is free from bad roads, poor electricity supply, poor living conditions, bad water etc. A Nigeria free from religious and ethnic sentiments, where everyone is free to practice his or her religion and do that which is right. Let us unite and build up our nation, the Nigeria of our dream and the only place we can call home. GOD BLESS NIGERIA AMEN!!!! Cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 |
