PoliticsRe: How Jonathan Awarded $500m Defense Contract To Arthur Eze - SaharaReporters by dumodust(m): 7:17pm On Mar 10, 2015
feedthenation:
Only in Nigeria and corrupt countries will individuals be awarded sensitive defence contracts.

What is the function of the Ministry of Defence or the Nigerian Air Force in providing the necessary equipments needed?

This kind of contract is only given after proper 'due diligence' have been carried out, unfortunately, we don't do such processes in Nigeria.

Little wonder, some individuals are hell-bent on President Jonathan being elected, because they are only there for their own sakes.

It would be appropriate if some individuals here can cross checked the websites of Triax Company Nig Ltd owned by Arthur Eze and asked themselves questions if they can do business with such an organisation.

Now we know why the Boko Haram insurgency have not been curtailed.
boeing handles defense contracts in the US and so do other US companies and these run into billions of dollars. They also build rockets etc for Nasa... an organization cannot supply itself from within and since we do not manufacture much... its a no brainy that companies will handle it. During world war 2, volkwagen, Mercedes were nazi germany contractors and built trucks and tanks... now we have innoson...
I dont think attach helicopters are as cheap as the so called source will make us think... and is he not quoting the same US that refused to sell? huh Even south africa was blocking us... so where else will we get helicopters from and is it a crime to refurbish

How convenient for you that Boko Haram is now a Cameroonian problem. I fear your lies. Just to defend the failures of Jonathan, you are re-writing what is happening right in front of us.

Let me repeat, when Boko Haram rose its ugly head, if Jonathan had fixed it in that last 5yrs, the over 15,000 innocent Nigerians that have died will be alive. And Cameroon will not have to loose any village as well.

FYI, it took 19 days to even accept that the ChibokGirls were abducted. Today Jonathan wants to be praised for offering to build the school.

Competence is far more than wearing military costume.
why dont u enlist, wear the uniform, go to sambissa and see how things are over there.... like football, these operations and outcomes are not math

If he had tackled Boko Haram will there be one to take over a village in Cameroon? As it stands now, Nigerians, Africans and indeed the world are hoping that Nigerians will elect a Leader who is competent enough to fix this mess and stop it from plaguing the world. The World has its hands full, no need adding another from Nigeria.

Things Must Change.
everything is not about politics... these soldiers have been fighting a war, please bear with them and dont bring pdp and apc into the mix

pendy79:
Can't believe the stupidity of sone commentaries I read on this thread.

THE QUESTION TO ASK IS WHY WE WAITED 5YEARS BEFORE WE ACTED?

Chadian Army cannot boast of a tenth of our armoury and a tenth of our military size and strength

What made the Nigerian Army which have recorded great victories against BH in the last 3 weeks seem so useless and cowardly in the fight against BH in the last 5years?

Why did GEJ need an election to act right? More lives and properties would have been saved of we did what we are doing now over 4years ago and some idiots are talking as if those losses doesn't matter.

Never knew dikwa and ngalamboru are cities in Chad not Nigeria for an idio.t to say Chad Army only liberated just 2 cities.

Our Army and our richness is enough to protect us if we had a sincere and focus commander in chief.
before last year, boko haram was the typical terrorist organization that blended with the local population... worldwide, its hard to deal with that without amnesty international crying of genocide. Then they started claiming territories like isis... that means they now have a visible army that can be attacked and lines were defined. Before, when pursued, they could run into cameroon, niger and chad... but since they started causing worries in these countries, their armies joined the fray and right now boko are hemmed in fighting on all fronts... before we didnt have drones and some equipment that recently arrived and months of being blockaded from buying arms... now we do
an example is the mexican-us drug trade and the co-operation between american dea and mexican authorities... you can fight cross border battles alone

LRNZH:
Let me summarise for you. GEJ has underperformed. In a country of 180Million why should we stick with the same guy who has done nothing significant to our lives.

We need to set a precedence with this election so that politicians will know that performance matters. If GMB and APC wins and don't performance as well, we kick the out in 2019. Infact kicking GEJ out in 2015 will make an APC govt stand on its toes so that the same fate doesn't befall them in 2019.

That is the only way Nigeria's democracy can grow to the level we aspire to be.
I agree with you about trying others but it should not be change fir anything available, it should be based on facts and don't be so sure that the kicking out will be sure later in 2019... that we're talking confidently in the midst of sheep doesn't mean the hidden wolves amongst them will allow the same when they have eaten more than half the herd and are in charge

So if these problems started before GEJ we should then absolve the non performing president of all responsiblity going by your post.

Let me educate you. While the power situation has gone worse, refineries remain dead, the Chibok girls are still missing and the Naira is gone haywire, GEJ has taken Nigeria's debt from $21Billion under Yar'adua to $70Billion today. What did he use our money For?

For me, that is enough to query GEJ very hard.

cc: Lalasticlala, Ishilove, Maclatunji, Obinoscopy, OAM4J
nobody's absolving the president, in my view he brought this upon himself by being slow in responding to issues and his media team is wack, his own failure has been recorded and has entered history grin... but it hasn't stopped me from looking at everything without bias
now, I'm just trying to say this old lingo of politicians about providing light etc should be made the focus of discussions... what are the exact plans of the politicians down to the funding and technical aspects? If we dont start insisting and asking, we'll just be duped again for the next 4-8yrs.
so when you hear 'we will provide light', lets focus less on the umbrella opening, broom waving, and chicken flinging grin et al.... lets start challenging them about light, health, housing plans etc. This parties are not arsenal and man utd fan clubs you know?
in the same vein, the refineries have been dead for donkey years...
ask for the chibok girls, I feel sorry for them and their families but we should be realistic... we're in the middle of a war that thousands have died since the chibok girls debacle including soldiers and innocent civilians. Current issues have superceded their rescue, or do we want our soldiers to go hunting for them in that dark boko territory instead of reclaiming territories while more nigerians die. What of those trapped in those areas? Are they not worth rescuing too?
I dont have political affiliations, I prefer to stand aside from the herd and think for myself, we do not need mass hysteric decisions in this 21st century.
my two cents...

I don't think even my 10 year old needs to be lectured on the disadvantages of a mono-economy, nor the fact of life that you'r as good (financially) as what you earn.

You will notice that I keep using the quote “Just because something isn't a lie does not mean that it isn't deceptive.": while your points are not lies, they only tell one side of the story: in some parts, what we refer to as chicanery -- propagated by this administration.

It can be tiring, writing the same things over and over on different threads, that's why I referred you to that other thread.

This thread too is a useful one https://www.nairaland.com/2169324/oil-price-crash-nigeria-top read the commens too, between those 2 threads you will find my train of thoughts.

Excerpts from a user (LRNZH) on that thread:

It will be good to add that, the elections and it's postponement is a big factor too.

As much as you can have a devalued currency even, you can't afford to have a 'free-falling'/epileptic currency --never!

Personally, I do not have any affiliation, or love for either of the parties, nor the candidates; just worried about the economy and it's effect on millions of Nigerians . . . most don't get it yet -- it's about to get very hot!
yeah, the uncertainty of the elections and postponement are contributing too... everything is currently in a lull because of it. The diversification has been a chronic illness since oil cursed us... even most youths want an oil job... who wants to be a farmer? That's the problem...
Our reserves certainly dwindled in this administration and all the politicians in power irrespective of party got their share which makes us all guilty because we were all mute (I remember okonjo iweala rsused alarm intermittently but was ignored) however even if it was 100 billion will still be wasted on shoring up the naia and delaying the inevitable, it will be wiped out in weeks

https://www.nairaland.com/2171815/danger-come-naira-devaluation

P.S. Russia, Iran, Venezuela, are under sanctions and other economic/political constraints. You know you have a problem, when your currency is competing with war torn Ukraine's Hryvnia and Zambia's Kwacha, for worst performing currency. What happened to looking up to the good examples?
Russia (A SUPER POWER) was doing fine before this oil slump engineered by saudi arabia to there own benefit... they are using it to fight shale oil boom, their arch rivals iran, isis (revenue from oil exports) etc in one move while U.S, an ally, benefits because their russian cold war peeps are in trouble... other oil exporting nations are collateral damage while others are enjoying cheap gasoline prices (including U.S too grin, though oil jobs are affected)...
yes, we are hard hit because we are vulnerable and like I said, its because our economy is entirely based on oil exports and is dollar based...
what other reason do you think is responsible? huh
japanese yen used to be devalued in the past for various reasons which included to aid exports by local businesses like sony etc...and they are one of the world super economies.
I dont like this devaluation, its a strain on everybody but the reasons are outside politics and even if apc were incharge, they cant stop it... simple
The answer is to either diversify or pray that our saudi peeps stop flooding the market

If it helps, find out what China did to it's corrupt leaders, and how many hours of stable electricity supply China enjoys.

“Just because something isn't a lie does not mean that it isn't deceptive."
bro stop arguing, he's right... the currency had to be devalued in view of current strains from oil price slump. Its a worldwide phenomenon and on percentage devaluation basis, its even worse in countries like venezuela, russia etc... everybody's swearing for saudi arabia.
Currency exchange is based on demand and supply for a particular currency, exporting more than importing (where u nid to buy dollars) creates a better exchange. Our country and economy is oil driven. Its certainly time to diversify

obviously your knowledge of economics is limited but I will explain to you:
Nigeria is said to be A GROWING economy. ..NOT A DEVELOPED economy....more like you have a child... if the child is growing people will know and tell you that means the child can talk to you , laugh with you, walk etc but that child is growing but not matured ..that child cant cook for you yet etc
so also is a growing economy..it can respond to you ..that is people can invest in it and they will have a return on their investment (ROI)
For instance, There is shopping company called SHOPRITE..five years ago it was only in Lagos but now in many states in Nigeria. Why? because they know the economy can support their business

look at private universiites...so many. Why? because the owners knows the Nigerian economy can support it ....I can go on and on

The point is that a growing economy has potentials that any investor can tap into....investors here are not only big business but even small businesses like a recharge card seller, mini supermarket, one man business services like engineers, builders, bricklayers ,plumbers ,shoemakers etc. so in a growing economy if you have a service or product to sell , you can make some money....just find a skill or business start something it will respond to you. That is a growing economy...
on the other side , the GEJ govt has employed more doctors , nurses and other paramedical than at any other time.... I know a hospital that has been looking for a radiographer for more than a year and cant get one. Why? most are employed by govt.. and few people get to study the course
secondly, most Nigerians cant tap into the economy either because they have no skills or business acumen ..our education is too limited but if you can start something, you wil make some money ..that is the beauty of a growing economy
thank u bro for your common sense... to some people in nigeria, everything is politically coloured and govt must do everything. These are people that are not ready to work...eg most govt workers

These people.... grin
But I take consolation in the fact that you agreed with the bolded. In technology you do more with less.

You see some of you wake up and make loads of noise on this website but in reality you are empty in the skull. A friend from india once told me that in Nigeria there are more butchers in wardcoats than real physicians-but they all have M.B.B.S. If the Nigerian patients know a fraction of their rights many of you would have either stopped practicing and probably go into nollywood, juju music or something. So stop singing the "we-are-fighting-for-the-patient", especially when you want more pay. The patient knows you don't give a fart about him, but sometimes he's not educated enough to know he can send you to jail, when you harm him with your cluelessness and carelessness. He also knows you have no business running his medical tests, recent events in the health sector have enlightened him. grin

Your noise about not recognizing MLS, starts in your bedroom and ends in your bathroom, the Law is more important that everything you represent. When your mass of flesh decays... whenever it wishes to, the law will still be standing aloof, Gerrit?
You say senators were bribed to enact law that has ensured improvement in our Medical Laboratories? our battle ground against HIV and TB? and saved lives? LWKMD, You should consider going part-time in clowning. It could bring in more bucks who knows?. How much were Scientists earning at that time to be able to bribe Senators?.
Is this how NMA bribes senators so they can regulate the native doctors practicing Traditional medicine? grin

My history book teaches me that your pathologists always dissociated themselves from the labs when a patient dies and fingers are pointed towards it. Nigerians sat in Abuja, and decided to make a law regulate it and ensure standards, and in their wisdom gave the mantle of leadership to the "Lab guy" who does all the tests and gets all the blames. Your irresponsible pathologists went home and only came when the Scientists have worked so hard to clean up our national medical laboratories to compete with international standards, and make it respectable. Why should you reap where you have not sowed?

NUC is a generalized regulatory body, they can not effectively regulate specialized courses without special inputs from PCN, MDCN, MLSCN, Nursing council. Your physician NUC BOT chairman will not be their forever. Our LAWS will outlive him.
Blah blah blah blah... if you were that relevant, you wont have time to be ranting about rape and writing this long drivel. All these jobless people who think the business of saving lives is about lobbying and politics. This is what happens when you use sensitive institutions like public hospitals for mass employment... you invite all the dregs in society in. From you write up, it is obvious that you may not have really worked in a hospital. Lab battle ground against hiv and tb?...hahahahaha cheesy... laughable assertion from somewone who I'm sure diesnt know his way to a tb ward.
You are no where near a pathologist both in intellect, knowledge and workload and as far as hospital lab work is concerned, if I'm looking for who's in charge, its not you. You take responsibility? huh When huhThe last time I checked, its only doctors that face panels etc
Stop trying to be what you're not, we're so important that we're the cause of all your problems in your deluded half baked mind... let the raping happily continue grin... we never cum self cheesy

When you people make this statement i laugh. Automation is welcome with open arms, there are more 20,000 tests that can be run in a laboratory,
It will help reduce the Turn-around-time and give the Nigerian Medical lab Scientist time to venture into biomedical research and improve his professional fortunes among the health team, something currently enjoyed other health professionals except him. What we can not wish away is heavy workload in the laboratory.

Despite automation and advances in lab testing, more lab tests have been requested in the last 10 years than in all of the preceding 25 years put together. People are now very much aware about who does the testing, so they go directly given birth to direct access testing/ consumer-ordered tests. We also have Dieticians, Nutritionist, homeopaths, naturopaths and holistic practitioners helping people choose tests that could help them seek alternative cures. The demand is unprecedented, so my friend for at least the next 2 centuries, the demand will ensure that Medical lab Scientists continue to contribute to the health needs of people.

As for the suspension of MLS course in Nigeria, there is a clear Political undertone. Everyone knows Dr Ahmadu Alli is an NMA member and also the chairman of the NUC BOT. Even idiots can see the connection. MLSCN is empowered "to determine the level of knowledge it's practitioners must have before they can practice. Faculty of MLS is not an issues in civilized countries, why should it be so in Nigeria?
University of Minnesota has a Faculty of MLS. http://cahp.umn.edu/mls

Let me also bring it to your notice that Robotics and technology will also take it's toll your jobs too. Telemedicine, Da vinci surgical system and health informatics technology are the future of medicine. We'll be needing only fewer but efficient physicians in years to come. I'd be worried about that if i were you.

http://qz.com/193919/most-of-what-your-doctor-does-a-robot-can-do-better/

http://www.davincisurgery.com/da-vinci-surgery/da-vinci-surgical-system/

http://fortune.com/2012/12/04/technology-will-replace-80-of-what-doctors-do/
whenever a half knowledge quack misses his way and lands on nairaland, you will know. Stop discussing things you know nothing about. Urologists are at the forefront of using and developing the da vinci system and the last time i checked, its a surgeon that still controls and uses the arms of the robot to achieve magnification and precision in cutting and repair in other to avoid errors. Technology is welcome in medicine, we have always embraced it as far as it makes our work easier and will save lives but it can never replace the human brain and diagnosis is currently still deduced from the human brain and will forever be.
and what do you know about telemedicine and whatever? huh all of them are tools just like the robot, they were designed to make work easier. even if it results in employing less doctors, the patient care is the focus.
on the other hand, your fake course that is supposed to be hnd or ond are churning out quacks like rats... and they are all talking like you... because you bribed a few senators to sneak in an obnoxious act not seen any where else in the world, you think Nigerians are impressed with this your empowered to do this and that... thank God the NUC did their research properly and clamped down. the good health of the nigerian citizen is being defended daily against ursurpers like you and some things cant just exist only in Nigeria. in the end, you cant just over emphasize the value of a waec certificate in sieving people to their rightful positions. If a wound grows MRSA. I know it was hospital acquired. Depending on cultures, you can determine where an infection likely came from. There are lots of organisms that can only be carried by humans.

Nigerian hospitals lack basic facilities. Hand sanitizers, gloves. Even water to wash your hands. Let's not pretend like the infection couldn't have been hospital acquired.

I'm not here to argue medical facts.

Dirty wounds have a high chance of infection. I know that. And that is what we are there to prevent. And that is why the kid must have been admitted. Or else he would be home.

Most wounds can be dressed once a day. But wound dressing will only go so far if the infection was so bad.

And the bottom line is that if lasuth handled this matter the way it should have been handled, there wouldn't be any story.

Its that simple.
you dont get my point, I'm not defending lasuth or saying Nigerian hospital hygiene practices and nosocomial infection prevention habits are perfect... I'm saying that blaming nigerian physicians solely for that outcome is nonsense in view of the reasons u gave . Nigerians have made it a habit of judging what they dont understand from our fake reporters in the media. I 've seen patients from india surgical wound infections too but they're making it look like indian govt hospitals dont have issues too. A good big private hospital in nigeria would have handled it well. Ask them how much that was paid in india to get such care and ckmoare it to cost here
maybe all nigerians should start going to india self make person rest

We don't have to get too medical here.

The kid was in the hospital before his wound got infected.

The hospital was supposed to prevent or treat his infection.

If this was done, the mother would not have taken home elsewhere.

The mother had concerns about the foul odor from the wound which was not addressed at LASUTH.

This is enough to be mad about.

We don't have the culture results, so we can't really talk about what organism was grown to make the Indian Docs believe it was hospital acquired.

We need to be more accountable for the things we do or don't. And from our leaders down to the common man, this is not part of our culture.
Even with the best care, that was a dirty ragged wound and there's a 40-50% chance of infection despite the best care...if it was a surgical wound that became subsequently infected, i will understand but not a dog attack wound, not by one dog but several!which other thing will infect it if the patient stays long in the hospital? Infected dirty wounds can have a foul odour and hospital acquired infections are had to treat because they are resistant to most antibiotics except few which may be costly.
Google dirty wounds and infection rate because I don't understand your point. Infections are a problem worldwide and that's how indians market themselves... the way they talk, you will think they can make the boy scarless.
I dont know about lasuth dressing practices but there are rules... unless soaked, once or twice daily dressing is ok. If someone was now negligent with dressing, na their wahala but indians na winch huh... do they have a video canera in nigeria to know where the infection is from? huh

This is not true. It shows how "uneducated" some of our educated Nigerians are. There is no way a wound caused by a dog bite will not have infection even if it is being treated in the best hospitals in d world! Its called a dirty wound with an infectivity rate of greater than 45%. Such wound requires patience on the part of both the doctors and the patient's relatives to heal. I know that our health institutions are far from where we ought to be but we have the best of doctors and nurses in Nigeria. I dont work in LASUTH but i KNOW that the hospital has one of the best doctors and nurses in Africa. Now the INDIANs are smart! They are into medical tourism. They will do anything to "toast" Nigerians to travel to INDIA for treatment. They know that Nigerians dont believe in their health care system and will do anything to get "foreign" treatment so they will say anything to discredit our hospitals. I have seen many Nigerians run back home with several complications from treatments in india.
thank you dear... The way nigerians think, so the dog's mouth is now very clean and I now have to rely on indians to tell me that white is white... hogwash for gullible masses
