richmon74: It's such a pity that in your 15yrs of electrical engineering practice you have always been limited to environments where energy conversions from SOLAR PANELS stay within 100%.
But in my 2 months of renewable energy apprenticeship I av installed 12 of 255w solarworld solar panels at Unity road in Lekki in Lagos (a very easy place to locate in case anyone wants to chexk it our) which is by calculation 3060w and the Outback FM80 charge controller records a Maximun Wattage output from it to be 3654w as shown in the pictures below. Or maybe the charge controller is faulty or I can't read the digits very well.
Maybe I need a better explanation to that readout |

Saipro: The words in bold typeface are offensive. I see no reason for such. If that's how you feel, there are other ways to carry your opinion across without being rude. That's by the way.
I have had access to an analytical lab for years where testing the quality of reagents, solutions, solvents and material was (is still) being conducted. All table water thus far tested contain significant quantities of potassium. Most contain significant quantities of calcium and magnesium. Lots of impurities are to be found in others too. While pottasium in trace quantities is pretty harmless, calcium nor magnesium is. Just saying.
I use distillers and deionizers. Distillation is quite expensive and there is no way Coca-Cola would be able to make Eva water commercially available at that price even if all they did was distil and bottle it, much less label and market. And distilled water tastes .... funny. No one would drink pure distilled water. I am not speculating nor making conjectures. If in doubt, bring any sample of water you so wish and I'll analyse it free of charge for you. All you need do is stand by and watch. And I would produce not only distilled water for you, I would give you any reagent grade type of water you wish.
Having said that, Eva water does indeed contain pretty low quantities of ions compared to most but enough to make it unsuitable for many things. If it works for batteries, fine. I would still not recommend it. For the record, I have used nothing apart from distilled water for batteries. If you can come up with proof of your claims, I believe the entire house would whole-heartedly follow your trends, I inclusive, for Eva water is not only cheaper but readily available. After all, we are here to learn.
I wholly agree with you. Water from the A/C unit is the closest you'll get to distillate as it is actually condensate too (final processing of distilled water before collection). The tubing and hose leading the water outside are often the culprit (if not the collecting container). Occassionally, you might find the cooling coils are to be faulted. Was just going through this old post on the argument on use of bottled water vs. Distilled water. Please there are companies that bottle and sell distilled water. Use distilled water for flooded batteries for longer life. Please see product below bought here in Jos sold in 1litre containers. Treat your batteries well and they will treat you well and last a long useful life

Glory12345: Actually this is my first post on nairaland,I'm a comment reader and a post reader and I have observed how people do things here and I feel I should share my story, please don't criticise me or anything, I just need your help or advise, and please do read carefully to understand, and i am also sorry if i dont type this well,i'm not much of a writer. Thanks in advance
There's this guy I met at 3chub Ikeja,I actually went to ask if there was any standard rechargeable fan because i have been scammed alot by all these "fairly used" rechargeable fan,so i decided to buy a new one because they sell home appliances there, even though people say fairly used items are better which I chose to decline because this is 2016,and this buhari regime doesnt accomodate an extravagant spending.
I work in Lagos but I stay in mowe, and the electricity there isn't too good so that's why I'm getting the fan so even when the gen is off,i would have an alternative,so when I got to the store, the sales ambassadors offered me different brand rechargeable fan,but i later got a syinix rechargeable fan, because I was impressed with the number of months the warranty covers so I purchased it with my ATM card since I just came to inquire and not buy and I was cashless,I had to just use the POS *I'm only explaining all if these to give you a clearer understanding of the issue on floor*
After purchasing the fan, there was this guy that came to buy a gas cooker and we happened to meet and we both exchanged contacts with eachother and few months later we developed feelings and we had a relationship and we were doing the normal relationship vibe, until this week,he started acting up because I said no sex until marriage...he's a very nice person anyway,he helped me in so many ways(advices, financially, physically) but just because I said no sex until marriage,he's acting up already, although I have my reasons for abstaining until marriage anyway but my story is sad,and I don't know who to tell and I feel more comfortable telling people online because someone that knows me physically might not say the truth to me,because they don't want to hurt me,please I need matured comments even if it will hurt, just tell me
Although we aren't kids, but I'm just troubled because I love him a lot and I don't know what to do.
I'm a loner right now please help me with your number |

Braaad: Thanks @kiekie1 for reminding me...I have been trying to upload the images but i think the spam bot is preventing me from posting. It is a 1KW set up. Voc of each panel is 45v. (my system has 4 nos 200AH battery connected for 24v). It rains here most of the time and some days I get 260w at the CC (I know it will be better after the rain). Panels are connected in parallel. the other 5 panels i hope to get soon will be mounted on the other side of the roof. Then it will be in series with this present array for a new 48v system I hope to acquire later.
I think the installation set up is lovely. The installation guys did a perfect job...what do you think? Nice job. please can you post pictures of tour internal setup? |

GeorgeD1: iLoveTheSun, the bolded couldn't be more true. and, personally, that was the motivation behind my solar initiative from day one. i always thought to myself, "if i can spend 3 million and above to buy a car that takes me from point a to point b and on a good day i only get to spend at most 1 hour, two hours or even three hours in that car, why then shouldn't i spend an equivalent amount to make my home comfortable to live in? a house i spend over eight to twelve hours in everyday?" for me, it just didn't make sense riding a car fitted with ac and being comfortable for one hour only to arrive home, park that same car and you enter into a house with no lights, no fan, waiting for when phcn will restore public power or on the alternative going to struggle with a fuel guzzling generator when you could have all this with the flick of a switch. so, suddenly solar began to make more sense to me, regardless of the amount i was spending to put those 40 panels on my roof. wow please can you post pics of your set up? Really impressive |

Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DUNKA(m): 6:58pm On Aug 27, 2016 |
JohnKester: From my personal experience, the voltage displayed by the CC and Inverters are always slightly higher than that in the Trimetric 2030. This is understandable as the CC will measure whatever power is generated by the solar array as it flows through it to the batteries. The trimetric 2030 on the other hand measures what goes in and also what goes out. What is registered is what actually goes into the batteries after deducting what is used to power the loads being run simultaneously while charging. For this reason, you will notice that the amps registered by the CC as inflow is always higher than what is measured by the trimetric 2030 as inflow.
In terms of accuracy, the trimetric is more accurate since it is capable of monitoring both inflow and outflow. Moreover, it is programmed for a specific type of battery and the specific capacity of your battery bank. The CC on the other hand, can only be indicative since it is designed with consideration for all types of batteries and chemistry, as well as whatever battery bank it is connected. As is well known, the flooded batteries, gel or even agm batteries neither charge no discharge at the same rate. This alone has rendered the accuracy of the displayed statistics marginally unreliable. Also from experience, any inaccuracies observed would definitely be as a result of the inaccurate data feed into the device in the process of programming. In addition, all things being equal, the shorter the distance between the trimetric and the battery bank, the more accurate the reading.
For those who live completely off-grid, like I do, the trimetric 2030 is highly recommended as it would eliminate guesswork regarding the state of charge of your battery bank. It will also thus help elongate the lifespan of your battery bank.
Cheers Thanks a million. Yes totally on point by The readings I am seeing. |

Barezzi: There's a thread in here on stringing ur panels to at-least twice the battery voltage. So you should have 2 panels in series or at most 3, whilst ensuring the Voc stays around 100Vdc...

GeorgeD1: skalamanga,
going back to my earlier example above, it even gets better when you think of solar as a means of continuos power supply and not just like a generator which you start and stop every now and then. let's say you have a solar power system which supplies you steady power during the day and a back-up system that supplies you power all through the night, the difference between solar and generators becomes just staggering! if i were to run my generator on a 24hr (or minimum of 12hrs) basis like i was using an inverter, here's what we'll be talking about:
let's rewind: 30ltrs in 1 wk of roughly 3 hrs use daily becomes: 40 litres in 12hrs or 80litrs in 24hrs. we will stick with the 12hrs minimum use option. 40ltr/day becomes 1,200 litres/month at the present pump price of 65naira/ltr, this becomes: 1,200*65= 78,000 naira per month. in a year that amounts to: 78000*12 = 936,000 naira per year assuming pump price remains the same (which will be virtually impossible), in 25yrs, this becomes:
936,000*25 = 23,400,000 naira.
here it is! if you were to run a 5ka petrol generator for at least 12hrs everyday, you'll end up spending about 23.4 million naira in 25yrs at the present pump price but as we all know, the pump price can never remain the same over that long a period. now the big one: if you were to run that same generator for 24hrs everyday (which you can achieve with a solar power system) you will end up spending 2 times that amount in 25yrs:
46,800,000 naira!
for less than one-tenth of this amount, you can install a solar power system that gives you trouble free operation for over 25yrs!
now, who still says solar is expensive?

bravolad: This is definitely fake. It's amazing that you deliberately decided to become a victim of fake tinted glass permit with all the information & sensitization on this forum regarding the process for tinted glass permit. Part of the reason share experiences is to educate other intending users of such service and equip them with firsthand information so they can be better guided when applying for such services.
For sure, police officers at the various check points will happily prey & feed on you. No two ways about it. By the time you call the number given to you by those who extorted you, the number will be unavailable.
Giving the porous nature of permit issuance and the multiplication of signatures by the police and in order to avoid the proliferation of signatures on the tinted glass permit the NPF high command decided to centralize the process as well as the signature (emphasis mine). The permit is signed by the CP FEDOPS for the IGP & no other officer is allowed to co-sign it.
In your best interest, start a new process of obtaining the tint permit with the right channel already detailed herein & follow through to the end.
