Good day. In the United States where I live they recommend that you have a generator when you are off grid. If you maintain a normal life style there are times in the year where the sun is not sufficient. For me November to February and again during the rainy season. You will break out the generator once every two weeks.
The cell has started to come back. I will or have upload video two and then do video three. The US Battery is different from the Trojan. I got it 18 months ago. It uses much less water and I don't seem to experience the same problems. But then the Trojans where more abused too.

I have had the same experience with my batteries multiple times. It happens the same time every. When I am away and Nepa goes with me. You can't be off grid and not have a generator, you will damage your batteries.
Run an equalization charge twice the first week and then every week for a month. Make sure you fully charge your batteries every day. They will recover. Mine took much longer this time than the last.
I am doing a video on it. You will see it on my YouTube channel next week.

Oga Chris Goodmorning watched your YouTube videos and needed clarification on the issue if Generator set when offgrid. If one has sufficient panels will one still need a gen set? Abi had large array so why would he still a genset since he is in imploring and sunlight is not a problem? It seems the Trojans are not what they used to be or we have a specific problem with those been supplied. Have you been able to recover the faulty cell you tried rejuvenating? Is the US battery in your bank ever had the same issue that you are experiencing with the Trojans ?

TRUTH OF THE MATTER BETWEEN IG YUSUF and GRACE 400LEVEL STUDENT OF ENGLISH DEPT IBBU LAPAI.
On the 20-02-2017 Dr. Abayya who came on sabbatical from ABU Zaria who happen to be IG Yusuf's Ph.D major supervisor conducted a test for 400level students of English dept which he split d class into two and told IG Yusuf to supervise one of the classes. Grace and one student known as pastor samuel were caught cheating and his script was torn off as directed by Dr. Abayya . Grace later went to IG's office dat she want to see him but he declined that he is busy probably she shuld check back later or tomorrow and she left. On Tuesday she called him on phone dat it is an important issue she wants to tell him and he said ok. Later Grace called back again and he told her he is busy in d office, IG has just been elevated from deptal exam officer to faculty exam officer and so he had to update and brief d new deptal exam officer so they were their upto 10:30pm and as he was about to close to go home Grace still called and he told her it was late so she should meet him in d office d next day but she still insisted d issues is very important so since will be going home she will come and wait for him at LOWCUST JUNCTION close to INEC office in lapai bye pass that link to Agaie road. On approaching there he sighted her standing and immediately he stop Grace and other four guys entered d car with sophisticated weapons asked him to keep driving down to Grace's house. on reaching d house, they took him to a room and told him GOD DON CATCH U TODAY in pigeon english. Dey Asked him to pull of his shirt and remain wit boxer gave him mop to mop d room and gave him water Mellon to take but he refused. They cut his hand with a knife to show dia criousness,From that moment he followed any instruction giving to him. There gang leader known as AKA Liyas held him and pulled his boxer down and took picture with him and d Grace was recording d video. There after Grace told him that pastor Samuel's script dat he tore he will pay it. They wrote something on paper and asked him to read it and it was recorded and videod. He was made to write an undertaking as follows: Grace must graduate this year along with her two female and two male friends and he must write her project. Items collected from him include: D money in his pocket, ATM cards, 2 of his phones. They kept him hostage till 5a.m of Wednesday being 22-02-2017 b4 he was released to go. However, he was warned never to involve police and if he did his life was in danger. He however informed his DEAN, his dean told him to be patient since its all about life and death dat he Dean will look for Grace for fact findings. Two hours later three members of the gang followed him to his office again at University to warn and remind him of the undertaking he wrote. It's been a while.
Good to see a lot of good stuff happening in this thread.
Obviously this is one thread that spells the future. I have tried to scan through most of the pages though unable to get into details. I've come across some very interesting discussions and some very funny ones as well. Some of them which i feel like responding to but when i look at the date i just think the sleeping do should lie.

The most interesting thing to me is that many have become renewable energy owners through this thread. God bless the founding fathers.
I'll be making my contributions as usual very soon and introducing new products as time goes on.

Over the years we've experimented on various designs and materials and i think its time to share the knowledge with the great people of this thread.

Please enjoy the job we did last week in Port Harcourt. The customer has three phase into the house to power his Central AC systems and a single phase to power pumps, hot water heaters etc. The house has no tank, water is produced on demand by a pump. He need to have power 24/7.
He had spent two million Naira on Deka batteries and we did not think he should feed his Sukham these batteries for them to get destroyed.

So the first phase was to handle all the loads that were on a single phase using a Victron Quattro. A peak of 4000 watts. Use the gen as back up for when PHCN was absent or batteries fell below a programmed threshold.

The result is a happy customer.

Installed 8 units of J185 Trojans in August 2014, yesterday had to retire 4 of them. 3 were reading below 10v on on load. Despite regular maintenance and equalisation.
How is it on the other side?.

Abu wow really surprised at this. The all powerful Trojans which have become industry standard are known to take various forms of Abuse and still work fine.

If there is no known factory defect for the failure of your Trojans I think you should look at the inverter you are using. When I was using my Axpert inverter my batteries were not being fully charged and I could not retain charge cycle use of my 8 mercury tubular flooded batteries but since I moved to the Outback inverter I am yet to get a Low Battery cut off trigger.

Unfortunately most of the inverters that are not pro, out there do not go through a true 3/4 stage charging process thereby killing off batteries in a short while.

To change out batteries are very expensive so try using a desulphator to see if they can be revived before you change them out Chris81964 has done some videos on his company site of reviving dead batteries using a desulphator so you can check this out to see if it helps.

It took me some time to acquire all the items to upgrade to SOLAR, all because of long throat i have.

It is about three days old and the harmattan haze has not helped but was able to get a maximum of 2480watts sometime, giving me the hope that without the haze, better days are ahead.

People like you ask for quality and expect to buy them with your peanut

Solar Depot has a name and reputation, not had issues since buying from dem and I don't think if u have any issues with products they market, they cannot amicably resolve it with you.


NB: I have no personal interest in solar depot Nigeria, I am not related to OgunMoses and has never met him face to face.

Thank you for the nice words.

The battery equalizer ensures that the batteries are within 0.2v of one another. It is the only battery equalizer that I have installed that really works. Before I installed it, the differences between my battery voltages is as much as 2.5v at times. During the absorb charging stage, the weakest battery will quickly rise to 15.6v while the strongest is still at 13.1v. All the other batteries will have various values in between the two extremes. This rapid increase in voltage of the weakest battery raise the array average disproportionally and prevent the other batteries from charging properly. This issue was effectively resolved by the battery equalizer and my batteries are now always within 0.2v of one another.

The desulphator is used to desulphate my SMF AGM batteries. The AGM batteries are 4years old and are beginning to to show signs of old age.

For the Mercury 220AH batteries, I set absorb=57.8V, float=54.4V and equalize=62V. The Mercury MC5048E Inverter cannot handle battery voltages above 58V, so I was forced to set the absorb voltage slightly below that limit.

I always disconnect the Mercury batteries from the Inverter before triggering equalization from the Charge Controller.

Very bad market for NEPA indeed. I have been partially off grid for more than a year. I use PHCN once in a while when the weather is bad and at nights when I need Aircon..

The PHCN technicians and marketers have been to my house three times in the last nine months to investigate me -they thought I bypassed the Meter. Before I went partially off grid, I buy about N20,000.00 worth of electricity every month (before the February tariff increase). But since October 2015 when I installed my solar gears, I have bought only N45,000.00 electricity from PHCN.

I have also not switched on generator in the last 14months.
