Business / Re: Ngozi: Islamic Banking Is Ok by dvirgin(m): 10:03pm On Jul 07, 2011
Hmmmn, @Op permit me 2 gradually enlighten u on d implication of Islamic bankin on d Nigerian nation.
First, most countries in d middle east sims 2 b cut off 4rm Nigeria Economically, because of its Economic relationship wit America. Knowingfully well dat America becos of its secularism Ideology is automatically an enemy wit d strict(all encompassing) Religious ideology of d Middle East.
Thus Nigeria, having Economic alliance wit America, automatically becomes an Enemy too.
Dis is evidenced in d recent bombings in Nigeria credited 2 d Al-qaeda, and boko haram sect.
D aim dere4 is 2 disuade Nigeria 4rm d secularity ideology n turn 2 d more ideal(accordin 2 Islam) community or State, where everytin is regulated by Religion.
Different means re bin put in place by d different groups in Islam 2 mk deir views known, while some resulted 2 d eva physical/militant Jihad, odas use d political or diplomatic method of Jihad.
Diz methods re all wit Religious convictions dat d work of Allah(SWT) is bin carried out,
D fact is Islamic Law is incompatible wit modern Law n Civilisation, becos of its Rigid nature and its refusal 2 bow 2 d Laws of d State in which d Religion is operatin.
Becos xtianity, sims more liberal n Flexible it tends 2 b more compatible wit international law n d secularism Ideology, hence all Economic n political ideology dat stems 4rm secularism tends 2 b in favour of xtianity.
Dis analysis given above is nt in any way intended 2 oppose Islam, bt d problem wit Muslims worldwide, is dat dey fail 2 undastand dat d state has gradually liberated itself 4rm d chains of Religion, dat d state n Religion nw operate as seperate entities, n dat d fact dat state still gives room 4 its citizens 2 practice deir Religion, doesn't mean d state shud b subjected 2 Religious Laws,
Nigeria as a nation has toled d lyn of Secularisation n globalisation, dis is evident in d Nigerian constitution.
Tho' d Nigerian constitution permits its citizenry 2 practice deir Religion @ will, it doesn't hold any Religious ideology above d oda.
Coming down 2 d subject @ hand, D bankin system dat has bin operation in Nigeria is nt a religious bankin system, bt rada a secular system, which all citizens regardless of Religion can easily access without sentiments, bt muslims sees it as a xtian system of bankin becos, xtianity can n able 2 adapt 2 it easily,
Hence d clamour 4 Islamic bankin which is spearheaded by SANUSI usin his office,
Wot does Islamic bankin aim 2 achieve?
A. a system of bankin, which stems 4rm d quranic injunction on treasury n loans(it is thus an imposition of one Religious belief on odas)
B. An attempt 2 Islamise Nigeria, by imposin d Islamic economic laws on its citizens.
C. Make Nigeria a potential enemy 2 America and a friend 2 oda Islamic nations(becos dis system may nt b compatible 2 wit secularism ideology of America)
D. To further congetise d Islamic bid 2 hold on 2 powa, no matta wot,

Religion / Re: What Is Religion ? by dvirgin(m): 9:21am On Nov 14, 2010
-DEFINITION-Religion is an expression of faith and belief; the conscious and subconscious response to the ultimate source of existence. This source of existence refers to God in whichever name or language,
-Belief is inherent in Religion-
-if we should subject Religion solely to logical reasoning, it will naturally crumble still faith and reason cannot be overemphasized in Religion.-
-Religion to some extent cannot be said to be pervasive in politics. Though Religion @ some point in world history controlled the political system of the world. Today, politics is now what is pervasive in Religion.

Politics / Re: Uniben Staff And Students Reject Ibori As Convocation Speaker by dvirgin(m): 6:19am On Nov 18, 2009
mikesleek:

The University of Benin has begun a new search for another speaker for its convocation lecture after the Acting Vice Chancellor was overwhelmed by protests from staff, students and alumni after Saharareporters exposed his plan to give the honour to the embattled former Delta State Governor James Ibori.

In anticipation of victory by the Federal High Court in Asaba to quash money-laundering charges against the former governor, Professor Emmanuel Kubeyinje, an Itsekiri from Delta State, had been contacted to help provide a platform for Ibori to relaunch himself. The Delta State government was also backing lavish parties to be held in celebration of Ibori's "victory."

Several petitions by civil society groups however forced the troubled Federal High Court judge in Asaba, Marcel Awokulehin, to postpone his ruling.  Saharareporters had reported that the judgment would be favorable to Ibori.   Awokulehin disappointed James bori and his throng of supporters when he refused to give the judgement that would have quashed the 170-count charge of graft, money laundering and abuse of office proffered against Ibori at the court, which had been created specifically for Ibori.

Working with the recently retired Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Ibori had successfully chosen Awokulehin and the EFCC prosecutor, Ibrahim Isyaku (SAN) to "prosecute" him at the Federal High Court in Asaba in a building purchased and “donated” to the Federal High Court by the Delta State government.

The court building, which is in the residential area of the GRA in Asaba, ought to have been located in Warri. The Delta state government bought the building from a former Ibori special assistant and current Commissioner for Land and Surveys in the state, Barrister Raymond Guana.  Most officials of the current Delta State cabinet, including the governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan and his deputy, Professor Utuama were indicted in the 170-count charge being tried by the Asaba judge.

In the University of Benin's search for a new speaker, the institution has now reached out to the former governor of Edo state, Oyegun and the Lagos state governor, Babatunde Fashola.

Ibori graduated from the University of Benin in 1986 with a third class in Economics and Statistics. His academic records were destroyed in a mysterious fire that gutted the records office in UNIBEN in the late 1990s.

Analysts say Professor Kubeyinje's reputation may have taken a serious hit, as he should have been more discerning in his consideration of the discredited and indicted ex-convict, who has become a byword for corruption and official looting in Nigeria, as the respected institution's convocation speaker.

@ibelab, though theology and religion are closely related they are not the the same.
While religion deals on world religions and philosophies, theology deals on a particular religion and its belief. I'm studying religions-philosophy and theology.

kech:

At OP, like I said earlier. Even though I think you should partly be blamed, I know how the Naija education system is like so I won't judge you. I just think it's high time Naija youths stand up for what they really want. We just can't keep sitting on our butts and blaming everything on the system. Granted, the system is messed up, but what are u doing to help yourself? What is your ambition? What's your plan? Do you even have one? My worry with you OP is not the fact that you are asking where u can work with your degree but that you don't even know what you want to do. Ok, you said Religion was not your choice, it was just given to you. Fine. My question is, What was it you wanted to study before u were given Religion? What do you want to do? If you can answer these questions then you have solved half of your problem. The other part will then be looking for ways to make sure it comes to pass. Either by trying to switch courses if u are still in school or getting back-up training to supplement your degree if you are out of school. If you want to follow some people's advice and "work" your way into banks and the likes of them with your degree as is, then be my guest. It's your life. BUT MY QUESTION IS!! What is it you are going to tell them you want to work as? Are you just going to tell them "Put me anywhere you think my Religion degree will fit"? That is my problem with your question!! What is it you want to do?! Do you want to be an accountant? An administrator? Business manager? Clerk? What?! angry Don't just throw your dice up in the air and leave it to fate. Stand for something or you'll fall for anything. Peace out.

PS: When you have figured out what it is you are interested in, People can then suggest options on how to go about it. Finally, I want you to realize that even though people have been succesful in carreers different from what they studied, it will be foolhardy for u to jump on their bandwagon because of that. Your destinies are not the same. Try all you can to become what you want and if in the course of it you end up being successful in something else, all fine and good! The point still is, you finally ended up where you did because of the foundation you laid for yourself and not because you were trying to imitate others.
@kech, i think i posted this b4, i actually wanted to do theatre arts which i was offered, the only problem is that i dont have the major requirement (literature), And thats how i found myself in religion.
