I may get flak for this, but despite my recent threads, I am a relatively new atheist.
This is how it went down. One day I went to a library and saw a book about a gnostic Jesus. I read a few pages and was disturbed. I put the book back and put it out of my mind. Years later, I saw the book and decided to read it through, I figured the truth stands up to every challenge against it. So I read the book and came out stunned. The book used texts from the bible and gnostic gospels to propose a new Jesus of myth. I could not sleep as similarities between Jesus and pagan gods were pointed out. After a while I dismissed the book as bull sh!t because they had no proof, if u guess the next question to pop into my mind at this stage you deserve a no-prize. How did I know the bible was true?
The pastor gave the standard all inspirred timothy e.t.c. But, I thought...you can't use the bible to prove itself!!!
So i went to Carm.org and was satisfied for a while, till i decided to check the atheists POV. I was confused and asked Jesus to reveal himself to me with a small sign that was clear and unambigious* . I got zip, nil nada zero nothing. I read the bible and saw contradictions between passages and between the bible and reality. I concluded (after reading s'more) that if there was a god that loved me, he would have at least sent me the sign to keep@me in the faith and the errors in the bible were to big to ignore. I deconverted at that point. I engaged in debates with christians to see if i eould becum chrissie again but, my atheism was only rreinforced.
