PoliticsFRSC Disowns Traffic Offender Arrested By Governor Fayose. by Easy023(op): 6:55pm On Oct 17, 2015
The Ekiti State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission has issued a disclaimer, saying a traffic offender, Adeola Alabi, arrested by Governor Ayo Fayose on Friday was not its staff.
Mr. Alabi, earlier identified as an FRSC operative, was accosted and arrested by Mr. Fayose for taking a wrong lane while trying to avoid a failed part of the road in Ikere-Ekiti.
However the Ekiti Command of the road safety agency said on Saturday that its records showed Mr. Alabi was not its staff.
“The Ekiti Command of FRSC , through the Sector Commander, Ekiti State Command, Mr Stanley Chinedum , wishes to appreciate His Excellency Governor Ayodele Fayose for accosting and eventually arresting a road traffic offender on 15th October, 2015 along Ikere Road Ado Ekiti,” the statement said.
“We want to place on record, that the (traffic) offender arrested by the Executive Governor of Ekiti state, His Excellency, Ayodele Fayose, the said Mr Adeola Alabi, is not a staff of Federal Road Safety Commission.
The statement explained that Mr. Alabi could be an impostor or a dismissed operative who was still using FRSC sticker.
“We wish to place on record that the said traffic offender, from all available records, is not a staff of FRSC as a regular marshal or a volunteer special marshal.
“The said offender could be an impersonator or rather a dismissed special marshal who is still using old sticker of special marshals.
“FRSC is noted for discipline and exemplary behavior with adequate machinery to check excesses and abuses. We therefore always inculcate in staff at all times the necessity to obey all traffic rules while on official duties and even on private engagements.”
Also reacting to the matter, the Head of Media Relations and Strategy at the FRSC headquarters, Bisi Kazeem, said on hearing the report , the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, a disciplinarian , who he said has zero tolerance for indiscipline, ordered an investigation.
“To our surprise, it was found out that the said traffic offender was not in the service of the corps either as a regular or special marshal.
“Nevertheless, he was full of praises for the Governor for arresting a traffic offender and appeal to other senior government officials to emulate this rare deed as Road safety is everybody’s business.”
Governor Fayose had on Friday arrested Mr. Alabi and ordered that his vehicle be seized and taken to the office of the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency in Ado Ekiti, with a directive that the driver be booked for all applicable fines.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, was involved in another drama on Thursday when he arrested an officer of the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) in Ikere Ekiti for driving against traffic.
Fayose personally arrested the FRSC officer while on his way to the flag off of dualization of the Ado-Ikere-Ondo State boundary road and commissioning of some projects in Ikere town as part of activities marking the first anniversary of his administration.
The FRSC officer whose name was given as Adeola Alabi left the bad portion of the road for the other lane and drove against traffic to avoid potholes and reconnect the lane he was before.
The incident which happened at Sawmill area of Ikere Ekiti caused traffic snarl as some residents came out to watch the drama.
Alabi’s action infuriated Fayose who ordered security operatives in his convoy to ensure the road safety officer was apprehended.
After he was arrested, Alabi prostrated before Fayose, begging the governor to have mercy on him.
The governor did not listen to his pleas, maintaining that law must take its course.
Fayose ordered that the Peugeot 505 Saloon car driven by Alabi should be seized and taken to the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency (EKSTMA) yard.
The culprit is expected to cough out N50,000 as fine for driving against traffic.

PoliticsWidow Of Falae’s Son Sues Associated Airline Over Crash. by Easy023(op): 7:41pm On Oct 14, 2015
The legal hostility between the widow of Deji Falae, son of Chief Olu Falae, and Associated Airline rages on in the court room.
The younger Falae died in the ill fated Associated Airline crash in Lagos two years ago.
Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency is the second defendant in the suit.
The widow Ese Lynn Falae and her three children are demanding for compensation in the sum of N245.5million which they calculated their bread winner would have made in 15 years, less living expenses, cash discount and the statutory limit of One hundred thousand Dollars or in the alternative the sums of N113,277,750,£160,740 and $19,000.
A thirty-seven paragraph statement of claim has been filed before a Federal High Court in Lagos south west Nigeria on her behalf and her three children, Ayomide, a 15 year old SSS 2 student at Day Waterman College Abeokuta, Miss Omowonuola Falae 13,the only daughter, also a JSS3 student in the same college and Oreoluwa ,a 7 year old primary three pupil at Corona School,Lagos
The affidavit filed by Olajide Oyewole says that Deji Falae was born on 9th of October,1970 and was aged 42 at the time of his death. He was a Legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar. In 2013, at the time of his death, he was serving as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo state, Nigeria.
Until his death, he also operated a law firm under the name and style of Ayodeji Falae and company. He also carried on the business of building and construction under the name West -One Resources Limited.
With the consent of Associated Aviation Nigeria Limited he was a passenger on board the defendant’s Flight 361 that took off on 3 October, 2013 from Murtala Mohammed International Airport,Lagos to Akure, Ondo State.
As part of the Ondo State Government’s funeral arrangements of the late Olusegun Agagu, former Governor of Ondo state who died on 13th of September,2013.in Lagos, the deceased and some other Ondo state Government Officers were directed by the Governor of Ondo state to support the family of late Agagu for Agagu’s funeral that was scheduled to hold on 4th of October,2013.
On 3rd of October,2013, Deji Falae, along with some Agagu family members,Ondo state Government officials, pall bearers boarded the defendant’s Flight 361 chartered to lift the remains of late Agagu from Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos to Akure Ondo State. At about 09.32hours, and about a minute after take off from the Airport the Aircraft crashed as a result of the wrongful act, neglect or default of the defendants. The deceased died as a result of the crash. As a result of this incident, the plaintiffs being the defendants of the deceased have suffered damages.
The affidavit claimed that as at the time of the death of the deceased,he made about N10million annually from his law firm practice. As a commissioner in Ondo state,he received the sum of N5million annually as employment income. He also made N20million annually from his building and construction business. A total of N8.750million was expended annually by the deceased as his living expenses, He would have made N262.5 million in fifteen years.
The widow averred further that as the bread winner, the deceased until his death paid the rent of a five bedroom duplex at Dolphin Estate Lagos where they lived with him until his untimely death, and since his death the burden of paying the rent has been on her. This wouldn’t have been if the deceased was alive. The deceased would have equally paid the school fees of his children to the completion of their education.
It was the practice of the deceased to pay all expenses of the plaintiffs for at least a five-day vacation outside Nigeria every year.
The plaintiffs also incurred the sum of N2.5million as expenses during the funeral of the deceased carried out on 14th November,2013.which would not have been incurred had the plaintiffs not by their wrongful act, neglect or default caused the death of the deceased. The plaintiffs have also incurred legal practitioners’ fees in the sum of N5million in prosecuting this suit.
However Associated Aviation Nigeria Limited while referring to the suit as gold digging, in a statement of defence supported with written statement on oath by Taiwo Raji, its Chief Operating Officer and filed before the court by the law firm of M.A.Bashua denied almost all the averment of the widow. The company also denied that it was negligent in handling the Aircraft. It said it was not in any way liable to the plaintiffs as claimed in their statement of claim.
In further denial of the claim the Airline averred that there was nothing wrong with the Aircraft at the time of take-off,neither did the Aircraft develop any mechanical faults,as the Aircraft was thoroughly checked prior to take -off.
Consequently, the defendant averred that the plaintiffs are neither experts nor the statutory body responsible for investigating accidents of this nature and there is nothing before the court to show or proof negligence on its part
The Airline further contended that the plaintiffs having not obtained letters of administration cannot claim damages under common law, Fatal Accidents Act 1846 and Fatal Incidents law of Lagos state.
The widow was alleged to have collected agreement forms to receive initial immediate payment of thirty thousand Dollars and promised to return them together with the necessary documentation linking her with the deceased but failed to do so till date. consequently the plaintiffs claim of #219,906,250 amounts to gold digging,
In addition, the defendant further contended that the plaintiffs are not entitled to the reliefs been sought as they are not Administrators of the estate of the alleged late Ayodeji Olaniran Falae..
I therefore urged the court to dismiss the suit with substantial costs,as the suit is frivolous and lacks merit.
Meanwhile, the court has adjourned till 4th of November,2015 for hearing.

CrimeGunmen Kidnap Corps Member, 3 Teachers, Security Man In Rivers. by Easy023(op): 8:15pm On Oct 13, 2015
Unknown gunmen have abducted five persons, including a male serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), three teachers (one a nursing mother) and a security man guarding the school in Rivers State.
According to report, the victims were abducted on Monday at the Government Secondary School, Agba-Ndele, in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.
Ogechi Nwachukwu, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, said the kidnappers spent the night at the corps members' lodge because the NYSC members in the community had abandoned the building due to insecurity.
"Around 10.00 a.m., the kidnappers, armed and numbering about 10, came from the corps members lodge. They first took the security guard identified as Jonathan Woforu, who, then shouted, 'militants, militants'.
"The security guard's shout attracted the attention of everyone. Thereafter, they went after the teachers, who fled alongside the students.
"They were taking away five teachers and the guard, but one teacher was resisting. They then beat him with their guns and went away with the rest.
"Those abducted included the security man, a male corps member, two female teachers, one being a nursing mother and one male teacher," she said.
According to Nwachukwu, the kidnappers, who wore army uniforms with masked faces, took the victims to the nearby Sembrero River from where they zoomed off through a waiting boat.
The state police command confirmed the incident as its spokesperson, DSP
Ahmad Muhammad, said security operatives had intensified efforts to track down the bandits.
"We are doing all it takes to safely rescue the two abducted females, a teacher and youth corps member "he said.

EducationStudents Storm Osun Street Over Schools’ Merger. by Easy023(op): 2:53pm On Oct 05, 2015
Students of Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun on Monday staged a fresh protest over the alleged planned merger of the college with another state owned College of Education in Ilesa.
The students, who were armed with placards with various inscriptions stormed the palace of the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, where people of the community were holding a meeting to deliberate on the alleged plan by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to merge the college with the one in Ilesa.
The students stormed the venue of the meeting where chiefs and other leaders of the town had gathered. It took the organizers some minutes before they were able to calm down the protesting students.
The students warned the governor against going ahead with the plan, saying they would resist the policy with everything they had.
The Secretary of Ila Orangun Community, Mr. Yemi Adeoye, who addressed journalists said the people of the town had resolved that the status of the college should be allowed to remain the way it is.
They said the restructuring would lead to reduction of academic programmes and population of the institution which was established in 1979.
Adeoye said the restructuring would leave the college with just two academic programmes adding that this would affect the economy of the town whose residents depended on the college with 15,000 students for their source of income.
He said, ” It is our humble submission that the present state government is being requested not to change the College of Education at Ila to that of primary and technical education and continuous education centre.
“The status quo should please be allowed to remain. This is very important because of posterity and the generation yet unborn. The blood of Marty, Adepeju Oyedotun whose untimely death precipitated the birth of the college is crying in support of Ila Orangun community.”
Residents of Ila Orangun and Ila Orangun Students Association led by its president, Mr. Rilwan Sulaiman and the Student Union President of the COE, Ila Orangun, Julius Akinleyin, had on Saturday marched round major streets in the town singing anti-government songs based on the rumour that the government had given a directive to governing councils of the colleges to work out the merger of the institutions.
PoliticsFloods Wash Snakes Into Plateau Community. by Easy023(op): 8:59am On Oct 05, 2015
The massive flooding in Plateau have washed snakes from far distances into farms and residences in Pankshin/Kanke/Kannam Federal Constituency, according to Timothy Golu.

Mr. Golu, who represents the area in the House of Representatives, told the News Agency of Nigeria, in Jos on Sunday that “all manner of snakes” had taken over his constituency.

“The floods have pushed snakes into my constituency. They move around openly and snake bites have become very common there.
“As the waters pushed them, some snakes climbed trees; others entered holes while some just held unto any straw . All of them later descended into residences and farms where they have been wreaking havoc,” he said.

He said that the commonest species were black mamba and carpet viper.

He said that the people used to travel to a snake clinic in Zamko, in Langtang Local Government, but there were no more drugs in the facility.
“The drugs are very expensive and purchasing them had been difficult for the proprietor of the clinic because it was always difficult or out rightly impossible for the patients to pay,” he said.

Mr. Golu advised the federal and state governments to take over the production of local drugs to help the generally rural populace that had been the victims of the menace.

He said that farmers were being advised to use hand gloves and rain boots at the farms to minimise the effect of such bites, but lamented that many hardly heed the counsel.

The lawmaker said that some of the victims had often preferred orthodox therapy, but observed that such therapy had its side effects, with some victims succeeding and surviving, while others die.

Mr. Golu asked the federal government to resuscitate the production of anti-snake venom, so as to ensure massive quantities that would be accessible and available to the people.

“The best step will be to get the snakes’ poison from the affected areas, so that the anti-snake venom will work effectively,” he said.
He called for concerted efforts to rid the society of the reptiles.

PoliticsAllegations Of Fraud, Forgery Against Ife Prince Debunked. by Easy023(op): 9:30am On Oct 04, 2015
A n interest group, Ife Concerned Citizens (ICC), has denied the allegation of fraud and forgery against one of the contenders for the stool of Ooni of Ife, Prince Adeyeye Adewusi, describing it as a “calculated and deliberate attempt to smear, malign and assassinate the character of the prince.”
A national daily had reported on Friday that Metropole Interproject Limited (MIL), a company owned by Prince Ogunwusi had been involved in forgery, fraudulent conversion and obtaining the sum of N400m by false from Sijuwade Holdings Limited (SHL), a company owned by the late Ooni, Oba Sijuwade.
According to the report, MIL was commissioned by SHL to develop an estate in Lekki Peninsula Lagos, a task which the former failed to discharge as terms of contract stipulated.
But in a statement signed by the President of ICC, Prince Leke Ijiyode, the group stated that Prince Adewusi has never committed forgery or fraud against any individual or corporate person, noting that the report is the handiwork of fifth columnists who are on the mission to smear the image of the prince, being a frontline contender for the stool of Ooni of Ife.
The group specifically denied the claim of SHL that Prince Adeyeye forged the title document of a land property at Lekki Peninsula, Lagos.
“ Adeyeye was not the author of the purported forged documents. He did not know about its existence until very recently when SHL brought it to his attention,” the group stated.
According to ICC, the project started in 2011 and it has since been completed. The group wonders why the allegation of forgery is being made at this particular time when odds favour Prince Adeyeye to succeed the late Ooni.
The statement reads: “In the joint venture/ business relationship, the late Oba had a stronger bargaining power and position. On most occasions, he simply gave instruction of what was to be done while Adeyeye would go and execute it.
“The project engaged a consultant to process the building permits and other approvals. If the consultant had presented a document in the name of the Joint Venture Partners, it was not with the objective of defrauding Kabiyesi or anyone. The project never instructed anyone to forge any signature.
“Forgery connotes tampering with document to defraud another. A careful review of the facts of this case will show that SHL has not in anyway been defrauded, neither has Prince Adeyeye nor his company (MIL) assumed or converted ownership of the land to his own benefit. Sijuwade Holdings Limited has not lost anything whatsoever. It has gotten all its entitlements under the project.
“The title to the land is still in SHL’sname and MIL still makes recourse to SHL for issuance of title documents to its subscribers. No N400Million or any sum whatsoever is lost or fraudulently converted as the screaming headline suggests.”
The group reiterated that the project was a joint venture between SHL and MIL and there is no forgery or fraud involved in their business relation. The published story is an attempt by fifth columnists to disparage the two families, said Prince Ijiyode.
“However, we have reliably gathered that both Ogunwusi and Sijuwade families have smoothen the rough edges and would be granting press conference to clear the air tomorrow (Monday),” he disclosed.
IslamHajj: Nigerians Won’t Stone Devil Again – Sanusi. by Easy023(op): 6:17pm On Oct 03, 2015
Nigeria’s Amirul Hajj and Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, on Friday night said Nigerians will no longer participate in the stoning of devil ritual, except they get accommodation close to Jamrat, where the exercise will take place.

The Emir’s reaction followed the recent stampede in Saudi Arabia that killed several pilgrims, including about 70 Nigerians.

He also reiterated his earlier position that blacks, particularly Nigerians were not responsible for the stampede.

The Emir, who quoted several verses of the Qur’an, said refusal to perform the stoning of devil ritual does not in any way invalidate one’s pilgrimage.

He said, “During the era of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), he permitted pilgrims who came on camels to stay in Makkah after Arafat, instead of staying in Mina and sleeping at Muzdalifa.

“So, if the Prophet can give such grace to some people, just to protect their animals, why didn’t our scholars educate our people properly to avoid this untoward hardship and death?

“Therefore, it will be part of my recommendation to the Federal Government that, if we cannot get accommodation close to Jamrat where the Arabs reside in Mina, then this year may be the last time we will sleep in Mina and Muzdalifa because we want to stone the devil.

“If one deliberately refuses to perform the stoning of the devil ritual, all he needs to do is just to slaughter a ram. So, if this is the situation, why do we go and suffer and die instead of sacrificing a ram.”

President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday condemned the latest terror attacks in Abuja, Maiduguri and Yola.
In a statement he personally signed, Buhari observed that the Friday attacks in the three cities were apparently timed to coincide with Independence Day celebrations when Nigerians should be rejoicing.
The President commiserated with the families of the dead and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He said he had instructed security forces and other local authorities to maintain extra vigilance to forestall future attacks.
The President said his government was determined to stamp out the Boko Haram sect and bring all sponsors to justice.
Buhari said, “These cowardly attacks expose the real face of the planners and perpetrators of these crimes.
“What quarrel do they have with the good people of Nyanya motor park? What issue do they have with innocent people in market places in Maiduguri, Yola and Kuje?
“It is clear this battle is not ideological. It is between the forces of peace and order and the evil forces of murder and destruction.
“Security forces and other local authorities have been instructed to maintain extra vigilance to forestall future attacks. The Armed Forces have been empowered to crush what remains of Boko Haram.
“This government is determined to stamp out Boko Haram and all other terrorists of whatever persuasions and bring all sponsors to justice.”

Located along Maiduguri-Bama road after University of Maiduguri in konduga LGA, the dam is critical to the survival of the norteastern city which Boko Haram has been attacking for years.
