How many kilometres is on the dash.if you are the first user of the car maybe ECU repair is tenable, but if you are not the first user then I advised you to buy a new ECU.so that the car will start from another new slate.maybe the previous owner had abuse it with wrong fluid.

Check p0748 on YouTube,they are strictly Hyundai mechanics, though they speak Indian,to know more about the issue, don't let anyone touch your valve body (gear)or open it o.it is very costly to replace even more than ECU.i repeat only drain and refill with recommended Hyundai mobis fluid.the same ECU was around 90k just last year but now due to dollar rise it goes for 130k.

The only thing I notice is the car will either jerks forward or backward as I shift btw *D* and *R* respectively. I don't know if that's what you are talking about?

I [b]was referred to an auto transmission mechanic who scanned the car and told me it's the valve body. He said current is not reaching one of the solenoid valve due to a broken flex wire and advised me to change the valve body of the gear box.

Abort this mission,Ur gear is fine ,only drain and refill with sp3 or sp4 ATF.

The brainbox has been contaminated,the expensive way to surmount this issue is to buy a new brainbox which the market value as at now is currently 130k in ladipo.

In the current brainbox of your Kia rio,the ic called tle2288r must be replaced along with the defective capacitors.then your car will function normal.i know a guy at ladipo who repairs it I can link u if you care,tho his price will be around 18k.

And also you will buy sp111 AT fluid,drain the old fluid and use recommended fluid,just four quarts only ,a quart is 4k.i can link you to the seller in olanibi street ladipo.forget what that mechanic is telling you, don't waste your money

Being stuck in third gear mean it will be slow to pick speed from a stop,it will struggle to climb hill,this issue from my investigation affects mostly Hyundai accent /Rio and picanto or i10,it won't select 1 and 2 on the dash.it Wii show 3.

Bro the code is P0748, something solenoid a electrical,I use a Kia Rio 013 too,had similar issue when a stupid roadside mechanic topped off my transmission with the wrong fluid

It was a tad difficult to get to where the ECM was, but i managed to get to it. I carried out voltage measurements at the ECM, and all voltages were present.

At this point, this is where most "rewire" condemns the ECM, and tell client to get another ECM. For me, it's not, this is just the beginning, there's still more test to be carried out. The next one is called reference voltage test.

The ECM is a computer that accepts inputs from sensors e.g camshaft sensor, crankshaft sensor, Engine coolant temperature sensor, knock sensor etc., process this input data based on programs written to the microprocessor inside it and output it through actuators e.g motors, Ignition coils, Nozzles, solenoids.
In other for the ECM to recieve data from these sensor, it sends out a reference voltage to the sensor, the sensor returns a voltage based on what is been sensed, it could be temperature, flow, position and many more.

A simple analogy will be, take a value from 0-5(reference) 0 bin the coldest and 5 bin the hottest what's your temperature then you may reply with 2.5 indicating your temperature is somewhat normal
So, the ECM sends out 5V or 12V this values are determined by car manufacturers

I tested this voltage at the manifold absolute pressure sensor and at the ECM itself, for this particular vehicle it's 5V and it was present which indicates our engine is well and alive, so question remains why isbour vehicle not still starting.
After seeing my Reference is present, I carried out another test called network integrity test, that's a discussion for another day, it was ok too.
I was running out of options, so I decided to open the ECM.

I found corrosion and some bad capacitors in the PCM. I cleaned it out and swapped out the bad capacitors( I've solid background in microsoldering from Macbook repairs), my phone died on me, couldn't take any pictures or videos.
Viola got the vehicle working again.


If you carefully take a look at 1st frame Engine and ECT say not equipped, 2nd frame says no fault code, my phone went off after capturing the second frame I couldn't get a video of the engine running. The engine started and ran smoothly.

The pictures might be incoherent, I don't know how to use this NL well

Let's put It this way,your car has a brain box, which is a computer,whatever issue you have just simply diagnose it with a car scanner and commence treatment asap.doing remote diagnosis on nairaland is like doing self medication without test,gonna be a dead end.

I bought my bluetooth car scanner 4k somewhere in obanikoro and it tells me the condition of my engine , transmission and ECU ,once I connect it with my smart phone, it's working perfectly.

Hmmm ,get a scanner from online, download the app from playstore ,then scan the vehicle,if it throw codes,investigate the code from Google and YouTube,money is too precious to waste on a Nigerian lemon car.

As for your engine bringing out fume from the hood, it's not issues. It's just steaming. It happens when hot engine parts gets in contact with water. You can open your bonnet to allow air help it dry faster.
