Hey guys. So I just recently repeated a class in med school and I don't really know how to move past this. I worked really hard and still ended up repeating with 0.05 mark. I am terribly sad and I really do not know how to move past this

Isn't there any room for resit before repeat in your school?

If you were given the opportunity to start studying medicine from year 1 in Canada, but you are currently in year 5 in Nigeria, which option would you choose?

You have one year remaining. Why not wait and complete your medical education here in Nigeria?

Schooling abroad is quite expensive especially when it comes to a course like Medicine. You should also consider this. Why waste hundreds of thousands of naira to get an MD degree when you won't spend up to half of that here? Think about it.

After your graduation here, you can write the medical licensing exam in Canada and do your residency there. This way, you will even be at par with those who schooled in Canada during residency.

Above all, I hope you make the right decision.

Aside unijos, is there still any fedral school one can still apply for mbbs with a jamb score of 288?

There are handful of federal universities that can give you MBBS with that score, especially those in the North. Though competition is tensed here in the South

Greetings medicos in the making. Please is it possible to use the general 100l (Physiology) study materials, textsbooks, handouts, Gs courses, pdfs and past question of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka to study the general 100l courses of mbbs at the University of Jos.

Please bosses, is it possible?

I don't think that is the right thing to do. Each school has their own course outlines to cover though it is similar in all schools. The best is for you to get from seniors in your school.

You can't prepare for a school without another school's materials

It's not a big deal, many medical students are busy finding out how to cover the workload they have and pass their exams. No be about writing it bodly on your profile, will you be able to write it boldy during exams? grin

I know schools convert the grades into points in transcripts when one needs it for Masters program.

I was talking in the context of when one is still in medical school.

There are many. Just mostly private. Problem is they're often too expensive. Just trying to broaden my options.

Okay I get. I know it is almost impossible in federal universities

it's because of professional exams..The school is lacking with induction . some of their students want to transfer to other school

So it is because of accreditation issue. I thought it is because of their school fee. Their school fee was increased some months ago.

Please, anyone knows any university that accepts inter university transfers into 300L?

Private, State or Federal. Affordable, even if it's new.

Preferably less than 2m school fees.

I'm gathering info on schools with relaxed interuniversity transfer policy. Like UNIMED, David Umahi Federal University, Bayelsa Medical University, etc. But I need more options.

I doubt if any school allows interuniversity transfer into 300L. If at all, there is anything like interuniversity transfer, you may start from 200L.

I don't know much about this, so I can't really say

This post is over a year ago, so apologies if it still offends you. Going forward I have taken a more balance approach to life, and believe that all jobs are equally important, except illegal and immoral jobs.

Good you have come to realize that and I wish you the best in all your pursuits.

Greetings chief. Please elucidate more on this with respect to studying medicine and surgery.

Medical and Dental students do not use CGPA grading system from 200L till graduation. It is either Distinction, Pass or Fail. They use CGPA only in 100L.

Though there is room for resit and repeat too. In my school, if you fail one or two courses (though subjects is more appropriate to use) out of the three courses, you resit after 3 months but if you fail any after resit, you repeat the class. If you fail all the three courses at first attempt, you will be advised to transfer to another department.

It's quite funny how you haven't gotten over this conversation for close to two years now. It's glaring that you're still emotional about it. But honestly, emotion can't erase fact. Guess you had a great Sunday service. Stay blessed.

There is nothing to be emotional about there. It is still the same labour market we will be. Medical school you graduated from doesn't matter as far as medicine is concerned, though one's school matters for other courses during employment. But when it comes to practicing as a medical doctor, it doesn't. What you should be concerned about is how to develop yourself and become a good doctor. Take for example, Dr Lomaxx, one would have thought he attended one of these so-called "big boys" schools as you claimed, judging from his wealth of medical knowledge.

And yes, I had a great Sunday service. Thank you

Boss, pls I need an answer.

Is overall CGPA important in medical sch? Radiography in particular sir.

I mean first class rad graduate or second class etc.

CGPA is important for Radiography.
All medical courses use grading point system (CGPA) till graduation except Medicine and Dentistry. Even though they are under college of medicine.

So first class or 2.1 matters for Radiography students
Education / Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Eben331: 11:34am On Aug 26, 2023

There's nothing like BIG BOYS medical schools in Nigeria once a Nigerian medical school is accredited by the MDCN. A medical doctor is a medical doctor. During job advertisement, they only state that they need a medical doctor. They don't state that the medical doctor must graduate from so and so university. Go to Locum Doctors Conference on Facebook and see for yourself.

He's a new entrant into medicine. So, he'll realize later that some of those medical schools he calls low grade isn't low grade.

Any MDCN-accredited medical school is good. It's the MDCN that sets the standard.

The MDCN can withdraw accreditation once it discovers a certain medical school has derailed. It can happen to any medical school in Nigeria. Some so called big schools once lost accreditation and did the needful and then regained it.

It's the residency that makes the difference, although it's not every doctor that wants to do residency. Also, some doctors are talented. That gives them an edge over others.

Mr. Egghead made an innocent and true statement about his"world class EBSU" not comparable to UI and other first generation University but because he felt out of place, he attacked that statement with false intent and fallacies like a castrated rabid dog.

And the baffling part of it is that some people who also suffer from such incurable ignorance like his, who also felt out of place, liked that decrepit ascertion of his.

Abeg, Medical school pass Medical school ooo.... If you're in one not comparable with the BIG BOYS, please manage it and improve on yourself to be an enviable and respectable Doctor, irrespective of where you are trained ( This applies to all medical student).

I have been on this forum for quite a while on ghostmode, observing such shameful statement overtime. But today I had no course than to correct such.

Going through Nairaland and I saw this.

Who still pay attention on which medical school is the best or not these days?
Who cares about the medical school you attended?

I hope in some years' time you will come back here to still discuss this.

Lol. I don't expect this from you though you are someone I know.

I need an Advise Please .

Is there any hope ,I read that a Complaints can be Lodged ,Has anyone be successful with this ?

The results will still be released but might be towards the end of the year which he might not be able to use it when needed. But the thing is that, even if it is released, one or more subjects are usually spoiled with fail.

Your son should apply for WAEC GCE as an alternative. The registration will close August 13 and registration pins will ends August 11.

Back in the days Nigerian Doctors behaved larger than life. Studying Medicine was a gateway to untold finances, respect and favour. As such many Doctors carried themselves as demi-gods, and would not allow anyone hear word. They often made post every other month on Nairaland heaping praises on themselves.

With the turn of event, most Doctors are now the humblest people you can see. Some of them keep saying "yes sir" a hundred times to you for absolutely no reason. Most of them are underemployed in private hospital, struggling to keep head above water.

The absence of government jobs have enslaved many who now put bye with substandard health centres earning less than 150k a month, and yet work 24hours, 30 days per month, 12 months a year. For the financial record, this is far less than the salary of an 8hours shift sales girl in a standard boutique, as their 150k divided by 8 hours gives 50k. So comparative to the sales girl who earns 60k working for 8hours the MBBS doctors earns 10k less. Oh my gosh! Those who eventually squeeze their way into state owned hospitals now have to grapple with unpayed or slashed salaries for months.

Don't get me wrong, the economic hardship hits majority of ordinary Nigerians, but Doctors are by far the most hit. After spending 6-8years of study, with probably more intense and didactic study and exams than any other undergraduate in Nigeria, and proceeding to another year of house job and service, what they get out of this is pathetic. The president does not give a hoot, their big uncle Dr Ngige has dismissed them long ago, so they are basically humbled beings.

To understand the situation better tech boys who did a year or two professional mentorship, sociologists who specialize in HR, accountants, lawyers, farmers can potentially earn 4 -5 times more than these "book worm". Parents, for the love of having a Doctor child emptied their accounts and sent some of their children to Ukraine, Russia, and the West Indies. I only wonder how they feel, as their over 10million investment is not yielding up to 500k.

What Doctors do nowadays is escape. Apart from students, the next set of people that populate embassies these days are Nigerian Doctors. Almost 1 in 5 people you would meet at the UK British visa application centre are Doctors. IELT center nko? Doctors have overwhelmed that place and have probably provided IELTs and OET the most revenue among any other professionals. I know doctors who have taken IELTs more than 3 times, yet keep flocking these centres, as if escaping is a do or die affair.

Life is beyond "I must be a doctor", all those years of packaging, nothing commot inside, except escaping to be a fugitive in another man's land. My thoughts and prayers go out to all struggling medic, that the Lord provides their next meal and shelter, and that their hustle pays off in the end. Amen

Your brother

It is like you have issues with doctors. I noticed that you have been posting denigrating posts like this for some years.

Don't you have any other thing to do with your life rather than this?

Good day Doctor, I am 48 years old and I have never contracted Covid 19, but I noticed that for almost 2 years now I have lost my sense of taste and smell. Please is it curable and what should I do? Thank you.

Is it that there is a temporary or permanent loss of taste sensation or decrease in taste sensation?

Is it that there is a partial or total loss of sensation of smell?

What are the kind of symptoms you have been experiencing over this 2 years?

Hello doctors in the house please i would appreciate translation of the attached test result and the implications. Thanks in advance

The total protein and albumin levels are higher than the normal range. This means there are too much of protein in the blood plasma.

These are some signs the person will have:
- Dehydration
- Weight gain
- Constipation

These can lead to liver diseases like hepatitis, nephritis if not handled. All this can be avoided by avoiding or limit the consumption of high-protein foods such as meat, fish, soyabeans etc. The person should eat more of the vegetables and grains.
I will advise the person to seek medical attention from a doctor.

N.B: The above explanation is only based on my knowledge as a medical student. It is very advisable for the person to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis.
