Nigerian Man Pens Heartbreaking Post On 4th Anniversary Of His Daughter's Abduction

A Nigerian man, Umar Suleiman from Nasarawa State on Thursday, November 19, marked four years since his daughter was abducted by unknown persons, IgbereTV reports.

Taking to Facebook, he penned a heart wrenching post about Khadija and how life has been for him and his family since her abduction.

He described the last four years as one filled with pain and anguish, adding that he has never celebrated his son's birthday as he was born a day after Khadija's abduction.

He wrote:

"Today, 19th Nov. four years has passed, since a beautiful jewel was taken away (abducted) from me. Since ur abduction four years ago, life has never been the same. My world has been on a standstill. Every day I wear a chearful face, but right inside me is pain, anguish, and midnight sea of tears. The pain of an abducted child is far greater than a dead one.
Khadija, the day of ur abduction ur mummy went in shock and the following day ur brother was delivered through cesarean section. For four years, I have never celebrated his birthday, because the pain of 19th Nov. is greater than the joy of the 20th.
As I remember u today, my lovely daughter, I pray to Allah to guide and protect you where ever you are."

EndSARS: Actress Didi Ekanem Narrates How She Was Sexually Harrassed By Police Officers

Actress Didi Ekanem took to Instagram to say that police harassment in Nigeria has not ended and she narrated a horrific encounter she had that left her in tears, IgbereTV reports.

She admitted she broke the law by making a "one way U-turn" on her way out. She said before she completed the turn, "10 heavily armed" task force men pointed guns at her, opened her door and threw her out of the driver's seat. This was at about 10am.

She said they made her ride in the back of her car with other officers and took her to an unknown location where the officers told her they had to wait for their commander.

As they waited, she said one of the officers tried to touch her breasts and when she warned him, he said he was only trying to help. The commander eventually came at about 3pm and took her to Alausa, Ikeja, then allegedly proceeded to make sexual passes at her.

When she refused, she said he fined her a huge sum.

She added that while she was there, she witnessed them harass and extort others who they also detained.

She concluded that the End SARS protests which held to address these same issues, had no impact.

CrimeJoseph Arikpo: Policemen Beat Lawyer In Cross River (Graphic Photo) by EBMedia(op): 3:27pm On Nov 10, 2020
A lawyer, Joseph Arikpo has accused a DPO and his officers in Cross River State of brutalising him when he went to solicit the bail of a young man who had been in detention for over six days, IgbereTV reports.

According to the Calabar based lawyer, the incident happened at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ikom, on Sunday, November 8.

Narrating his ordeal on Tuesday morning, November 10, Arikpo said trouble started when the DPO called him a stupid man.

Arikpo claimed that when he asked not to be insulted, the DPO 'punched him repeatedly and afterwards threw him into cell where he was further assaulted by some officers.'

Read his post below:

"Will this POLICE BRUTALITY EVER END?
On the 8th on November 2020, I was consulted by my client to solicit the bail of a young man who had been detention at the Divisional Police Headquarters Ikom Cross River State for over six days for no just course. In adherence to the cap rank rule, I went there, met with the DPO Ikom, introduced myself and told him that I was there to solicit for the bail of my Client who had been in detention for over Six days.

The DPO told me that he was not going to release him, because according to him, he intends to arrange for a meeting between the complainant and the accused on Wednesday 11/11/2020. But I told him that he should release him for me, and that I was going to provide the suspect on the day fixed for interview, but the DPO refused.

When I tried to remind the said DPO that my client still had his Constitutional right of freedom to liberty and dignity of his human person, he(the DPO) told me that I was stupid. In my response, I told him that I am not stupid, and took exception to that insult on my person. The DPO came closer and closer and eventually started punching me. He did it repeatedly while repeating the words "I say you are STUPID" When he came very close, I could perceive some smell of alcohol.

So, I saw the need to run. When I tried to run out of the Station, he commanded a female police officer that was nearby to close the gate, and ordered another female police to "bring him some chemical mess" (tear gas) which he used on me to the cell for detention. After taking me into the cell, he assigned an IPO, to record my statement. During the period of recoding my statement, they handcuffed me and used barton and whips to bater me, just to make sure that I wrote what they wanted as my statement.

At night while I was in the cell, the DPO sent a female police officer to come and seize my blood stained shirt so as to conceal the evidence that I was brutalized, but God help me, as I had hidden same before they came. Thank God for the NBA IKOM Chapter that came to my rescue!"

Politics#EndSARS Promoter, Rinu On Frozen Account: I Am Disappointed In Nigeria by EBMedia(op): 12:37pm On Nov 10, 2020
I Am Disappointed Nigeria Will Treat Me This Way - #EndSARS Promoter, Rinu Oduala Says After CBN Froze Her Account

Oluwarinu Oduala has expressed disappointment that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, froze her account just because she lent her voice during the EndSARS protest, IgbereTV reports.

On November 5, the apex bank secured a court order to freeze the account of 19 promoters of the #EndSARS protests.

In a Twitter thread shared on her handle on Monday night, Rinu who is a member of the Lagos State Panel of Judicial Inquiry probing cases of police brutality and the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate, said the recent action of the Central Bank of Nigeria is a betrayal of the supposed peace-making efforts of the government.

Read her Twitter thread below.

''I am part of a generation of Nigerians, who have lived most of their adult lives under ‘democratic’ rule yet I wake up this morning feeling there is no difference between the Nigeria I grew up in and the Nigeria my parents grew up in. The sacrifices of the democrats, who bravely stood on the June 12 mandate to bring our democracy to life seem to be in vain. Ironically many are serving in this government and ruling party.

Everywhere I turn, I am told that I should be ‘grateful’ for a democracy that lives were lost, I should be thankful that I have a voice and I can speak up for myself and my peers. But how can I be grateful when young men and women disappear every day, some killed recklessly without cause, while others get scarred for life—physically, emotionally, or both.

When we began to protest it was because young Nigerians decided to speak up.

We spoke up – not because we wanted to overthrow the government but because we wanted the police to stop killing us. We did not carry arms, or incite any insurrection. Our only weapon was peaceful protest enshrined in Section 40 of our 1999 Constitution. At every point we maintained calm and educated our followers – reiterating throughout the protests that we were not there to fight the government but to ask for change and to follow through to make sure that change was effected.

We believed that somehow we would be spared from the systemic violence and breakdown of social order that was the direct result of the government’s actions. Unfortunately we were mistaken.

I was volunteered to receive donations to our cause by Nigerians at home and abroad who felt helpless to personally protest but believed they could make a difference through financial sacrifices. Such was the passion of average Nigerians to contribute how best they can to the #EndSARS cause, they found my personal account number and sent in what they could sacrifice towards the cause. Some people even sent as little ?500; all they could spare towards the cause. To have their sacrifices rubbished by the government and their motivations questioned is disheartening because the raised funds including over N200,000 naira gathered from my business were meant to be disbursed to attend to the medical bills of injured protesters.

We called for among other things, a probe into the killings and torture of people and the government agreed by setting up judicial panels. In order to assure young people of the independence and fairness of the panel I took up the role as a youth representative at the detriment of my education, personal life and family. I did this to make peace. I did to ensure our young people understood that the only way to create a better and safer Nigeria is to do things lawfully. Why am I still being targeted for lending the government my goodwill?

I am not part of Nigeria’s political or business elite—I have no relatives in government or family members with enough wealth to sway powerful individuals. I am just an ordinary young Nigerian. I study, selling hoodies and other clothing for ?5,000 to pay my school fees. I also do the odd bit of freelancing, taking on some brand influencing work to ensure my family doesn’t suffer. Somehow, however, my existence threatens my government, the fact that I have a voice is enough for them to try to silence me.

In the Nigeria I am fighting for, it wouldn’t matter that I am a child of nobody coming from the average Nigerian home. The Nigeria I am fighting for is one that prioritizes every voice, protects every inalienable right, even mine.

I decided to use the only currency I have, my voice to speak up against extrajudicial killings, torture, extortion and unjust harassment that is still happening in a democratic nation in the 21st century! The government also agreed that reform is inevitable and promised us they were going to listen so why punish the same people that are speaking up?

I am not afraid—I am only disappointed that this country will treat me this way.

Nigeria is all I have, and I have a right to demand that it works for all of us, not just those with influence, wealth, or a government position.

In a country that people have been voiceless for a long time, people holding the government accountable is being seen as too much? How can we ensure that this sort of thing will encourage people to build a new Nigeria? A Nigeria that will be filled with accountable government officials, where all forms of oppressions and injustice is a thing of the past. How do you expect me as a part of the future of this country to still believe in a country who thinks they have the right through CBN to freeze my account for no just cause?

This is not fair. But we will make it fair. Otherwise, there is no future for my generation and the generations to come.

Lest you forget, #EndSARS !"

Harzoyka Restaurant Apologises To Aisha Salaudeen For Gender Discrimination After FCCP's Investigation (Photos)

Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has investigated Harzoyka Restaurant in GRA Ikeja following allegations they have a policy that does not allow service to female customers who arrive without a male figure, IgbereTV reports.

It began after CNN journalist Aisha Salaudeen called out the eatery following her experience there. She said she was "kicked out" of the restaurant for being a woman without a man accompanying her and was told it's a new policy.

After her thread on the matter went viral, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC visited the restaurant on the allegation of gender based discrimination.

The FCCPC then gave an update on their findings on Twitter.

According to the FCCPC, the "Commission is issuing a Compliant Notice pursuant to section 150 Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Act, and the undertaking in question shall remain under supervision for a limited period to ensure adequate training and oversight regarding illegal or prohibited parameters for denying access, and proper customer engagement and complaint resolution."

The Commission added that it "rejects any discrimination or stereotyping on account of race, gender, social class, or any other protected ground, and will subject any perpetrator to the fullest weight of the law."

Giving an update after FCCPC's visit to the eatery, Aisha Salaudeen noted that one of the directors of the restaurant has called to apologise, saying the policy was misunderstood.

She wrote:

"Update, one of the director's of the restaurant has called to apologise. According to him, his staff misunderstood the policy, and he would never ask that women be disallowed from the premises."
https://twitter.com/AishaSalaudeen/status/1325849223405989890?s=19

However, female Twitter users say the policy wasn't misunderstood as they have had similar experiences while visiting the eatery.
