PoliticsBill Seeking To Criminalise Mob Actions Scales Through First Reading by EBMedia(op): 6:23pm On May 03, 2023
A bill prescribing a five-year jail term for unlawful protesters in Nigeria has been approved for a second reading at the House of Representatives on Thursday, IGBERETV reports.

The bill which was sponsored by Rep. Emeka Chinedu Martins (PDP-Imo), seeks to amend the Criminal Code Act, Cap 38, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 “to further preserve the sanctity of human life and property, and to provide specifically for the crime of mob action, prescribe punishment and other matters.”

The bill proposes to punish individuals who participate in unlawful assembly, riot and mob action.

“When an unlawful assembly has begun to act in so tumultuous a manner as to disturb the peace, the assembly is called a riot, and the persons assembled are said to be riotously assembled.

“When an unlawful assembly becomes violent as to commit unlawful acts against any person or property, the assembly is called a mob and their violent act is referred to as mob action”.

The bill also stated that whoever participate in a riot is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years, while mob action is five years imprisonment.

“The Criminal Code Act in section 69 defines riot as when an unlawful assembly turns tumultuous as to disturb the peace, but did not provide for when the unlawful assembly turns violent against persons and property.

“This amendment to the Bill seeks to remedy that by providing for specific amendments to sections 69, 71 and 76 of the Criminal Code Act dealing with mob action and further prescribing punishment for the crime.

“The amendment to the Act will encourage our law enforcement agencies to go after persons involved in mob action and give impetus to the criminal justice system to bring such offenders to book.”, he added.

PoliticsProtesters Storm CBN Headquarters, Demand Emefiele’s Arrest, Resignation by EBMedia(op): 3:39pm On May 03, 2023
Some Nigerians stormed the headquarters of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) today to demand the resignation and arrest of the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele over the failed new naira notes policy, IGBERETV reports.

The protesters wielding placards were sighted at the premises of the apex bank, who noted that Emefiele had inflicted undue hardship on Nigerians which had led to the death of many people.

The group under the auspices of George Uboh Whistle-blower Network vowed to occupy the apex bank until their demands were met.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read; “Emefiele Must Go”; “CBN Now Bureau De Change”; “Emefiele Bring Out The Names of Those You Gave Our Money To”; “Where Is The 500 Billion You Cried on Tape Is Missing?”; “What Happened To Anchor Borrowers Programme and many others?”

Addressing journalists, the Convener of the protest, George Uboh said Emefiele had committed genocide for subjecting Nigerians to pains and hardship for mopping up old naira notes and forcing people to queue endlessly at various banks in order to get cash.

He said, "We are demanding that Godwin Emefiele in his capacity as the Governor of CBN should make available the new naira notes. He must also come out here to address the people because the Supreme Court in its ruling pronounced that the new naira notes policy has caused the Nigerian masses undue hardship."

He said the action of the CBN on the monetary policy was tantamount to genocide adding that it was not only guns that could be used to commit genocide.

He said their protest was hinged on the Supreme Court judgment which directed the CBN to release the new naira notes just as he described the policy as “insensitive” under the watch of Emefiele.

Uboh said they had perfected plan to call for his arrest and prosecution by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for committing crimes against humanity.

He said having two legal tender at the same in a country is a treasonable just as he lamented how the policy had crippled small businesses in the country.

The security agents including Police, Nigeria Army and Operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) have surrounded the building to prevent any possible breakdown of law and order.

PoliticsThe Audio Call Is Fake, We're Taking Legal Action Against Peoples Gazette - Obi by EBMedia(op):
The Audio Call Is Fake, We Are Taking Legal Action Against Peoples Gazette - Peter Obi

Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that the audio call being circulated of his alleged conversation with clergyman, Bishop David Oyedepo, is fake, IGBERETV reports.

Voices identified as that of Obi and Oyedepo were heard in a leaked audio phone call that went viral last weekend. In the audio, the voice believed to be Obi's asked the voice believed to be Oyedepo's, to help facilitate votes for him amongst the Christian community, saying that the 2023 general election was a ‘’religious war''.

But in a series of tweets posted on Wednesday, Obi stated that the audio recording is fake and that at no time during and after the elections has he even implied that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war. He said his legal team has been instructed to take appropriate legal actions against those who released the fake audio online.

He wrote;

"I continue to thank all Nigerians, especially the youths and the Obidients, as they have remained focused on the core mission of a New Nigeria that is POssible even after the February 25, 2023 presidential election.

Before, during, and after the campaign, it is on record that I have maintained my commitment and focus on issue-based campaign about a New Nigeria that is POssible, a shift of emphasis from consumption to production, a New Nigeria characterized by inclusion, justice, equity, fairness, and prosperity.

I repeatedly stated that no one should vote for me based on Tribe or Religion, but rather on the assessment of Character, Competence, Capacity, Credibility, and Compassion that can be trusted to create a New Nigeria!

The present attempts by the APC as a Party, and the APC Led-government through some government officials and agencies to divert our attention from our blatantly stolen mandate is unfortunate and sad.

These have come and continued to manifest in different ways, such as the malicious accusation of the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, the circulation of a fake doctored audio call, and a pressure on me to leave the country.

Let me reiterate that the audio call being circulated is fake, and at no time throughout the campaign and now did I ever say, think, or even imply that the 2023 election is, or was a religious war.

The attempts to manipulate Nigerians is very sad and wicked. Our legal team have been instructed to take appropriate legal actions against Peoples Gazette and others.

While we call on all concerned Nigerians and the International Community to implore the APC and the APC Led-government to stop their nasty attacks, my focus and commitment to lawfully and peacefully retrieve our mandate to secure and unite our Nation, take Nigeria from consumption to production, pull millions of Nigerians out of multidimensional poverty especially in the North, and jumpstart prosperity through agricultural, industrial, and technological revolution remain unchanged.

Elections are over, and we are in court to retrieve our stolen mandate. Let me reiterate that we are doing so through all lawful and peaceful options in line with our legal system and constitution, and I continue to implore all Nigerians to remain peaceful and law abiding.

Those fixated with heating up the polity, creating divisions, tensions and hatred within and outside Nigeria should remember that Nigeria is our only country. Our focus should be on how to address the litany of challenges facing us, such as:

flawed electoral processes, the parlous state of our economy, unsustainable debt burden, lamentable unemployment and inflation, insecurity, and multi-dimensional poverty. A New Nigeria is indeed POssible, and God will help us. -PO"

CelebritiesCourt Grants Blessing CEO Bail Over Alleged Cyber-Bullying by EBMedia(op): 8:24pm On Apr 04, 2023
Court Grants Relationship Expert, Blessing CEO Bail Over Alleged Cyber-Bullying, Libel

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Tuesday granted bail to social media influencer Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, for alleged cyber-bullying, IGBERETV reports.

The Nigeria Police Force had arraigned Blessing CEO, a self-acclaimed relationship expert, before Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court on six counts bordering on alleged cyber-bullying, libel and for exhibiting uncensored movies.

On Tuesday, counsel for Blessing CEO filed a bail application before Justice Tijjani Ringim of the Federal High Court in Lagos on her behalf.

In absence of opposition from the police, the judge granted Blessing CEO bail. She was admitted to N10 million bail each with two sureties in like sum.

Police prosecutor, Rotshang Faith Dimka, in a piece of proof information filed before the court, stated that Okoro Blessing of Lekki, Lagos, on October 16, 2022, “intentionally sent messages using her Instagram handle @officialblessingceo to bully, threaten and harass one Folashade Samuels, a.k.a Mamajazz, a younger sister to the late Bimbo Ogbonna.”

The police also accused the blogger of using her Instagram handle @officialblessingceo, to harm the reputation of Folashade Samuels and the late Bimbo Ogbonna, by exposing them to hatred, contempt and ridicule.

Accusing her also of exhibiting a film and video work titled “Sweet Sour” without a censorship certificate and without holding a licence as issued by National Film & Video Censors Board (NFVCB).

The prosecutor further identified some of the messages the blogger sent as including: “Let’s ask Mamajazz where her father is?? ? Their father had exactly the same issue with their mother Ebele and he ran away for us (sic) dear life. IVD’s crime was that he was not man enough to run…”

“The family of late Bimbo is after IVD’’s properties and life. Especially her elder sister Mamajazz. Bimbo and IVD are well-known people in Lagos and it’s not a hidden fact that even in their estate that Bimbo is violent. Everybody knows how she breaks a bottle on her husband’s head on a daily .. Bimbo killed herself and has always wanted to kill herself right from childhood. Evidence loading. All the voice notes and evidence will be on my YouTube and Facebook. Subscribe," she also wrote.

“I will ask Mamajazz, the late Bimbo’s sister few questions…where (sic) you in (sic) talking terms with your sister before (she) died? Are you owing your late sister 18 million? Did she block you before her death? Do you even like your sisters’ children?? Answers this question because | will slam the internet with raw facts and evidence.

“I am stepping into the case as the official relationship therapist of IVD… Will drop all the evidence that IVD did not kill his wife or even hurt her. The late Bimbo was the violent person and suicidal victim….” The police further cited.

The police had told the court that the offence the defendant/accused committed contravenes Section 24 (2)(a)(1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, and Section 375 of the Criminal Code Act. They also reportedly contravene Section 33 of the NFVCB Act, 2004.

Okoro had pleaded not guilty. Following her no-guilty plea, Justice Bogoro ordered she should be remanded at Nigerian Correctional Services Custodial Centre till May 30 for the hearing of her bail application.

The late Bimbo, the wife of a Lagos celebrity auto-dealer, Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, reportedly died last year in a fire incident at their residence in Lekki, Lagos.

PoliticsWe Are Not Part Of Any Insurrection Plans - Labour Party by EBMedia(op): 5:51pm On Mar 30, 2023
The Labour Party (LP) says it is not part of any insurrection plan being planned in Nigeria according to the Department of State Services (DSS), IGBERETV reports.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had on Wednesday, March 29 raised an alarm over a plot to scuttle the democratic process and install an interim government.

Reacting to the development, the Labour Party’s spokesman Yunusa Tanko said the party is not plotting any insurrection, describing the development as a conspiracy against the state.

We are not part of any insurrection plans whatsoever,” he said on Channels Television’s Lunch Time Politics on Thursday.

“But what I am saying is that we would protect the interest of Nigerian people based on the provisions of the law which provides that where you are hurting, you have the right to protest and that you would do so with the defence and protection of the Nigerian security apparatus. That is what we would do but we would not support any insurrection in any way.”

Tanko accused the DSS and other security agencies of not protecting the interest of the Nigerian state during the 2023 elections, claiming some of the party’s supporters were disenfranchised in parts of the country.

“The DSS and the security agencies should come out and protect us even if we are on the streets protesting,” he added, maintaining that the Labour Party is not mobilising people to come out on the streets to fight.

He further said that the Labour party will not do anything against the laws of Nigeria. “We are ready to follow the rules and laws of the democratic setting,” he said.

Nigerian singer, Portable has said that the boy he beat up that went to write a petition against him, was his apprentice, IGBERETV reports.

Men of the Ogun state police command stormed his bar on Tuesday to pick him up but he resisted arrest, saying they did not have a warrant. The police later disclosed that they received a petition against the singer and had invited him over for questioning over five times but he ignored them. The police command said after securing a warrant, they went to pick him up from his bar but he resisted arrest.

His former signee, Manny Monie, in a video posted online, revealed he was the one who wrote the petition to the police against the singer. According to Monie, the petition was written in December last year and that efforts to get Portable to come for questioning proved abortive.

’I was the one that wrote the petition against portable. It is not today we wrote the petition. We wrote it since December last year. The police have tried their possible best. They did not want his name to ‘spoil’ online so they invited him over. They gave him at least three months to say his own side of the story. He beat me, assaulted me, seized my property , made false allegations against me online.'', Monie said

Reacting to the video by his former signee, Portable accused Manny Monie of being a fraudster. He said Monie was his apprentice and that he indeed assaulted Monie. He said beating up his apprentice is not something the police should get involved in.

That boy wey I beat, he’s my boy. I’m a boss to him. Oga go beat apprentice na? That one no mean say make Police come say make dem come arrest you. This boy is my boy. He’s into Yahoo [Internet fraud]. I advised him to quit but he still dey do the scam dey go. Then I pursued him. I beat him. I flogged him. Now you want to arrest me because of I flogged him? He come to write a petition about me, about a celebrity superstar. He’s a Yahoo boy. Yahoo boy came to lay a complaint. He write petition about superstar celebrity. My work is legit. I do music for a living. I no fear anybody, na only God I fear,” he said.

"The outcome of the elections in my community, Emelego was the only information I had as at the time I arrived in Abua Central on the evening of yesterday but I immediately lost interest in the whole electoral process and most likely politics when the news of the gruesome murder of my Brother and friend, Mr Arumodum Julius Akoi , a deputy director with NOSDRA who was killed in line of duty as an INEC SPO by suspected political thugs filtered into my ears upon my arrival in Ayama from Odual yesterday.

“The last time I cried like I did yesterday after hearing of Boy T's death was when I lost my elder brother to the cold hands death. All Rivers people wanted from Buhari was a peaceful and transparent electoral process but the selfish Man from Daura couldn't guarantee us that. I Hate Rivers State Brand Of Politics.
