Lagos State Govt Seal Off Cubana Night Club For Breaking COVID-19 Protocols (Photos/Videos)

The Lagos State Safety Commission on Saturday night December 19, sealed off CUBANA night club in Ikeja and other facilities for non-compliance of the State Government COVID-19 protocols, IgbereTV reports.

On Friday, December 18, Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, placed a ban on concerts, street parties, and nightclubs as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID19 in the state. Nigeria is currently experiencing a second wave of the pandemic and so the numbers of confirmed cases of the virus have been on the increase.

On Saturday night, a team from the Lagos State Safety Commission led by the Lagos state commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, stormed the Ikeja GRA facility of Cubana grills and shut down the facility for hosting its customers despite the ban on night clubs.

Videos shared online by the Lagos state government shows the nightclub goers being ordered out of the facility.

Bandits Kill Three Zamfara Traders, Release 9 Others After Collecting N6m And Brand New Motorbikes As Ransom

Bandits have killed three Zamfara traders and released nine others after payment of N6m and three brand new motorbikes as ransom payment, IgbereTV reports.

The 13 traders from the Dansadau community were kidnapped three weeks ago while travelling in an 18-seater bus at Mashayar Zaki along Gusau-Dansadau road, 82 km north of Gusau, the state capital.

It was gathered that the kidnappers contacted families of the victims four days later and demanded N80 million ransom for their release.

A brother of one of the traders, Alhaji Yau Dansadau said they managed to beat down the ransom to N10 million after painstaking negotiations.

"About N10 million was found on the traders and was carted away by the abductors. After N5 million was delivered to them, they released 2 of the kidnapped victims with a promise to release the rest the following day. The freed victims can’t walk following severe injuries they sustained on their legs after they were chained for many days,"

"They carried the victims on motorbikes and brought them to Hannu Tara area just 2km north of the very spot they kidnapped them. The victims are now responding to treatment at a medical facility. One of the kidnapped victims called Ali Laudi told us that three of them couldn’t survive as they died in kidnappers’ custody,” he added.

One of the victims, Bello Dansadau, told reporters that they were blindfolded and chained for all the days they spent in the kidnappers’ den and could not walk because of the severe injuries on their legs.

"We really saw hell; it was a terrible moment for us. Even when we are going to ease ourselves, we would be asked to go blindfolded. I will not wish this condition even for my enemy,” Bello said.

A notorious armed robber/kidnapper identified as Obio aka Sly and one of his gang members have been apprehended in Calabar, Cross River state, IgbereTV reports.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, December 15, in a joint operation between the State Security Adviser, South, Mr Leo Nyambe and members of Bayside Neighborhood Security Services led by Hon. Effiong Ekrika.

Residents said that the criminal and his gang have been a torn on their flesh, leading and abating major armed robberies and kidnaps within Calabar and its environs.

The suspects, who are presently in police custody were nabbed with a locally made pistol.

Governor Umahi Inspects Flyover Construction In Ebonyi On His Arrival From Abuja (Photos)

On his arrival from a few days working visit to Abuja on Wednesday, Governor Umahi of Ebonyi State proceeded to inspect the ongoing construction of the 7th and 12th flyovers located at Nkalagu junction and Ezzamgbo junction respectively, IgbereTV reports.

Speaking to news men during the inspection, Governor Umahi said, "the miracle of total transformation that is going on in Ebonyi is a major source of my joy."

Under Governor Umahi's administration, 5 flyovers have been completed while 8 is ongoing including the Iyere flyover. The Ebonyi international Airport, Olympic Stadium, Ebonyi international Mall, Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, the Enugu-Abakaliki and Abakaliki-Afikpo roads dualization are simultaneously ongoing at advanced stages of completion.

Father Ejike Mbaka has been accused of assaulting a team of BBC journalists who visited his residence for an interview on Wednesday December 9, IgbereTV reports.

BBC journalists Chioma Obianinwa and Nnamdi Agbanelo, as well as their driver, Ndubuisi Nwafor, were accompanied by another Catholic priest, Father Cajethan Obiekezie and his assistant, Solomon Orakam during the vist to Father Mbaka’s Adoration Ministry at around 10:00 local time.

They reportedly moved to Father Mbaka’s home in Emene town after the church service to conduct the interview at around 17:00.

The publication reported that the journalists who were waiting in the car after one Father Obiekezie went to talk to the popular Catholic Priest, were suddenly surrounded by about 20 men who seized their equipment and threatened to kill them for writing "negative reports about Mbaka".

One of the journalists, Obianinwa said;

“Mbaka asked us to wait until the end of the programme for the interview. The men outside his house said BBC Igbo writes negative things about Mbaka and started beating Nnamdi, Solomon and Ndubuisi. They gave them heavy blows on their heads and all over their body.

The BBC reporter further said that Father Mbaka and Father Obiekezie came out of the house when they heard the noise and that Father Mbaka faced her and started poking his fingers in her face, calling her "satanic".’

“This fired up the men to continue the attacks as Father Mbaka continued shouting and abusing us. He asked his men to seize our phones and cameras. They said they would kill us and nothing would happen. They removed my wig and tried to strangle Nnamdi. Father Obiekezie was telling them to stop but they attacked him too and seized his phone."

Obianinwa said the attacks stopped when she screamed that “the world would know that they were killed in Mbaka’s house”.

She added;

“At this point, Father Mbaka asked us to leave before his men killed us. He asked them to return our equipment and they chased us out of the compound. His men trailed us till we left the state to seek medical assurance and police help."

Truck Driver Killed In Accident While Being Chased By Suspected Revenue Collectors In Onitsha (Photos)

Angry truck drivers and youths on Sunday, shut down the Asaba-Onitsha expressway following the death of one of their members, killed in an accident while escaping from suspected revenue collectors at Head Bridge, Onitsha, Anambra State, IgbereTV reports.

The deceased identified as 25-year-old Micheal Chimezie Okorie, a driver of an articulated truck was reportedly being pursued by the tax collectors stationed at Head bridge Onitsha when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a concrete barricade.

Speaking to newsmen at the scene, the deceased's brother, Maduabuchi Okoye, who was with him at the time of the incident, said after they paid N3500 to the collectors and collected receipt, the group still pursued them. In the process of running away from the men his brother hit a pole by the roadside and the wood they were carrying fell on them.

The deceased was rushed to Toronto Hospital by the police where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.

The incident caused heavy traffic gridlock in the area as hundreds of aggrieved drivers blocked the highway with bonfires.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, December 6, said the Commissioner of Police, John Abang has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter.

"On 6/12/2020 at about 4:am,there was a report of fatal motor vehicle accident along Asaba/Onitsha Expressway by Coca-Cola market Onitsha involving a Mercedes Benz 911 Lorry with Registration No ACA -178-XA loaded with timber and driven by one Micheal Chimezie Okorie 'm’ aged 25years of Oduma in Aninri LGA of Enugu State," the statement says.

"The accident occured when the truck driver who was allegedly being pursued by suspected "revenue collectors" stationed at Head bridge Onitsha suddenly lost control and crashed into the concrete barricade near Coca-Cola Market,"

"As a result, the driver of the lorry became unconscious and was rushed to Toronto Hospital by Police Patrol team attached to Okpoko Division where he was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor on duty. Corpse photographed and deposited at same Hospital morgue for postmotem examination."

"However, following the incident,aggrieved youth in their hundreds went on rampage and blocked the highway, setting bonfires on the road, but were later persuaded to disperse through the joint efforts of the Police, Union leaders and State Government Officials.

"Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP John B.Abang, who is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter. The CP further assures the public that perpetrators would be arrested and brought to book."
