You can try daycare..some have daily rates and you switch to full-time once you deliver.

Try Google or driving around your area with your host. You should find some.

Just budget $250 - $300 per week for daycare. The daily rate should be divided by 5

Hello house.
I'm travelling to ga with a child and my host has a full time job.
Who knows if i can attend hospital appointments with my child.
I plan on using Northside hospital.
Also, does any one know any daily childcare drop off services ? Or daily nanny agencies I can use on my appointment days?.
I plan on getting a full time nanny for the month I'm due.

I think I uploaded my e-mail application as CAC and used my Nigerian address as company address. I don't think they much attention to the online firm. It appears to be primarily for the payment purposes.

I have proceeded to go to the NIS site and started application, but I am now at the point where it's asking for companies CAC letter, invitation lettter from company, etc and it won't let me proceed to the next page of application.

You need a BC to get the passport and that can up to 2wks to be issued.

Summerrr:

Do you think it is possible to leave within 2 weeks of the baby's birth? I have heard it would take 30 days or more to receive the SSN so not sure if I need to wait around for it. I want to leave asap but was also told by DOH Hawaii that it would take 4-6 weeks for a birth certificate and they won't confirm that it would be shorter if I go to an office instead. The US passport seems to be the fastest document to get, with a one day turn around possible if you go in person but I'm nervous about the other stuff taking long...

You can't be sent back for changing destinations. It's not a crime!

peacenigeria:

Officers are looking for an excuse to send birth tourists back. Go where ever you said you were going and avoid coming back here to post the drama you created by doing other than you specifically said you would do to the VO and for which you were approved.

Why decide to stay alone if you have family or friends you can stay. I will suggest you look at the full cost including transportation and all and make your decision.

Dlordschild:

hahaha @AWoof. thanks for the response. you have a point.

You can change destinations if it works out better for you. No law against it.

Just be ready to explain if asked at POE.

Dlordschild:
hi All,

I binge read this blog and topic and i gained a lot so thanks to all those who drop their experiences here. Accordingly let me give back with the hope that the new question i have can be answered.

** Long Post Alert*

i applied for visa (using a highly recommended agent) yes o i used agent, not because am lazy but because my work is so tight and i didn't want to make any mistakes. Moreover i didn't have enough time to waste as my pregnancy is far advanced so i needed a close interview date. i applied for me, my 2year old son and my mom (to help out in the US)

we all had separate interview dates (an error but it worked for our good). All in Lagos

First Transcript - Me (applied for B2 Visa) no need to lie, belle don dey show already.

interview lasted less than 5mins. happened early Jan so no queue at all

Questions asked included
- Why are you travelling to the US - Child birth / vacation
-Where do you work & what is your job title / how long have you worked there
- Where does hubby work
-Asked to see budget sheet - i made that substantial and way over the quotes i got
- Asked to see Doc correspondences
-Asked to see Bank statement , proof of fund
- Who are you staying with - will make my own accommodation arrangement (used intown suites for the interview)

next thing, madam your visa has been approved, blablabla... white paper, ensure you don't use any medical aid or unexplained discount
me: thank you ma

Second Transcript - Mum - mid Jan so long queue at the embassy but short interview as well
VO: Why are you travelling
Mum: to help my DD who is going to give birth
VO: does she have a visa,
Mum: yes - shows her my visa
VO: have you traveled before
Mum: Yes, Germany
VO: How many children do you have
Mum: Bleep
VO: Your visa has been approved, blablabla... white paper,

Final Transcript - SON
VO just asked if i had a visa, if i had traveled before outside Nig and how long am staying.

though one over zealous guy before the main visa section (those guys that check your appointment and affix something on your passport) flexed muscle for me. saying he wont clear me to go in because of his silly Ego. Nigerians Sha SMH but its all good.

what i learnt
1. be Honest- this interview guys are smart. if your story is not straight they will see through it
2. be composed
3.be prepared
4. Then leave the rest to God

On Hospital search, if you no get time, use agent (dont be stingy lol, shebi you wan go spend million in America grin then verify what they got for you. or read Nairaland and google the rest. its best to search for an OBGYN in your desired area first then they can tell you the hospital they use or even share the hospital rates with you

Now my question - abeg make una help me
For the visa interview i used Virginia and said i didn't know anyone on my form - now i have an offer of accommodation in Dallas Texas (family friend). however total medical bill for Virginia (CS) is lower than that of Texas. Bill from Virginia was gotten via agent, the one for Texas i got by myself

Do you advice i go with the original plan which is Virginia / Henrico hosp or should i go to Texas. will i have issues at POE if i change locations?

Mamas that have used henrico please advice if the bill is truly affordable with no hidden charges??

Travel date is fast approaching (end feb) and i need to book a ticket.

Thank you!!
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 8:34pm On Jan 20, 2019
Yes..you are most likely being invited for interview. Same thing happened to me..picked up my passport and it was blank, with a letter to book 221g interview.

All the best!

Kiaso82:
Good Morning all... I did my Dropbox in December 2018 and just got a text message this January 2019 that my passport is ready for pick up... also got an email confirming same. But before then I tracked it online and noticed it showed me on the dash board available appointment date. Please does this mean I am being invited for interview or what... I am yet to collect my passport. Did not receive any call or sms inviting me.

Can anyone advice on what to Do, as this is strange to me...

Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 1:00am On Jan 05, 2019
Just tell them you were not aware that was required. It's not stated anywhere on their website to do so.

Mandydaisy:
I think the best thing to do is not add passport number and use initials because at POE some people get asked if they notified the embassy so what then do you do?

I've heard lately of people who paid ALL their bills and were trying to renew for visit purpose but got denied. This new banning policy is a norm for VO's not because of low bills or refusal to pay bills.
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 12:56am On Jan 05, 2019
I got my visa in July after being called for 221G. I posted my interview..My husband got his via Dropbox in Dec. It really all depends on the VO.

KingAL07:

Unfortunately, having a medical visa is no guarantee, speaking from personal experience. I applied for a medical visa, presented the package I was going to use for the child birth purpose, I was given the medical visa, proceeded to use it, had a total medical bill of over $10k, paid ALL my bills, crossed all my T's and dotted all my I's. Traveled twice after initial child birth on same medical visa. Fast forward to time of renewal, I was invited in for an interview and denied a visa, was not pregnant, just trying to renew for holiday and shopping purposes.
I am not trying to be a Debbie downer here, just felt I should put this out there, so people are more prepared for the outcome of their interview and if possible plan early for other countries that give similar opportunities like the US.
It is obvious there is a vendetta against Nigeria. I am yet to see someone who falls under the bucket of child birth who has successfully renewed their visa in the last 6months.
P.S: If you are applying for a medical visa, take a package that shows at least 15k as the total bill and be able to show you can pay it, still not a guarantee as these people are currently VEXING. All the best guys.

Boston is not cheap o..had my 2 babies there. Their POE isn't friendly too...but you'll be fine if you go prepared. Don't know about JFK 'cause I've never used it.

Kesspru:
Hello everyone. I have been reading all the feedbacks and I have learnt a lot so far. Please does anyone have or know any cheap hospital in Boston as that is where I have family. And is it best to fly directly to Boston or go through New York JFK. Just trying to consider an easy POE. Though iv passed through JFK a couple of times heading to Boston. I'll be glad to receive a response.
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 2:48am On Dec 20, 2018
I flew at 33weeks..most airlines accept up to 36weeks. The deciding factor most times is the doctor (what's the maximum time the doctor you want to use can accept).

apex123:

The maximum time allowed for a pregnant woman to fly is 28weeks old.

I've been trying to pay with my Bank of America card online and it's not going through. Apparently BOA doesn't allow transactions from Nigeria. Only option left now is my Naira card, just waiting for it to be registered.

Has anyone ever used a Naira card for voa?

Leomichael:

you are right but you can also pay online which I advise since it is working now. I have heard of people that had it rough because their cards did not work at POE. You may want to have a US based card to be sure.

Have you received your letter?

I applied without a birth certificate. It is actually not a requirement for VOA but you can send it if it makes you comfortable.

Thanks so much for having mercy on me smiley wink You've been a big help.

I was initially going to add birth certificate but since no one mentioned it here or on their website, decided to leave it out until requested.

Would send it now.

Thanks

At what point do you pay for voa? Is it immediately after you apply or once you get the letter from them? Also, how long does it take for them to send the letter? Do I have to wait for it before I can travel with LO?

Thanks

Try this method. This is what I did in 2017 when i gave birth.

I'm in Boston too.. leaving next week.

Birth certificate and SS should have been done at the hospital. Normally ready for collection at Boston City hall in 2weeks from date of application. SSN is sent out by mail within 3weeks.

For the US passport, you can apply once you get your consent form and birth certificate. Consent form is form DS-3053 printable from the US passport website. Hubby would take the unsigned form to the US embassy for notarization(make sure he fills your name as it is on your passport). He can book appointment on US embassy Nigeria website..you can Google 'notarization US embassy Nigeria'

He will need to send you the original copy to apply for US passport. DHL takes about 4days to arrive in Boston. My hubby paid 23k to send. You can book appointment to apply at Boston passport agency if your ticket date is within 2weeks or you need a visa within 4wks. Just tell them you fall in that category, they don't need to know about voa. Make sure you go with copy of your ticket. Check US passport website for detailed list of documents.

My LO's passport was ready in 2days.

As for medical bills..just prepare yourself. Boston is not cheap but if you look at the bill and it doesn't look right, don't be afraid to ask billing for review.

All the best!

johnsonogah:
Good morning everyone

How to process birth certificate,+ SS,

Lol...Boston is not for the faint hearted. Even my husband got sent to secondary inspection when he came on his own. On my recent trip..they held me so long I was literally crying out of frustration after a 24hr flight and a restless toddler. I was at the airport for 4hrs.

I had a terrible experience in 2016. Those people scruuuuuuuutinised my soul at the secondary inspection office.

POE in Boston is not friendly at all. Both times I've been there I've been sent to secondary inspection. Make sure you have your documents ready in case you're asked for them and also be prepared for a long wait at the POE(they have crazy long queues for scanning passports and CBP)

Also prepare yourself for a 221G interview in case you get called in.

It's best to call the UStraveldocs number for booking appointments.

damsell:
Greetings house. Old timer here but I need help in scheduling an interview appointment under the 221g category. I'm actually looking to use the Abuja consulate for this interview due to the non availability of close enough Lagos dates even though I used Lagos for the initial drop box application..First of all, is this possible?
The main problem I have now though is that when I access my profile to schedule an appointment, only the available dates list pop up and then a Submit and Cancel tab, no 221g category tab, no location tab, And I gather that you only get one chance to schedule an interview under this category, unlike if it's a fresh application that you can reschedule up to 3times if I'm not mistaken.
Please can someone help? I've actually sent a mail through the feedback tab to the consulate but I'd appreciate if anyone here can field this question as I am quite pressed for time and need an Abuja interview date that is close enough.
Regards all

Everybody gets a B1/B2 visa. It's at POE that the CBP officer stamps you in as B1 or B2 depending on the purpose you tell him/her. B2 is for holiday and/or medical treatment, which is what you'd be doing, so you're fine.

B2 is medical/tourism
