Doubt it exists..too high risk. You can give birth at anytime after 37 weeks and it would be considered full term.

Safest period would have to be before 36 wks before you go and born on the plane in the middle of nowhere.

Myself67:
Please what airline can fly a 38 weeks pregnant woman. And what are the documents I need apart from Doctor's fit to fly

Ok..it should be fine then. Just checked mine and it's 110-120v.

Ayomiidele:
The adapter for the one I got is 100v-220v. I haven't used it yet but from this rating I believe it should be good for Nigeria. See the picture of the adapter below.

I have and i don't think it makes a difference in how you're treated..just make sure you take your receipts and zero balance letter/statement just in case they ask. They kept asking if I had my receipts at POE and secondary inspection but didn't they didn't ask to see them. Maybe it's because they already knew it had been seen at the embassy.

Vgil100:
Has anyone gone for this birth trip with their America kid.Pls what is the perception at POE.Does that send a wrong message? I am really feeling pity leaving my 5 year old (born in US) for that long. And my trip is less than a month.I am confused, to take him or not?

Medela is 110v o..my plug blew the first time I used it in Nigeria thankfully I was able to get another one on warranty. I had to use batteries everytime I needed to pump.

Ayomiidele:
Thanks so much for your advise. Medela actually has a 100v to 250v capacity so should work both in Nigeria and the US. My main problem is the steriliser and bottle warmer now. I haven't found one which has a 240v rating. They are all 110v in US. Mommas in the house, any suggestions before I resort to buying from the UK and sending to Nigeria.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84:
B1 is for Business and B2 is for tourism/medical. B2 alone suffices for holiday, no need to apply for a B1/B2.

ozycy:
if you plan to travel for vacation, select B1/B2 and make sure you travel for that vacation. if you don't intend to travel for vacation, you can go ahead and pick same B2 and wait for pregnancy to happen. If called for interview, explain your self. or you just wait till you are pregnant before reapplying if you still have some time left.

Sorry to hear this..i think you should reapply in Lagos.

Good day house,
I had my interview today and I was denied.
You all have been very helpful:
My interview questions

Why are going to US?
(To have my baby)
Do you have another child?
(Yes, a daughter)
Where does your husband work
(Answered)
Where do you work
(Answered)
Then I was given the pink paper.
I don’t know where I went wrong. Was very prepared with all my documents as I’ve read this thread thoroughly from page 1.

My husband went for his interview too and he got a visa.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84:
In the spirit of giving back..I just had my 221G interview today in Lagos. Just to give a little background information for you to understand my situation.

I got my first visa (B1/B2) in Jan 2014 but never used it. In June 2015 I found out I was pregnant with my first child and would need to travel after my then current visa expires in mid Jan 2016. I wanted to travel late Jan 2016 to maximize my maternity leave. So I applied for a new visa (B1/B2) via dropbox in November 2015, my previous visa was cancelled without prejudice and a new one was issued. Travelled late Jan 2015 and declared my true intentions at POE, went harmed with my hospital correspondence (thanks to information from Nairaland). The 1st CBP officer was not nice at all and threatened to send me back...saying I can’t just come and give birth and get citizenship blah blah (I just started speaking in tongues). She sent me to secondary inspection where the 2nd CBP officer was nicer, went through my hospital correspondence and stamped me in on B2 for 6 months.

Fast forward to this year, when I found I was pregnant again. I started reading from the beginning of Part 6 and was seeing so many refusals. It looked like being honest alone wasn’t enough anymore...you also need God’s favour. Thank God I kuku know him...so I just kept praying and calling the hospital to get my zero balance statements. Had to have it posted to my aunt and they would not send via e-mail. She then scanned it to me to print (this took almost 2months to get). The only people I had headache with was Quest Diagnostics who could not send statements. Many thanks to @simbolee and @chibertha who suggested I e-mail Quest as they did and print out their response as proof of settlement. I was only getting these documents ready for POE or if I get called in for interview after dropbox (I really was hoping this wouldn’t happen as dates were not looking favourable and I was not really ready to talk grammar).

Submitted my dropbox application(B2 only this time) in May and to my dismay I got called in for interview in June. First headache was trying to book interview date...I could see the dates but couldn’t book. Finally got it sorted and booked but earliest available date was a month away (longest wait of my life), even missed a conference at work because of the appointment date as I didn’t realise it was clashing (felt like an unserious employee trying to explain why I wouldn’t be going for the conference).

I kept logging on every day to read people’s transcripts, my husband was just laughing at me wondering why I was worrying. I was thinking all sorts...hope the money in my account would be enough…what if they ask why I didn’t come in for interview in 2015 or send change of intent letter etc. Last night I just had peace about today and felt I should just be thanking God.

Got to the embassy today and there was no queue in sight, kept wondering if I was in the right place. Went inside and it was the same thing...didn’t even have to wait to be called. Think it was a day for special interviews or something(migrant etc.)

Anyways, here’s how my interview went...

VO: Hello, how are you today?
Me: Fine, thank you...and you? (Smiling)
VO: I’m good, thanks...can I have your passport please?
Me: Here it is...do you need these too? (Showing him the 221G request and DS160 confirmation)
VO: No
VO: Have you been fingerprinted?
Me: I believe so...I’m here for a dropbox interview (that was what I was told to tell the officer when my appointment documents were checked)
VO: So why are you going to the US?
Me: Vacation and to have my baby
VO: When are you due?
Me: *Told him the month*
VO: When do you plan to go?
Me: *told him*
VO: What city are you going in the states?
Me: Boston, MA
VO: Who are you staying with?
Me: My aunt
VO: What do you do?
Me: *told him position and company*
VO: What do you do there?
Me: *Told him*
VO: So tell me about the company (international)
Me: *Told him what company does and headquarters and explained I work in the Nigerian subsidiary*
VO: So you’re like the Chief ***
Me: More or less (smiling because he made my role sound big)
VO: Ok...you’re the Head of ****
Me: Yes more like it (still smiling...and thinking that’s not what my employment letter says o...)
VO: And you earn ***** (confirming salary entered on my DS160 form)
Me: Yes I do
VO: So your husband is from ******* (non-African country)
Me: He was born there
VO: Really… (He looked puzzled)
Me: *So I just explained how it happened...parents studying there at the time blah blah blah…since it was now feeling more like conversation than interview*
VO: I see you visit the UK often? (Scanning through my passport)
Me: Yes I do...I studied there and go on vacation often to visit family
VO: What family?
Me: *told him immediate family...detailing which members*
VO: So I see you stayed 3 months the last time you were in US
Me: Yes I did
VO: What were you doing then?
Me: I went to have my first baby
VO: Did you use insurance?
Me: No
VO: Do you have any evidence to show you paid your bills
Me: Yes I do (passed him the zero balance statements without receipts)
VO: I see you got a 50% discount...why is that?
Me: It was because I was a cash-paying patient and this was prearranged before I left the country
VO: It’s really helpful that you brought these statements makes my job easier (scanning through the statements)
Me: You’re welcome (smiling)
Decided to explain that the documents includes OBGYN fees, hospital fees, pediatrician fees and prenatal tests (Quest Diagnostics). Also explained that Quest don’t give statements but there's a letter confirming I don’t have a balance with them and attached are all the invoices paid.
VO: What was the total cost?
Me: $8,400
VO: Ok...Would you be using the same doctor?
Me: Yes and same hospital
VO: Your visa has been approved... (Puts statements back together and passes them back)
Me: Thank you...
VO: Make sure you keep these statements safe and take them with you whenever you travel to the U.S
Me: I will, thanks
VO: You can pick up your passport at blah blah blah

I thank God it all ended in praise. Hope my post wasn't too long o.. smiley

I think you did the right thing declaring your true intentions at POE. You never know, it might have complicated things much later at the renewal stage. I've read scripts of people being denied because they did not state they were coming in for childbirth at POE even though they were not asked.

Fiwajoluwa:
This is my giving back post. i got pregnant last year and embarked on my missionary journey mid last year before then i had been to US twice and canada once. I still had valid visas at the time so didnt notify embassy on my intention to travel.

Fast forward i got in through Dulles Airport. MD and at this time i wasnt sure of hospital because again oversabi was worrying me. i had lan to either birth in NYC OR MD as i had people in both places.

Please note that i declared i came for child birth at the POE even though i was not noticed or asked about it. I have always maintained my truth whenever i needed to do anything because its always better you say the truth always. Though after i declared i was pregnant they sent me to immigration for second checking. That one lasted about 40mins

OFFICER - You said you are here for childbirth
Me - Thats correct (with my naija attitude)
officer - How much do you have on you
Me - huhhuh?
officer - How much is your hospital and doctors fee
Me - huhhuh
Officer - I see you have been here twice
Me - Yes
Officer - (Looking through my other visas on my passport) Why US
Me - I have more options here and would get better family support
officer - You can go. Please bring all your receipts when next you are coming and make sure you pay all your bills
Me - Thank you. i love your glasses.
officer - Thanks ma'am

Lesson learnt, dont declare if you are not asked cos i wasted about 40mins that was unnecessary

I gave birth in maryland and the bill came to about 25k plus because MD IS VERY EXPENSIVE. This was after scouting for hospitals for about two weeks so i njust had to settle for one.

Fast forward my contractions happened in the midnight and i was rushed to the hospital. I was forming "i must do natural' and even tho i started strong i got tired half way and they rushed me for CS which added to my bill

Lessons learnt, do CS. Save yourself stress of going through the vaginal birth pain and end up being rushed to emergency. Use epidural early enough too.

Stayed in the hospital for three days and left with my well baby girl

We got back to naija three months after delivery.

I Did dropbox for my visa renewal few months ago and was called for an interview. i showed them my zero balance and was eventually renewed

consular - Why do you want to go to the us
Me - Holiday
Consular - How long?
Me - 2weeks
consular - You declared you were pregnant when you visited the last time
me - Yes (Was quite surprised reason i said dont declare if you are not asked as i think it was why i was called for an interview after dropbox)
consular - Can i see your receipts
me - hands it over \
consular -( looks thoroughly and kept writing things down)Pick up your passport in two working days
Me - Thank you

I know i will have more questions at PoE again just because i couldnt keep shut. Though i wont change a thing. I will still keep speaking my truth everytime and everywhere

note- i was a first time mom

I bless God for the journey and divine provision

Please dont go to Maryland to birth, if you do, pls plan at least 30k for doctors, hospital etc.

Please feel free to ask me questions if you want because i got a lot of information on here while embarking on mine but truth is our experiences will always be unique.

THANK YOU ALL AND GOD BLESS

Supporting Documents for Applicants Seeking Medical Care
If you wish to travel to the U.S. for medical treatment, then you should be prepared to present the following documentation in addition to the documents listed above and those the consular officer may require:

A medical diagnosis from a local physician explaining the nature of your ailment and the reason you require treatment in the United States.
A letter from a physician or medical facility in the United States expressing a willingness to treat this specific ailment and detailing the projected length and cost of treatment (including doctors' fees, hospitalization fees, and all medical-related expenses).
A statement of financial responsibility from the individuals or organization paying for your transportation, medical and living expenses. The individuals guaranteeing payment of these expenses must provide proof of their ability to do so, often in the form of bank or other statements of income/savings or certified copies of income tax returns.

please what are the required documents to take to the embassy if you want to travel to US to give birth and pls need and hospital in corolado or denver.
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 10:12am On Jul 11, 2018
There's no rule that says you have to travel before you renew. I was in the same situation in 2016, I was issued a visa in Jan 2014 for holiday but never got to travel. Then found out I was pregnant in Jun 2015, renewed my visa via dropbox in Nov 2015 before expiry. I just applied now again via dropbox was asked to book a 221G appointment which I have not had yet.

You can renew before you travel but just have your documents ready in case you get called in.

tmd:
Don't try number 1, firstly I saw someone that was denied at the embassy when I went for my follow up interview based on That, the VO told her she stayed on with an expired visa, secondly what if the CBP officer does not stamp you in for 6months? It's not automatic that you are stamped in for 6months, I was stamped in for 4months sometimes because my passport was going to expire and have read less than 6months on this thread also.
In my opinion, if you are very buoyant, go for 1 week or 10days vacation this summer, then do drop box applying for medical visa when you get back.
All the best.

I just called the UStraveldocs number(01 440 6218) again and was finally able to book a 221G appointment. Would suggest you do same if you can. You would need to specify that the appointment is 221G so you can get priority dates. All the best!

I read it was 10kg too and was told 10kg as well when i booked the infant ticket on the phone. So i packed 10kg and was slightly overweight on my other suitcases.

When i got to check-in in America, the lady said i would have to pay excess on my other two suitcases but i had 23kg for the infant. So i just asked to her to give me sometime to repack. Actually had to go and buy a travelling bag to do this. So I ended up checking in 3 23kg bags and her carseat and had 4 hand luggage(diaper bag is treated same as handbag) plus pushchair.

The second time, I was going to the UK, didn't need the 23kg when i was going but coming back i checked in the 3 23kg and nothing was said.

I think it's 23kg for their long haul flights.

Petdaughter:
Hmm. How did you do that? KLM is 10kg for infant
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by Ebony84: 2:55pm On Apr 30, 2018
I've used KLM with my baby twice and checked in one 23kg suitcase for her both times. I personally prefer KLM.

Marylandmama:
I will say British Airways. Although it all depends on the trip duration and layover.

But when it comes to infant luggage allowance, British airways gives 23kg while KLM /Airfrance gives just 10kg.
Its left for u to decide.

Can you and @Chibertha please help with Quest Diagnostics? After so much back and forth in the last 2 yrs, they refused to honour the hospital discount. Had to pay $1700 for the prenatal tests done, now they can't provide me with a zero-balance stmt. I paid over the phone too so no receipts.

Can you please advise if there's a way around it?

simbolee:
Here to give back to this wonderful forum. Had my interview today @ 8:00am in Lagos.

Got my first B1/B2 visa in October 2015 for vacation and later used it to birth my baby in August 2016. Entered Texas June 25th, 2016 and spent 4months and 2weeks. No change of intent letter but I declared at the point of entry. Didn't know about zero balance or itemized billing until I read it here. Went into panic mode and started making calls.

Fast forward to my interview
VO: Good morning and please pass your passport.
Me: Good morning (Passes passport)
VO: Where in the US are you going?
Me: Orlando, Florida.
VO: Do you have anybody in Florida.
Me: No, but I have in other states.
VO: That means you're going to Disney.
Me: Yes
VO: Is anyone going with you.
Me:Yes my daughter.
VO: Have you travelled before (he saw my previous visa o)
Me: Yes 2ce to the US
VO: What did you go there for?
Me: 1st for vacation 3weeks and the 2nd time for child birth 4months
VO: Okay, I see you have paid( don't know what he meant), do you have your receipts and can I see them.
Me: Yes I do (Passes everything include expenditure sheet, receipts, zero balance, itemized bill)
VO: flips through not scrutinized though, hands them back. What does your husband do?
Me: he's into farming and blablabla
VO: Does he have a valid US visa
Me: No
VO: Will he be traveling with you.
Me: No
VO: Why is he not going with you.
Me: This is planting season for him so he would not be available for travel.
VO: Why not wait till he's available
Me: My annual leave is during summer so I won't be available when he's ready.
VO: What does your husband do? ( Was surprised since I had stated it earlier.
Me: repeated same thing I said before.
VO: okay, make sure you have your receipts with you when traveling. Pick up your visa at your choosen place . Have a nice day
Me: thank you and have a nice day too.

Thank you all for your guidance.
@chibertha thanks for the help with Quest Diagnostics.
