A non-governmental organisation, Peace Ambassador Agency (PAA), has picked Miss Oluchi Madubuko, 21, an undergraduate, as the winner of its “2016 Miss Ambassador for Peace” beauty pageant.

She defeated 23 other contestants at the event held on Saturday night at the Sheraton Hotels, Abuja.

The contestants are drawn from 24 states in the six geo-political zones of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

PAA said the Abia state-born beauty queen will serve as Ambassador of Peace, preaching the message of peaceful and united Nigeria during her one-year reign as a peace ambassador.

The first and second runners up were also crowned Miss Peace Ambassador Nigeria and Miss Peace Ambassador Africa respectively to work with the new queen in the peace advocacy of the organisation.

Miss Chiamaka Chukwura, who represented the FCT Won Miss Ambassador for Peace International, Ufondu Anastasia won Miss Ambassador for Peace Africa and Miss Oriunu Faith, representing Nasarawa State, became the Face of Peace Ambassador Agency

In her remarks, Madubuko a 400-level Mass Communication student of Abia State University, pledged to make her reign a success.

“I am very excited I won the crown, and I promise to make good use of this opportunity given to me by Peace Ambassador Agency.

“It has been my desire to be an agent of national peace. I will use this platform as an opportunity to fulfil that dream.

“I will work hard in collaboration with the organisation to promote tribal and religious tolerance among Nigerians,’’ she said.

The contest was a night of fun, comedy and music for Nigerians of different class who witnessed the fifth edition of the annual event.

Miss Ambassador for Peace/Peace Achievers Awards which started in 2012 is a flagship event of the organisation in its quest for promoting national peace and unity.

Mr Kingsley Amafibe, the Project Director explained that the initiative was aimed at creating awareness on the need to promote peace as a veritable tool for national development.

“This has been a vehicle through which we carry the message of peace across Nigeria.

“We, as an agency, have sought peace and we have preached peace through this unique platform that we have taken to different states and communities.

“The peace education campaign, which is targeted mainly at the youth, has reached institutions of higher learning and other youth communities through the Peace Ambassador project,’’ Amafibe said.

He noted that the organisation, in promoting oneness and national harmony, had embarked on donating relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons across Nigeria and Africa.

Veteran Nollywood Actor Kenneth Okonkwo and Tonto Dike have been Awarded with the "Peace Achievers Awards 2016" by the Peace Ambassador Agency (PAA), an association that advances national peace and joining.

The pair got the honors at the fifth commemoration of the yearly Miss Ambassador for Peace and Peace Achievers Awards held in Abuja on Sunday.

Kenneth Okonkwo, a premier Nollywood performing artist, got the 'On-screen character of the Year Award', while Tonto Dike got the 'On-screen character of the Year Award'.

As indicated by Mr Kinsley Amafibe, the Project Director of PAA, the diversion stars are perceived for their massive commitments to the development of the film business, which has made employments for some Nigerian young people.

Queen Josephine Igoche the reigning Miss Ambassador for peace North central empowers over 500 youths in sporting activities and also awarded scholarships to two of the best students from a quiz competition organized by her at the Gboko Memorial school Akpegada Otukpo Benue state.


The Miss Ambassador for Peace North Central, Queen Josephine Igoche, has advised youths to partake in activities that would boost peaceful coexistence and advance socio-economic values of the society.

Igoche made this known on Saturday in Otukpo local government council of Benue at the David Marks' Golf Tournament organized by her which also featured a peace talk and a quiz competition at Gboko Memorial School.

The beauty Queen explained that she intended to use pageantry as a platform to encourage sports and educate the younger generation on the need for peaceful coexistence in a bid to minimize conflict and criminality in the society.

" Apart from trade, sports helps to keep youths off the streets; the intention is to make them understand that the value of physical fitness as well broadening the scope of their friendships."

She said a lot could be achieved through sports as a medium for social and economic transformation.

The peace envoy advised parents to monitor their children's company to save them from bad friends.

"If more of sporting, peace talks and entrepreneur skills are encouraged and sponsored,we won't have idle hands involved in crime and violence," she added.

She also called for sponsorship of youth sporting activities by corporate organizations to enhance their talents.

Some of the dignitaries at the event included the former Minister of Interior, Mr Abba Moro, Mr Latty Adoga, the Controller of passport in Edo State and the Ochi Idoma,Elias Obekpa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that after the peace talk and golf tournament various prizes such as Mobile phones, Lamps, Kettles, Pressing Irons, copies of the Holy Bible, glass jugs, glass cups, bags and Queen Josephine Igoche writing materials were presented to winners.
