Politics › Oshiomhole Updates President Buhari, Says God Will See Him Through (Pictures) by EcoBrick(op): 8:51pm On Mar 05, 2020 |
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has updated President Muhammadu Buhari on the activities of the party including his purported suspension and subsequent reinstatement by separate Courts.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oshiomhole was on Wednesday suspended from office by an FCT High Court presided over by Justice Danlami Senchi
However, a Federal High Court sitting in Kano, presided over by Justice Lewis Allagoa, on Thursday set aside the Wednesday’s interim injunction of Justice Senchi and subsequently voided the suspension of APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. In his ruling, Justice Allagoa ordered the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Service (DSS) to provide security for Oshiomhole to resume in his office.
Oshiomhole, who spoke to State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with the President, expressed optimism that God would see him through the current legal and political upheaval, describing himself as “a child of light who will always defeat darkness’’.

He said: “I thought that I had a duty to brief Mr President as the overall leader of our party about this development. Incidentally when I requested for the audience yesterday, I wasn’t sure what has happened today will happen.
“But I had a duty to inform him about the court order. But happily before coming here, the order from a Federal High Court that has made nonsense of what the FCT court purported to have done has already settled the question.
“And I showed to the president the resolutions of my ward even though a ward executive does not have the powers to remove a national chairman, just to say that the document that we have says clearly that my ward passed vote of confidence on me.
How the court can hold vote of confidence and twist it to me as vote of no confidence, only that judge can explain it to himself.
“But the good news is that this is not a final court nor is it the only court, incidentally it is just the court that didn’t have the jurisdiction even to listen to this matter. And our lawyers so pointed it out but the judge was determined to obliged those who want to destabilise the All Progressive Congress.’’
Oshiomhole, who fingered a serving minister and some governors as being his ordeal in the party, allegedly accused Edo State Governor and some of his supporters of jubilating over the Wednesday’s FCT High Court ruling.
“Let me also say that those behind this plot, the hands you saw which includes as you saw yesterday; you saw the Edo State governor and his people jubilating.
“But that is the irony of life that you will help give birth to a child and the child look for cutlass to want to chop off your neck,’’ he lamented.

Health › Mexico Confirms Three Coronavirus Cases In Three Men Returned From Italy by EcoBrick(op): 8:17am On Feb 29, 2020 |
MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Mexico’s government said on Friday it had detected three cases of coronavirus infection in three men who had all recently traveled to Italy, making the country the second in Latin America to register the fast-spreading virus.
The first case is a 35-year-old man who showed positive in an initial test in Mexico City also test positive in a second test early on Friday, Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez-Gatell Ramirez told a news conference.
That man was linked to the second case, a 41-year-old in the northern state of Sinaloa, Lopez-Gatell told reporters, speaking alongside President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
Health officials confirmed the third case, a man who had traveled with the other two, at another news conference late on Friday but said all three cases were imported and that there was so far no evidence of human-to-human transmission in the country.
President Lopez Obrador urged the population to remain calm.
“We have the capacity to handle this situation,” he said. “Because according to the information available, this is not something terrible, really bad.”
Mexico’s main stock index suffered one of its biggest falls in months, tumbling more than 4% in morning trading, while the peso fell by more than 1% against the dollar.
The three men confirmed with coronavirus were in Italy for about a week in mid-February, and likely became infected at a convention in the northern city of Bergamo, the government said.
All three were being held in isolation, Lopez-Gatell said, and officials are observing five family members in isolation.
The Mexico City resident had light, cold-like symptoms and was at low risk, he added. However, the man in Sinaloa did not show symptoms, Sinaloa’s health minister Efren Encinas said at a separate news conference.
For now, there are no grounds for closing schools or having people stay away from their workplaces, Lopez-Gatell said.
“There’s absolutely no reason at this point,” he added. “There is no generalized transmission.”
Still, Lopez-Gatell recommended that people refrain from light hugs and kisses on the cheek that are commonplace greetings in Mexico. Brazil was the first country in Latin America to report a case of the new coronavirus. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-mexico/mexico-confirms-three-coronavirus-cases-in-three-men-returned-from-italy-idUSKCN20M20A

I also think that as this point, as a matter of urgency, the Nigerian FG should release the flight details of the Corona Virus carrier to the public, that way everyone else that came into close contact with him on that flight would be well aware of their risk of exposure and consequently go into self-quarantine to forestall further spread of the virus. |

by Ebunoluwa Olafusi
Ganduje announced the decision during the launch of Basic Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) and distribution of offer of appointment to 7,500 volunteer teachers, which held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Tuesday.
The governor lamented over the “ugly situation”, saying the decision is part of his administration’s effort to fully actualise the free and compulsory primary and secondary school education and integrate the Almajiri system to the policy.
He said the new policy will give the almajiris, child beggars, other types of education.
He added that while they will continue to acquire their knowledge of the Holy Qur’an, the kids would also learn English and Arithmetic.
The governor explained that such will give them the opportunity to continue with their studies to secondary school level and beyond.
“This policy of free and compulsory basic and secondary education goes along with it integration of our Almajiri system into the mainstream policy implementation which suggests that English and Arithmetic must be included in the Almajiri schools curriculum,” Ganduje said.
“That will give them an opportunity to continue with their studies to secondary schools and beyond.”
He said teachers under the almajiri school arrangement must accept the new approach or leave the state.
“If you think you can not accept that then you leave the state,” he said.
“When Almajiri are caught begging, it is not only that beggar is caught, but their parents or guardians would be taken to court for disrespecting our laws.”
The governor took the action less than a week after Muhammadu Sanusi, emir of Kano, called for the arrest of the fathers who send out their children to beg. Mynd44, Lalasticlala

hargbolahan01: that's our problem in Nigeria...we are always against great idea....are you happy with how thugs collect money from drivers and give it to head thugs while they spend lavishly and govt don't have money for basic amenities..... this is just a way to get for govt and stop diverting money to private pocket You obviously didn't comprehend the crux of my point, which is that Seyi is just distracting himself with his arbitrary policies lately. From his handling of the local government crisis to the confiscation of lands, to this park management one. It is obvious that he is just creating needless problems for his administration when he ought to be tackling more pressing issues that will enable his administration stabilise and deliver on its mandate. If he continues like this before you know it 4-yrs will be up, and don't be surprised that the same Seyi will start to court the same NURTW 'thugs' as foot soldiers for reelection purposes. Everyone knows that NURTW thugs worked for PDP during the election that brought him to power and up till today a considerable number of the PDP thugs are NURTW members. If peradventure he loses reelection someone else can come and hand the management of the parks back to the same NURTW so we would be back to square one again. He should get down to the serious task of governance instead of these distractions because Oyo people don't have that much patience for frivolities. Time is of the essence. |
Politics › Re: Oyo State Government Releases Names Of Park Managers by EcoBrick: 8:55am On Feb 16, 2020 |
The problem I see with this move by Governor Seyi is that it is not sustainable in the long run because he won't be governor forever. This continuity problem is responsible for the stunted growth in our society, and more so in Oyo State in particular. There is nothing these so-called park managers will do that the NURTW couldn't have been compelled to do by the governor himself.
Every new administration keeps creating new policies, by fiat, often based on political considerations. Only for the next administration to come in, dismantle, and create its own. So you end up with a situation of one step forward and 3 steps backwards. No society can ever make enduring progress with such practise.
By alienating a well-entrenched NURTW (that cannot be wished away by him whether he likes it or not), he is setting the stage for even more future crises. Whether he likes it or not the NURTW will always be stakeholders in the state's transportation sector as is the case everywhere in the country. He should have regulated them and brought them under his influence in order to achieve his aims instead of proscribing them and then creating his own set of 'managers' by fiat, without even being backed by law. |
