The house of representatives member representing Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency, Hon. Akin Alabi has revealed that he is awaiting the approval of the ministry of health to build his own COVID-19 test centre in the state.

Akin Alabi, who disclosed while speaking on Fresh FM COVID-19 situation room program, stated that his decision to build a test centre was necessitated by the need to increase testing in the state.

He said, “The governor is making progress, making people to resume is negative because if you are doing well by trying to increase testing but still pushing people out which is going to increase the risk. I have plans actually to launch a testing centre in Ibadan, still waiting for Oyo state ministry of Health for approval.
“We are ready, but, we have been on the approval for weeks, we have not gotten it yet, that is why I said we can’t afford to play politics with this thing.”

Speaking on why the approval for the test centre must come from the state government and not the NCDC, he said,”To domicile it in Oyo state, the state must give us approval. We have been assured that it would be approved. I am tired of sharing rice, there is more to this disease.
“I know it is probably not the governor himself that is saying they shouldn’t approve but you know people can be overzealous sometimes. So, now that it is out, I believe that will speed up things and give us approval so that we can start running our own testing.”

Unlike, majority of lawmakers in the state, Akin Alabi also revealed that some of his constituents have benefited from the palliative of the federal government.

“100 per cent, yeah, I was even following up to make sure that these people get their money. But, one thing I have said on social media on the issue of palliative is, it is a thing that is supposed to be done across all levels of government, for example, look at the state government, not just Oyo state, all the states of the federation, personal income tax is paid to the state government, so, this is the time for the state government to show Nigerians the benefit of paying your personal income tax.”

He, however, noted that not everyone can receive it because it can’t reach everywhere.

It's exactly this unfair insight that is the big matter. I don't think Africans understand the concept of representative governance YET. It's service; no advantage should be gained before or after. Most western politicians play this game too, but in a different way. They start giving highly-paid lectures to corporations and writing books, but they do not go on to become billionaires from their insights. In fact, companies that benefit from your tenure in any way cannot pay/hire them. They also have to file a special form with the IRS for these speeches, so the IRS can check impropriety. Tell me, what is Tinubu's exact business? Which lecture has he given and how much was he paid? Who seeded his first (and clearly money spinning business) outside office? Is it an entity that benefited from his tenure as governor? Until we start answering these questions, I'm afraid we are going nowhere.

The federal lawmaker representing Surulere 1 federal constituency, Femi Gbajabiamila has deplored different methods to reach out to different segments of constituents in the 2nd phase of his COVID 19 /Ramadan constituency intervention.

The method for selection include using the Community Development Associations, Ward Structure, Vulnerable groups such as aged, physically challenges etc. to reach out to 16,300 ”Vulnerable” Households , of which each household averagely has 3 family members implying 48,900 beneficiaries in the Surulere 1 federal constituency. The CDAs, Resident Associations and Wards identified the ”vulnerable and less privileged” in their neighborhood, between Sunday, April 12, 2020, and Tues. April 28, 2020, upon which a list of 16,300 households spread across the wards were presented to Constituency Office of Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (List of nominated Household representatives / distribution chart to be published for transparency and records purposes)

In each of the sealed 16,300 food packs are :
1. 5kg of Rice
2. 5kg of Beans
3. A Bottle of Groundnut Oil (Power Oil)
4. 2 sachets of Tomato � Mix Paste

In addition, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has also raised a Cash Support System to complement the other methods. The sum of 12million naira will be shared to identified elderly persons, widows, pensioners, youths and less privileged persons. It is believed that this method will also cater for those who may not be part of the beneficiaries of the food packs.

In the first Phase of Palliatives Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila gave out N95 Protective Face masks, 400bags of rice and 10Million Naira cash across Constituency 1 and 2.

I stand with my party on this. With the deaths and increasing cases, Buhari should swallow his pride and rescind the easing of lockdown directive. Buhari and APC should be held responsible for the deaths that occur as a result of COVID-19 after the lockdown is lifted.

Oyo state NLC chairman, Comrade Adebayo Titilola-Sodo, said the Union will not accept a reduction in the salaries of the Oyo state workers, adding that the labour leaders believe that Governor Seyi Makinde will not join those planning to execute pay cut for workers.

Titilola-Sodo made this know on Friday, in commemoration of the Workers’ Day.

The event which held at Labour House, American Quarters, Ibadan was attended by top government functionaries and top labour leaders in the state

Also speaking, the Oyo state TUC chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Ogundiran, said in this difficult times, Labour leaders expect the government not to focus on profit but on sustaining livelihood of people such that all will survive the pandemic.

On his part, the Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo state chapter, Comrade Olusegun Abatan, urged all affiliate unions and state branches to resist any deduction in salary.

According to The Economist, among the 66 selected emerging countries with financial exposure, Nigeria is number 14 on the list, and second to only to Botswana in Africa.

It published a document listing 66 selected emerging economies ranked on four measures of financial strength.

The standard of rating include:

Public debt % of GDP
Foreign debt 2020
Cost of borrowing, and,
Reserve cover

The ten most favourably disposed include Botswana, Taiwan, South Korea, Peru, Russia, Philippines, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, and China.

Concerning Botswana, an analyst stated:

“Botswana will be at the top; loaded with diamond wealth, only 2.2 million population and the same party in power for 60 years.”

Concerning South Africa, which is 47th on the list, he said:

“In South Africa the struggle becomes more obvious with 58 million [in population] stringent policies on beneficiation.”

Comparing the two countries, he said: “Botswana is the same, you just don’t see it on paper.”

The medium also counted Zambia, Angola, Tunisia, Gabon, Ghana, South Africa, Senegal, Kenya, Ethiopia and Uganda as the top 10 of those in Africa with most difficulties.

Taking into cognizance Ghana, South Africa and Kenya top the list of African countries with most difficulties and comparing them with Nigeria, another analyst said:

I'm suggesting to you that they had the chance to put serious pressure on the Zoohari FG to close the borders AND do compulsory 14 days isolation for anyone entering the country from abroad. They could have built a quarantine center right there at the Lagos airport, even if na with covered tents like the type some event centers and churches use.. If they had used the same sense that they used in forming Amotekun to pressure the devils in Abuja, Lagos for no have 1000 cases by now, na few cases they will have and those few will be in isolation center without chance of infecting others and causing community spread, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Lagos would not be having community spread right now, because community spread that is happening is the biggest problem about this coronavirus now. Southwest Governors are still jonsing themselves but with one solid move, Zoohari and his cabal effectively has crippled their ambition for presidency in 2023. I believe it was intentional that they kept the border window open long enough for the virus to enter the Southwest, knowing fully well that Lagos is the major gateway to this country. And from Lagos the thing will penetrate the south but thank God governors in the SE and SS were quick to shut their doors. Only a quick cure from America can save the Southwest now. Because there's no way the region can mobilize it's resources and manpower to fight Covid-19 and fight for presidency at the same time. Buhari played a fast one on them. One month already and see how much billions in critical revenue Lagos has lost because of the Coronavirus. And that commissioner and health minister were just giving Governor Sanwo fake hope that they were prepared and can handle it. 1000 patients same people that were boasting the virus is nothing, they are prepared, they can handle it, yen yen yen, they are already crying they are struggling for bed space. Thank God Lagos Governor is waking up now. May God give you the wisdom and grace to navigate Lagos from this problem but next time just knkow that the North FG is not your friend. Dem b enemies in disguise.
