The approval for the Southwest security outfit code-named “Operation Amotekun” was on Wednesday approved by the Ogun State Government.

The approval took effect at the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s office, Oke Mosan secretariat, Abeokuta.

This latest report is nothing but the truth. When I first heard that Nigeria had become the poverty capital of the world I immediately knew that dismal indices from the North was the reason for that. The Northern part of Nigeria is a manufacturing ground for poverty, and when you juxtapose that with the pervasive illiteracy and unbridled practice of polymamy in those parts, then you will understand why that part of the country will continue to influence such uncomplimentary ratings for the country.

Only a stupid business would revolve its business around one state alone. Is Lagos the only state in Nigeria? No serious business would do such. Lagos population is just roughly 10% of Nigeria's estimated total population. Unless they are trying to tell us that Lagos is the only place in Nigeria where Okada business can thrive. Those against the LASG move should should relocate to other states that are more receptive to bike hailing. Simple.

Bro, the regulation you speak of is easier said than done. These okada people had turned Lagos to the Okada capital of Africa. Like Jimi himself acknowledged, these riders pose a serious security risk which even the police have demonstrated their inability to effectively manage, not to mention the extortionist angle on the police' part as well. Strange people from God knows where (some say from as far away as Chad and Mali) just enter Lagos in truckloads solely for Okada business. Last time I checked, Lagos isn't the only state in Nigeria. There are similar bans in effect in some other states and the riders from such states just pack themselves in trucks and enter Lagos for Okada business. It may be a bitter pill to swallow for now but I believe Lagosians would adjust to it.

Akeredolu is sounding more and more like he is trying to court public sympathy for his reelection bid. Upon all his talks, how many people came out in Ondo to show solidarity for Amotekun? Osun and Ekiti pulled more crowd than his backyard. He should stop making noise already.

I think the reason why we cant use our strategic importance to our advantage, as you put it, is because currently the SW APC has been rendered weak and useless by the Buhari faction of the party. Shortly after winning election in 2015, Buhari and his loyalists set out to ensure that the SW wing would become factionalized via divide and conquere tactics, in order to weaken the region's ability to present a unified front. This they achieved by empowering certain disgruntled elements within the SW faction to confront the erstwhile political establishment.

This move was a fantastically strategic success in its execution because now the SW APC can no longer speak with one voice and the major actors view each other with suspicion. Tinubu, who was the erstwhile central go-to person in the SW, was the target of that assault and it succeeded. Buhari used divide and rule tactics to decimate and render the SW APC impotent and almost useless when it comes to asserting itself politically, sotay our people are willing to now settle for crumbs from Abuja. That is primarily why Buhari can make crazy and nepotistic appointments without giving a damn about a SW APC that is supposed to be its alliance partner.

By implication, the region can no longer speak with one voice politically. In fact, I reckon that the situation is so bad now that we would be better off in opposition because at least we showed more focus and united front while in opposition.

As for Tinubu's silence, to be honest with you I can't blame him. First rule of survival in politics is self-preservation, and in this regard Tinubu probably knows and understands Buhari's mind better than any other politician in Nigeria today. Tinubu has way too many enemies both within and outside Yorubaland and the APC/PDP, who are just waiting for him to confront Buhari so the latter can have a perfect excuse to decimate him.

Buhari has shown his willingness to be ruthless towards those he considers his foes (a la Sowore, Kanu, Dasuki et al), and if there's anyone that he would love an excuse to disgrace, it is none other than Tinubu. But being a veteran politician that has lived long enough to draw from the experiences of past Yoruba politicians (e.g, Awolowo, Akintola, etc) in their relations with the Northerners, I think Tinubu is currently being strategic in his utterances and conduct. Yorubas would say 'Okun o ki'n wo ruru k'a wa ruru'. Recall that at a point he was under watch by the DSS when the presidency felt he was plotting against their interests during Bubu's first tenure. I am sure he learned a lot from that experience.

If Tinubu heeds the call of those frenemies calling on him to be confrontational towards Buhari today, and then consequently the latter decides to move against him as a result (Abacha style), there is no doubt he will end up getting the MKO treatment.

My hope and prayer is that APC breaks up after Buhari's tenure so that another pro-SW party with clout emerges from its carcass that can champion the region's interests, because as it stands, all the major SW APC actors (including Tinubu) have either become compromised or rendered impotent and useless.

Infact at this point I won't mind an Atiku presidency if he will truly restructure the country to an extent because the way it is looking, Yorubas will never have enough clout to influence any major policy direction under an APC that is beholden to the cult of Buhari. Kole ever werk.

Investigation showed that the governors notified the President about the launch of Operation Amotekun through the “appropriate quarters.”

They went ahead with the launch when there were no words from the President against it or raising security issues.

Despite the misgivings on Operation Amotekun, the governors are awaiting Buhari’s invitation to present the true picture of situation to him instead of relying on some false reports.

I said in an earlier post that I was almost certain that Fayemi and the SW governors must have informed Buhari and his people about Amotekun before it launched and consequently got the greenlight to go ahead with it. Fayemi is too close to Buhari and the presidency not to have done that. But perhaps he and the others got carried away and overestimated their rapport with Buhari, failing to realize that in this power game, Yorubas are dispensable at will to Buhari and his cabal.

Buhari showed this much to Amosun (whom everyone knows is very close to him) at a point in time. He didn't hesitate to ditch him when Amosun needed him the most because Buhari himself was seeking reelection at the time and didn't want to stick his neck out for anyone.

Tinubu has also faced similar and even worse treatment from Buhari and his handlers but I think he is adapting to the nuances of the power game and keeping his intentions to himself because the same Yoruba people that think they are close to Buhari are ready to betray and demystify Tinubu to please the cabal in a heartbeat.

As for Fayemi, I hope that this will be a lesson for him going forward. Now he will know that Buhari and his cabal have no permanent Yoruba friends in this power game, except pawns that can be used against their own kinsmen when the need arises, only to be made to look stupid afterward.

We Yorubas are yet to learn some lessons in our dealings with the Northerners. National politics is essentially a power game which, due to being away from the centre for long, our people are yet to master. But the smart ones are taking notes.

This is a welcome development. Let the supreme Court settle this issue once and for all and tell us why the North can enjoy privileges that it refuses to allow the South to likewise enjoy. Hisbah is permitted to exist and operate in more than two states in the North (particularly the North West), yet the FG is frowning at Amotekun's regional character. This hypocrisy must end.

The major route from south west to Abuja ( Kabba-Obajana road in Kogi state ) is now kidnappers and armed robbers den. We need Amotekun on this particular route.

That would be improbable for now unless the Yorubas in those states themselves come out and vocally express such. Yorubas are very two-faced so this matter has to handled delicately. Don't be surprised if some kwarans will start claiming that such a move as the one you are suggesting is an attempt of the SWesterners to land-grab.
