cbn4main: I am about to apply for Msc in Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford UK. Gurus in the house, is there any reason why it is not appropriate in terms of student life, job opportunities and the quality of university. The university is located in East Anglia, very close to London. I have seen cheap and nice accommodations of £550 or so. Tuition is £14,300, which isn't bad. So guys, please is there something I don't know about. Tuition deposit is 60%. |

Joyousgem: I agree with most of your points. The PSW permit is not new, I have few friends in Scotland who benefited from the scheme pre 2011. You are right in saying that majority of them went back as they could not find jobs.
That said, i think it's easier for couples to afford the rest of the fees because the dependent can work without restrictions on hours of work allowed unlike the main applicant during term time. Also there are other possibilities to switch visa category for either the student or dependent. Couples who have Kids above school age 5 will cope as little childcare would be needed during term time. The cost of putting children in nursery can be crippling, so I can understand bringing a parent in to help as the savings can go towards school fees.
However, single applicants who haven't paid a big chunk of their school fees before enrolment (or have it saved already) will struggle, as 20hrs a week is just going to cover your cost of living. Where will school fees come from? If you happen to have well settled family members in the UK that can help, you may be fine. I have helped a few friends with securing admissions, and I keep preaching that 20hrs will not solve the problem, just being realistic.
I have lost track of the number of links friends have sent me to contribute to help students from Nigeria who can't pay their school fees, because of unforseen circumstances. I will advise people coming through the study route to plan properly and do your costings. The last thing you want is to be stranded.
Also, PSW fees is high and extortionate combined with health surcharge too. Imagine the cost for a whole family of 4 or 5.
The study route is a great opportunity for families and singles alike as approval rates are high, we just have to plan well. Without proper planning, students will start defaulting on their payment to their prospective universities. These universities are obligated to report to UKBA. It is only a matter of time before schools start demanding higher deposits or full payment. We should not ruin it for others. Best response so far... this is why I can't risk bringing my kid yet, I can move with my wife. After settlement then come for my kid( only when your guardian is trustworthy; in my case my parents). Moreso, every kid have their own destiny irrespective of whether they were brought up in the western world or not. Majority will still prefer to bring up their child in this country, you can't compare that African mentality of utmost respect parents get from kids here to westerners. In summary, planing is the KEY. Know your budget and decide base on your pocket size..my 2 cent! God will favor us all !!! |

fatimar5: 16000 euros is a bit high though
I think you should check out some of the grand ecole schools though. I just got admitted to one with 5500 euros per year and paying by installment is allowed.
Well mine was a masters degree
For those interested the second cycle of application is now open Thanks. How did you apply? Did you apply through campus France? I didn't bother to pay the 50k cause those cause I applied last year was too high with tuition. I need cheaper fees |

Anyone from Staffordshire here? Present or past students, please I've just been offered unconditional offer. I want to know if there's a precas interview and pof before Cas is issued.
How's the accommodation and general cost of living? Is it affordable?
Any input will be very much appreciated thanks |

I've had conditional offers from these schools
RGU Sunderland Cumbria Staffordshire Edinburgh York St John
But I'm a bit confused which is better to follow up. Sunderland, statffordshire and RGU seem economical. But I don't know other infos as regard to accommodations and cost of living. Also I intend to travel with my wife as dependent, we have a son but I don't think I can afford to bring him now. Is there any effect to this? Can I bring him maybe after some months.
Please help a brother, I seriously need advice on this. I'll appreciate your help |

How's life generally in Sunderland I got an offer there, but I'm skeptical about it. Heard it's a dead place to live, how true is this?
As a student, can I get job there easily? |

Zoey1: Going to an affordable school is one thing, being able to support your remaining expenses via jobs is another thing. Sunderland, No biggie. Only your school can confirm if you would have a pre-cas interview or not. If you do , it goes a long way in helping with your visa interview. Please enlighten me more. Are you saying it's difficult to get job around Sunderland axis? Since 50% is a clause, can't I pay the other balance in installment? |

cutebear: Wait o….for school you will need your school fees, your travel money and also enough money for accommodation & feeding of the 2 of you for 1 year (that is if you are going for masters). How much is your school fees in pounds? Bro. I'm new to all this I wanted to apply for her but she insisted I go to skul while she work. With 7m can't we start somewhere, since I'll be working 20hrs a week. She can assist me with skul fees and some bills too. I have someone there who will accommodate us for like a month before we settle. So would 7m go thru for us as a start. We can both be working to sort out bills and other expenses when we get there |
