One of the great rewards that God has bestowed upon our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for His suffering on the Cross is that at the name of Jesus, every other name should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, as all power has been given unto Him in heaven and in earth.

Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, opened blind eyes, cleansed lepers and freed sinners from the bondage and consequences of sin during His earthly ministry. Here in our text, a dumb victim of Satan had been freed and the devil cast out of him by Jesus. As the dumb spake, hostile and misguided unbelieving elements attributed the healing to the power of Beelzebub which they said Jesus used.

The Scriptures make it clear that unpardonable sin consisted in the denial of God’s power through the Holy Spirit in the healing process. And worse still is to attribute such miraculous healing and deliverance to Satan. How can Satan cast out Satan and thus divide his house and ultimately cause its fall? There is a power stronger than Satan’s: the power in the name and blood of Jesus.

Are you one of the doubters of the power of Jesus to heal, deliver and free the vilest of sinners from the consequences of sin? You can be free today only if you can believe, acknowledge your sins, confess them and accept the Lord Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour. Every believer needs a profound, yet sublime, revelation of that Name to be able to appropriate the fullness of God’s blessings therefrom.

FG Approves FIRS Recruitment Of 7,500 Graduates and 5,000 Non Graduates as Tax Liaison Officers to Boost Nigeria Economy


The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has announced plans by Nigerian government to recruit 7,500 graduates as Community Tax Liaison Officers to raise tax awareness among citizens thereby increasing the number of tax payers.

Adeosun, along with the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr BabaTunde Fowler made this known at a joint media briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

This move according to Adeosun has become necessary owning to the very low number of persons captured in Nigeria’s Tax Database.

FIRS on August 29th commences recuirtment of Tax Liaison Officers .

-DEUTERONOMY 21:1-9

KEY VERSE:

"So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 21:9).

Evil practices, blood-letting, primordial and bestial practices demean men and poison communal space. In the Old Testament, when a crime was committed and the criminal went away, the whole community was held responsible. God was pointing to the need for the whole community to feel a keen sense of responsibility for what was going on around them and to move to correct situations that were potentially harmful either physically, socially or morally. Although the people were innocent of the act, the elders must still ask the Lord’s forgiveness for the shedding of innocent blood. And an honest attempt must be made to seek for justice. The elders represented the citizens at large. The judges, magistrates and priests from the nearest town of priest were likewise to be at hand. Thus, all classes would be represented at the purging away of that blood-guiltiness which until removed, was attached to the whole community. The requirement as regards place and victim are symbolic. The heifer represented the murderer, to die in his stead, since he could not be found. The heifer must be of full growth and strength, and must not have been ceremonially profaned by human use. Priests in the old covenant stood as intermediaries between God and man. The priesthood was God’s gift to Israel, for without the priest, the people could not approach God. As long as the priests and Levites obeyed the rule, there would be no judgment against the people.

The priestly ministry was a sacred matter, for if the priests did not follow God’s instruction, they might die. They were not also to permit a stranger to come near the tabernacle of the congregation. God held Aaron and his sons responsible for offences committed against the sanctuary and the priesthood.

There is however, a tremendous contrast between the priesthood of Aaron in the Old Testament and the priesthood of Christ in the New Testament. Aaron and his descendants were the only ones who could carry out the duties of the priests and approach God’s dwelling place. Now that Christ is our High Priest - our intermediary with God, anyone who follows Him is also called a priest (1 Peter 2:5,9). In the Old Testament times, people did not approach God directly. A priest acted as intermediary between God and the sinful man. With Christ’s victory on the Cross, that changed. Now we can come directly into God’s presence without fear and we are given the responsibility of bringing others to Him also (Hebrews 4:16; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21).

As members of His body, true Christians are joined in His priestly work of reconciling men unto God. Therefore, every Christian is to arise as the royal priest of Christ and judiciously make use of this priestly office such that sinners can be reconciled unto God and spared the trauma of everlasting torment.
