When Jesus spoke of the Son of man coming in the clouds (kingdom), He was using prophetic idioms of Old Testament prophets. We don't understand that kind of language because we live 20 centuries after the resurrection of Christ. But the Jews of 20 centuries ago understood him clearly.
Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Zephaniah etc...used that language in their writtings.

John used the same idioms in his apocalyptic book: Rev 1:7.

The parable of the 10 virgins is about the fall of Judaism and the emergence of the new covenant.
The 5 wise virgins are the Jews who recognized Jesus in his earthly ministry. The parable clearly says that at midnight, a voiced of revival was heard to awaken the sleeping virgins. The voice introduced the soon coming Groom. This was John the baptist who proclaimed " the kingdom of heaven is at ha d". He also introduced the groom ( christ) to Israel when he said: behold the lamb of God.
Some wise jews followed christ. The foolish pharisees and sadducees were blinded by the darkness of their unbelief ( 2 cor 4:3-4).
The wise virgins are the apostles and the multitude that believed in christ.
In the year 70 ad when the temple was destroyed, most of them perished.

This parable is already fulfilled. It parallels the prophetic images of Noah entering the boat ( the wise jews) and the flood destroying the foolish people( roman soldiers destroying the temple and killing the unrepentant jews.
