BusinessCbn Pegs Daily Cash Withdrawal by edeone(op): 1:10pm On Apr 29, 2011
Friday, 29 April 2011 00:00 Hope Moses-Ashike
•N150,00 for individuals •N1m for corporates
•Gives June 1, 2012 as deadline
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has pegged a limit of daily cash withdrawal and lodgment by any individual and corporate customer to N150,000 and N1 million respectively, effective from June 1, 2012 with commercial banks. This latest development, according to the apex financial regulatory authority is coming on the heels of increasing dominance of cash in the economy with its implication for cost of cash management to the banking industry, security, money laundering, among others.
Following the latest CBN directive, analysts who spoke with BusinessDay last night say the new rules may not work as customers could resort to having many bank accounts with several banks and making withdrawals from these accounts.
The CBN which says it is working in collaboration with the Bankers’ Committee says, it is adopting the policies to reduce the high usage of cash, moderate the cost of cash management and encourage the use of electronic payment channels.
In a circular signed by Muhammad Nda, director, Currency Operations Department, “CBN, individuals and corporate organisations that make cash transactions above the limits will be charged a penal fee of N100/thousand and N200/thousand respectively for amounts above the cumulative limits.”
The apex bank also says contravention of this policy shall attract a fine of five times the amount that the bank waives as a first offender. Subsequently, the bank shall pay 10 times the charges waived.
According to the CBN, “Third party cheques above N150,000 shall not be eligible for encashment over the counter. Value for such cheques shall be received through the clearing house.”
It adds that, “If a bank allows third party cheque encashment, it shall be liable to a sanction of 10 percent of the face value of the cheque or N100,000 whichever is higher.”
Furthermore, the circular states that, “Banks will cease cash in transit lodgment services rendered to merchant-customers from June 1, 2012. In this regard, customers could engage the services of the CBN licensed cash-in-transit (CIT) companies to aid cash movement to and from their banks at mutually agreed terms and conditions.
“Contravention of this policy shall attract a fine of N1.0 million per specie movement.
This arrangement shall be in force in Lagos State, F.C.T., Port Harcourt, Kano and Aba in the first instance. The arrangement shall be extended to other parts of the country at a date to be determined by the Bankers’ Committee.”
Continuing, it notes that to “achieve inter-operability of local currency POS transactions, no card scheme, foreign or local, shall operate exclusive acquirer agreement or contract in Nigeria with effect from June 1, 2011. Any payments scheme, processor, switching company, service provider or bank that contravenes this policy may be suspended for a minimum of one (1) month by the CBN as a processor, switching company… The license may be withdrawn by the CBN if the contravention is repeated.”
This policy, it stresses, “shall apply to both private and public sector transactions. All financial institutions, including Deposit Money Banks, Savings and Loans, Mortgage and Microfinance Banks shall comply accordingly. Compliance with the policy shall be monitored by the Banking Supervision Department and the Other Financial Institutions Supervision Department with appropriate sanction applied to erring institutions.”
While the CBN assures that it will make general announcements and carry out public awareness programmes, individual banks, it says, are expected to do same. “The affected customers of banks should be informed in good time by the banks with clear advice on alternative electronic payment channels available to them.”

ummmmmmm well how do i say this, you see there are so many ways we all view friendship which is a fun loving thing when things are ok,but i most say it can be really ruf at times, but a true and real friend or let me put it like this FRIENDSHIP is taking the imperfection in another and bringing the best out of it,its accepting and bing ready to give and help when in need,to me there are really no word to explain it.

but made u making friends is easy but the hard part is mataining it.
FamilyRe: Would You Marry A Girl Who Earns Twice Your Salary? by edeone(m): 6:32pm On Sep 03, 2007
[s]In this competitive 21st century - anything can happen at any time. Imagine getting married to a lady working in a bank and you earn more than her. 1 year down the line; she gets a job with an Oil company - now her salary is like 3 times your's. What do you do? I think the best thing is to have other basis for getting married and not about the money. The scenario I painted can also happen in the reverse order. If a lady earns more than me now, it is no indication things will remain d same way for long. As far as I am concerned; earn your partner's respect in other ways! And for the very egoistic male in the house - bad news - Women will most likely be getting the juicy Marketing and sales jobs more than men. Find a way to get yourself better and also earn their respect in the real sense of it.[/s]

Well said bro, but the issue is if u are not confortable with a lady that gets paid more then u den u have no confidence in urself that how i see it,comon men bcus she gets more pay dan dose not give the rigth for her to control u,dat can only happen if u forget ur prerioty. u have to pull ur wight and do well men dats jst it forget if she dy get bah pass u men. sum guyz forget or are jst too chicken or sum go dy fear watin people go talk say na d gal money em dy find, but remeber that u shud not really be worried about wat poeple want u to be but wat u,urself want to be so do ur tin. and be bold

See girl u will get a lot of advise both Gud and Bad, but the real tin is that it all blows down to u,becos only u no the situation u are in right now, first u have to evaluate ur present position and really see if its what u want, life can be tricky and leave u in place u cant get out from.

But no this u do not have to compromise ur happiness for anytin ok life is too short to west it on people or tins dat are not wonght it, we may get confussed at times but the main tin is for u to no wat u want and were u are going to in the whole scheme of tins. U like him go and wrk tins out and see what u can make of it, but if its not wrking out beby hit the road and make urself happy. it hurts but DATS THE WAY LOVE GOES.

PoliticsRe: Naira To Be Re-Denominated by edeone(m): 7:32am On Aug 16, 2007
""I'm always amazed at the position of some people shooting down ideas before it starts. Some people believe that nothing good can come out of a policy formulated by a Nigerian.

I guess we need to correct this mentality. Soludo knows what he's contending against, the international communities, and I believe he's not a rookie in this area he is navigating. The guy is brilliant , and you should know that he must have raised some of the "fears" being raised on this forum with his team. I remember when he was talking about capitalization of the banks, a lot of people on this forum shot down the idea and gave it no chance. If that area is not 100% perfect now, at least we could still score him more than 80% now. There's a surge in the belief we have in our banks these days.

While I will not say we shouldnt raise our "fears", we should try as much as possible to take a more optimistic stand and strongly hope it's going to bring out the desired result. This guy and his teams are not fools as some think, and I strongly consider this present action as a step in the right direction!. He must have his logistics to make it work and you should also remember that he's putting his integrity and career on the line here for the betterment of Nigeria.

He deserves to be encouraged! ""

i quite agree with u,its is a Gud idea and will be very nice if it wrks so lets jst hope for the best, and we shud know dat it has be carefully planed.

We all are so quick to talk and jugde but we forget to look at the bigger picture of life,we forget that God said jude not lest ye be jugde and here we all are saying diffrent tnis about he dat stand for God,but have u sat down and thot about it that it was all for a reason that he came out and said what he did,and dat if he did not come out and say that BABA wud die and kept quite dat BABA wud have really have DIE huh??

Have u ever thot about it that certain things that were mentioned made OBJ have a rethink of wat he intended to do and decided not to go on wit his plan of the proposed third term, bid did u ever tinkhuh?

My poeple God wrks in misterious ways belive me for i have see it in my own life the hand of God so lets be careful to say and piont fingers, bcus God ways are not ours and his thots not ours, his plans are fare grater than we think, all that happened has a reason ok, the Man Of God coming out to say wat he said was promoted by sumtin which lead to another and changed the course of HISTORY. So no that in all there is more to it than meets the eye.

Christianity EtcRe: Oh God, Tunde Bakare Again! by edeone(m): 6:31pm On Aug 14, 2007
Allta:
This post for me isn't meant to be controversial.

1. Tunde Bakare is a renowed "Man of God", just like most other Christians in Nigeria, at least every True Christian should be refered to as Men of God.

2. Every Man of God has the gift of prophecy of some form and some operate in that Dimension, at least this is what we believe.

3. Prophecies aren't Future Occurences, they are just divinely inspired utterances or revelations  fortelling or "predicting" what is to come. By the way, this is the Dictionary definition and not something I just coined from the Bible.

4. Do all Predictions necessarily come to pass, I will say no to that. I don't want to pick numerous examples from the Bible, but even in Daily life occurences, we predict things which necessarily don't have to come to pass. So if someone predict that if an Oyinbo chop Amala for Iya-Buka joint or if bitten by mosquito in Lagos, he's going to fall sick, that's doesn't necessarily have to happen. Yes, people die of Mosquitoes, but it necessarily doensn't have to happen!

5. If you's seen the New Jonny Cage movie "Next", I love his favourite words in that movie : "Everytime you look into the future, you change Something", Maybe Tunde Bakare, just like any other God Believing true Christian saw the future of OBJ, and just maybe OBJ realised something by running to other "Men of God" to change something about that Future. At least, millions of Nigerians prayed that April election should go through, millions fasted and cried, even the non-Christians wanted a "successful" election. God as Christians believed, hear the cries of his people and answer their prayers.

6. On the point that Muslim being God-sent, I think i'm happy with the answer someone gave on this one. But just to add to it, you don't have to be a Christian for "God" to use you. As Christians believes, if he can turn dry dead bones into a mighty Army, and use stones to replace even we humans, then we shouldn't question him on who to use in situations like these. As Nigerians, let's lot create a religious boundary, or an ethnic barrier amongst ourselves. It's high time Nigeria moved on!

Peace Out!
Well spoken my brother, we shud note dat we can always alterthe occurance of certine events in our life due to our chioces,so no one is perfect which in so doing dose give us the right to jugde
