TheSuperNerd: Then Sir Edi, shooting will be key. Shooting from outside the box. Ndidi can strike the ball for instance. Etebo too. We cannot depend on just passing around them. Iceland are seasoned defensive masters. They have perfected their craft in defending. It would take a few mistakes to get in behind them. Shooting on sight must be part of our strategy on friday. I cannot also forget to mention Iheanacho. His shooting too will be key. Any chance to shoot from outside the box must be utilised. Against Iceland we must try all attacking options to get the goals we so crave. This I agree with. Let's hope Nacho can somehow fit into the team |

mank1234: If Iceland decides to play like Iran,it will be difficult for Nigeria cos we are poor at opening up defence. See how Spain is struggling! I'm afraid we might see a repeat of our game against Iran in the last world cup against Iceland. We've never been good at breaking teams that seat deep. |

Joebie: We should stop comparing our players to theirs. Iceland don’t have the best players. Lets focus on their fighting spirit as a unit. True. But let's not write off their quality. It's crazy when the media see their win over Poland as an "upset" |

Icon4s: As if it is not the same Mikel that played AM during the qualifiers.
Note again that Iwobi is not being played as a winger but as a Left or Right Attacking Midfielder.
So if Rohr chooses to start Mikel as the Central AM where would you rather Iwobi plays? Well we can now see that the African game is different from the big stage. Even during the WCQ, I wanted Mikel playing deeper. |

ChrisKels: Did you know that Senegal's coaching crew is made up of their 2002 team?
Aliuo Cisse, Tony Syria, Omar Daf, Lamine Diatta.
But down here, Siasia, Oliseh, Amunike and Finidi fit work together without beef? I doubt
Naija which way? For where?? Oliseh will refuse to work as an assistant. |

safarigirl: This Rohr just dey funny me. I he likes, he can pack short players against giants, they will cage all of them the sane way they caged the great Messi and even worse, all the FKs wey dem get go just dey enter net.
Abeg, I no come this morning to yarn Super Eagles matter, I just want to remind everyone that Senegal is the only African nation that went to Russia with an indigenous coach and look how well they did yesteryesterday.
Perhaps their coach was not feeding them tales of how much better Lewandoski is. Do they have a team psychologist? Most likely, no.
What Senegal has that Nigeria obviously doesn't is PRIDE. They had PASSION. That is what PATRIOTISM is about. So, Ogu should go and ask them what's up next time he wants to feed us trash.
The Senegalese team is allergic to losing. You see it when they play, all you see when Nigeria plays is tired, lazy, losers with slave mentality. Always bowing to their white massas.
Good morning guys. And they also have better players than we do. |

forgiveness: What is federal character in starting Musa?
Is Musa a bad player?
How many wingers do you have in your team?
If Musa is one of the 3 wingers in the team and one of the winger who did not live up to expectation is dropped for Musa, is it not a normal thing to do?
Victor Moses, Iwobi and Musa are thes three wingers Rohr is used to, and since Iwobi was not effective enough, it will be a wise decision to drop him and start Musa.
It is a very simple straight forward thing. So, wetin be quota system for dis one.
Abi, make we use Iwobi wey we know say em no dey do well for the wing come take play Iceland again? Save this post for the next time someone calls you a tribalist |

Mikel's best role is as a regista. Have 2 energetic box to box players to cover him i.e Ndidi and Etebo. Look at Carola and Pirlo for example. Both were slow and lacked the energy/stamina but they had Coquelin, Vidal, Marchiso, Pogba, etc bringing energy to the midfield while they dictated play from deep. At Arsenal, Santi would stay and dictate and Coquelin played b2b destroyer and his job was to win the ball and give it to Santi. Ramsey who played out wide drifted infield to make it a midfield 3 and helped defensively. We can play a 4-2-3-1 like Arsenal with Iwobi as 10 and Mikel as our Santi and Ndidi as our Coquelin with Etebo playing outwide as our Ramsey or a 4-3-3 with Mikel Regista and Ndidi - Etebo in front of him with Iwobi on the left. These are our best option for a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 with Mikel in it. We need to stop playing Mikel as a 10...it's not going to work in the world cup. |

komekn: Elneny is not superfast but compared to Mikel he seems like a sprinter.
Mikel simply doesn't have the legs to play that role. The technical ability, outstanding passing range and vision 100% absolutely a big YES.
But can those attributes overcome stamina and lack of pace. It's open to debate. If he has Ndidi and Etebo in the starting line up - it's not an issue. Think Pirlo at Juve. He had Vidal, Pogba and Marchiso to bring energy to the midfield while he did his thing. |

goldfish80: Exactly. Thank goodness people are seeing the dynamism he brings to the team. A peak Simon had Iwobi rooted to the bench in the qualifiers which didn't go down well with some. Took me a while to appreciate his importance. I can see what he adds to the team |

komekn: The reality is he currently the best striker we have in the squad.
This why having strength in depth is important in a squad. KC can not play the No.9 Role, anywhere near as good as Ighalo.
So we have to make do with what we have. True. Nacho's finishing is something that we sorely need in this lineup. The question is how do we fit both in alongside Iwobi, Mikel, Ndidi and Vic Moses? Vic Moses should be played as a wing back but I doubt he'll be cool with that |

goldfish80: Although this could be medicine after death but I do think the team needs a world class psychologicist in times like this. I think we highlighted on this point in our thread world cup 10 pointer championed by Icon4s. I get the sense that the players are scared out of their minds now after the loss and moreso with the abuse on their social media. I noticed Leon Balogun deactivated comments on his Instagram page. The team really needs a psychologist because I forsee fear and lack of self believe creeping into the players. Some will even be to careful to avoid mistake, thereby making lots of mistake as a result. Coupled with the fact the team is inexperienced at this level, could be even a more humiliating performance.
I'm not saying this because I expect the team to win the group but I don't want Nigeria to be embarrassed. Yep. If we had a good psychologist, maybe Akpeyi would be our first choice now. |

Mujtahida: The bolded is a topic I studied on and off for 9 years. It's a big fat lie - yes the 6 million holocaust story is a lie. I have e- books and online sources I can direct you to. Do you know that the popular Anne Frank Diary is a forgery? Dr Robert Faurisson convincingly proved it to be a forgery. Do you know that none of the labour camps had gas chambers? Do you know that questioning the historicity of the holocaust as in asking questions whether it occurred or not is a crime in at least 17 countries and that Ernst Zundel died in prison for questioning the holocaust. Currently as we speak Moniker schaeffer and Ursula Haverbeck (she is above 80 years old) are is in prison for denying the holocaust. David Irving(foremost historian on Hitler. I have an e-copy of his book 'Hitler's War') was sentenced to three years imprisonment in the UK. Meanwhile Arthur Topham in Canada stood trial and has been banned from publishing. Allison Chabloz is currently standing trial in the UK for singing holocaust denying songs. People question all sort of things even the existence of God without any consequences. Why is the holocaust an exception? I can go on and on but let me stop.
This is why I said your thinking on this matter is just your opinion and a simplistic one at that: a coach picks one player ahead of the other and you automatically say it's sentiments. In context what you mean is not that the decision was prompted by emotion or feeling but by bias, by prejudice. And even if you go by your dictionary meaning I have told you and it is well known that Germans are less prone to make decisions based on emotions. Suddenly a coach who has been there since 2006 choses players to prosecute the WC and then you tie it to sentiments. And shockingly you are so sure of it. What you are saying is that if I cannot give you any reason then automatically your opinion that his decision was prompted by bias and prejudice is the reason for his decision and no other.
you mentioned fitness and sentiments in the same breath and I showed you that you are wrong cos they had same concerns in 2014. Edi28 has given you reasons why the coach dropped the players he dropped but you said that's his thoughts but yours nko? What are they? Facts? No. They are opinions. This is interesting. Please do |

Criticizing the team without profounding Solutions is just not going to help the team.
However, Eze all pledged to play for us. We should invite him immediately after the world cup during our qualifiers. Man I don't see us beating both Iceland and Argentina. The game against Iceland will be too tough. They are just too organized. They won't even give us the space we got against croatia. |

Nedville: Nigerians We have a rectangle of ndidi Mikel etebo and iwobi....Mikel and ndidi in central midfield is the consensus now....but no one has answered who plays ahead of them.....is it iwobi or is it etebo Nigerians are good at judging and criticising....we should take it easy
The fact that we are here debating this and debating that tells you some things We don't even know our best 11 The subs are not much better than the ones that started Well....we were doomed from the start...but a back 3 will have made us solid We are dilly dallying between ebuehi and shehu...but let's ask ourselves.....did idowu play well?....
We need a left footed left back as soon as possible. We really do The Iwobi would be my first choice but Etebo is fine. At least if Etebo plays as a 10, he can always swap positions with Iwobi as he has played on the left for his club. Either ways is fine as long as we have Mikel dictating from deep. That is the most important thing |

Spy360: So is Xhaka a DM? Nope. He's a Regista. Always plays alongside a b2b destroyer. Emery is trying to correct that by getting Torreira. My only worry is we'll still lack someone who is able to drive forward with the ball in a midfield of Xhaka - Torreira - Ramsey. Unless Emery will make Torreira like Kante but from what I've seen he likes staying behind the ball like Xhaka. |

You can only hope to get a tier 2 keeper like Leno or Sergio Rico. Parvlenka, Hradecky and Rico are better options. I'd rather we take a punt on Lunin and Lafont. Leverkusen are replacing him with a better keeper in Hradecky. I don't care about his potential, Leno has been average for 2-3 seasons now |
