Would this formation work?

————————Uzoho——————-

——-Omeruo——Ekong—-Balogun———-

—Ebuehi——-Mikel——Ndidi——-V. Moses——-

—————————-Iwobi————————

——————-A. Musa——S. Nwankwo———

I feel that Ahmed Musa, given the way his pace and trickery bamboozled the Congolese and English defenders, should be given a starting spot on Wednesday. Then, in the 2nd half, either Iheanacho or Ighalo could sub-in for him.

Or is Musa better utilized as a second half substitute?
Iheanacho for Simy or Musa in second half. The front 2 needs to be very fluid and mobile so I wouldn't start Simy

Let's not be carried away with Ogu as a LB. He should play as LMF. there we can maximise his strength and minimise the damage teams will likely inflict if he plays as a LB.

Well, I think Ighalo was a little bit isolated. He can better than that.

Mikel Obi playing is better because he is will be defensively minded though he can still dictate the attack from deep.

Ogu playing as a defender CB came as a surprise to me. This is not a good signal for Awaziem because he might be dropped.

Let us see the friendly and see if we can improve the frontline.
Yeah Awaziem might get dropped. I remember there were reports that Ogu trained as a CB in the past, didn't think Rohr would try out in a game.
One of the benefits of having someone like him as a CB in a three man defence is he can always switch back to a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 when required.
After this world cup, Rohr needs to look at our midfield options. He should be looking at more creative CMs. Get someone who can pass from deep if he insists on playing Mikel as a 10.

After the coach saw the lapses, he decided to change the formation and moved Mikel close to the back then placed Iwobi who wasn't doing any defensive work on the wing ahead of Mikel.

Meaning, he doesn't need to create chances rather bring stability to the team. Since, he is now aware, he needed to do more of defending and allow Iwobi roam.

He can't remove Mikel who is the most experienced hence the need to remove either Joel or Onazi.

Surprisingly, he removed both and brought in another CMF maybe to see the Etebo because I don't think if any of those players stay the game will bad.

The problem was the right side of our team.

And since Shehu lacks pace, he needed someone with speed that could at the same time support the attack midfield and defence. Who else but Ebuehi could do that?

Ebuehi and Brian joining the midfield and defending with quick recovery stabilized our game.

The English realised and brought in fresh players to disrupt our wings with pace since that is their own strength but by the time dey do that we already strengthened our wings.

The only problem now is the forward didn't gel.
Gbam!! Ighalo today surprising lacked mobility. His movement was disappointing.
Mikel playing deep helped big time. It goes back to what i, Icon79, Oasis007, etc have been saying - PLAY MIKEL A BIT DEEPER. Ogu playing as a CB helped too as he's better than all our CBs on the ball.

and finally, Ebuehi has finally silenced all nay sayers. Dude is shoulder above Shehu. Clean Tackles, well timed Interceptions, excellent positioning, good crossing and finally pace. It doesn't take so much time to Identify a gem.
But Ebuehi is too soft na. Na achebo him be. Him resemble person way breeze go blow. Shehu is strong and understands the African game.
Shehu is our best rb. It doesn't matter if Ebuehi played well. He didn't play well against Serbia. Injury is not an excuse.
Rohr will RIGHTLY start Shehu in the WC because Ebuehi is weak. Na technical ability we go chop??

we have better than Joel, so there is absolutely no reason why we should manage him.

Average players like Ogu, Ndidi, even Etebo bring more to the team than Joel, so even among average players, Joel simply does not cut it
Rohr is persisting with Joel Obi because he knows what an inform Joel Obi can bring. However, world cup go soon start. We don't have time to gamble on him. He needs to be dropped or not be a starter

I can not defend Joel Obi anymore. The Joel Obi of Torino is much better than what we are seeing now.
However, he needs to be dropped. No more excuses. He can't bring his club form to the NT, then there is no point. Dude doesn't even drive pass players, nothing. Did someone tell him he has to be hyper aggressive without doing anything on the ball??
Onazi is washed. I never ever want to see that guy start a game till he loses at least 10 kilos.
3-5-2 might be the way to go against croatia. I swear Croatia would've murdered us if we played like we did first half.
Someone needs to talk to Vic Moses.

To me where were struggling is on the flank.

Moses and Iwobi are getting sucked in to pressure linhad and Ali, leaving ungodly space for Trippier and Young.

If our fullbacks were good enough to overlap then we could put pressure on England wingbacks by double teaming them with our wingers and fullbacks.

As it stands, the fullbacks are staying put on defence, their wingers are tucking in too narrow, and so England have turned their wings to third mainland bridge at 2am
Exactly. This is why Ebuehi should be starting over Shehu.

Are you all seeing how we're struggling to build up play from deep?? We can't handle the press. I missed the first 25 mins but as soon as I started watching, I noticed it.
Rohr MUST PLAY MIKEL AS A CM. Onazi is finished. Sub him off.
Mikel himself is looking a bit off pace. Maybe we will switch to a 3 man defence

That's exactly what most Dudes here don't wanna understand. Comparing Iwobi at Arsenal with Iwobi in GWG is absolutely wrong.

You've really addressed it clearly in the bolded Parts. For Iwobi to thrive, he must play behind the Striker [as a 10 or 8] , but right now we've got too many DMs/CMs in the Squad hence Mikel can't be added to the List.

I would have preferred your Concept if I'm in charge, cos its a great Idea - apparently we gonna feel and enjoy the fluidity of the Team as well as entertaining Transition of Ball from Defence to Attack.

However, Rohr ain't gonna play Mikel in a Deeper Role, the Reason is; I'm a bit convinced Joel will make the final List. He's gonna play in a Deeper Role slightly behind Mikel as a CM, while either of Ndidi or Onazi plays as a DM.

I won't be surprised if Ogu is eventually but unfortunately dropped from the 23-Man List. Guess you wanna know the Reason?! Onazi and Ndidi as DMs, Agu and Joel as CMs, Obi and Etebo (based on Rohr's Tactics so far) as AMs.

Instead of Etebo as an AM, I would have preferred Iwobi as an AM while Etebo is classed among the Forward as a Winger. He gets the Qualities to excel as a Winger not as an attacking Midfielder.
A Mikel - Joel Obi - Ndidi is great on paper. The only problem is Joel Obi is yet to transfer his club form to the team. If he can do that, then we'll be fine. Both he and Ndidi are energetic and aggressive, Joel can dribble and his short passes isn't that bad. Problem is he hasn't shown any of these with the NT.

Honestly i’d Prefer Mikel as a CM. He will help us control the midfield even better without us losing that passing range, with Iwobi upfront. I’d rather play Musa as LW. Guys, Musa is in the form of his life going by how he ended the season. Credits to CSKA coach. I though he did pretty well against Congo DR even in that yeye pitch.
Yeah Musa on his day is a great outlet for the counter and gets goals too. I like putting in Etebo because he's a slightly better ball carrier and more defensively astute than Musa. His stamina is crazy.
But we know Rohr. He'll still go with 2 destroyers. If he goes that route, I'd rather Joel Obi starts instead of Onazi. I still feel he is better on the ball and brings more energy and aggression than Onazi

good tactical idea, but will be useful for very much lesser team and not against Croatia midfield and Argentina attack
It could work if Joel Obi can transfer his club form to SE.
Mikel as DLP with Ndidi and J Obi in front him. Joel Obi can also play on the left. He's quite mobile and can drift out wide. Unfortunately it's not clicking for him

Good analysis, edi. This is actually what I have advocated here in the forum a few times. And that system would improve us defensively as well, especially against a loaded midfield team like Croatia. Unfortunately, I don't think that Mikel would ever agree to give up that #10 role.

O pari
For me, it's the only way we can deal with teams that'll decide to press us from the front. Onazi - Ndidi pivot gives us a solid defensive foundation but I honestly doubt it'll be able to handle relentless pressing. Mikel will eventually have to drop deep and we know Onazi and Ndidi don't contribute too much attacking wise. It's honestly a shame Joel Obi hasn't been able to bring his club form to the team. He'd have been a better option than Onazi imo. He's better on the ball and is just as energetic. It's not clicking for the guy

Thanks for reminding me Hazard and De Bruyne play the same Position on the Pitch. Sometimes I do find it baffling the kinda style of your Arguments.

How many Times Dudes would say Mikel and VicMo are the Heartbeats of the Eagles?! In fact they are the Wings of the Eagle according to some Folks. Do you know..... why cos the Team lacks creativity without them.

Now ask yourself, why the Team lacks creativity despite the presence of Iwobi in the Team?! The Answer is as clear as Daybreak, coz he's wrongly used on the Pitch.

What's Etebo doing in the Hole?! Is he a Playmaker, Creator or what?! Why wasting Iwobi on the Wing when you know he's less productive there and can easily fade off in the Position?!

I've said it before, Iwobi played not as a Winger at Arsenal; don't be fooled by the Lineup, rather pay Attention to it's Interpretations on the Pitch. Iwobi play as an AM with freedom to roam and swap Position(s) with other AMs.

I don't know why simple Arithmetic does turn to further Maths most time on this Forum. I made a Point, if you have a contrary view, tackle it with verifiable Stats and let's engaged in a healthy Debate instead of getting emotional and ending up being sentimental.
I.e as an inverted winger. A few people have said the same. It honestly depends on who is playing in the middle. He can obviously swap positions with an Ozil but not a Mikel. This is why I've been advocating for moving Mikel a bit deeper. Play Iwobi or even Etebo (if you're afraid of Iwobi's workrate) in front. When you have Iwobi - Etebo - Vic Moses or Simon Moses - Iwobi - Vic Moses behind Ighalo/Iheanacho, what you have is a very mobile and fluid front 4 capable of interchanging position at will.
A Mikel as a Dlp can still be a big creative influence. Build up play will be better and they'll still be enough creativity in the final third.

If Nigeria play like they played during the qualifiers then England will be beaten. England is not a good side at all - ive watched there qualifying games and they were atrocious. Nigeria can beat them and that includes Croatia, Iceland (Iceland I suspect will be tough for all the teams - you watch) and Argentina ( they have big problems - did you see them against Haiti - terrible)

Nigeria will dictate the game - watch and see
England seem to have the same problem with us without Mikel. They lack that player to link up play between midfield and attack. I think Southgate is hoping RLC is that guy. Tbh RLC is doing what I expected Joel Obi to do for us...driving with the ball into the final third.
The difference is they have a higher quality of players at the attacking 3rd and have Henderson to dictate play from deep.
They are favorites to win but we can always spring a surprise as usual.
